  1. I've seen reports that the 10.2 Legacy Driver package of video drivers has problems with CoH. The Legacy 9.11 drivers are generally recommended for older video cards such as yours that use the ATI Legacy drivers.

Well, with me being logged out multiple times today that eliminates it being cookie related.

Apparently the "old" cookies have a really, really short life. As in hours instead of days. I've been logged out of the forums at least twice today.

The past few weeks it's happened off and on a few times, with various computers, ISP's, OS's and browsers involved, much more than I've experienced at any time with any of the forums starting with the original alpha forums. I've only had a few times I've been logged out of the new vBulletin forums until the problems within the past several weeks. Of course, some of that has coincided with all of the maintenance they've been doing so there is no telling what has gotten messed up.

Last night briefly it didn't matter where I tried going on the forums I was getting a PlayNC page saying they were down for scheduled maintenance. Of course, I hadn't seen any announcement of any maintenance scheduled for 5 PM Central so it confused me. And of course, as soon as I said something on Twitter the forums started working again.

Seeing the differences in browsers, OS's, times and locations leads me to believe it's a server side issue.
  4. Remove the -test from the shortucts and relaunch the updater. It should get you to the correct version.

If it doesn't on the first try, delete the Coh.checksum file, or however it is named and then run the updater again.
  5. From the Training Room forums:

We brought this issue up both here in the Training Room section, and in the Closed Beta section, and it has been ignored. PMs have also been ignored.

No idea when/if they're gonna fix it.

Posts have been made, PM's have been sent, I've seen reports of support tickets being filed but still no fix.

As Kheldarn noted, even though you can select Freedom and Virtue they aren't working apparently since people can't get the characters to show up.
  6. If he's getting OpenGL errors, he may have remnants of old driver files on his system causing a corruption.

Download a fresh copy of the nVidia drivers but don't install them yet. Download and install Driver Sweeper but don't run it yet. Uninstall any nVidia video listings in Add/Remove Programs, including nVidia PhysX entries. Do not reboot. Right-click My Computer, select Properties, click the Hardware tab and click the Device Manager button. Expand the entry under Display Adapters and uninstall any video cards listed.

Reboot into Safe Mode. Cancel any New Hardware wizards that come up. Run Driver Sweeper and have it remove any nVidia Display Driver files. You will need to remove any of the nVidia PhysX files as well. Reboot when finished.

Load Windows normally but cancel any New Hardware wizards. Run the installer for the driver files that you downloaded earlier.

See if he's still getting the same problems. I suspect he won't at this point, but if he does post a log from running HiJackThis.
  7. The download was happening for some time before there was an announcement of it on the forums.
  8. What OS?
    What Browser (including version)?
    What add-ins (if any)?

Very hard to offer suggestions or troubleshoot with no information.

The integrated Intel video chipset is the problem. There are "slightly" newer drivers on the Acer support website for your computer, but I'm not sure if they would resolve the problem or not.

I would recommend upgrading the video drivers first from the Acer support website, and if the problem persists you might try to install the drivers directly from the Intel website. I'm not sure if Asus modified their drivers so that the official drivers won't install as some other OEM's do.

You can also try setting a command on your CoH shortcut to lower your shader mode on the game.

    1. right click on CoH shortcut
    2. click on properties
3.click on shortcut tab at top
    4. go to target window "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe"
    5. after the last " press space once
    6. enter the following code exactly -useTexEnvCombine
    7. click on apply then ok
    8. right click on CoH then click run as admin.

Since Intel's OpenGL support has always been less than stellar, it's possible that you may not be able to fully resolve the issue. The Programming department and QA are aware of the problems with Intel video chipsets and older ATI and nVidia cards, but there is only so much they can do without re-breaking the graphics engine.
  10. On the Imperial City Overview page, the link for the Behavioral Adjustment Facility links to Marauder's Character Bio page.
  11. Something in your process isn't working or it wouldn't still be showing a driver date from July 2009.

Somewhere Windows is picking up pieces of the old drivers which is likely the cause of the error message with the aticfx32.dll file. You are booting into Safe Mode to run Driver Sweeper?
  12. I know I can set the .reg file to run silently by putting a /s at the end of the command, bypassing the prompt about writing to the registry.

I'm just behind due to crunch time at work with registration for school going on, teachers returning to campus and new teachers getting training on technology items, etc. I haven't had time to play with it but I'm fairly sure I can get the batch files worked out.

Good tip though about removing the version info. I can see that causing problems.
  13. If pinging by name doesn't work, try pinging 4.2.2.1 to see if it's a DNS issue. That address is to a DNS server owned by Level 3. It's my backup DNS server if my ISP's primary and secondary DNS servers aren't resolving right.

Do you have the computers set to use static or dynamic IP addresses? If static, make sure that you didn't mistype the gateway, subnet mask or IP address as well as the DNS server addresses. Also, make sure it's a different address than anything else on the network is getting. If it's a dynamic IP address, make sure it's getting all of the correct IP information from the router including the DNS addresses. I've seen routers either not pass the DNS address at all or just pass their address as the DNS server. I've also seen that occasionally someone will have set a static IP at one time and then changed to dynamic IP's but forgot to set the DNS addressing to dynamic or left the Primary and Secondary DNS blank after removing the old info.

Since they Vista system is accessing the other computers, the router and the printer I'd look mostly at DNS and the Gateway address (since the Gateway address basically tells it what route to take to get outside the local network).
  14. 10.8 isn't installing.

Download and install Driver Sweeper but don't run it yet. Download a fresh copy of the drivers but don't install them yet.

In the Control Panel, go to Programs and Features and uninstall the ATI Catalyst Install Manager. Have it remove the CCC and drivers. Don't reboot yet. Open Device Manager and uninstall the video cards.

Reboot into Safe Mode and cancel any driver installations that start. Run Driver Sweeper and have it remove all of the ATI Display stuff except for the new driver package you downloaded. This will remove the remnants of the old drivers that are left after the uninstall so that you can install the new drivers cleanly.

Reboot into normal Windows and cancel any driver installations that start. Run the installer for the new drivers that you downloaded earlier. Run CoH Helper again and check the date listed on the video drivers to make sure that it's the correct date. That should correct the problems. I had one of the ATI driver packages that didn't fully install the first time I ran it a while back so I had to re-run it after a reboot to get it to install the CCC and then everything showed right.

    Hope that helped.

    So...the Website

Due to someone asking in another thread about this, I did a ping on that address and it resolves to the same IP address as the boards.cityofheroes.com address does.

EDIT: Opening that site in a virtual machine installation takes me to the forums main page.
  16. Possibly a mobile version of the page, formatted to work better with Smartphones and such.

The name resolves to the same IP address as boards.cityofheroes.com resolves to, so it's apparently just another portal onto the forums.

If you don't have access to the Beta Forums, send a PM to theOcho or Avatea and they should be able to get that straightened out.

It would make little sense, from my POV at least, to keep it in Closed Beta and not let the most recent group have access to those forums. Possibly an oversight or it could just be that there's a LOT of accounts to set the GR CB forum flags to the ON setting.
  18. A school network? Yep, that could well have been the problem.

Working in the Technology Department for the local School District I can see where it's likely that certain ports or sites are blocked.

Heck, you can't even play anything on the CoH website or forums and they were blocked by my district's web content filter as "Games". I got them to unblock the forums since you have to have an active account to post and I only access the forums at lunch or after hours.
  19. Since you don't list the OS, it's a bit difficult to list possible solutions or problems. Since you mentioned trying to run it as administrator I'll answer this a if you have Vista or Win 7,

For the updater, make sure that it's not set to run in a Compatibility Mode such as XP. The things to be checked on the Compatibility tab is the Run As Administrator box, possibly the Disable desktop composition and Disable visual themes.

Right-click on CoH Helper and select Run As Administrator.

The HiJackThis logfile should be in the installation directory for HiJackThis.
  20. Interesting thought there Kheldarn. I knew in my head that those settings were in the registry but for some reason never thought to export them and use .reg files to switch the settings.

Going to have to export a couple of .reg files so that I can easily switch from normal play settings to raid settings. I may play around and see if I can find a way to automate loading the .reg file and then launching the game with the updater bypass so that I can do this in a single shortcut. Well, a single shortcut for each setting.

    Thanks for the ideas there.
  21. Fire up that old desktop, launch the game so that it updates, then recopy the pigg folder.
  22. Try zoning to another zone then check the Merits again. If they still aren't there, quit to the desktop and restart the client then check it. I've seen reports of this fixing the display of the Merit count.

If they still aren't showing after that you will need to send a /petition or file a support ticket on the PlayNC Support site.

If you have any screenshots of the reward window (I know some like to take such screenshots) you can attach that to the support ticket once they respond along with your combat logs showing that they were rewarded.

It should give them enough information to check the database and verify that you didn't actually receive the rewards.
  23. Don't send emails with attachments when the global servers are down.

Since emails with attachments have to be sent to global names then you run into a problem because the server that deals with the global names is down. Email isn't run on the global server, it's run on the same server that you are playing on.

I doubt if there is any code in place or any that they could put in place (at least none that would not eat a huge amount of resources) to allow for a check to see if the global server is up before allowing an email to be sent.

It just requires a bit of common sense be used when sending emails with attachments. If the global server is down, don't send emails.
  24. What is the version and date of the drivers you are using?

As far as HeroStats, that may be a question better answered on their forums since they know how their program works and why better than most of us do.
