People have been asking for alternate animations for the medicine pool for a loooong time now. Since we now apparently have the technology to pull it off, I would imagine it will find its way into the game at some point. They'll probably finish off all the primary/secondary sets first though I think, before moving on to pools.
-
I remember they fixed a bug a while back that would make you get half merits if you'd run positron before doing synapse and vice versa, maybe they broke something else in fixing that one?
-
I gotta love how no one even commented on what I or almost anyone else in here suggested but instead went on with railing against the OP's suggestion despite all us others suggesting ways to improve it.
Also to the people talking about risk vs reward and the proposed new raids being too much of the former and not enough of the latter, what if in addition to everything else that's changed, they made the rikti in the new raids give gauranteed vanguard merits to people with the badge, like the ones in the mothership do?
Wouldn't be massively too much reward since merits aren't tradable and there's not that much you can get with them, but it'd be a nice alternative to having to having to either do ship raids or spend forever farming rikti missions for your costume bits, salvage bags, weapons and temp pets. -
It'd work conceptually if you restricted it to elements, like if you were a fire/energy blaster you could only pick fire or energy based sets as your alternate build. It'd be the same character with the same powers, just using them in different ways.
Mechanically though, no. A thousand times no. We have enough people running around on 50s with no idea how to play already, we don't need that compounded by each of those having a second set they have no idea how to play. -
I will happily support this, deleting spam off characters I haven't played in a while takes forever. Also maybe a 'spam all' button as well, to function the same as the existing spam button but on all emails in your inbox rather than just one.
That, or the often requested option to limit emails to friends/SG/global friends.
[ QUOTE ]
Because it's possible there might be one or more in there someone actually wanted to keep, how about let us select multiple emails?
[/ QUOTE ]
Most people would have the common sense to at least scan through them to make sure there was nothing important before hitting the button. Though, for added safety you could require the player to scroll to the bottom of the inbox, like some licence agreements do under the assumption that scrolling down means you read it. (Note: it doesn't)
Also I feel compelled to point out that in my entire two and a half years of playing the game I've received maybe two emails that weren't spam. (One of which I accidentally reported anyway cause I was so used to it.) -
Looks pretty good to me. Only problem I have with it is it's very definitely Technology oriented. Most powersets tend to be not focused so heavily towards a single origin (Mastermind pets being about the only exceptions, I think?) so players have the freedom to pick whichever origin they like and still have their concept make sense.
And what's this about icons? *goes to look*
Edit: Ooh, shiny pictures. Also, I just noticed this set has some five toggle powers. Would be hell on the blue bars. And which power would have the taunt aura for tanks/brutes, or would they lose Smoke Grenade for a damage aura? -
I like the idea of an NPC-lead counterattack if the Rikti hold a zone long enough - use the same amount of time the raids last at present and it doesn't impact non-participating players any more than it already does. Make the NPC heroes powerful enough to always overcome the Rikti defenders, and you've got no problem right? The raids will always end, just they might end earlier if people actually help out. And making far more sense in doing so as well, rather than the 'boom, it's over' sort of thing we have now where they just arbitrarily stop attacking.
Only real problem I can see (Assuming the exact same amount of time they are now isn't considered too disruptive by certain people) is the badges. The current 25 bombs/100 rikti/10 heavies badges for the accolade wouldn't work under this new system, or at least not very well. So remove them, and replace them with new badges. One for defending each of the three types of targets in the initial invasion (three total there), and a fourth for assaulting any of the three rikti targets in the counterattack. The Watchman accolade would require only the three for defending. -
I'm pretty sure it's a bug. In my experience, it happens more frequently if you drag the pointer past the edge of the box while dragging the slider. If you stop it right on the end and then click the ok button, it seems to happen far less often.
As for Samuel's examples above, no idea. -
You can click and drag missions to rearrange their order, you know.
-
There probably is, but I would imagine it's set up the way it is for a reason. No idea what that reason might be, though.

Possibly all of them.
[/ QUOTE ]
There's actually a badge somewhere in the game files for precisely this, but it isn't implemented. Likely because the requirements for it would need to change every time the devs add more content. -

EDIT: Happy Birthday Rebel!
[/ QUOTE ]
Thankies.
[ QUOTE ]
For teaching about enhancements:
Have a NPC who gives you build advice maybe? A powers doctor/trainer in AE who scans your build and makes simple suggestions.
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Poster adverts within AE would make sense too.
[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
So I guess they could throw out little factoids about the outside world outside the AE building. Just enough to tease the player - "Read all about it! Lava creatures spotted in the Hollows again!" and so on.
[/ QUOTE ]
These, I like. Completely non-intrusive, and they actually make some sense within the game world. Placing the ads within AE would help cut down on the current feeling I sometimes get that AE and the rest of the game are strictly seperated. There's absolutely nothing outside of AE that even mentions it aside from the popup contact at level 5, that I can tell. And aside from the occasional mayhem/safeguard bosses chilling near the windows inside AE, there's not much in there that references the rest of the game. (Player-created arcs that do so notwithstanding, I'm talking purely about dev-created stuff here)

the base speed of Fly at level 12 in furlongs per fortnight?"
[/ QUOTE ]
<-- is so going to start giving speeds in furlongs per fortnight, just to confuse people.
[ QUOTE ]
perhaps it would be better to give tips near the end of the tutorial zone.
[/ QUOTE ]
Or improve the tutorial in general, make it based more on AT or even powersets right the way through rather than the same generic tutorial for everyone. Would be a fair investment of effort though, I'd bet the devs wouldn't consider it worth the time required.
[ QUOTE ]
3. The MA tips are set to appear more often.
[/ QUOTE ]
I believe this is partly true - when loading a MA mission, you'll get MA tips only. Outside of it, it's purely random. But don't quote me on that one, I'm not sure. -
[ QUOTE ]
Now to balance the power and bring out the "danger," have the pet turn hostile at the end of its "lifespan." Instead of vanishing, it breaks free and turns on the summoner.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry, but I just have to make this comment: WoW warlock infernal pets, anyone? (For those who have never played it, they're a big really powerful pet the class in question gets at max level, that acts pretty much exactly as suggested above)
Players hate them there too, though they have their uses. And hey, it'd still be more useful than Repair. Personally I like some of the other ideas suggested here more though. -
[ QUOTE ]
Since no one wants the new players to learn anything I'll just let them badmouth the game I enjoy playing and stop making suggestions to attempt to prevent it.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, this is not what we are saying at all. As far as I can tell, most people would agree with you that something needs to be done about the AE farm babies and their general lack of anything resembling knowledge about the rest of the game.
All we are saying, is that your suggestion is not (in our collective opinions) the best way to go about doing that. -
Welp, I for one know that dimension shift makes a fairly useful 'oh crap!' button.
Actually now that I think about it, I wonder if it could be used to disable all those annoying nictus pets that Romulus summons at the end of the ITF. Him and the three essences would be immune cause of being AVs, but the pets shouldn't be. -
I suddenly have an image in my mind of a Peacebringer using Proton Scatter (The one that fires an individual projectile for each target) and every projectile being a different colour. Not what you mean, but damn if it doesn't make me laugh like an idiot.
Because of that, I must support this suggestion. Can't help but think it'd be harder than it sounds to implement though. -
[ QUOTE ]
I ask because what alternate animation can you really choose for powers like .... and Hurl?
[/ QUOTE ]
Throw a car instead of a rock? Or even better, make it random like propel is? (But remove the smaller objects, obviously) -

c) Scrapper
[/ QUOTE ]
This is the correct answer, assuming the scrapper in question is anywhere even vaguely resembling competent. Tank/heals/dps mentality is for games like WoW, not this game.
And that there is precisely why this idea isn't so great. For a lot of things in this game, there isn't one single right answer. Especially when it comes to the customisation - builds and enhancements, specifically. Just because most people slot attack powers with 2 accuracy 3 damage 1 endredux or recharge, doesn't make that the absolute right way to do it. (I'm not even sure if most people do do that, would need datamining to say for sure probably.) Likewise, even such things as petless masterminds are viable characters. (not optimal, but viable)
I say just make the tutorial mandatory on the first couple of characters you make. Maybe expand it a little or add an optional second section covering more advanced concepts. -

No problems, unless the laptop won't handle the game.
Easiest method is to copy (across a network if possible) the game files from the first computer to the laptop. Create a folder called C:\Games\CoH on the laptop to put the files in. Copy the Updater to the Desktop of the laptop. Launch the Updater, but do NOT accept the default location. Instead, point it to the C:\Games\CoH folder you copied the files to.
Good to go.
[/ QUOTE ]
One thing to add here is you also need to delete the 'CoH.checksum' file in the game folder after copying. As I understand it, the updater throws an error and quits if you don't. -
I find it amusing that earlier - I think in this thread - someone was complaining about CoH being the most expensive MMO, when a good two thirds or so of that list is the exact same price per month.
-
I dunno, personally I like the reverse version of this bug more - you die and then rez, and the character slides around facedown on the ground. Looks hilarious.
-
The page is bugged, it switches randomly between displaying the actual current status and displaying the status from June 24th. Hit refresh until the date at the bottom changes to today's date and you'll have the real status - which at present is all 'unknown' (Which to my knowledge means they're up and running but still being tested to make sure the update works properly and they haven't monumentally stuffed something up, hence the general public are not allowed in yet.)

1) A lot of people have already dinged 50 via AE. I've met new players that have only experienced AE and now have at least 1 PL'd 50. This is the biggest reason why it wouldn't work.
2) The brand-new player isn't going to be able to get much of anything from AE on the first character. Given we have a new marketed game-box highlighting this feature, it would be quite a disappointment when that feature wasn't instantly working for the player.
[/ QUOTE ]
They'd still be able to experience it - they could be scaled up for higher arcs or SKed as normal, but just wouldn't earn xp once they hit their highest level. They'd also still be able to write their own arcs, which is the part that's advertised most. But yes, I see your point there.
[ QUOTE ]
If not, do you only farm with friends and experienced players?
[/ QUOTE ]
Mostly, yes. When I don't I do my best to help the newer players learn the game.
[ QUOTE ]
People who don't have a single 50 can't take their mains for a fun ride through the system? It seems a bit unfair... And useless, to boot.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, not specifically a 50. It would cap you at whatever the highest level you've achieved outside of AE is. So if your highest character is say, 43 then you'd stop earning xp when you hit 43 in AE. Note the person in that example could create a second character and level them purely in AE from 1-43, but again they'd stop getting xp at 43 until they got something to 44 or higher outside of AE.
Unfair. Yes, it is. However, would you rather have people at high levels who have absolutely no idea how the game works? Not making this up - I had a guy in the 30s honestly ask me what an enhancement was. This is the kind of player the farms are turning out.
Actually come to think of it, anyone know offhand if the game requires you to do the tutorial on the first character you make? If not, maybe it should. Would help the problem a bit at least. -
Ok, firstoff. I'll be honest and say I have no problem with the farming and frequently do it myself. What I have a problem with though, is the sort of players the farms generate. People who honestly believe Atlas Park and the AE building are the entire game. Who've never run a mission outside of AE.
What I propose to fix that problem is this: Change the AE system so you can only get experience up to the level of your highest character. Not restrict it to 50s or even people with 50s, because a lot of people don't have 50s and this would cut them off from all the good content in AE which as has been said, the devs are unwilling to do.
What this effectively does, is forces people to play outside AE if they wish to see the higher levels and thus learn all the concepts and strategies and skills that most veterans take for granted.
It does not however make AE any less viable for levelling, merely restricts it such that you cannot come into the game and do nothing but AE missions, never playing any of the original content ever. Until, of course, you actually have played this content.
As an example: If my highest level character, across all servers and both sides, was level 30. Upon hitting level 30 in an AE mission with another character, I would stop gaining experience. (And possibly inf/prestige/tickets as well, but I'm not sure if that's needed.) Until that point however, I would gain full rewards as I do now. Likewise, as soon as I got any character to a higher level, I would again gain full rewards on any character in AE missions - until I hit that higher level.
So, what do you think? Still too harsh on new players? -
[ QUOTE ]
Having the same problem here. Seems that the first hero or villain you login gets borked. Everyone else is fine.
[/ QUOTE ]
Note to self: create throwaway alt and login with that first when I get home this afternoon.
