  1. I have a Necro MM and a while back I remember my upgraded Grave Knights (the level 32 upgrade) gave their swords a lightning graphic between the blades.

Did this change at some time? I no longer see it on the swords. I have a Nvidia GTX 260 graphics card and the graphics are turned all the way up.

Maybe it is some other switch I do not have turned on or something but at a lose what it might be.

Does anyone have any ideas or was the lightning effect taken out?

    Thanks.

    Thanks! That fixes it.

I do not mind having to edit then when needed (did the same thing before so I could get my travel powers early from vet) but always better when running on the right update.
  3. Also the bug in SD for Phalanx Fighting is the fact that it does not register the power for Ranged defense. I fixed it by editing the database and changing the Ranged defense part of the power from Affects Target to Affects None and it shows up correctly (Melee and AoE were already set that way).
  4. I am trying to get the game running again the way it was before this update.

I run on the US servers.

I can execute the cohupdater.exe file and it will start the game fine. I am running Windows 7. I have COH installed outside of Program Files, C:\Games\City of Heroes. I made a copy of cohupdater.exe and named it Cohstarter.exe When that is executed it is now asking me if I want to allow it to make changes to my system which it was not doing before. I do not want to turn UAC off if possible. I am running Forefront for virus/malware protection and Windows Firewall is on.

Is there a way after this change to get it to stop asking me everything I start the game?

    Thanks.
  5. I figured there was not.

Just had to ask since I know that there is a weighting factor when doing merit purchases for random rolls so was curious if they implemented that anywhere else.
  6. I have never paid attention since I have only ever done this one one character but are the Longbow Warden 2 healing the same amount for the Brute and Scrapper (I know when I did it they were healing 160 for each person in range).

Sounds odd but maybe that is it?
  7. Is there some form of weighting when a purple recipe is generated for a character?

I ask this because my controller has had quite a few purple recipes but I was thinking about it last night and never got a Hectomb (Melee).

Now my scrapper has gotten a few Hectomb in the past (nothing recently for any purples) but I do not think ever gotten a hold.

So wanted to find out if it was just blind luck that it has worked out that way or if there is some weighting behind it.

(Seeing as I am almost completely finished wiht my controller's build and will be working on some of my scrapper builds and figure I might have to by some of those purples and not hope on getting them as drops.)

    Thanks for any information.

With the difficulty options a player can up his level of difficulty by +1, +2, +3 etc and that seems self evident if you are level 32, then it will boost the foes to level 33, 34, 35 respectively.

The 'choose how many heroes I am equivalent to' +1, +2, +3 increases the headcount in the mission groups accordingly when you solo.

Now the 'nut' of the matter: when I am on a team with a scrapper or some other enthusiastic type, I will get a tell that says don't just raise it to +2 because we already have 2 on the team and effectively it won't increase the number of foes in groups. Or if the team consists of three heroes/villains, they say +3 won't increase the number of foes in groups.

In my wacky way of thinking, on a team of three if I select +3 for how many heroes I am equal too, we will get groups with +3 for me and +2 more for the two teammates on the team. Am I off on this, or am I ignorant of the mechanics?

I don't mind challenges. I adjust the difficulty usually to fit our fighting skill so that we are challenged as much as we are not in missions-prior to the end boss, which should always make a team work.
The number of heroes being equivilant of works like this, the number of heroes on the team OR the number set in the difficulty slider, whichever is higher.

    Team 2 Diff 3 --> Mission set for 3
    Team 4 Diff 3 --> Mission set for 4
Team 8 OR Diff 8 --> Mission set for 8

    Hope that helps.

    Stealth vs CJ

CJ also provides some immobilization protection while Stealth allows you to get a bit closer to the guys without being detected.

    PvP Recipes

What is the timer now for getting PvP recipes? And how close in level do the combatants need to be for someone to get a recipe?

I guess the op here just cannot get it into his head that defense above softcap is not helping him like he thinks.

And WHY?!?! would you go for MORE defense and REMOVE hasten to get there?
  12. I have been looking over many of the builds here and found some very nice builds. I was wondering if moving some slots around into often used powers and putting in procs may generate some better DPS.

This is the build I have come up with adding a proc into fire cages, flashfire and seismic smash. The build is soft-capped to smash/lethal and HP capped with earth's embrace on.

Which difficulty settings have you found offer the best gains/time spent?

Also does having bosses in BM greatly increase the chances of a purple drop?

Would purples still drop if there were no bosses on the map?

    Thanks again.

    I nub.

I run at +0/x8 with bosses. I think this is the best return for the rewards. You get the level 50 set recipes if they drop which sell better than 49 (if running at -1), lots of guys, purple drops, and the chance for TF/Trial drops due to fighting bosses (only small chance and only from the bosses).

The only increase in purple drops that the bosses provide is that the bosses inherently have a higher % chance to drop a recipe. The chance for a recipe drop has to first succeed and then that is checked if it is a purple.

Yes, purples will still drop without bosses.
  14. Thanks to everyone for all the replies.

I think I understand it much better now.

Since I do not plan on fighting things higher than +5 levels the 45% defense I have should work out fine (except when those lucky shots get through all at the same time and I get flattened like a pancake )
  15. I know that 45% is softcap and above that is basically only good to fend off defense debuffs.

What I want clarification around is if 45% is just for even level mobs?

If the minions are say +1 can I get them still down to just 5% chance to hit me or will they have that 1.1 modifier to of set no matter what?

    Thanks.
  16. First thing I see right off.

    End Recovery - 1.97/sec
    End Use - 1.97/sec

So you won't be lasting long when all your toggles dropped due to lack of endurance.

The way the power works is to target an enemy and activate it, then click the teleport circle somewhere.

It grabs them and a space around them (so other guys can come) and throws them thru to the new spot.

It is great for grouping up as it also stuns them.

To have some fun go to a low level area, target a group of guys and then look up in the air to release them in mid air. It is funny because they get thrown way up in the air and then come bouncing down.

Additionally, when there are bosses involved you get that slight chance of getting a TF drop from them.

I have been working on my build and it is coming along but still needs more filling out and am sitting at 50's/x6 or x7 with bosses and going at a decent click but I think once I get a few more of the sets filled in it will be 50's/x8 with bosses no problem.

War can you post the data chunck ro data link for the build?
  20. If you have your pet window open wouldn't it show if the buff went onto them?

Also, if you watch the numbers that come up from the pets while the attack and the hit FS and see if those numbers increase.
  21. A few key points on those powers.

Speed Boost is per person and increases their run speed, attack rate AND endurance recovery. Also cannot be cast on self.

Siphone Speed is only for the caster. Requires a To Hit against an enemy. Increases run speed and attack rate (no endrance recovery). The power also reduces the attack rate and run speed of the target which is hit.

Inertial Reduction is a PBAoE around the caster and just gives everyone increased jump height and speed.

Many people love SB but some do not like it because the increase in the run causes them to have issues controlling their character. I have also had teammates that have issues with it because the increase speed causes issues with their machine because they are already taxing it with their graphic settings they are already using.

Inertial Reduction does not get that kind of reaction normally because the increases it provides are not normally outside of a range of what a person uses a lot (those people that do not like SB also normally do not take Super Speed).

Siphon Speed is much different than SB because of the effect it also has on the enemy being attacked. It is great hitting a boss with it and stacking it so they barely are ever swinging while you tear them apart.
  22. If you highlight a person and click on actions, one of the options should be Info.

That will show you the information on the character such as powersets, set bonuses, PvP ratings, and one of the tabs is Description.

    Fire/Kin Build

So I have a Fire/Kin that I do a lot of farming with but also do other missions and some TF's with.

I wanted to avoid having multiple builds to have to populate out.

So I put this together to work towards and wanted to see if I have items that are just glaring wrong or make no sense.

    Thanks for any help.

  24. Does the unique from this set (Resist Bonus Aura for Pets) work for the Fire Imps?

And if it does work how can you tell it is running?

    Thanks.
  25. I seem to remember doing it before.

I thought it was just something like hitting enter to get to the chat window and then it stayed up while you were in the other screen.

I remember doing this before while in the SG Base editor.

I cannot go on an verify but will try later tonight and get back with results.
