I *had* to reply to this, even though I'm in the States. (New post search brought it up)
The most painful injury I've ever sustained was a boating accident. In a... um... 16 foot? boat, out near the rigs in the Gulf outta Freeport, TX, 4-5 foot swells (I think...)
'Captain' of the boat says we're moving. Fine. Reel in all the rods, and start putting them away. I'm having a tad of trouble stowing my last one, when he goes "Ready?" and pours the coals on, no answers needed, I guess...
Well, that was fine and all, except I wasn't seated and holding on, as I wasn't done puttin' the rod away (btw, I'm at the fore portion of the boat.) Dip down into a valley (or whatever it's called), the rod is just now put away, and *just* as I'm tryin' to grab the seat, the boat's going back up the swell... and then falls out from under me on the other side... now I'm totally detached from the boat, in mid air, due to the 'flippage' and decent of the boat.
Great.
I now begin to fall down to the boat, as I'm simultaneously travelling with the boat's direction... but slightly slower, don't you know. Worse yet, the boat now is coming *back* up another swell as I'm coming down on it... but I'm slightly less forward than I was overall before...
*SMACK*
I about passed out, and wish I had, but I never did. All I could do, after the initial tirade of swearing, was moan. A lot. I landed on the edge of the seat area (that's the 'not so forward part') on my right butt cheek, on a hard edge, not a cushioned one. That I did not split open and bleed out, I don't know how. I do know I tore muscles and stuff. That was the end of the boating day, btw.
The torn up gluteous did not metastasize(?) into bone (which I understand does happen.) Worse off, though... I fell asleep on a heating pad and blistered the bruise. Man... I was a hobblin' hurt. Oh, and it left a permanent side to side crease in addition to the blister scars. Lovely. No butt modeling for me... Not that anyone wants to see my man butt in the first place, but still, it's an option no longer open.
Another inch or so 'not so forward' and I wouldn't be walking, I'm certain. So out of all the outcomes (beside not happening) that could have happened, I'm ok with the result, if one has to be ok with a result such as this. But as it is, I have a permanent reminder of that day. It took me 2 or 3 months to get back to 'normal', and it took about 1.5 weeks to get back to work.
That's the most painful thing I've sustained. And still, to this day: Not one broken bone. And I threw my face at the concrete from a motorcycle. All I got was a split chin. That didn't hurt near as bad as the boat thing. -
But just think of the technicolor awesomeness of auras flashing throughout Skyway, or maybe viewing from the mountains in Port Oakes or such... it'd be glorious.
I say... default it to a short range, but for those of us with uber tech, let us crank it to 11 on *everything.* Even if it's just to see what it looks like...
/Even at 200 world detail, it's still chopped off... -
(Still not diggin' the "Quick Reply" button thing)
Not to be contrary, but I highly doubt it's WAI. It's more "thrown into this bin of things, so it's just the way it is." feeling to me. Other things can be cast in hover. Doesn't make any sense, as has been mentioned. Ah well. I's just curious. -
Howdy all! *waves*
I'm sure this has been hashed out, but the awful search engine in this thing is... well, awful.
Is there a known issue regarding hovering and casting a Vet Pet? I have a character who just got hover, and can't cast the Vet Pet without being on the ground.
I understand certain ground based powers need this, but a pet? Odd.
Just curious. I'm dealin' with it, but still... it's not... right, in my opinion...
Thanks! -
Interesting responses, lotsa character basis mentioned... mine's nowhere near as interesting.
I live in Houston, TX, so houtex it is. That, and I use it for many other forums. Just is who I is online.
Yes, there's other 'Houtex's out there (mind the 'h' on mine, k?)... they're imposters, shoot them on sight.
/ok, not really, but do give them a hard time for me, ok? -
I hope that one of the fixes is spawn points in outdoors maps. They're *awful*. And broken to boot.

Quote:What, whoa, really!?Probably... not. Jay reportedly turned down making more modest female outfits, which torpedoed my hopes for hooped ballgowns.
Jay can turn down things?
Jay has lost some of his alleged sexiness. I mean, a man who can't handle the *challenge* of making modest female costumes...
/just sayin'.
//if that's even true, the superpower of telling bosses 'No, I won't!' and still having the job... -
Sorry, changed my mind, much better now. -
*still not diggin' the "Click a Quick Reply button" thingy...*
I play, if I have to, on a Dell Inspiron C840. It sucks a lot, but it works, I have a specially made 4:3 hero called Notebook Warrior for when I'm on it. To keep it cool, I pop out the front loaded batteries (It has a spare in the second slot) and prop it up with those, as it's on AC anyway if I'm playin'. That's all that's needed, it keeps the heat trapping out of the picture... You can tell when it's gettin' heatsoaked...
/and the angle of the keyboard is actually quite nice that way.
//I'mma gonna call the thing Energizer... it keeps going, and going... -
As this is where I roam, and not much else in these forums, I ask the Mod's leniency this one time a year, where I have made another round trip about the sun successfully (mostly.)
Not because I want everyone to know I've made another trip, that's not terribly important.
No, it's because I have spent so much time, that some who still roam these boards know about me, and I want to share something with them, and you all:
But first, an important item to note: The age of my body, which is 42. My mind is 25, so that's what I tell everyone. However, the body is what people count up years for, so that's what I am today: 42. Happy birfday to me and all that. But that's not why I came in here, honestly, to say.
Now, having said that, the item I wish to report to you all is this:
My family is the bomb.
I hear a couple of people nodding their head in agreement. Although, the sound of heads nodding is quite faint, so you have to be talented like me to hear it.
But quite a lot of you might wonder why they're the bomb, and so I'll tell you.
Not only did I get a cake with '42' emblazoned on it in a friendly shade of green on white butter cream icing, with strawberry cake inside (OMG YUM)
Not only did they all show up for to eat and make merriment
But they all gave me towels. Lots of towels. Little hand towels, kitchen towels. Well, and one matching potholder, because, well, one of them has to do that. And some gift cards too, sure, but it was all about the towels. I'm sure you guys and gals can appreciate that, right?
That so very rocked. I love my family. Y'all can sass that, right? A buncha hoopy froods, the lot of them. So, there ya go. I've shared with y'all as I wanted. Again, mods, I know it's not terribly kosher, but it's my one little time of the year... be lenient with the ban stick? Pretty please?
Que sera, though, and understood if so. In either case... thanks, g'night, all! -

Well, to be honest, a switch to a dual core CPU would be a really good idea, seeing as you've got a single Single core P4... 2.8 not bad, but single core and Co* is really hurtin in comparison. Add to that only 1G of ram... doable, but not really great...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...se&Order=PRICE
IMO, that's a mandatory thing, aside from the video card issue. You need some ram to make Co* work well, and not thrash the hard drive paging stuff. It's cheap at 30 bucks for 2G, which will do wonders over the 1G you have now. If you can afford it, 4G would be better, even though XP can't see all of it.
As far as the video card goes... The PCI-e slot is a 1.0 x16, so anything will work that fits.... so it's down to how much power you can afford to give it. Maybe a nice 9600GT?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...e=&srchInDesc=
I run that one, albiet an EVGA. I like it a lot. Not terribly pricey, and will run in your system.
I'm sure I'll be schooled in the ways of better video cards, but given what you've got, I don't think I'd go higher than that. -
*still not diggin' the 'click a Quick Reply button' thingy...*
Here's one: The power to put a stupid huge signature picture. Why they came up with that, I'll never know. -
*still not diggin' the 'click to quick reply' button thing* <- there's one.
Howdy Arbiter Kim! Glad to see ya, welcome to the party.
And since you asked, not including the above little teensy issue...
Spawn points in the Architect are *horrible* for all outdoor maps. Either they don't show up, aren't front to back in anyway, or are, worse of all... OUTSIDE THE MAP AREA.
This is a huge story breaker for my arc that I *would* have submitted to the contest (you may have heard about it), but it can't be finished with the spawn points as horribly screwed up as they are.
Thanks, and again, welcome aboard! *waves* -
Exactly. Make a C:\Games folder, and stick Co* in that: C:\Games\City of Heroes.
Make sure the Games folder has no restrictions on writing or reading, and it should be good to go. -
*still not liking the 'push the quote button above' thing*
I saw this and I almost squee'd. Except for one thing:
*I CAN'T FINISH MY STORY*
"Why, pray tell, houtex, can you not finish your original story?" one may ask, and before one does (although they may attempt below, and that's fine) here's why:
Outdoor spawns are totally screwed up, to the point that neither of the MA missions I make, whether it's the single "get 'em all" EB+ mission for fun, or the outdoor 'gotta catch (character name here) can't be set to be IN THE BACK... and further, the spawn points are the same for 3 *different* maps, and for 4 different sets of spawn/map combos... including spawn points that are OUTSIDE the 'fenced in' area, making both missions (the solo one, and the 'contained in the story' one.) totally useless, and even broken, and not been fixed yet...
Except for that, I'd have my Dawn Sisters arc done and ready for submission.
But you all won't ever see it in the current way of things. Which is a shame really. Not that I'd win, but I'd surely like to throw it in the ring anyway.
Just thought I'd point that out in case anyone who cares and also programs spawn points for the maps might want to know of a really bad greivance caused by the faulty locations.
Thanks for your time.
And indeed, good luck to all who enter! -
Roger that, was kind of thinking a similar 'stuck' idea... gonna roll a new one and see what happens... keep notes... that whole boring "verify testing" thing.
Thanks for yer inputs! -
*still hating the 'click on a quick reply button' thing*...
Not a team. Just me. And I'm getting +2 mobs in missions. On Heroic. Wrong. My opinion, of course, based on memories that this used to not be the case.
Sweep Mode is to do street sweeping, not missions. I have characters which I don't do missions with. Kind of a concept thing. Wayfun.
I am getting maps with 80% +2s. And I just leveled, and started a new mission... +2s.
Not tryin' to argue, just reportin' in.Thanks for tryin' to help, I do appreciate the efforts, believe me!
-
Boiling it down:
Ok, I think I get it... EBs may be a part of life, and if so, that's fine. As long as they're +0 EBs, then it makes sense, and I can live with that.
But if they're +1s, or the mobs are all +2s... that's jacked up. Is there NO consensus on this bit? Not even a little? I'm set to the LOWEST POSSIBLE SETTING... why am I even getting these results?
Please don't interpret the caps as yelling... It' more emphasis on the point. Lowest possible shouldn't produce +2s, at all.
Again, unless I missed something. I've been playing this game in a teamed or sweep mode, and haven't been paying as much attention to the missions as I probably should have... but it still seems like I don't remember the lowest settings producing these weird results. -
Questions that come to mind...
1) What is your friend using?
2) How far away is he from you?
3) Are you using your computer at your friend's, or are you borrowing his? (since you said 'laptop', I'm kind of assuming you took that with you to his house)
4) What kind of router do you have? And what is his?
5) You say AT&T, but there are at least two services I can think of for home use: Uverse and DSL... which?
All I got, but it may be very informative to know these... -
*hates the 'click a quick reply button' thing...*
@Texas Justice:
Pardon my ignorance, but what's 'WAI'? I'm guessing something about Way ... Intended or such... but I didn't find it in Google either... help a brother out?
I've not seen an AV unless my missions are being run with 4 people or so... and each time it was "What, really?! An AV in this one?" Everyone was in a 'huh' moment.
The EBs for 4 is... I guess normal. But not for a lowest level, single person mission. At least, it didn't use to be. Not that I remember... Boss maybe. Certain characters, given what I'm seeing, couldn't solo any more if this were the case. Not with any decent decorum of time vs XP. It might be possible, but it certainly is irritating, the amount of extra time being force upon a character...
Bosses in all missions. All the time. Any character, any server. 10s, 20s, 30s... doesn't matter what level. I'll sometimes go sweeping to get a level rather than try to put up with it, so I can at least get some semblance of balance my character against 3 +0 LTs...
It just seems... harder than the settings indicate. I'm going to have to look into it more deeply... the last couple of characters were sweepers, and contactless, only doing missions if someone else had me on the team, in which case, I didn't care what the fairness was.
---
@ Ms. Mesmer:
Every once in a blue moon, the -1 mobs will show up... but it's not frequent.
---
Here's something to note... while the missions are spawing +1s and EB end bosses, the ambushes are all +0. So there's that. So far.
Needs more experimenting... maybe it's an 'old character vs new character' thing... Hm... -
Hey all.
Let's say I'm set to Challenge Level 0, aka Heroic (for Heroes), or as it's shown in the window:
Level: +0 (x0 players) No AV
Now, I interpret that to be...
+0, or the same level. Therefore, I'm an 18, the mission is an 18, I should expect level 18 minions, yes?
(x0 players), or I am soloing, and do not have it set to think there's more than me.
No AV is pretty self explanatory.
First question: Am I correct in this assumption of same level as mission, no additional critters beyond solo, no AVs?
---
Now, assuming that I'm right in my interpretation... I should expect same level critter minions and LTs, with the occasional bump up +1... and maybe a +0 boss every so often... right?
And yet... I'm winding up with +1 and even +2 critter minions, LTs and bosses... and +0 EBs at the end of some missions. Which seems a bit off, given I'm saying I'm milquetoast.
Did I miss some memo about increasing basic difficulties behind our backs or...?
I thought at first maybe it was on a particular character, but I'm finding that it seems to be all of them across the board.
Is it just me?
'Cause if it is, I want a special medal or something for puttin' up with that at level 11... -
Howdy folks.
Seems like if I have a new character, and I'm doing missions with it... and I've *never* been to the Hero Corp Rep to change my... uh, rep... I'm doing missions with +2Lt and minions.
Not that my character can't handle it, but it still seems... odd to me. I would think that the missions would be +1 at max. Heck, I'm getting EBs. *EBs* on a Hero Level 1, single man mission. Seems like that's not right at all.
Am I right in thinking this is incorrect? Or did I miss a memo?
Thanks!
/Grav/Kin 'troller soloing an EB does take a bit of time and patience, but Atta went down, yo.
