Claws wishlist: Alternate animation for Eviscerate. Anything will do.

Just a couple things I saw after a quick glance, and I've never played a Kat scrapper before, but I'd say I'm pretty good with /WP. Don't bother slotting those attacks for endurance, RTTC either. You're a willpower scrapper with QR and Stam early, act like it!
Leave the Dam/End enhancements out of your builds in CI's and Sciroccos and replace them with tasty recharge, a proc or whatever else might be lacking. You really only need 5 slots of crushing impact and scirocco's, so six slot those attacks and make the sixth slot something good. That sixth slot in Heightened Senses is useless, move that slot somewhere else where it might do some good. You can get better mileage out of 3 slotting tough and mind over body with Aegis', saving you a slot from each in the process. I'd try to at least to 5 slot build up with Adjusted Targetting, those have some nice set bonuses and are fairly cheap. You want the Steadfast unique in a fourth slot of HPT, that makes it always on (even if you get detoggled) and ready for exemping when you join up on that Posi TF. Those Kismet's might go better in combat jumping, getting them in your build early as well.

The easy answer to why play a /WP toon when /SD is available is simple, regeneration. What makes AV's hard to solo? Their ability to regen back HP's as fast as you can deal it. A fully saturated RttC can put you above 1000% regen on most well slotted /WP toons. If you can manage to add any level of defense to that, it's godlike for scrappers. IMO the above build manages to reach the softcap, but sacrifices heavily it regen/recovery strengths. The attacks are all underslotted and waiting till 44 for any endurance help is a pretty big leap. Waiting till 47 for RTTC, and then underslotting it, thats a crime.
I see what you were shooting for though, and you managed that well, kudos on showing the best way to hit that softcap. I think a good mix of +HP and regen, combined with trying to get your typed defenses in the mid 30's is a good target to shoot for when IO'ing out a build. I am seriously considering trying out your notion of dropping the fitness pool and grabbing PP instead. Health and Endurance was never a problem in my run to 50 on a FM/WP scrapper, so maybe I could tone it back a notch and get an extra slot or two to put somewhere else. -
With a 70 mil budget Tenacious T, you're really going to have difficulty putting that build together, or even getting a decent start at it. The Thunderstrikes and Makos aren't bad, so getting those slotted up won't be difficult and will do alot to getting you towards that ranged defense softcap. The Posi's on the other hand are now quite expensive and rare, I was shopping for a set last night, and you really need them. And making it worse, I think you're really gonna want to 6 slot your three Posi sets with more recharge, you definitely want RoA and Fistful up as often as possible. I'd almost drop Explosive if I was you, it will be expensive to slot, and if you group much, everyone hates that 3.32 power scatter KB. And finally, to be reasonable and try your best to get your build to work and be affordable, you might want to reconsider the LoTG recharges and the Zephyr KB, the cost of those are going to kill you. I've got builds simular to yours in this thread and that other Archery/Energy thread, if you've got any other questions shoot away.

I played my DB/SR scrapper for the first time since I-16 last night and it seemed like I was getting the "whiff"ing miss sounds even when I was actually hitting. I was playing with the difficulty slider so things were happening crazy fast and I might be incorrect, and with all the extra tick dots and AOE orange numbers I didn't notice the "miss", but I'm sure I noticed the sounds being off. The whiff sound, but then my next power would get the orange circle so I'd just continue my chain and everything worked out. I run focused accuracy and was popping yellow insps as fast as they dropped, so I'm sure I wasn't missing much at all, if any. Maybe it was on the AoE or cone powers, I'd hit a couple guys but miss one and that would prompt the whiff sound? I dunno, I'll play with it some more tonight, just curious if anyone else noticed an issue or was it just me.
As a note, I only run the sweep and AV combos, no BF or other DB attacks. I'm running a level 47 DB/SR scrapper, most all of my attacks are fully IO slotted. -
This is my archer's build, he's got capped range defense and I took force mastery over munitions mastery. I've heard enough criticism over LRM to figure it unwise to be the reason to chose munitions, over the great utility of force. If you do indeed get over your head (and don't let these guys fool you, we all faceplant alot), nothing will save your bacon better than personal force field and force of nature. And I'd say this build is on the cheap side, all the makos and thunderstrikes are fairly cheap to slot. And i'm a hoverblaster, so I chose hover and fly for my first travel powers, then had the room to get the speed package as well (it's awful nice to have RoA up as often as possible).

We're all scrappers here, so we know what we all like, lots of carnage fast and tightly packed. I'd go to one of the other sections of the forums, but they are quite hostile when it comes to requests such as these.
The new difficulty slider is nice, and it's made playing very fun again. Since I-16 I've had my scrapper running story arcs and police missions as fast as I can. I'm tired of the same arcs, and as a natural scrapper with no travel powers (save all the teleporters) I hate running from mission to mission. I'll say it, I miss the AE teams pre-I16. I won't say the four letter "F" word thats gets you negative rep comments, because while I didn't mind them, I more like running good, well written AE missions and arcs. So here's my question (sorry, taken me a while to get to it) anyone have any true scrapper AE mission arcs that still give XP and are full of mobs that rush eagerly into melee range to get diced up by my dual blades?
I'll try anyones missions or arcs, and gladly 5 star you for your efforts. I need a good challenging mission and compelling story, and yea, pack in as many bad guys as you can, I need tickets too. -
Claws/WP is a great set that practically picks itself for the first half of your run leveling up. With Fast Healing and Quick Recovery you don't have to worry about fitting in the fitness pool until later. You'll want to grab each of the powers from both sets as soon as they are available for those first 30 or so levels, then you can kind of go in a different direction and try different things. When it comes to slotting, slot up those attacks first, then fill everything out past that in the early levels. You'll get more out of Fast Healing and HPT in those early levels pre-QR than you will Mind Over Body, so after the attacks are fully slotted, throw some heals in those two. Three slot RttC with heals and QR with EndMods as soon as you can, thats when you'll really take off, those powers and a well slotted Spin will make you lethal to large groups of mobs.
There is another thread a few posts down with some good Claws/WP brute stuff in it, including a couple builds. It's kind of hard to mess up one of these brutes, and in the later game you have lots of flexability in IO slotting. Good luck. -
I grabbed follow-up, skipped taunt and shockwave. How does this build look, I had to stay on the cheap side, this is my first villain.

Quote:Here's what I'd do to slot up a Kat/WP toon, and my build is on the cheap side. Kinetic Combats 4-slotted in your attacks would be very nice, but those are pricey and rare, you can get Smashing Haymakers on the cheap and there are plenty of those around. 4-Slotting LoTG's for your defensive toggles are nice, but also pricey, I go with Serendipities. Anyways, Divine Avalance is your friend, I wish he was my fire melee/WP's friend as well, single stacking that get's you up to the softcap on lethal, and I've also got Energy and Negative there as well. You be in the low 30's for smashing, fire and cold, but thats still avoiding quite a few hits. You'll also be sitting at over 600% regen sitting still, you get yourself in a pack of 10 or more and that rises to over 1000% regen. And endurance recovery will be at 208%, keep SoW up as often as you can and you'll be rolling at 238%. Thats all without those pricey health and endurance uniques, you get lucky and get a couple of those and you'll be unstoppable. You know, I've been playing CoH on and off for 3 years. It's only this year that I became a bit more serious about this game as me and my GF are into this heavily together. There are a lot of guides out there that have helped me on this forum. One thing that I haven't had decent information on is secondaries scrapper powersets. It seems like you guys and gals in this particular thread have this down to a science. The debates are good. I've learned a lot on how I should be building my toons according some of the good info in this thread. The guides out there don't focus enough on secondary sets which is more important than your primaries in my opinion. Sadly enough this thread alone will make me give my toons a second look and maybe a respec. My toons aren't bad and my toons have decent survivability below lvl 40. alot better than peer lvls. But they could be better with a second look.
I have a lvl 38 Kat/WP toon that I am surprisingly have fun with. I have a DM/Shield toon at the same lvl. I liked the DM/shield guy first, but now I find myself loving the kat/WP better now. Better AoE's too. I still find myself having to pop greens though. I need to fill some holes. I think I need to slot more for regen and maybe more positional defense at this time. I don't have the numbers, but I think they were ok. But my typed defense is what I might be lacking.
For us ppl who aren't deep into the slotting of set bonuses, I think some of the guides would be better if they told us what they were building off of the sets for in particular.

Loving my Claws/WP brute so far, only level 17. I was playing around with MID's and noticed it's gonna be a tight build. Leaping, Fitness and Fighting seems like a must, making the build even tighter. How skippable are these powers for a Claws/WP brute:
Taunt? Looks like a great place to 6-slot for some melee defense.
Follow-up? Attack + small build-up, but is it really needed on a brute with lots o' fury?
Shockwave? The big KB looks like it would hurt RttC.
Strength of Will? I really liked the added resistance and recovery, short recharge and minimal crash on my willpower scrapper. -
What a great time to come back for you, spines just got a whole lot purtier. And it wasn't too many issues ago that /Inv got some nice new tweaks as well. I haven't played one before, but I can only image how nice a well slotted spines/inv scrapper would run. I'm sure there will be some good mids builds posted up for you before long.
Good luck and welcome back. -
No spines, claws, katana or dual blades. Thats the only thing holding the set back from epic levels of awesomeness.
-
Well, since this post was started to help with a /WP toon, I thought I should throw in my good thoughts about /WP before you totally bail on the set.
-Willpower is strong, what it lacks in defense it totally makes up for in regen, in spades. Most sets, especially /SR will take you until your late 30's - early 40's to really start to shine. In my opinion, as soon as you get RttC slotted at 17, and then a few levels later get QR slotted, you become an absolute killing machine, only slowed down by the fewer mobs around to kill.
-It's a set that you absolutely have little to click, you log on, click on your few toggles and go kill. You just keep a couple greens in the insp tray to cover those few big hits thats get through too fast, then you really don't even have to worry about your green or blue bars as the regen and recovery keep them full.
-Endurance issues? No way. Practically every other set has endurance issues. QR + Stamina means you never will.
-The only challenge with the set is getting the defense numbers up to a good level. I honestly never messed with any of that on my first /WP to and his tear to 50. Before the days of AE, I basically would go to hazard zones and jump smack dab in the middle of large spawns and lay waste to everyone while hardly noticing any bumps in the road in regards to health, the regen on RttC is that uber. I'm setting out to really push my next /WP toon to the limits though, so getting my defenses up to good levels will only make me better.
I'm not going to speak ill of any other sets, as I have equally loved my /SR and /SD toons and their fights to 50, but nothing has played like my /WP scrapper. I think only a few of the sets really embody scrapperness like /WP, the shrugging off of large numbers of foes and concentrating specifically on doing what we do best, wreaking havoc. -
I noticed in your second build you dropped the ToD's, I think that wise as the set bonuses were really wasted on a toon going for typed defenses. Better to use those gems on a shield scrapper alt.
And gratz on all the kinetic combats, I can't imagine the patience and inf required to purchase all those.
Is your slotting of HPT the wise use of a Numina's set? The endurance and recharge are wasted as HPT uses none, and the bonuses of the first three are significant, but past that...
AS you posted in the Willpower thread, I see you took focused accuracy. I took tactics on my build just as something I could two slot (was running out of slots) and use the set bonus of the rectified reticle.
At any rate, gratz on having some really pricy IO's to give you a very mean build, looks like you'll be plenty sturdy and with FM really be able to dish out some pain. -
Bah, you Katana wimps can't use a shield, BS FTW!
-
We are talking about Willpower here, correct? Endurance issues? You're doing something wrong. QR + Stamina on my FM/WP toon meant I never saw my blue bar move, and thats with me going out of my way to slot my toggles and attacks neglecting endurance reduction.
I'm not saying, I'm just saying... -
Kinetic Combats are extremely rare and expensive. If you can't afford them look into Smashing Haymakers.
-
-
How does this build look, this is my proposed build for my level 50 FM/WP, and on the cheap side.

I know slotting for positional defense is the way to go, build those defenses up from where Heightened Senses leaves off.
Doh, meant Typed defense, not positional. I did reference the correct power though, so I gotta get at least partail credit for the incorrect statement.
And one other note, I've gone and used Smashing Haymakers for my attacks (because Kinetic Combats are so rare and expensive), half the S/L bonus but still 1.88 is nothing to sneaze at. -
I'd be curious to hear some responses here as well.
My first scrapper to 50 was a FM/WP and leveling him felt like easy mode. I never really worried that much about his build and slotting him, as all the regen coupled with RTTC seemed to keep my green bar (and blue bar as well) full at all times. I never really challenged him though, no big AV fights, no difficulty slider. Since I-16 I've started another willpower toon and would like to make him as sturdy as possible while not sacrificing too much on my attack chain. And I'd also like to dust off my old FM/WP and give him a spin and push his limits, maybe do some farming.
I know slotting for positional defense is the way to go, build those defenses up from where Heightened Senses leaves off. I've even managed to softcap /WP, but the cost of all of the Kinetic Combats, not to mention the waste of mule slotting brawl and Kick with KC's seems rediculous. So whats a happy medium? Whats a good target to shoot for in regards to defense? How much regen and recharge could I still hope to squeze in? -
Quote:Doh, yup, I always 2-slot active defense. I was working off of your build instead of doing one from scratch, you had me messed up! =) I also like to take True Grit early in a build, in the pre-20 game you'll get alot more mileage out of those added HP's at 0 endurance cost than you will out of your two defensive toggles.Whisky Jack,
That's a good cheap build. FYI, your ranged is over by 3.5 or so percent. You may want to make sure that you are accounting for the missing ranged defense in phalanx fighting.
As a suggestion. You can use the suggestion made above (that I plan to use) and trade out the 6 set mako's for a 5 set crushing impact and still be at cap. Then you can put an extra slot in active defense to keep it perma. Right now you have a 20 second gap in protection -
In the last days of AE..../sigh
When I still had tickets thats how I made my money. There are actually a few good rares that can pop up in that 10-14 bronze range, the karma -KB and also one of the regen unique's. I've sold quite a few of all of them back when I had the tickets. -
Here's my "significantly cheaper" than your "Poor man's" build. =)
Oblit's, LoTG's, ToD's, Aegis, all too rich for my blood. Serendipity, Multi-Strikes and Mako's for me, I've pulled off this build on the super cheap side on both my BS/SD and now my EM/SD. Sure, you sacrifice recharge and regen and some of the other nice bonuses, but cheap is cheap. I've also had to go with the Body Mastery epic over the new Fire set, and also had to take manuevers. But with CP and PP my endurance isn't as much of an issue anymore, and manuevers gets me to the softcap without the expensive recipe sets.
