Create a free account on Photobucket or ImageShack and upload the image to that account, then you can use it for your forum avatar.
Or, you could follow the steps in Aggelakis's link and use the %7e replacement for the tilde. Or use Zombie Man's suggestion there to use tinyurl to mask the link. -
Also, make sure he has fully updated Vista, including Service Pack 2 and all other updates. Those will likely do more good than the no longer needed -compatiblecursors tag.

Known issue, well, not really an issue, but a known problem.
IIRC, you need to copy the CoHUpdater.exe to the Desktop and run it from there. Not a shortcut to the CoHUpdater.exe file, copy the actual file and double-click that.
Here's what's happening, again, IIRC. It is trying to update itself and other files in the game folder, but since you are using that instance of the file to launch the game it is in use and can't be updated. Making a copy on the desktop gets around this. -
Quote:And, as was pointed out earlier in the thread, this is not the proper venue for it either, just as the other thread wasn't.Stamping your foot angrily will not get you any results. You need to give the devs information so that they can isolate the problem.
This may not even be a problem with the game. It could quite easily be caused by a key logger or some other kind of malware that only crops up with the market. In that case, no amount of screaming at the devs will ever resolve the issue.
File a /bug report or send a PM to Arbiter Kim or to The Television. Arbiter Kim is the "go to" Dev for bugs, and The Television is the new head of the programming team.
Snide comments such as your remark of "But I just want to point out that a good programmer could really improve the functionality of this game." would not be appropriate commentary for those PM's. We have some extremely good programmers working on the game as it is. However, they have not written every line of code in the game and not all of the code was adequately documented by previous programmers. Even when code is properly documented, you still get moments of "how the heck is this piece of code affecting system y when it only deals with system x?" -
Quote:Yes. Laptops in college in '95. I have a few friends that were taking a program that had some computer repair classes along with some networking classes around that time, and one of the perks of the program was that you wound up with a laptop loaded with diagnostics software. True, you used the laptop the entire time you were in the program, but it wasn't a locked down system that kept you from loading anything.heheh, I guess it serves me right to ask something that doesn't have a copy-paste answer.
Laptop in college in 95? Do you know how many dime bags you needed to unload to even BUY a laptop back then? Not to mention the stares you would get if you popped one out in VLSI Lab class. =D
EDIT: Oh yeah, you can likely do the same thing using the Mobility Modder program over at DriverHeaven. There is one for ATI cards and one for nVidia cards if I remember correctly. -

And today we get a Pink/Purple/whatever name that shows up in the Community Digest.

Quote:It could also have come from Rep given on posts prior to the ones you checked.Anyone know exactly how rep works? My rep was 1 green dot and 37 0r 38 points when I checked it last week. Today I logged in and I have 5 green dots and almost 500 rep points. I checked all my posts from the whole last month and only found one that got a + rep by one person. Not that I'm complaining, but how did that multiply my rep so much?
I've had people give Rep on months old posts in months dead threads. Of course, it was someone harassing me and it was dealt with. Even though the identity of the persons leaving the comments is hidden from us, it isn't hidden from the moderators. -
I've not crashed or disconnected more than twice at either Wentworth's or the Black Market since shortly after they were introduced. Not even when I go to Talos WW right after a Hami Raid when seemingly half of those that were at the raid are in WW.
Nobody I talk to in my global channels has reported more than the rare occaisional crash or disconnect at either markeet.
Not sure how you can refer to that as being widespread.
Could be an issue on your computer or along the network connection between you and the servers. -
The dates your veteran reward is supposed to be rewarded shouldn't change just because it is awarded late.

From what I've read of TriDef, it is designed for DirectX9 games. Here is a link to a page on their site about 3-D games.
Since CoH is an OpenGL game, that explains your problems with it. -
Really? Where did you get that info from?
Everything I've been told in the past by Devs is that it only used DirectX for audio.
I have to put this with your previous comment that GR would be compatible with the nVidia 3d Vision tech. What we've been told by those that know is that nVidia doesn't have this working with OpenGL yet, but they are trying to get it working in time for GR. -
1024x600 ???? That's a rather odd sizing. A standard monitor (not widescreen) would handle a 1024x768 resolution as a normal sizing. Dropping it to 1024x600 would possibly cause the loss of some of the screen real estate and possibly cause distorted images.
Try setting your desktop resolution to 1024x768and set the game to the same setting and see if you get a full screen. -

Quote:Not sure if the OP is paying attention to this thread anymore. I posted about EMPulse not being on the Feed 2 months ago, and she's still not there.
Pretty bad when the head of the Community team can't get put on the list. -
Ok, just found an interesting post in the Killer Xeno forums that directly relates to this. They got some odd results.
Initially, they weren't able to get past the Server Select screen with the NIC in Game Mode. They set the NIC to Application Mode and were able to connect. After getting out of the game they set it back to Game Mode and it still connects, through multiple reboots and various other activity.
If you right-click that Killer Tray Icon you will see an option for Application Mode so just select it and try to connect. If it allows you to play, go ahead and enjoy it. You may want to try setting it back to Game Mode after that and see if it will work, as it did for the QA guy for Bigfoot Networks (manufacturer of the NIC). -
I'm wondering if it is something in the Killer Xeno Pro NIC that is causing the problem. I know that it has firewall capabilities, and it could be that it isn't allowing the traffic through.
I'm not that familiar with that NIC, just remember seeing some specs on it that mentioned the firewall. You might check your documentation or call Alienware Tech Support for help configuring the firewall on that NIC to work with the game. You could also try right-clicking the Killer Tray icon and selecting Firewall then set it to Off to see if it resolves the problems. If it does, you should be able to set an exception for CoH. Be aware that many Security programs and Firewalls need to have the exceptions reset after game updates.
Hope this will help, or that someone else will spot something I'm missing. -
Are you behind a router? If so, what kind?
Is it a wired connection or a wireless connection?
What security software are you running? Specific brands and types such as Norton Security Suite, Kaspersky Anti-Virus, ZoneAlarm Firewall, etc.
You may also want to post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings.
Also, post a log from running HijackThis. This will show what else is going on on your computer while you are playing CoH.
The answers to the above questions may give us a better insight into the cause of your problems. -
Out of curiosity, what 3d system is it using? I know that the nVidia 3D Vision technology we were shown at HeroCon does not work with CoH, through nVidia's own admissions. I don't remember for certain, but I think it is a problem they are having with OpenGL which is the system CoH uses. They (nVidia) said they are working on getting those problems resolved, but don't have an estimate on when it will work.
If it is the nVidia 3D Vision system, their website lists what games are supported in the 3d Vision environment. -

Welcome aboard.
You don't have to be crazy to hang out here, but it helps. -
First off, Congratulations to Positron, War Witch, Dark Watcher, Ghost Falcon and The Television!
Welcome to the madhouse Doc Delilah.
Oh, you'd exist all right, you just wouldn't be saying much (if you said anything). -
First off, update to Service Pack 2. It has resolved many stability issues, and it has definitely helped with the video crash issues. You can get it through Windows Updates, or use the direct download link here for the Standalone installer.
Next, install all of the Critical Updates using Windows Updates. Sometimes you have to install some of these updates before you'll even see the Service Pack 2 update.
I'd also recommend lowering the Water Effects to None or Low and turning off Bloom as those are a known issue with the ATI cards and CoH at this time. Those issues are supposed to be resolved with Going Rogue and the concurrent issue release for those that don't purchase GR. I'd also turn off Depth of Field as well for now.
You may want to see if you can find updated sound drivers as well. It's surprising how seemingly unrelated systems like audio and video can affect each other.
I'll leave the HJT log to someone else and won't bother commenting on your screen resolution.
For future reference, DXDiag logs are pretty much useless to us as they give unneeded information and it's difficult to find the information we do need easily because of that. The CoH Helper log pulls all of the data that we need that would be in the DXDiag report. -
According to the specs for the system, it's got an AGP slot and a 250 Watt power supply. Knowing what I do of Dell's, it's very probable that it's a non-standard sized power supply.
As far as upgrading your video card, I'd have to agree with Flameshot. At Newegg in the 50-75 price range, there are three nVidia 6200 cards that will fit with your system specs, although the power supply may still be a bit light. In the 75-100 range there is one nVidia 7600 card and this would strain the power supply a bit more I think.
I didn't bother with pricing an AGP version of an ATI card in those price ranges.
Overall I don't think you'd be getting much bang for your buck upgrading the video card. As with Flameshot, I'd recommend saving up to replace your entire computer.
