Any way to see rep info?

I know they've taken the reputation comments off the User CP page, but is there any other way to see who/when your rep changed?

I know it's not important in the big scheme of things, but someone gave me some rep points recently, and it would be nice to know who it was and why.

Yup. Search for all of your posts. On each one, click the rep thing until you find the comment.

Sorry to be so dense, but by "click the rep thing", do you mean click on the rep rectangle under my name on each post? I've never seen that do anything but display the pithy little description of what your rep total supposedly means. Or am I missing something?

On each post of yours, click the scales icon as if you were giving rep to yourself. It pops up telling you what rep you currently have and whether that particular post received any rep. If it did, then you see some of the comments. Maybe all of them. Not sure on that.

EDIT: Oh, I see... you have to open each post.

That's why I don't do it.

So....what are these reputation points -for-? Is there any use for them other than "bragging rights"?

Ostensibly, if someone has a lot of positive rep points, it means that they are making posts that people approve of, whether for factual and necessary information, witty commentary, etc. Likewise, if someone has a lot of negative rep, you can probably assume that they're known for being a jerk, troll, etc., and to take their posts with a grain of salt.

The reality, however, is that none of that's true. The mods have even explicitly STATED that reputation is now a "forum game", which is why I have mine turned off. If it means nothing to them, then it means nothing to me.

I just wish I could get the comment in the Control Panel back... they were so fun!

I agree.
I wish I could choose to have that comments section back, perhaps as a expand/contract option.
Those that wish not to see the reactions that others have to thier posts could opt out. Those with burning porcine curiousity like mine could opt in.

That's exactly how they were when they were available. There was a "-" sign that would collapse that section if you didn't want to see them.

Not in my experience. Anything I collapsed in my UserCP was still collapsed the next time I went back.

Then again.. it might have something to do with the cookie issue some people have staying logged in, where I didn't have that issue either.

Yes, so that all the whiny people that don't know how to CONTROL THEIR OWN EYES whined enough so that the mods took it off entirely.

Stupid people ruining it for the rest of us.

I just don't like all the clutter, I would keep it, and everything else minimized unless I wanted to look at something.

Well, SOME of it is kind of true. If someone has a lot of green rep it generally means either 1) people like them, 2) people find them helpful, or 3) they farmed it. If someone has a lot of red rep, it generally means either 1) they got it on purpose for kicks, 2) they're a jerk, or 3) a jerk with a lot of jerk friends decided to massively -rep them.

What the mods have stated about forum rep is, of course, meaningless. End users will always do unexpected things and form their own judgments regardless of the 'official position'.

Which I started to have after they took off the rep comments...

People where also abusing the fact that not only did it not stay closed for everyone, it ignored the ignore function.

Uh-huh... and if those people that were offended and KNEW that comments that MAY offend them would be over at THAT part of THAT screen... why would they look there? Why aren't they smart enough and adult enough to not LOOK.

That's like saying that we should put up a wall around the scene of an accident so that no one that's upset by blood would be traumatized. Hello! If someone is bothered by blood and they SEE an ambulance over there... they KNOW that there will probably be blood... so they just don't LOOK there.

It's just common sense people.

Because not everyone was an *** with them, and some people like seeing the constructive comments.
I wasn't bugged much/at all - then again, I've never been afraid of Report a Post/Petitioning someone either *shrug*

Me, I found that people would give vituperous negative comments when they did -rep, but never say much of anything when they did +rep. It always made me feel like it was more rewarding to be an ***.

I always try to give comments whether I give positive or negative rep.
Examples:
-Rep: "Troll-post based on false assumptions. Argumentative and unable to take polite criticism."
+Rep: "+Rep. Pork Approved!"

Well, to -rep someone they had it set so you had to comment. Not so with +rep

True. Of course, this explains a rep comment like the following:
.

Yes, just a period to satisfy the requirement that a -rep has SOME text.

Um, it was bypassing the ignore feature of the forums. People were using it to grief and harass because they could do so anonymously. So people complained

I like farms, some people don't, so they complained and farms and critters got whacked. People were being ***-hats, some people complained, so rep got whacked.

Oh well.
