Installed Windows 7 and All Hell Broke Loose

OK well maybe "all hell" didn't break loose but I can't play CoH.

I installed 7 Ultimate on my M Series Gateway laptop. (M-1625)

After the fresh install I then installed my software including CoH. Now a system that I could actually play ("Play" it wasn't great but "doable") CoH using Vista, is a complete mess.

First off the game loads to the Log-in screen and character selection screen but while the whole screen goes to game mode the game only displays in the middle of the screen - not out the the edges - leaving a 1 inch black unused boarder around the edges.

Second, when I go to load a character the game takes for ever to zone and ultimately logs back out.

Third the previously not very intrusive scroll bar zone on the touch pad has become touchy and the zone that activates the scroll is not 2 to 3 times as wide as before and constantly getting in the way of any touch pad usage.

Help?

Make sure you have all of the latest drivers for your hardware. Video, chipset and any other hardware. Don't just assume Windows 7 installed the best drivers for those devices. A lot of the Windows 7 drivers are simply placeholders till you get the correct driver.

Right click on City Of Heroes on the desktop and go to Properties then the Compatibility tab. Make sure Run in compatibility mode is unchecked. Further down in the same tab make sure Run as Administrator is checked.

While you're doing that, might as well post a CoH Helper log as well so we get a better understanding of your hardware.

We'll see....

I found the 3D scaling setting and moved it up to the same setting as the Resolution is set to but it did not change the display size issue. I am still missing an inch around the outside.

Oh and something I did or a change in the network speed let me finally get on and play. So just the display size and how to turn off the scrolling on my touch pad.

if you are still missing screen then your resolution isn't right.

In what way isn't it right? I have it set to the same resolution that I did when it was running Vista: 1024x600. I can try upping the resolution but the comp probably will turn into a stuttering nightmare...

Why the !#$@? won't it scale to fill the screen anymore?

1024x600 ???? That's a rather odd sizing. A standard monitor (not widescreen) would handle a 1024x768 resolution as a normal sizing. Dropping it to 1024x600 would possibly cause the loss of some of the screen real estate and possibly cause distorted images.

Try setting your desktop resolution to 1024x768and set the game to the same setting and see if you get a full screen.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Black Pebble is my new hero.

Changed the resolution to the same as the desktop resolution and it fixed the top and bottom lost area but the sides are still narrowed by an inch on each side....

you are going to have to try all of the resolution sizes until it is fixed. i would also recomend finding out if you have the latest drivers for your video card.
