  1. COH is rendered in opengl and as a result is more reliant on video card capablilties. Try turning down these too,

    World Texture Level: Very High
    Character Texture Level: Very High

There was someone else who was having issues with toons not showing up, and I think one of the program game files was corrupt, and had to be deleted, and "fixed".

"You might try the search to see if that was the case, and if it may be your problem as well."

Well, looked up that problem myself, and it didn't seem to be related to your situation. So if turning down graphics, or running the game in "safe mode" doesn't help, I'm out of suggestions.
  2. There seems to be no one set solution for the error. Some have reported turing off windows eye candy helps, (aero), some rolling back drivers, disabling nvidia hdmi audio, to jumping up and down on one leg while whistling.....

I've had a similiar error but not in COX, just World of Tanks, and at times browsing with Firefox.

I was able to set "max performance" in nvidia control panel, and downclock my memory which helped with World of Tanks, and disabling hardware acceleration in firefox and flash, to fix my brower issue.

Do the crashes occur in safemode? Also use a program to check your card temps while gaming, and see if it's running hot. Cards have had issues with solder joints being weak, and as they get warm connections are lost. HWMonitor and GPUZ are a couple I use for checking temps.

Some 100 pages of discussion on the issue here,
    http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?s...ic=187401&st=0
  3. Evga precision did have issues with COH, and I'm not sure all of those have been fixed. You might try running the game without it and see if it helps. GPUZ and HWMonitor are some programs I use to monitor video cards if you still need that functionality. 75c is fine for that card.

I ran that card myself, before an upgrade, and had to turn down world detail, shadows, and ambient occlusion to get good fps.
  4. Oh well, interesting discussion, and thanks for the input all. Support did get back to me and confirmed the need to run an alignment mish first.

I guess all those good deeds I did up to lvl 34 didn't really mean anything, heh. Their game, their rules. Have fun out there!
  5. Nothing stands out in the info, but a cohhelper file might help. Hyperstrikes guide for posting system info.
    http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=231628

Are you crashing after running the game for a bit, or zoning, etc?

Can you run the game in safe mode? I didn't see what drivers your using, and AMD has had some issues with COH and recent drivers. Maybe a AMD user can chime in on the best drivers?

Have you tried turning down graphic settings? Start with ambient occlusion, turning it completly off, turn down shadows and world detail.

Are the temps ok on the card? GPUZ is a program I use as well as Hardware Monitor to watch temps.

The gpu is a little older and even running two isn't much benefit in COH. You may need to try turning down some settings?
  6. Interesting, so your saying even though the toon was created as hero, and never changed alignment, I still have to do a morality mission to be able to claim the reward? Funny stuff. Well, the toon is over lvl 20, so no big problem I guess, but created as a hero and never was anything else. Weird.
  7. New video card, if your system meets the power requirements, and the space for one inside. If you find it isn't enough of an improvement, save the new card for the next upgrade.

Win 7 and more ram helps as well. Anything above 6 GB will show an improvement, especially if your running other things in the background. Those 2 things will be best to try, and if you still find your system lacking, you'll have Win 7 and a new graphics card to start with to put in a new system. I think the for Nvidia, the 560ti is about the sweet spot for cards atm.

COH tends to be a little more graphic card intensive since it is coded in Open GL, and if you can keep other background programs to a minimum, you should see an improvement even with that older processor. My 2 cents
  8. Did the Part 1 of "who will die", and wasn't able to choose the hero merit. "You must have completed your most recent Morality Mission as a Hero reinforcing your Hero alignment to claim this reward".

Sent the bug/support tickets and still waiting on an answer after it was forwarded to senior support. The toon has never changed alignment, and only thing that I can think of that may have affected this was he levled after the 2nd mission of the arc, and I didn't go to train right away.

Anyone else have this happen? Thanks
  9. The "clean install" should be fine unless you've switched cards, AMD to Nvidia, etc. Normally you only remove/clean the nvidia "display" portion of the drivers.
  10. It is an issue thats been affecting people with some applications, incl. adobe photoshop, browers, and games of course. I've had it occur with World of Tanks, but not COX. Lots of things to try, but none seem to be an exact fix for everyone.

The latest nvidia drivers are suppose to address it for some cards, but my case it may have helped WOT, but I got the error just opening Firefox?

I've had some luck down clocking my memory and adjusting, nvidia global control settings, to "perfer maximum performance". This would seem to be directly related as the card doesn't down clock while operating in 2D mode negating the power cycle timeout?

Here is the thread on nvidias forum if you wanna look through the 100+ threads on the issue.
    http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=187401
  11. Sure, building one can be a little overwhelming if its your first time. I don't think upgrading your current system is a very good option at this point.

The "recertified" Asus I bought at newegg has turned out pretty well, but some people have had issues, and that may not be a good option if your not comfortable "crackin a case" to deal with minor issues. I did a little poking around and found this system. For the price, it's not to bad.

    http://dealnews.com/Cyberpower-PC-Ga...-h/508914.html

Cyberpower has been ok for the most part, and if you have trouble, take it back to wallymart. GL with your decision. $449 provide your own monitor. Some specs

    •AMD Phenom II X4 955 processor - 3.2GHz, 6MB L3 Cache
Couple of years old, but not bad for this price.
•4GB DDR3 SDRAM system memory (expandable to 8GB)
6-8 GB is better if your running Windows 7 which this system has.
    •1TB SATA hard drive
    Decent size HD
    •AMD Radeon HD 5450 Graphics
Not a very good video card for gaming. You may need to upgrade this
  12. For about $500 and your spare video card, you might look at FatherXmas computer build. http://tinyurl.com/6cxkar
Its at about $691 but you can shave a little bit of that down if you add in your own video card and maybe swap out a different harddrive or if your able to keep the one you have, use it. Least that will give ya a good starting point.

If you don't mind buying "recertified", (using one myself), look at some here:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...NG&PageSize=20
  13. Sorry, your right, I did misunderstand. That is an odd issue.
  14. Those are 2D vs 3D graphic enviroments. 3D being more intensive on the card. Did you try running things at a lower graphic lvl. Lower shadows, world detail, and make sure ambient occolusion is turned completly off?
  15. Check the error event logs and see if you can find the error(s) listed. There is a way to prevent the restart as well. This will at times allow you to see any error messages that are displayed before the reboot happens.

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/window...-windows-7.htm

There are lots of things that can cause this error, memory, power, etc. You power supply sounds like it's enough, but that doesn't mean it isn't the problem. It could be a bad power supply. Just hard to know until you can find some error codes/messages to isolate the problem.

    New Memory Leak?

You said you tried exiting the launcher, but did you change the settings "within the launcher options" to close/exit?

    Details here by Hyperstrike,

  17. Turning down world details, and turning off ambient occlusion can help alot for slowdowns realted to graphics, as can reducing shadows. You both might want to try that to begin with.

Rebel, Toggle.com, that seems a little suspicious with some mixed reports of malware, trojans, etc?

Vlad, I seem to remember an issue with needing to force FSAA within nvidia control panel, or something similiar. Might wanna check guru3d.com forums and see if it's realated.
  18. Forcing "performance mode" can help at times. Nvidia control panel, global settings, change "adaptive" to "performance". Lower end cards do have trouble with this game when graphics are set to very high. Settings I've seen that can be lowered and help alot include the, World detail, shadows settings, and turn ambient occlusion completly off.

Before I upgraded to a GTX 460, I had a GTX 260 and by reducing these settings, was still able to get respectable frame rates, over 30, even in Pratoria.

The different zones in this game vary quite alot. Some older, less textured areas are much easier for the gpu to render vs the more detailed areas, ie. Pratoria or Grandville.
  19. I've had the "video display drivers have stopped working, and been forced to recover" crash on my system, but not with this game, World of Tanks was causing me that problem, and there seems to be no one standard fix. There are many reports of this error all over the net. Here are a couple resources I came across looking for a fix.

    http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?s...ic=187401&st=0
    http://www.nvlddmkm.com/

You can try to force "performance mode" in the nvidia settings. Go to global settings and then change, "adaptive" to "performance". That might help. Your card is a little under powered and you might want to turn down some settings.

Turn ambient occlusion completly off, and try turning down your world detail, looks like you've got it set to "very high". Thats a lot of rendering going on. Also, you might try turning down shadows if you havn't tried that.

My fix, for this error, ended up being to down clock my memory. That stopped my video display has stopped error, but as you can see in the links I've posted, not any one fix seems to work for everyone.
  20. You might can get some feedback if you add some system specs/info. Follow this guide.

  22. Not an AMD user myself, but I think they have had some issues with their drivers of late. Did you try an older driver version? I'd also try running w/o skype and cyber link running. Skype can be a lil resource hungry and I think cyber link has caused some issues before. You can always restart 'em again later if you need.

BTW if your running a static IP address, I'd be careful of posting the "complete" ping trace. Might wanna edit out your the beginning numbers. Better safe than sorry.

    Horrible Lag

Auslogic makes a good defrag program, have you heard of PCWorld Mag? They reviewed it here, http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/fil...scription.html

The option to move big files to the outside of the platter, (making for faster access), is just one of it's benefits over the windows defragger.

Have you tried taking the router out of the loop? If you still have problems after connecting directly to the pc, then run a trace route to see where you might be losing packets. I've used ping plotter, but there are other, "less strange" ways to do that too.
  24. Average "in game" fps can vary alot actually. The new pratorian area is much more graphic intensive, than say an older zone with less detail textures. The difference for me can be almost 15-20 fps. If your not happy with the FPS, start by turning down AO some and see if that helps.

I do run with AO at performance level, as it seems to be the most impact, AA is around 4-8. Higher isn't that much difference visually vs the performance. Oh, and 200 world detail, I like the vistas.

My specs, I7 920 oc to 3.0, 12 gb ram, win 7, and a gtx 460. Since the game wasn't really coded to take full advantage of SLI, only a slight performance gain for 2 cards really.
  25. You can try to find out where, the packet loss is failing at and try to get the ISP to help once you find it. Ive used http://www.pingplotter.com/freeware.html but there are several other tools/programs you might try as well.
