  1. First, if you have permission to, you should also post in the Mac forum below.

Second, while I haven't had your specific problem, your problems #1 and #2 sound to me like the game isn't able to write your preferences to the local disk. Maybe you should look at the permissions on the various prefs files? I think that would be in ~/Library/Preferences/City of Heroes Preferences. If I'm wrong, hopefully someone will correct me. Not sure exactly which of the many files in there it would be. You could just trash the whole folder and let CoH recreate it. Since it's not saving your settings anyway, not much would be lost.

#3, on the other hand, I believe is stored server-side. A version of that issue has been floating around for everyone, so I'm not sure it's a problem you need to worry about.
  2. Last weekend on the Darkness team before we start the Time Manipulation team! If you've played on the team, come by on Friday for one more session!

(Sunday will probably be slow; I hear there's some kind of sporting event going on then.)

Then join us on the Time Manipulation team on Feb. 10 (see http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=282627)!

That works, too. We move through the lower levels pretty fast; probably only be 2-3 weeks before we're doing tips and going rogue.

That's my alternate choice, too. It'll depend on how high my desire is to blast things.
  5. I've been wanting to try Illusion for a while, so probably illusion/time controller for me.
  6. Starry Night

    CoH 2 Instances

Just out of curiosity, because I might want to try this myself, did you try what CuppaManga suggested in post #4 before starting another thread in the non-Mac player question area? Did it fail?
  7. We've done our first Lambdas! Many Interfaces were unlocked. Then we tried a MoM. And there was much gnashing of teeth.

For Friday, choices abound: SSA#5, WST (Numina/Ice Mistral), more trials. Or, correct me if I'm wrong, we haven't done the LRSF with the Darkness team yet, have we?

    i22 Beta

So far, so good. I've done some Dark Astoria stuff and the mid-level arcs. I created a dark/dark dominator and ran it through the tutorial yesterday.

The only issue I noticed was not Mac-specific and was reported by other (teleport problems in DA).
  9. I run CoH on a late 2010 iMac with a ATI Radeon HD 5750 1G card. For this machine, I've always relied on liberal application of /reloadgfx to keep the memory CoH uses to under 2G or so (at which point the crash probability would rise dramatically). New Atlas Park and the various iTrials were the biggest memory hogs.

Sometime in the last couple months, things seemed to have improved dramatically. I realized that I was no longer ever clicking my /reloadgfx macro button. Last night I did three iTrials back-to-back, and my memory never got about 1.8G. If this keeps up, I may be able to ignore the Activity Monitor (where I kept track of memory) and play fullscreen again!

I have no way of knowing if this was a CoH change or a stealth video driver from Apple, but if it's the former, thank you!
  10. Plus if we go either red or blue, and decide to use one of the old SGs, we can have base access from day one.
  11. I should name my next character 3grak.

This is our first post-Freedom team, isn't it? We could potentially start Red, Blue, or Gold.

I like a lot of the ideas in the previous posts, but I like this one in particular. Imagine large numbers of Ice Storms and Blizzards at once!
  13. The new year opened with a WST Treespec and a Mortimer Kal SF. Chatter continues to rise around our next theme. If you have thoughts, speak up on Friday or Sunday, or post here.

    (1) Consensus seems to be building for a narrow focus--single powerset (like the Traps and Trick Arrow teams).

    (2) Time Manipulation and Beam Rifle have been mentioned as the obvious candidates (they're new, and both have good stacking mechanics). It was noted that Gravity Control is due for tweaking in i22 (whenever that may be). Other suggestions are very welcome!

Some kind of +4 TF has been proposed for Friday (probably LGTF or ITF).

    So it's time for resolutions?

I resolve to take Vengeance and ally and self-rezzes on more superteam characters. Only thing more useful seems to be the travel powers.
  15. The theme-team group I play with on Justice moved its thread to the Justice forum after the Player Events forum was removed. We are currently toward the end of our darkness theme team. I'd guess that (very roughly) we'll start a new one in 1-2 months. No theme chosen yet.
  16. I've started a couple Time and Beam characters, but I also have held off leveling them in preference to doing it with the team. I'd be happy with Time/Beam (but not happy with redraw...), but I admit to liking some variety in the team.

I guess we'll have to start at +4/x8 at level one...
  17. This is exactly the kind of discussion I was hoping for. I came to roughly the same conclusion re: an all-melee team. Everybody's got to be a lot more self-sufficiant. Ironically, I think Dark Armor might work the best times eight--there are three auras that you could stack on enemies.

Anyway, I'm not pushing for melee; I prefer ranged overall. I'm personally hoping for Time or Beam. But it's cool to think about maybe someday having an all-melee "Implements of Destruction" team (any weapon set). I'd love to see all those in action at once.
  18. Sorry, I should have been more clear. I did mean all the "armor" sets, not just the defense-based ones.
  19. Question: can you beat the STF with no tank, brute, or scrapper?

Answer: we did it with the rad team, we did it with the guns team, why would you think we couldn't do it with the darkness team? It took us a while, but three Arachnos Flier defeats later, we did it! My perception was that the darkness team is kind of low-damage compared to our other teams. But I could be wrong about that.

Looking forward...whilst killing vines, we chatted a bit about our next team. My guess is that it's a month or more out, but it's good to get the ideas flowing. A lot of us want to do a single powerset theme next time around. Time and Beam were mentioned as possibilities that allow a lot of abusive stacking.

On the other hand, arafel posed the question of how we can make things more challenging for ourselves. Choosing a powerset that doesn't stack so well might be a first step! Note that there have been two new melee sets released recently (Titan Weapons and Street Justice), with a third coming soon (Staff Fighting). So I pose the question to the hive mind: is there a good melee defense set that we could use for a theme to (a) allow people to choose a new melee set, and (b) not stack so abusively as a support set would?

I have a couple ideas (both with significant drawbacks), but I'm going to keep them to myself until I hear what other people think.

And what a list of trial we have now! We typically have 8-12 folks show up, and if some of us switch to already-incarnated alts (as I suspect we will), we ought to be able to handle a few of the trials at the low end of the numbers range, ie, with SG folks only. Once we get more level shifts, I bet we can handle all of them, SG-only.

If anybody has not hit 50 yet, I'll be running xp teams on Friday for catch up.
I think nearly everyone is 45+ now, so perhaps those xps will come doing a TF that will help others get their alpha slotted properly. Although I don't remember what I need, personally.
  21. I'm up for whatever everyone is doing. I assume when we hit iTrials, we can play any superteam alt we want, right? I already have a Dark Miasma incarnate elsewhere, so I'm not planning to do much with QuCiD beyond T1 alpha.

Too bad 45-50 content exists largely in multiples of eight. Say what you will about grinding iTrials, they do make it easier for our group to all play together. We also managed to get rather level-spread this time around. A couple of regulars are still below 45!
  22. To my eyes, it looks like the Mac patch was not packaged correctly. The patch downloads correctly. The unrar step proceeds without error; I see the usual "PS" directory in the Beta app. However the PatchManifest.xml file is missing. The installer logs back up this interpretation.

Anyone successfully updated to the current Beta patch?

Here's the end of the installer log:

  23. I just got the same error. I haven't tried to debug it yet. Test updated fine, though.
  24. Boy, did we ever choose the wrong time to start a darkness team...
  25. The window position thing is a known issue.

If by "screen settings", you mean resolution, I think that one's new. As far as I know, the window positions are stored server-side, and your resolution is stored locally, so they ought to be unconnected.
