  6. It's a really nice idea, and I can tell it's got wishful thinking and lots of good intentions, but tell me something; what happens the first time someone of severe racial prejudice logs on and sets their custom music to his own mantra of 'I HATE N WORDS!' Let's say that sentence was modified to be a bit more offensive, like including said 'n word'. Let's replace it with 'I HATE KITES'... While I love kites and feel everyone is entitled to their opinion, a T becomes a K, and I'm not too happy to see someone insulting my ethnicity.

  8. I really wouldn't mind a graphical update. After... What? 3-4 years without upgrading the requirements of a game, since CoV (and that's being VERY modest, considering it's closer to 5+, since CoV didn't do too much to warrant an upgrade, if any) the game could REALLY use it.

Just crack down on the things that players have been asking about; fingers, smoother graphics, more options, etc.

With all due respect, Fleet, this game doesn't have too much thematic sense... I mean, when you defeat Hro'Dorks, and then Honoree, you actually SPAWN a Rikti invasion... How does that work?

Because a lot of things revolving around 'creativity' are redundant, useless, and/or nigh impossible to code?

    Crafting

    Short answer: No.

Long answer: Man falling off a cliff: NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooo.... *splat*

Elaboration: We have a working 'crafting' system in place for any IO that's working. Your suggestion sounds like you meant to post this in Champions Online forums, considering we don't have 'Primary' and 'Secondary' IOs, we just have IOs, and I'd like to keep it that way.

Further Elaboration: And why, you ask? Because we've already got Origins, which are enough for me to work with. If they were to make origin-specific crafting things, it would not only force people to roll the origin they want just for those perks, but more often than not, it simply wouldn't fit the concept of the origin they chose.

The Rularuu weapons were a triumph of weapon customization, and the devs were wonderful to add all of them into the game.

However, that doesn't change the fact that I'd like some real HORROR-themed weapons... A bloody, rusted mallet; a jagged, rusted-over, bronze axed, a broadsword that's been cracked, or something that looks like it could split in two and have large teeth.

But maybe I'm just crazy, imagining these things.

Sure, that happens to an extent even now, but at least what powerset you pick, you stick with it through thick and through thin. That, and the developers (I think it was Castle) were very clear on why there was a timer on switching alternate builds and why that was not going to change. This is a much more minor variant, but I still don't see it happening with that kind of on-the-fly utility.
In my defense, Sam, my weapons wouldn't be just switch-on-the-fly sort of things. >_>

    Just sayin'.

I don't really have an argument why the idea itself is wrong.
Well, thanks, Sam. I'd really like to keep things balanced out for the best... Not only with making sure that something doesn't do an unstoppable amount of cold damage, but also it isn't completely negligible.

Whether that's important enough to hold back a more customizable system (and indeed, if more customization in this respect is merited) isn't an argument I feel confident enough to to discuss, however.
I really should've put more emphasis on this in my original post; the weapons WOULD take on the characteristics of the element, rather than the default -Def, etc.
    Fire: Additional DoT damage
    Cold: Slow
Electric: -End, possible sleep or End leech.
    Darkness: -Acc
Radiation: ... -Attack? I don't know what radiation works with.

To be honest? I don't know. I suppose that over time, the devs could expand things to melee, like Super Strength and Martial Arts, but it could also include powers for the Assault Rifle... Fire/Ice/Elec bullets?

Okay, I know you're new here, and weren't around for the original incident, but the very reason that Suggestions and Ideas is in For Fun now, instead of Development, is a story of two posters. Let's call one of them.... lkamen. And the other..... NWNGirl.

NWNGirl had a habit of posting suggestions and stating how simple they would be based on the fact that she had coded a few things in Neverwinter Nights, because all game code is, apparently the same. lkamen would infuriate her (and many others who posted outlandish suggestions that had a snowball's chance in hell of making it in the game, like permanent quadruple XP) by posting simply "no". Exacerbating the problem, NWNGirl would click the "report" button on any post that disagreed with her suggestions, no matter how politely, tersely or impolitely they were worded. Eventually, it all came to a head with bannings of the worst offenders in these, including those who would over-report, by reporting non-rule-breaking threads simply because they had a different opinion on the suggestion. The Community Reps and Devs decided that the S&I forum needed to be somewhere "less serious" than the development section, and so moved it to For Fun, in the hopes that people would not take themselves as seriously, and not see every Suggestion posted as holy mana provided from on high, but rather give them the feedback they need to become good suggestions. Or even explain why a suggestion just isn't good.
That was by ArcticFahx, I think.

And as for the giant costume request thread? Do you think it became 550+ pages overnight? JLove is renowned for actually reading new posts that make it his way.

Step 1) Make those various weapon skins available for those weapons. Fire Broadsword/Katana/Dual Blades/Claws both as pure elemental type and a aura version.

Step 2) Create Common Easy to get, +Non Smashing/Lethal DAMAGE IO's.

They wouldn't be linked to any sets.

    They would give a 100% chance for +10 damage of a Non Smashing/Lethal type (Fire/Cold/Energy/Negative Energy/Toxic/Psi)

These IO's can be put into any ranged/melee attack power.

They would cause a graphical effect that is associated with the IO. Hit with the attack that has a Fire Damage IO in it, you will see flames hit the target for instance.

At only doing 10 damage, while they would be constant, the normal procs would net better DPS.

I just use 10 as a nice round number btw. Maybe 5? I'm sure some dmg powr would make out like a bandit at always +10 Damage to the attack to screw it up.

This new IO would then be useable by all ATs. This is why I say make it common, and not tied to a set. And thus all ATs can customize themselves even more.

You make it common, so you don't see them going for millions. Instead they go for a few thousand, as everyone will tend to get some sort of +DMG IO, they can trade off for the one they want.
Honestly, Brand, I'm really sick of the community relying on IOs to give the next cool effect. Sure, we can use a few more sets; but where they matter.

And yes, to EVERYONE against the idea; I would like to PROPERLY balance things. In hindsight of posting, I don't think that a weapon should be doing 50% Cold damage, 50% Dark, etc.

I do, however, feels that it fills the thematic gap. Yes, you can easily say that it's just for people whose combat log is part of their concept, but I tend to disagree. I'm sure Thor would feel just silly if his mighty Hammer didn't clobber people and then zap 'em with lightning.

The point I'm trying to make is that being able to sort of 'tint' a powerset to your liking is the next step in customization. Would it take a ton of work? Probably, yes. I'll admit, this would be one helluva project. Would it be worth it? I can't really tell you yes or no. I'd like to see it happen, but I know not everyone shares this.

Sooner or later, they'll get the power pools with some power customization.

You grab fly, you pick then...Hoverbike, Fly Pose 1, Fly Pose 2, Slab of Rock, Fly in Hover Position, Hover Disk, ect, ect.

They could then do all the same for Hover.

That seems the way to go imo.
But then what happens to powers? When you attack? When you ARE attacked? How does it turn? Does it strafe/move left and right? Is it faster than flight? Slower than flight? What happens indoors? What happens when you interact with stuff? Does it just disappear?

All of these things pose a serious problem to vehicles as a whole; why do they just 'disappear'? And if they don't, then how do you mount/dismount them once you're done? Do they follow you, or appear from nowhere? i could obviously pull the same argument with weapons, but I'm gonna let it slide for now.

Power customization is something that all of the community wants/wanted. There are few not utilizing the new, revolutionizing feature.

Clones? There are a few diehard Ills out there, but for the most part, the idea reaches a level of 'meh', not even including using it as a defense; which would have a snowball's chance in hell of happening.
  21. I really wouldn't be surprised if the devs didn't do anything this Halloween that they didn't do last year; Unseelie Court, Jack/Eochai, Trick-or-Treating.

They just seem so very eager to get the next Issue and Going Rogue out so very quickly that they're not bothering with seasonal content like holiday events.

    But that's just my theory.
  22. Giving veterans priority on names...? How...?

"Alright, Timmy, you can create Wraith, provided that no one who's played for more than 4 years makes one before you."
    "But I just made it."
"Well, we're gonna keep it inactive for a few days... Just to give the vets some time."
    "..."

Honestly, I was enthralled by how Champions did things to an extent; using global names to attach a lot of tells and emails. The only thing missing was a default [Charname] that would cut off the lengthy bits in /tells.

For instance: I make Wraith, and 3 of my buddies make Wraith.

We team with Joe the Plumber, who makes MY Wraith his primary 'Wraith', so whenever he wants to send an email, he just types 'wraith', but for the other three, he needs to type in the server name.

    Hmm...

I think 'enthralled' might've been a strong word for my feelings. I'd rather say it was liberating to use any name I pleased for any reason. It was FUN to know I could make a character named 'Heretic' just because i wanted to, and it wouldn't be taken.

If they developed a system to work around it while still giving us more freedom with names? Sure. Lovely.
  23. /no to clones.

Haven't the devs already listed clones as one of their 'Stop asking us to kick ourselves in the crotch' topics?
