They expanded the parameters for their suggested videocard driver numbers, invalidating several players' ability to login at all in the process. I pm'd a redname in the middle of the night about the issue, and forwarded them to this thread if you wanna copy/paste your issue into there for consolidation of the problem. A nice bug report thread with tons of pages gets the issue more acknowledgement than a ton of threads about it I'm guessing
.
I call their personal issues with our drivers more of CoHs famous "play the way we want you to play or leave". CoH graphics haven't had an overhaul since i17, somebody just decided to nuke a few players for no reason by adding to the list of incompatible/outdated drivers apparently. How nice of them. /sarcasm -
It's just the person in the thread below him's signature banner. Apparently it's hosted on an unsafe site. But I'm pretty sure it's harmless to forumgoers, unless you click his signature link and go wandering around that site.
-
Quote:Shh no they didn't, it was still possible in bases. I'll have to look again. They removed this a while ago because accessing the auction house on an instanced map (a mission or a base) caused a massive increase in server load.
Quote:Ok so an issue with a bunch of bugs and incarnate stuff......so when is the next issue coming out that does not have incarnate crap in it?
Quote:ever since this game became free to play ive become more and more angry at it. w/e its obv that the stipend you give to players is backfiring b/c really all you want now is more and more money from us. fine, start releasing bug fix compilation on the market for paragon points. i give up! ill pay for the damn thing now.
lolVIP. The "hybrid" model since it launched has seemed to be "VIPs go sit in the corner and be quiet we already have your money. Stay out of the way while we try to impress the noobs into becoming VIPs so they can join you in the corner and we work on the next round." Since this model launched all of these disaster-patches have hit because they were rushing something out the door to bring them back into the MMO spotlight for a sec with new content to reel in a couple more free players before a new competing MMO launches and they grab those players instead. Dumming down of trials(which I did like seeing) was done because new players(the minors likely) are unwilling to learn strategy and couldn't handle the challenge before. And of course bugs being rushed live, and more on live being backburnered while they continue creating small(albeit sometimes incredibly cool) items to drop into the Market to get a few extra bucks off everybody. Cuz ya know; bug fixes get a smile, Market trinkets get money. So to hell with the fixes.
Edit: Freedom's launch is reminding me of the AE Launch. CoH has such a spotlight on them all that matters is public image from the outside, it doesn't matter if actual players get new bugs, from the outside it's new "content". Like the incredi-fail where anyone who said something bad about AE in 2009 had their thread/post deleted, because AE was an innovation we overhyped, and we couldn't have the competitors lol'ing at us as it backfired and caused the Devs more longterm(still ongoing) trouble than it's intended purpose could have ever been worth.(I actually tried to make a semi-honest AE mission this week. Couldn't use the flame emblem unlocked on my account from Empyrean Michael, no other incarnate unlocks either. Those were what? June? C'mon, no binary aura on custom NPCs in a virtual reality setting that's a crime. And no powercustomization(colors) for the customs either. If you want people to use it properly give it features capable of more than crude farm XP.)
Edit2: And the reason the "hybrid business model" is scaring away VIPs so fast is mostly because "hybrid" means more money opportunities, giving the business suits more input on the game's development. Yesterday's publish which was clearly released due to a gun in our Lead Dev's face is proof of what happens when you let the business managers anywhere near the people who actually sculpt the game. Coh was better off flatrate with those guys hogtied in a corner leaving Paragon Studios free to do their job unobstructed. -
Wow, with me being into digital art/3d graphics this thread was cool to stumble across
.
Here are a couple things I've considered PMing Tunnel Rat about but decided it wasn't worth spamming her inbox for;
White/Black in power/aura customization; will we ever see the top row of the color palette be able to adjust colors 100% independent of opacity(ie:Click black on an aura and not have it disappear with the 5~% opacity instead of pure color black)?
Pathing Auras/General Auras; will we ever have the option to set a path aura in addition to a standard aura(in the same costume slot)? A lot of the pathing auras are appealing(I love the nice added touches for landing from jumps), but losing a character's signature like an eye effect or halo detracts from the usability. So far every(it's 2 or 3 now, wait nope 4 as of earlier this week) character I have utilizing a pathing aura has a separate, identical, costume with a "standing still"/costume presentation/combat aura replacing the pathing.
I also have loved the idea of possibilites made available if instead of things like "BioPlasma - Hair&Fists" we could mix and match pieces(full body eliminated) from 2 different sets. Like Glowing Aura-Head and Tarot Cards-Fist, etc. Of course the reason for 1 and only 1 aura per costume is to limit bandwith/framerate used/hindered per character, but I don't see(it may be there) the potential lag difference between my 2 previous examples, it's the same 2 areas, spaced out and not stacked right? I know it's also more a UI suggestion than FX but hey there it is
I also like the little shimmer the rainbow pathing aura gives off while standing still, and have wished a couple different times now that effect was available without the intense path.
While I'm here another highfive to the FX department for the alternate CCE in flight effects I noticed sometime in the past couple months (ninjajump got my attention). I didn't like the "footstomp" idea of PressureRelease, and hadn't bought the Steampunk pack. I bought the CCE with some of my first paragon points and hit it in flight and omg-that's-amazing-new-favorite-CCE-on-90%-of-toons lol
. I think of it more as a harsher smokescreen(kinda thinking like stage-performing illusionist) than steam.
PS I also saw the Autumnal pathing aura in the store and a demo of it on youtube, and my first thought was also "wow that's a cool one, blossoming flowers would be a nice option too", so +1 to that suggestion that already got some redname attention.
Oh and also thanks for the Bats (Combat) Aura. Me and my friend both purchased and applied it, and we both had the combat wish and it was in patchnotes before I got around to suggesting it haha
.
Edit: Oh hey look! Digging through the Dev Digest tonight I see someone posted the mix&match aura idea 2 weeks ago lol. I didn't see if it was cross-posted over to this thread as Noble Savage suggested to the guy, but;
Quote:i don't know if this has ever been mentioned, I know it's possible with the new tech they've been adding into the game, but what are the possibilities of having aura's on weapons? Melee weapons to be exact, adding an electric, fire or any of the current auras too 1 or 2 handed weapons. Just adding another aura section would be great for when you select your weapon, would fit right into the weapon selection part. Another idea is is having two aura's instead of just one, mixing two aura's on a character instead of just one? Any chance we might be able to implement that into the game? I think many players would get a huge kick out of that. I would haha. -
lol. Tex; the redname who encourages people to break their PCs by updating perfectly good drivers, "has chosen not to receive private messages". Brilliant. *picks another dev to pm*
-
I am not locked out, but I have red text on the loginscreen(and my login screen is custom art I spent a long time on, the text is abnormally aggrevating me
), and an extra popup the first time I patched today(not repeating on future gamelaunches so far, time will tell for future patches retripping it).
We could play fine yesterday.
The game graphics haven't been upgraded.
We should be able to play unobstructed today as well.
It's not like upgraded drivers actually DO anything(please don't start a rant on how helpful they are, people have tried unsuccessfully to convince me in previous threads).
IMO if your graphicscard runs coh when you buy the pc/install the new card trying to upgrade drivers only stands to harm your gaming quality, AND your computer's graphics as a whole.
Being bullied into upgrading my drivers in this forum caused permanent damage to my laptop, and spent hours to roll back, and to this day every time my pc is restarted a folder opens when I login pointing to an empty "C:\program files\ati". Yeah. "upgraded" drivers are great.
I pm'd Zwillinger about this issue, but he's never responded to anything I PMd him requesting assistance with. I also had not known it was this severe for another chunk of people. Time to PM Tex I guess, it doesn't take a rocketscientist to know this was all him
.
Sorry if I seem aggrevated, today's patch has shown nothing but poor taste from NCSoft, and finely displayed the damage done when a production manager rushes a devteam to shove a patch out the door. -
Quote:It was probably those changes to the base editor that broke the defensive items[...]
8. New tool for base building that's great, why give it to use when it's broken though?
[...].
Quote:Create a new room type so they only work in that room... a lot of people will be happy!
Quote:Also more of a wishlist request, could you also reconsider putting back the ability to put items in doorways.
I know it was redacted during i13 beta because of the problems that occurred when placing functional items outside of the room they're meant to be confined in. But could you just put it back with an additional check to only allow "decorative" items to be placed outside its designated room.
Oh and DEs becoming as difficult to destroy as the planet as a whole? Who let the noob tinker with all the NPC rank classifications(Devoire) and spawn limitations? -
Quote:This actually happened to someone on my server earlier this week. So that's One bad thing that happened today that likely wasn't a result of what I will now always refer to as the disaster-patchAnother odd bug: I had a character suddenly lose any kind of access to the global server. He couldn't get global names or receive global tells or messages from global channels. However, others could see the messages he was sending and could send him local tells in response.
I relogged and suddenly got a load of queued global tells from people telling me that it showed I was 'offline'.
Mind you, this happened in the middle of a conversation with no changes to my settings..
Quote:I'm not saying everythings peachy keen, because there's certainly some serious issues, however it's not quite Rollback severity.
The word Rollback has very, very serious implications when you're talking about a live product.Quote:If you guys had done a rollback during the first few hours of the new release, there wouldn't have been very much customer progression or items/loot dropped. I'm assuming it went live at the usual Thursday maintenance time, which means that most of the US playerbase was at school, work, or whatever.
And besides, we were all too busy fixing our UI's when we logged in to actually go arrest anything, get expees and/or drops.), saw this thread, and haven't logged in. I saw the mess the UI bug made on beta....that's why we all reported it....weeks ago on beta. It doesn't even just shuffle your current stuff around, it opens and closes windows etc. Lots of people have stated they aren't logging in until bug x is fixed, I doubt there'd be an uproar over a possible rollback.
I'm up for one, this patch was nothing short of a disaster. And it's not even like the showstopping bugs were a surprise that popped up when the build was migrated to Live, they've been on beta for a month and reported and you guys(Devs in general not Zwill lol) just moved them to live anyway. And honestly it's not like the publish came with a bunch of great content we'd be losing for a few days from the rollback(zones, trials, new incarnate power types(not branches)), I'm sure nobody would cry about the AE stealthNerf being rolled back for the weekend
Lol.
Edit: My point was all of these bugs were reported, people wouldn't be asking for a rollback if these bugs weren't knowingly migrated to live on purpose in the first place. I can't think of any new content that isn't broken that was important enough to push live today and drag all the bugs with it....unless the devs are gonna blame it all on wanting the ambushes fixed nao, but did MARTy really have tell them about that for them to realize it was being used? Ambushes have been being (ab)used for years.... -
Sorry about the barrier example, I wasn't aware the nerf was targeted to insps, I only knew about the ambush ****.
Quote:Ymean it already isn't on your serverI have a feeling AE is going to be largely ignored if things keep going at this rate, at some point in the future.? Since they started tearing down AE and curbing it's XP and this and that and the other thing only farmers are persistent enough to actually press on and adapt, most people who wanted to tell a story with AE that I heard of gave up on it years ago.
When they were hyping AE they were saying they were the first to allow players to create missions, I guess all that hype is what kept from them admitting it was a complete disaster and just yanking AE out altogether. It'd have at least given them time to stop staring at things like MARTy and trying to hunt out way to repeatedly nerf it if they had just hit the delete key over it back when it launched and failed, and actually focus on something that made the players happy instead of finding little tweaks to upset them every couple releases. -
Zwill someone in Player Help noticed it this afternoon, in the form of his KB setbonus appearing to be lacking; http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=277836

Quote:I luckily have 2 50s that survived the betaserver wipe from earlier this year. I did try and copy someone else over and was aggravated I couldn't, but I hadn't thought of it as a reason for lack of beta testers. But yes, that's definitely a reason. I know I personally don't level anything on Test or Beta. I know I'm not personally interested in leveling in an environment where transfers are one way, and the server is subject to wipe at any given time, and if I fall in love with the toon I'll be starting it over from lv1 on live. The lack of a working copy tool dissuaded me from testing this beta at all. I know there were things I could have tested on brand new characters, but it wasn't the stuff I was interested in testing. So I didn't test anything.
That the copy tool has been down for as long as it has been is pretty ridiculous. Maybe, just maybe the backlash against how shoddy this push was will help convince them to fix it so more people can/will test. -
Quote:I'm looking at the numerous bugs that go through on this patch:
- The infantile KB
- Mace Mastery mace still malfunctioning
- UIs being reset
- Bases going all "Skynet" on their owners
For what it is worth, I am still excited about many of the changes, just wish so many bugs hadn't come with 'em :/Quote:Was there some change to the graphics sys requirements? I noticed that in the last Beta update, I was getting notification from the client that my graphics driver might be out of date (but not on live -until this update became applied to the live servers).. My PC is from 2007, yes it's a piece of crap with old drivers. No I don't need to be reminded 3 different ways everytime I try to open the *********** game
. And encouraging uneducated people to tinker with drivers and ruin their PCs for non-noticeable improvements is poor taste. Also the change to the the badges tab. Last I saw on beta the Collect button just launched a devcreated PopMenu. Players can make those(hell I've made some of those)......the old one looked more professional.
Quote:who is running the show now over there devs? i mean really i dont think any of us players woulda wanted this ninja issue 21.5 release if it meant all these bugs came with them. srsly who is making the call to release this poop of an issue? why not just take your time and do things right? you know there is a saying if you do it right you only have to do things once. w/e thankfully ur game is free 2 play and I will be spending my money on other games thix xmas.
Lead Dev: "21.5 isn't ready yet. We are NOT putting TPN live this week."
Producer: "Ok. Pull TPN, put it live. This week. What? You only patch on tuesdays and it's wednesday? ugh fine. Do it tomorrow. Oh all the other bugs you didn't fix yet will end up live too? Work faster on the next beta."
Yes, CoH has taught me that is how producers of MMOs work.
Quote:Good to know Zwill, thanks for keeping us updated.
My guess: this was an unexpected bug, one of which they were not previously aware, but easily fixable. Thus, the "upcoming build" (probably coming early next week) will have this and anything else they are able to fix in the mean time.
Quote:Thanks for the info Zwill, but if it was already addressed in an upcoming build, why push this build live? This bug effects a majority of players (F2P, Premium, & VIP), if not all of them (AFIAK). Seems like a bad decision to push this patch out, even with the new Incarnate abilities (that only VIP players can access).
Quote:We made the decision to pull the new Trial from this build. The feedback and testing we received during the beta was pretty clear that we needed to make some adjustments to TPN before it went live. This could not be accomplished in time to meet the publish schedule.
Not to worry, your wait shouldn't be terribly long for the new TPN trial.
Now look at the mess you made suits, this is what happens when you rush them.
lol. -
According to feedback in the patch thread for today here http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...=277823&page=3
All forms of knockback are currently bugged. It's the issue 21.5 of nerfs, nerfs, bugs, poor UI changes, and more bugs lol. -
Quote:Good. Maybe then they'll stop ignoring it and do something about itOh trust me - it's getting bugged.
Every. Single. Time. It happens..
The past year or so they've had to have devs login to beta to get people to install it and actually do the betatesting.....ignoring game-breaking bugs like this that have been /bugged since the first day of closed beta and then PUSHING THEM LIVE is not the way to make betatesters feel important.

Quote:Yup it sucks. But it was done to prevent 50s from hitting Barrier before zoning into an exemping arc, etc. Like how MM pets die when zoning/starting TF whatever, to prevent them from becoming "overpowered"Just tested this. Picked a mission, took three different insps (red/yellow/purple.) Entered mission. All of them were gone from the buff bar.
Went out, took another purple, had the combat attributes window open. As soon as I entered the mission - gone.
To be thorough, grabbed a newspaper mission, did the same thing and the buff stayed.
BOOOOOO devs. /thumbsdown to stealth nerfs. You have just hurt people playing legitimate missions - AGAIN. If I know I've got a big fight - like, say, I've just come back from the hospital after getting stomped on - you've just removed my ability to buff up ahead of time and still have a full insp tray..
It's a superhero game, there should be no such thing as "overpowered" -
Quote:/This.So the new IO sets are 450 at 50% off? At half price they're about twice as much as the maximum I'd consider paying.
I might spent $5-$10 of points for a single set of purples or PVPs when they come out(Yes, when).
I understand these are guineapig models to test the pricing and actual revenue from the items(time to see how many who cried for it will actually pay for it now that it's here)......but how come everytime Paragon tests something the test-dummy items are subpar? It offsets the point of the test, because they're below-standard items. If you wanna see how well rares will sell at their current price, list the LotG or Numina set with their procs. THAT will give you a good idea of how well rares will do. But things like that lv20 melee set I hadn't even remembered hearing of before, or the mako's that go for like 5mil as recipes at lv50? lol. Of course the numbers sold will be pathetic.

Quote:Yup this changed a few issues ago. 19ish maybe? You can now change it as often as you like, once you've unlocked them(15 for the first column, 25 for the second). I took my main PG from hero to villain and watched his title get stripped when the morality mission was completed, but going to an Arbiter(trainer) allowed me to set a villain title. You might want to petition your instance, because you should now be able to change your title to a Hero one.Last I checked, you can't just change them whenever you feel like it. You're only given the opportunity at certain levels and you can change it an unlimited number of times once you hit 50.
It was a while ago that I actually bothered with a title so this may have changed since then. -
Thanks for the update Rugiel
. And heads up the Halloween Event launched today has 3 new badges
.
-
Quote:They changed the name/location of the loginscreen file during beta. If you reconvert your image it should implement fine on liveDitto. I had one working fine in Beta, but when it went live and I copied over my beta folder to live, it dinnae work.
.
And OMG Henri! That one you did of your character is stunning. Was that done in a 3D designing environment? -
Quote:If you haven't used it since i7, but did use it back then it's important if you haven't heard, to hear that it was changedHmm can you explain this? The first tick requires an accuracy check?
Edit: Hmm I haven't used it since issue 7, it now has a big damage front loaded attack? What is the new damage? The in game description just says it does 13 ticks.... The Mag50 Afraid has been removed, the enemies will now stand in the patch and Burn to death properly
. Since they no longer run immediately, that means it's damage is much more effective because they won't be leaving it's range. (Unlike Bonfire, where it's damage(without mez control) is irrelevant because they dont stand there for the duration).
Also
Does that imply that the patch/rain/toggle chance-to-fire timer for procs is 10seconds? I've been using a lot of procs on a recent toon and I can't remember(Chance for +Rech going into Hurricane for example). -
Quote:I knew this was the reason. For all the people who screamed "I have X characters and I don't want to play with noobs/kids/X I shouldn't have to pay more to get away from it because you changed the game".I'm a little surprised that no one thinks that this was given to VIPs because of the Exalted server. When that was announced, there was a lot of hue and cry about wanting free transfers to the Exalted server. I think that Paragon decided that this was a way to give VIPs a way to transfer their characters over to Exalted (albeit slowly), while selling more transfer tokens to the impatient ones (~99%).
I also realized another reason the devs want people on Exalted; Dropping Sub. If you move all your alts to exalted then decide you want to drop VIP you'd have to move your characters to a different server and lose your SG/Friends/etc all over again, "locking" you into staying VIP once you've labeled Exhaled homeebil Freedom Marketeers
.
-
Quote:Yes I believe she does. The SG access is a reward for filling a tier of the table. Even though she has enough to do it I think the system requires she actually allocate them and fill the tier to gain the benefits.i am inviting her from my vip account. i called her and asked her to buy $5 worth of points to get sg access and she said that she did subscribe for a few months years ago. does she have to allocate her reward tokens to gain sg access? as she hasnt done so that might be the issue.
-
Quote:This! Or a character slotThat being said I think the devs would have done better by giving us a window where we could select a free respec, server transfer, or name change token depending on what we needed that month
. I actually came to the forum to suggest that window today, and here it is. They're the same value in points, same general amount of uselessness to certain people, etc.
-
In i21 beta I heard people using Beam Rifle having an issue with costumes not changing if a certain model was selected or something, weapons may be a factor on live now. The lock symbol probably has to do with the purchasable costume slots, and the market system improperly flagging which you do and don't have access to, but that's just my guess.
-
It should be possible, with the same method as the login screen. I actually realized I have the skyblue, villainred and praetorian gold versions, and trying to replace the current red one with the skyblue was going to be my next project. I'm not sure how it will look though, the costume category buttons, and rotational/previous/next buttons will all be the same(unless those are replaced manually too).
