  1. While there could be a financial attractiveness to sell base stuff on the market, I kind of feel that maybe won't sit well with people. After all, you have to be premium to even join an SG, and be a VIP to own one yourself. They money they get from your subscription should be enough but still...

If anything, giving Bases a 'revamp makeover reimagined update' would have merit by encouraging people to go VIP because "WOW! The bases look and function fantastic now, I want to get into that action!" If you make your pay-for features really great, they can sometimes sell themselves.
  2. I noticed this watching the trailer again and someone in the youtube comments did too, but Rose Star (female in tights) was wearing some kind of golden infinite-symbol shaped pendant, Ouroboros perhaps?

I think it would be great if one issue's new non-incarnate story content could go towards bringing these characters into the game and showing off some of their powers in missions. We all know Mirror Spirit exists as an NPC into Faultline but I've never seen her use her powers before in game.

Spark Blade might be the hardest to port due to the nature of his powers, though it might be on par with the way they're doing Sorceress Serene and her Ice/Fire blade powers a la Warwitch. Which would be fitting because I remember she was a Blue Kings' comic character who got into the game proper, followed by Apex with his own taskforce many game issues later!

Wouldn't it be great to acknowledge the 'forgotten' heroes of the City of Hero game by bringing them back to the better-than-ever CoH: Freedom?
  3. The way I know how phasing works is kind of like this:

Atlas Park is now an extreme version of the way that zones are often in different time periods to one another, which is referenced by the level brackets (5-9, 10-14, 15-19...etc). This extreme version of time barrier divides certain areas of Atlas park to the version the team-leader is at the present time. If they hadn't defeated all the hellions yet, there will be hellions (to pay), but if they did, it's now covered by PPD.

So why do people phase out?

If you are standing in phase zone A and your partner runs into phase zone B, you're technically in two different periods of time, even if that's not the case, if you want to understand you'll have to take my word for it now. In the pictures you showed before, the first picture was you right at the edge of a time barrier, when you cross the barrier without your partner, whoosh. You're in a different time now.

Looks like the ChronoPsychoMetron is back, screwing with peoples' heads.

Another way to think about is that it's not really different periods of time but different parallel universes with identical architecture. Except one has hellions running amuck and another, the PPD have a secure presence. The difference is whether a hero such as yourself ever bothered to clear out those hellions or not.

It's times like these that I'm glad I understand the complexities of time and space.

    Pieces of Win

I totally agree on the costume parts, auras, emotes and capes you can't get at Lv1. I can understand the actual incarnate/celestial costume parts being locked since they're stuck at Lv50 only. But essentially everything they've allowed free unlocks per character should be available account-wide on purchase much like the Vanguard pack.

You could even make bundles with some extra parts to fill in the slow days when you don't have a big powerset to push out or on slow weeks. Consider the Roman costume pieces from the ITF, and also some of the unique pieces that some Cimeoran NPCs/citizens get (criss-cross leather arm bands, roman sandals, shield-as-back-piece) and then create a Roman/Cimeora costume bundle, that would be pretty sweet. Getting stuff we've been waiting 35 levels and taskforce right from the start with some thematic extras!

Oh, and holiday costume pieces. While it may suck to have to go through taskforces to complete a character's look normally, but when you have to wait three quarters of a year for a taskforce or special mission to be accessable, it can be quite damning. While I'm not a fan of 'limited time' items I would understand if the holiday pieces were done this way, account-wide unlock and with some new thematic costumes (Much like our more recent vampire, fish-guy, think-tank, medusa Halloween set).

The premiums and VIPs can buy permenantly unlocked versions of so many costume pieces, and if you don't or can't pay for them, there's the free version we've had for years now, per character and behind content you must earn your way through.

You also have to consider when a new player enters the game, they might be more surprised when they see just how many different concepts you could build just by having all the previously locked pieces in view, granted they'll have to spend money to obtain them now but it's still cool when you can really see HOW MUCH City of Heroes has to offer in terms of cosmetic customisation. $5 for 400 points is enough to buy enough premium costume pieces for one initial character concept, four-five parts?
  5. I've been there, buying the wrong origin enhancement, rgh.

    Kick...ouch

I think that kind of distortion only occurs within one or two frames of the attack itself, which otherwise is not /too/ noticeable during a non-cakewalk fight.

The only thing I'd wish [Kick] got changed would be the trailing uninterruptable animation of putting your leg down after the attack, it feels like it could use a bit of interruptible animation period like [Jump Kick] was given after so many years of being trapped getting yourself steady after the flip.

It bugged me that your foot not only had to touch ground but you needed half a second contact before you could take your next action, doesn't flow too well and I take kick because it adds variety to my character's attacks, if they're melee.

Also, if you're on a iTrial, replace 'costume' with 'scriptui'

Good advice, though it would be nice if Paragon Studios made this command default from character creation to save us the trouble, even for the less command savvy players.

    LFT Channel

I would agree to this arrangement as well, it only makes sense. If you don't want to look for any teams yourself you can simply remove the channel from your window and then Help can be freed up for helpful discussions and questions.
  9. I remember linking Zwillinger to a discussion explaining the competition's inplementation of such an idea (small point rewards from reaching achievement milestones in game).

Apparently it was forwarded to the appropiate people, I'm hoping it'll pop up as an additional business pull.

Maybe gaining big badges for the first time, like ones rewarded by taskforces. One handful of points per badge per account. Gaining same badges on another character, or deleting all your characters and regaining them again won't gain more points.
  10. They seem to have the tech to dress your character up as an existing NPC in some disguise missions in the new early story arcs. Granted you couldn't use your powers but it's interesting to say the least. You could have missions where you are playing the signature heroes or villains that don't level but may drop ticket rewards and possibly inf.

Or be able to design a custom character that the player can assume. I'd love to be able to make a Galaxy Girl story arc retelling her life with the player playing as Galaxy Girl!

  11. Would be nice to give my troll the ability to keep his horns and wear shades, though he's also wearing facial hair so in order to have all three he'd need to have three details much like some helmets...
  12. Oh this is wonderful news, and I'm being incredibly non-sarcastic about this. I will be sure to spread the news about /r. I'll send tells and at the end write (To reply, type /r <message)", should be much more simple in syntax than t/ name(COMMA) message.

Not sure why the backspace button just automatically uses /t when you could just /r and do the same thing. Or maybe it's for when you've got two people sending you tells and you don't want a mistell because someone else messaged you before pressing send.

So there we have it, free players can reply to tells after all and it didn't cost the devs any work time to do it. It would've been nice if you could send tells to server and global friends but eh, I can deal for now.
  13. The down from below trial is a bit disconcerting with the power-levelling, for vets it's a nice way to skip to the levels they desire but if new players are going to play it over and over without trying anything else, we get dfbabies, and the case in point was already mentioned earlier, if you don't know how the powers function you're going to struggle so much later on in the game.

Trials needs diminishing returns for sure. At least four runs of full rewards to collect all the hydra chemicals then quickly shaving chunks of rewards until all you could possibly get is maybe SO drops or just plain inf and no experience.

The original sewers were just so people could quickly fight their way up to Lv10 when the proper story arcs begin, being able to go to Lv50 on it is just taking the p***.
  14. If I remember correctly, Common IOs have their rate of progression softcapped around Lv25 (where Lv30 and beyond only increase slightly more than the later interval). So Lv25-30 does sound like the best option if you wish to SSK down, and by nature, would still give you greater overall effectiveness than slotting one-aspect SO/Common IOs per slot at least.

A lot of advantages come from being a high level and SSKing down that don't necessarily disappear: The amount of inspirations and the chances of dropping medium inspirations vs. small ones; vast array of enhancement slots means you can have more aspects enhanced even if they're lowered due to SSK; being able to use one to two powers above the original level, giving you an advantage if you picked a useful one.
  15. The problem here is that the normal mapped faces are far too specular, as in, shiny. Faces are not normally very shiny at all, and giving it even the slightest bit of shine can make it seem like it's been oiled up or reflective in some way.

Normal skin is not very shiny, it only gets shiny when wet and as we know, this game doesn't support any effects like looking damp when treading puddles or swimming in bodies of water.

If Normal-mapping is to be used again and made to look right, it must not make skin-like textures appear shiny; only subtle, barely-visible shine will pass.

That's how I see it anyway.
  16. In before Amerrikat!

I also support the Dinosaur and Ape Player-Character concepts, comicbook traditions yeah!

I agree, in DDO the problem I had was that even with maximum output volume and turning my microphone boost on, it was still hit and miss to whether anybody could hear me. I never had problems with third-party software and my microphone is good quality and in working order. In-game VoIP only works if the controls for it aren't slapdash.
  18. I've noticed new people on Victory myself, however 9 out of 10 times I try to speak to a free player they always blank me, or in the case of two different players, one was a mute who ignored everything I said (after blind-inviting me) and then another actually had the respect to talk a bit.

Seemed like the only willing participants happened to be returning premiums.

Helping new people is harrrd :<
  19. A feature (or features) of this nature will require new tech. The ability to select and highlight boundaries on existing city and hazard zone maps and then the ability to set your own spawn points for the mission in question.

The devs haven't a good track record for polishing the old shinies of the past, but with this new model bringing in revenue, they could possibly add this functionality if AE got a update-sweep in a future issue release.

I'm still hoping they'll update the day jobs with more reasonable day-job bonuses!
  20. Assuming you could make instances on the fly based around zones with a field of selection, we'd also need the ability to set our own spawn points for objects to make it work, as maps are generally pre-set with their own spawn points and giving players the power to set their own points could lead to another round of exploits (then again, AE's an exploit magnet, I think it's annoying to limit ourselves because of bad eggs)

Would be fantastic to do that though, some far away sections of rarely populated zones could feel like completely new maps to some people
  21. Point twisted.

Costume pieces are entirely cosmetic but defines characters quite well, any chance to have to only earn them once for future character concepts is a big plus. Whether it's an account-unlock after achieving something in-game (like Incarnate stuff does) or by a single point purchase like you can do with the Vanguard costume pieces.

Story content, enhancements and such are not cosmetic, they give you funds and increase your power. Plus there's no balance concern with costume pieces like there is with story content and enhancements.
  22. When I hear the word 'mob' or 'mobs' in regards to enemy spawns. I consider a mob to be one spawn of enemies while mobs to be a number of enemy spawns. After all, even the gangsters in real life were just called 'the mob', pluralising that must be as weird as some people think calling an enemy a mob would be here.

As for the example regarding spells, while powers is the correct term, it's entirely possible the person in question is just really into character accuracy and the character in question was magic origin! Portraying fire blast or ice blast as fire or ice spells does sound pretty thematic outside game mechanics.
  23. Yeah, I'd have to say enforcing the correct terminology yourself seems to be the best and most polite way to get the point across. At some point they'll realise they're using the wrong game-specific terminology and adapt to the actual ones used in game.

Though in the case of confusing enhancements with gear, that would be deemed appropriate to 'educate' new players because enhancements simply do not work the way armour and gear works in other MMOs. Leaving it be could lead to letdowns or confusion.
  24. A powerset with Toxic would be nice, make that rare damage tag worth something. Trouble is you'd need to figure out what is Toxic's signature secondary effect.

    Lethal has -Def
    Darkness has -ToHit
    Fire has DamageOverTime
    Sonic has -Res
    Psi has -Recharge
    ...etc

maybe...Ah, what about -Regen / -Recov?
But wait, doesn't Radiation do something like that?

    Tricky stuff...
  25. Like Necrotech said, you do get some account-wide charges of a temporary version of Mission Teleporter with a 15 minute cooldown I think.

And if they're in temporary form, there has to be a purchasable version somewhere right?
