Voodoo suggested something last night during the Eden run... and it worked.
Apparently the key is deleting the file manifest.
I'm shocked that Demon Princess 666 wasn't taken already. In fact, you can probably add 666 to the end of any name and get away with it if you're stuck for a name when I17 hits. -
Based on the title I figured this was going to be an All-Psychic run of something...

I tried a technique I found on the forums (can't find the link now, of course...) that involved just copying the City of Heroes directory and running the updater to sync everything up, but that didn't appear to work. When I ran the update it tried to "fix" every pigg file and it got nowhere even after letting it run overnight.
This morning I decided to do it the old fashioned way, but it looks like everyone is trying to pull the test code... I'm getting 11k/sec. We'll see if it's done when I get home. -
Dammit... this is the second time you stole my idea!
And the title was going to be Ride The Lightning!
I'm in with my Elec M/Elec A Brute. -
Does anyone know how to install the test client without re-downloading everything? My OS recently blew up and I had to re-install everything. CoX wasn't much of an issue since I have the AE disc, but I don't want to have to do it all over again for the test version.

My guess is it will be a short Open Beta. It's been in Closed for over a month I think.

Quote:I think your nemesis is a figment of your imagination.I'm talking to the person who's treating this like a poorly paid job, who's churning off cheap IOs like they're in a sweat-shop. I'm not telling you that manufacturing IOs to make influence is a bad thing. I'm just suggesting that you might want to make a reasonable profit out of it.
Thousands of people play the game and they're unloading stuff to the market continuously. You do realize that markets are linked across all servers, right? -
GR hits in July, so some time after that?
-
The old arguments for a sequel made sense when this game was on life support. Now that the Devs are kicking *** and taking names, I think it's much harder to justify.

Don't forget to run the AE Sploitz patch prior to start time!

Quote:I'm only talking about the existing player base for CoX. I assume NCSoft would like to capture 100% of existing subscribers to their first game (or, ideally, have them subscribe to both titles) while adding new subs.Versus the player base fragmenting over 3 of your competitors titles? You seem to be approaching this from the PoV that the market for a Super Hero based MMORPG is very small. If that were true, how could CoH, CO, DCUO, and Marvel(if such a game will ever happen) hope to make any profit in this area? I suspect all of these developers believe the market is much larger.
Clearly, CO didn't do much damage to the game, but DC and Marvel could make a big dent. They will be more at risk if their existing eggs are spread over two baskets. -
In different games, it is impossible for people to team; in the same game, they can eventually introduce something (Going Rogue, for example) that will defrag the player base.
-
Quote:GR will actually help defrag the player base a bit... everyone will become Vigilantes and Rogues and be able to play all content. When has fragmenting the player base ever been a concern of NCSoft? Many of their major pushes have done just that.
PVP, CoV, AE, GR...
It's one thing to fragment the base within the game, but it's quite another to do it across two titles. -
With all the effort they're putting into Going Rogue and the new Incarnate system I have to believe that any sequel would be years off.
I don't think it's a good move for the game either. Look at AoC2 and EQ2; usually you end up fragmenting your player base, not adding significantly to it. I'd rather stay subscribed to a mature CoX game than jump on to a sequel when there will be three other games competing for my business (Marvel, DC, and CO {okay, they already have my business but you get the idea...}).
