This is alot of what people can do.

My WP/EM Tanker (before I gutted her of all IOs, because I hated the change to EM), wasn't going to be AV Soloer. She just didn't have the DPS needed for such a thing. But she was IOed out to the point, that she wasn't dying.

Tough/Weave, stacked up with +Def to be almost softcapped to everything by Type Defense (except Psi), almost capped HP, near 100 HP regen a second with just one foe in range (I never finished the IOs), she just wasn't going down.

Even on the Lord Recluse, she tanked him with out any support, relying on her own powers and inspiration usage. Temp Powers or outside buffs.

Alot of my friends still ask me over and over to grab my tank, and are saddened when I say I can't, because I remind them I took out all her IOs.

I'd say she was min/maxed for survival. I tried leveling up a WP/DM to replace her (figuring with Siphon Life, she'd be even more survivable...but I just don't care for DM on Tankers :P )

Different ways to min/max depending on one's goals.

I'll be honest with you, I find most of those names...suckie. :P

Though a few of them are nice (did you look to see if they're available?). And the one's I thought we're okay were still limited.

Kick Girl (good silver age/golden age sounding name) works for a Martial Arts Scrapper/Stalker. Not much else.

So yes, you're right you put simple words together, doesn't make them good. And even if they are, they might only work with certain sets.

    Then there's this.

My Elec/Thermal for example is IOed for PvP as best as possible.

And looking at the build, it isn't the best built for PvP, because I take concept powers for one, and even more so, because I haven't used the second build yet, so I have the buffing shield for instance (which for a true PvP build, I'd ditch).

But I'll change that bit when I get my 60 month vet today or tomorrow.

So, there are different things to min/max a build around.

And when I post a build, it's to work towards more than anything.
  5. Uncommon.

You can tell this for one, just by looking at the powers of some builds, and seeing if they're using sets.

Then seeing if they've used sets, see what type of bonuses they have gone for.

Now, I've helped people with builds, and they come to me because I'll take their concept (and my own) and then min/max it as best as possible.

So right there, I'm not a TRUE min/maxer. As I find Hover/Fly to be anti man/maxing mself, as CJ/SJ would be the better min/max route for most builds.

This isn't to say you don't have people who will see people lacking certain powers and not complain.

I know plenty of non min/maxers who will still complain about that tank who lacks their mez protection.

I also think, the forums mislead a bit.

We plan with mids for a great build, but I doubt we all get them to that point. Because while it's possible to have multi IOed out toons, it's not the easiest.

Hero side, I have a 3 or 4 almost completed IOed toons (but not quite completed)...with most using Gen IOs, and a few of the sets I planned to get for them, actually obtained and thrown in.

Red side...only have 1 toon that is IO'ed out quite a bit. Amazingly enough, it
    s not one of my 50's. :P It's my lvl 45 Elec/Thermal.
  6. Defense with resistance.

Since toggles don't drop anymore when mezzed, I actually prefere to take Tough/Weave (Weave if getting in more defense through sets) on the squishies, to stack with their epic shield.

If it pulses every 2 seconds and deals around 25 dmg per tick per 10 enemies hit, that's 250 dmg every 2 seconds while you're using other attacks. I would argue one would see a 25% boost to kill speed simply by slotting and using damage auras. It's incredible when you have plenty of enemies around you.

Yes, however there are builds that can focus on HP/regen. I can think of a handful of circumstances that my multi-billion inf defensive builds crumple while that regen build still is standing. But, if my defenses hold, I'm significantly more survivable than a regen build.

My SS/Elec build has 39% S/L def, and is about a 4 billion inf build. I built it to be able to deal tremendous amounts of AoE damage and take very little damage in return. However, endurance on that build is a serious problem. If you aren't looking for the absolute best in high-end performance, aim for 32.5% defense and then focus on hp/recovery, and you'll be much happier. My SS/Elec requires constant attention to powersink and energize for endurance management while I watch for rage crashes. If you don't want a very intense playstyle, don't build for 40% defense, and sacrifice about 8% of that defense to add some recovery.

Without a VEAT or a bubbler to stack my defense enough to avoid cascade failure, I have not liked taking my /Elec brutes on the ITF. It trashes their defense in about 5 seconds, and I am dead in 10. Those cims really debuff your defense quick. But a single VEAT gets me well above cap, so I'm safe.
Slotting for DMG in a dmg aura, I agree with. However, I was finding I was surviving more with it slotted for end drain.

In fact, playing my ELM/ELA before the heal, I found myself crumbling alot.

It's not that bad. I have a couple of toons that have used up all the free tailor tokens and all the free vet rewards for free costume change token.

Sooo...for some of us, this is a good thing. But yes, I can see how for many it wouldn't be.
  10. From an RP standpoint...

for the vet rewards, I usually don't grab them unless I see them fitting character concept wise.

For the booster pack temp powers...I just remove Self-Destruct off my tray first thing.

Fortune telling, I keep on my tray, and use only when it's been used on me, or it's asked for. It's a useful little buff, sometimes you see a noticable effect, sometimes you don't.

If it's a RP concern of using it...just say it's just an OOC buff, since you happen to have it.

The only useable combination WOULD be Ranged/Defense, anything else would be so weak as to be unsoloable. And Ranged/Defense would be barely as strong as an old (pre I-13) Human Form Kheldian.

And you still have the problems that originally caused the ATs do be created in the first place. Can a Melee/Buff-Debuff survive in melee? As for the two combinations you eliminated with your offense/defense choices, Ranged/Melee is unplayable, we learned that from Blasters in Beta, and Defense/Buff-Debuff wouldn't have any attacks.

Considering that only the Melee/Buff-Debuff combination exists without an AT representing it, I don't see anything you would gain from this besides the ability to create Kheldian/SoA with existing Ranged/Defense combinations instead of the limited choice of an Epic AT. And honestly, I think that's opposed to the concept of the Epic ATs. They are SUPPOSED to have only a handful of powersets, that's what ties them to the game storyline.
Actually. Yes. I think a Melee/Debuff set could survive just fine.

With certain sets anyways...with toggle -tohit attached to them.

Or when fighting a Damned, upon his defeat, a flaming demon hand reaches up and grabs him and they both go up in flames. I dont think it should happen with every defeat, but one in three or so would mix things up a bit.
While I'm okay with this idea for certain villains. Not all villains kill.

My main redside villain, RaveSpider, is a more in the vain of Cat Woman & Black Cat. A professional theif (who possibly dabbles in the heroics).

Note, this isn't to say Cat Woman or Black Cat haven't or can't kill. But you get my point.

Not only that, if it did get implemented, I'd keep it to the no name minions/lts.

This is more than just for RP reasons...but I find it funny when someone says "yeah, we killed Lord Recluse" when...OMG...he's still around, and still planning havoc.

So, you figure while who ever's character defeated Recluse. That's about as far as it got. Defeated. Not outright killed.
  13. And again...using names so obscure people have no idea what it means, isn't what they're looking for.

And not everyone wants the name "Jimmy Clark" or "So Cool None Compare Man" or "[insert foreign language name here]" or "t3h 31it3" or "GremIin" as their name.

Now, I'm not saying there aren't great names available, I've found them on occaission. That doesn't however mean they fit the concept.

Recent example...virtue server..."NinjaGirl" wasn't taken. I was actually quite suprised. And it's a comicbook sounding name (more golden age/silver age imo...but you get the point)...but the name doesn't work for a concept of a sonic blasting hero who likes to wear bright orange tights.

Zen Chain Reaction (Brute with a chain themed costume)
Zen Critical Mass (Corr with rad/rad)

Etc etc. By adding the Zen as a prefix I have pretty much opened up any names I want to use, as well as made it easy to recognize my alts for any friends I should make in game.
That works for you...but for alot of people...that's just suckie. :P

Using "Zen Chain Reaction" is really no different than using "xXx Chain Reaction xXx" and that's what people want to avoid. :P

Though one thing that might help in freeing up names, is if the game would let you actually use "The" at the beginning of your name.\

Admittedly, I've only had a couple of concepts this would work for, but I had them...but could use it.

For Instance (though this wasnt the name, but I can't recall it now)...

    Forsaken (taken)

The Forsaken (taken, because the game only looks at Forsaken).

If they made it so someone could use "The" in their name, it'd make some more names available.

As far as IOs go, there is variety there to a small degree. But there are too many junk sets and not enough alternatives. There are really only a couple things worth building for, and if you look at builds you're going to see the same sets springing up all the time. It's not like people are hitting new milestones and creating awesome new builds using sets like Trap of the Hunter or Pacing of the Turtle. It's all Positron's Blast and Luck of the Gambler.

Still, it's better than just having everyone 6-slot attacks and put all damages in them.

This. It's not that there isn't diversity. It's just not enough sets have what people want as set bonuses, making the sets pretty much junk.

I've never noticed the little difference a set bonus of Sleep Resistance added to a toon without any to begin with.

My first thought for this would be to change the set bonuses to either something people find more useful, or increase those resistances enough to make them noticable.

If my defender actually saw a use for these resistance, and the rest of the set had other decent bonuses, I would likely use the set. But as of now...I havent found those bonuses to be worthwhile. :/

ED got a bad rap, because it was handled poorly.

If memory serves, all the community got was a "ED has to happen for something else we have planned".

That plan however took forever to get out. I think it was worth it. And I carried on through it. I didn't slot my attacks like everyone else anyways (1 ACC/4DMG/1 RCH vs 1 ACC/5 DMG or 6 DMG), so it hurt me less on attacks (though I still 6 slotted stamina like everyone admittedly)

ED also came along with the reduction of global defense. Basically alot of bad things happened with a long wait on the good things.

So, the wait was suckie, but made the game imo.

But from my experience with the little I've played my ELM/ELA after words...

Lightening Field...slot this for END DRAIN. This is to stack it with Power Sink's END DRAIN.

Power Sink will drain them, LF will keep it drained.

Best set bonuses, +Defense (you tend to get +HP from alot of set you would normally use anyways).

So for my experience, +Def and +Rch are what to get set bonus wise.

I was able to successfully tank (ie hold aggro...I also used taunt on my brute) the ITF, as llong as I was able to keep using PS on the mobs. If I went into a spawn without PS up, it was a hard fight.

Haven't tried to tank it since the heal was added, on my ELM/ELA, but the heal should make it better.

Oh. No. It's not the best market out there. That's why almost everything I do is AE missions for tickets, or TFs/Hami Raid for merits.

Thunderstrike, thankfully, is a rather cheap (imo anyways) set to get with merits.

Hmmm...what this seems to do is give people the melee defenders and the ranged scrappers.

What may be easier to do however, is seperate the melee/debuff, debuff/melee, range/defense, defense/range into their own ATs instead.
  24. Not that I'm against it, but why not just hit the little arrow to hide all buffs? Then if you see they don't a shield on them, rebubble them, or rebubble them a bit early?
