I'm not sure what to do say about your builds. They're obviously concept builds that hinge upon using fear powers, so it's kind of hard to min-max those. The builds look fun, but from a raw, build-the-most-effective DM/Regen standpoint, it's not the most effective one out there.
You spend a ton of slots on fear powers, and so other facets of your build go lacking. My build would be alot more boring...more defense, probably a little less recharge and with speed pool for hasten. I wouldn't worry about controls like fear because I'd focus on just killing stuff.
This isn't to say that your build is bad or anything like that, just that it's hard to min-max it when you've obviously built it around certain powers.
Yea, I wasn't really looking for advice from a min/max standpoint. I was more wondering how much survivability caltrops and the extra AoE would give me compared to the 10% def I have right now. Guess I wasn't clear enough on that. Thanks for the quick reply though!
10% defense won't be enough to make a difference at all. I only start noticing defense around 20%+.

I've been thinking about this for some time, but it's time for some outside opinions.
Should I go for about 10% def and a non-ninja run travel power, or caltrops/shuriken/exploding shuriken on my Dark/Regen?
I'll post the (more or less) exact builds that I'm thinking of below, but the TL;DR version is that neither has fitness, and both have fair amounts of recharge and +recovery, tough/resilience, and Invoke Panic.
I'm thinking that 10% def isn't a lot, and I could make some quick cash by selling the res/def unique that's being used to get there (I got it when they weren't so pricey haha). Also, between Invoke Panic and caltrops, there'd be a fair amount of mitigation going around to give me some breathing room.
So what do you guys think?
EDIT: Not looking for min/max type advice. Just wondering if I'll lose a lot of survivability if I lose the 10% def and use caltrops to keep the attacks away instead
