Come on people, 7 more submissions to go, I'd hate to see more people left out due to non-submissions. It's kindergarten, it's supposed to be easy people!

Edit: getting ahead of myself a little, but still - only one more day left. Don't miss it!

Well, if you read fast and have a dirty mind, it takes on whole other meanings...

I was going to offer if no one else did but thanks for taking that on Bubba.

The hardest part for me so far is getting a good picture of my entry but it is for the most part done.
Not sure if I like how it turned out or not but I can draw something quick in crayon tomorrow as plan B if needed.

Since it was Earth Day today...

I had the same problem that CR had...getting a decent photo was a pain! I think I spent more time fighting the flash bouncing off the crayola crayon and the red construction paper messing with my camera's ability to read the mid-tone values then drawing this silly thing.

Anyways, here is my "Reclusive Family Portrait" of the wonderful folks over on red side.

Okay - here's my entry "American Jane stays after class with a student at Atlas Park Kindergarten." (Crayolas on Construction Paper):

And I agree with Juggertha - I wish I'd have worked larger. Oh well.

And Hey, Wassy - don't sweat the delay, as always, "Real Life' takes precedence.

Now, looking at the other entries posted... Wow! Cool Stuff. er,, I mean, HOT stuff!

Juggertha - Nice, simple - yet seems very Nadya-like Attitude!

Toxic Shia - Ya know, that's an interesting take on Dragonberry! And I like the composition of the piece!

Pyro Nympho - Ha! Straight to the point: "Hot Chick!, and Nothing But!" And I see you were wise and worked Large! Cool!

Frost - "Oh! Its so warm today." Ha, I get it - very Clever! Yay for Glitter!

ChristopherRobin - Nice! And its got a heroic message! and its interacting with the Door-sill!

JohnnyKat - !!!! DUDE! That's amazing! (my only hope now is that if you get ANY better, you'll wrap back around to crummy and I'll have a chance! (kidding! )) I'm assuming you worked fairly large? How big is the original?

...and Amerikatt - sorry, I guess I was expecting to see a collection of screen-shots of the character (instead a small shot of the costume on a cat). I managed with Spidey0318's rendition (I found the thread you made here for it) and used that. Of course, I realized today that *I* don't have a link in my sig to character references for my characters - so I guess I shouldn't be so judgmental, eh? Again, sorry.

Thanks U-Naught! I was hoping to make a big 'ol Lego battle scene or something with Play-Dough even, but ya...none of that happened. It's been raining here lately and I was getting a bit stressed about getting that over-sized piece of construction paper home without if getting all messed up. I think the size is like 26" wide by 20" tall. Of course, now that I see all the construction paper cut-out entries, it reminded me of making superhero construction paper masks in kindergarten - that would of been fun to make one of those again (but not now).

Nice job on your submission too - I like the extreme perspective going on as it really captures that feeling of being a giant in a classroom full of little kid-sized stuff which is pretty funny. And, I am sure a certain forumite will love you for including her feline hero.

Thanks for including me in your piece, U-Naught! (*huggles*)

+10 Interwebz for including me in your artwork ... and another +5 Interwebz for getting it right that Amerikatt is a southpaw (literally )!

Heck! I'll throw in another +3 Interwebz because you made me look like a monkey. I guess that befits the "Imp of Impervium", right?!

I would also like to commend ChristopherRobin & JohnnyKat for the beautiful works they've contributed to April's Fan Art contest.

Good luck to all of the contestants!

I was worried that I'd have to drop out this month, but then this morning I found a couple of hours to dug around in my kid's toy cupboard and come up with some suitable (I hope) materials.

I used generic kiddies' felt-tip pens from the Early Learning Centre - they were on the very brink of all being dried up and dead after a few years' heavy handed use by a small boy, but I squeezed a little life out of enough of them, I think. I don't know what construction paper is - I'm guessing that it might be an American term for a paper that's possibly similar to cartridge, and bog-standard cartridge paper. is what I used.

Anyway, I spent a couple of hurried hours knocking out this doodle of a generic CoH superheroine building a substantial rockery for her spring alpines. I hope it qualifies. I should have been cleaning the bathroom and kitchen instead of doing this, so it'll be doubly painful if it fails!

Unfortunately, I cannot qualify this entry. Marker was one of the materials I said was off-limits in the original post, even though you can find them in kindergartens. I didn't allow anything you'd still commonly see in professional use (I realize probably not the same brand, but still goes against the point of the theme).

Posted

Oh well, nevermind. I wasn't sure because I think there's a difference of interpretation regarding the term 'marker' between the two sides of the Atlantic. Over here the term tends to mean something quite different from children's felt-tips (which are far from anything you'd find in professional use). But we're gradually catching up to the correct usage of these words , and I take your point, Wassy.

Unfortunately, I shall have to drop out of the competition as I've definitely run out of time, now. I should have cleaned that bathroom, I guess. Now I'll catch it from the wife...

Some nice entries all around here people, very creative.

@HappyDan: The OP does say no "pens" as well as no markers (maybe should've PM'd Wassy if you were not sure
that the medium you wanted to use qualified) but no worries man the deadline is far enough away yet... you still have like 16 hours.
Slap a pressure washer on the end of a hose, give the bathroom the quick once over, (don't worry it will air dry) grab a box of crayons and go to it.
Oh and construction paper stateside is like a coarse tooth paper that is a bit thicker than normal and comes in all kinds of colors other than white, it looks like this.

@Unaught and JK: I hear ya guys, I'm having the reverse problem though, mine is hard to shoot a good image of cuz it's over 10 ft. long.

Even standing on a chair with my arms over my head (I'm 6'3") I still can't get the camera high enough in the air to get the whole thing in one shot without being at a severe angle that distorts it. I may go out this morning and try standing on the hood of my SUV and see if that is any better or maybe I can borrow a neighbors ladder... if he gets home before it starts raining.

I also learned it's almost impossible to get a solid line or block of color on such a coarse surface lol.

Okay. Hello talented people. I am not an artist, nor have I ever claimed to be one.

But I caught sight of this thread and my niece has been round, and her crayons were just sitting there.

Sadly, I only had some printer/copy paper to do this little doodle on so I'm not sure if it qualifies. Anyway, it kept me occupied for a handful of minutes

Lusca (for it is, he/she/it) was easy. Trying to draw a figure with crayon (and there were no sharpeners around...) is difficult.

Anyway, hope this raises a smile somewhere in the Intarhwebs.

Now don't go trying to credit me with anything approaching common sense!

I wanted to use wax crayons or coloured chalk, but Junior doesn't have anything like that anymore, and I'm essentially a miser...

Bindweed - I know there is obviously marker/felt tip pen used but it is interesting that on my monitor (on work's crappy laptop) some of the coloring looks like crayon. Great piece though!

U-Naught and JohnnyKat - Amazing pieces as usual!

CR - Great sidewalk art! WOW 10 feet?!?! Amazing. Obviously it's at the edge of your house. Get on the roof and take a pic straight down.

Frost - LOL I had to read it a dozen times to figure out why that "chick" was asking Hami about the weather! DOH! Sometimes I R SLO...

Another very hard month of voting! I'm going to have to have my son make an account so we can split some votes. LOL J/K Though he probably should make an account to post his own arts.. hmmm

Good luck everyone!

Oh just saw Arctic's post - Very nice! You guys always amaze me with your talents!

edit - I'm going to have to buy a new Thesaurus just to find new creative ways of saying "AWESOME!"

@AP: Hahaha... I imagine a thought bubble over the heroes head saying "Darn it! Lusca suckered me in again!"
Yeah I know what you mean I had no way to sharpen my sidewalk chalk and the things are almost an inch think around so fine lines were impossible after the first 30 seconds or so for me, heh.

My bad... won't happen again.

I was kinda the same I wanted the big box of crayons but wasn't going to spend for it just to use it once... then I saw the chalk for 2 bucks and thought now there's a fun challenge... SOLD!

Come on now no excuses! If you're a bit of a miser you can just get the small box of crayons (their cheap ) you only need a few of the common colors and hey you said Junior doesn't have any... well he will now, just think of it as a present for your son... albeit slightly used.

I went for the 64 crayon box. I didn't want to pony up for the big box. At least the 64 box had a sharpener.

What exquisite work, Mr. Bindweed! She exudes power! If you hadn't said that the markers were dried out, I would never have known.

Nice picture, Princess! Nice use of color and texture. Blue and green were excellent choices.

FYI, Lusca is female. I should know, since I was her healer one day when mean ole peeps were trying to hurt her. Despite my best efforts, their damage exceeded my ability to heal her fast enough. Thankfully, she slipped under the water and managed to get away and recover over time.

I am the same...I cringed buying two boxes of crayons as I knew I would destroy the single black and white crayon in one box. I don't think they sell crayola crayons individually - oh well. I find it ironic that we balk at buying some kid art supplies, but will blow money on all sorts of junk without thinking much about it.

And Bindweed, your maker sketch is really fantastic - nicely done!

Absolutely - I'll go to the pub tonight and pay about £2.70 per pint, and maybe £6 on a Chinese takeaway I probably won't finish. Then I'll wake up tomorrow feeling rough and about £30 poorer with nothing to show for it except some forms of physiological damage.

And yet I'm too mean and lazy to stump up £1.50 for a box of crayons.

Being an adult is really quite hard to grasp...

Well, you had a gorgeous submission, anyway. It looks absolutely professional. The tones on the rock, on her skin, the great muscle straining to show she's actually working to lift that rock, all of it.

Agree with Shia on this... now all you have to do is redraw it all exactly the same but with crayons and you're good to go.

Ironic, actually, I actually checked a few places for the best price on the Crayons I bought - under $2 for a 24 box. Then later, as I was moving things around to clear space for a bass - I found not one, but two more boxes of crayons. A 24-box and a 16-box. Brand new, never used!

To top it off, I barely dented the one box. The Black got the most use (for the "Blackboard") - and even its not down to the paper. The others all still almost have points. Go figger.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Johnnykat - Thanks! Yeah, if Jane tries to stand up in that room, she's gonna hit her head on the ceiling!

Amerikatt - thanks for the kudos, sorry 'bout the monkey-look! EDIT: and Totally guessed on the Leftie thing!

Bindweed! - another very great image! Too bad about the markers - hope you can manage something else before the deadline! I'd hate to see you drop!

ChristopherRobin - Don't suppose you have an extensible tripod? I once put my camera on a tripod, extended all the way out, and held it over my head for an ...er, "Over-the-head" shot.

Arctic_Princess - Been there! Done that! Transported to the nearest hospital almost immediately!

And thank you, PowerStream!
