Sorry Iggy, missed your reply! Thanks for the build.

I got a short term memory... No worries
Raised up the accuracy a little...

I had that build for one day. I'll be kicking myself in the butt for for a month!
Edit: I should add, it's because of my play style I say what I do, yours may differ from mine.
@MARTy McFly
Should have put a warning label on that build...
I don't personally have a BS/DA, all I was doing was trying to improve on the previous build.
If I were to build for one, it would include some purps which would improve the accuracy and recharge and it'll probably be Katana.
So apologies for any kind of inconvenience that the build had cost you...

Not at all your fault, it's mine for not taking into account how slow BS is. As far as an inconvenience, this just teaches me a lesson. I'll reroll it with all the respecs I've never used on it, no worries.
I'm trying to come up with a build that can use most of what I have from yours, while getting some recharge and ACC. I'll post back when I'm happy with it.
@MARTy McFly
All of the drawbacks you noted from your day of using the build were already discussed in the thread, so... yeah. Your bad experience was kind of predictable from all of the comments. That's not to say it's a bad build (I think it's a great build for its purpose at its budget level), but it just isn't the build for you.
I'll post my own build for reference as you're trying to add some recharge and accuracy. I have 40% global recharge and plenty of accuracy for +4s. Mine is by far NOT a budget build, though. I threw huge gobs of influence at it until all my problems went away. Also, it's Katana/Dark Armor, so the powers and slotting aren't going to be exactly the same on Broad Sword. Also, as with the original, DPS was not a primary goal. So I'm using the rather sucktastic chain of Divine Avalanche -> Gambler's Cut -> Sting of the Wasp -> Gambler's Cut. It's still putting out 175 DPS if my pylon times aren't a fluke (I'd calculated lower on paper), so with enough influence even a bad attack chain can perform, but you can do MUCH better if that's what you want to focus on. It handles +4x8 OK, but it's no farmer - specifically, I farm a little under 1/2 as fast as good, dedicated farmers. I haven't really started on AVs, but it should be fine, if slow.

Videos of Other Stupid Scrapper Tricks
Interesting thing: I loaded Werner's build to get a look at it, and changed Katana to Broadsword. That shouldn't change anything about the build so far as I can tell, but just by making that change, the Ranged and AoE defense dropped by about 3%. Even stranger: changing it back to Katana did not return the lost defense, though it stayed at 42% from that point on. This probably has an easy solution (going to look into it now), but if anyone knows why this might happen, I'd be interested to hear.

Note as Werner had indicated, you might not want the exact power switch from Katana to BS on that build.

Thanks to both Iggy and Werner on following up. I did look at your build as well Werner, also did a quick check at WW's for a few of the PvP enhancements. I knew they'd cost an arm and a leg, boy oh boy! My first look was at the Gladiator. 2 billion seems to be the going price today. While I could come up with that much, to me it's a bit of a stretch for one enhancement. So much for going that route
Anyway, I did like the build except I also wanted to keep my big hitters (Disembowel,Headsplitter) I do team most of the time so I'm hoping with the build I've put together it'll be ok. I'd like to know your thoughts on what I have, and what you think needs changing.
Maybe one day I'll get that Gladiator for the extra 3% defense

@MARTy McFly
My first look was at the Gladiator. 2 billion seems to be the going price today.
|
It's effectively price-capped, because the inf cap is 2 billion and therefore you can't bid more than that.
And that'll probably remain the going price every day from now on until they increase the drop rate, or do something to dramatically increase the popularity of PvP.

@MARTy McFly
Couple notes on the build:
1) I specifically DIDN'T go for recharge. If the recharge gets too much higher than it is the end bar starts bottoming out at an alarming rate, due to Broadsword attacks having on of the higher end costs among scrapper primaries.
2) It WILL solo an AV, as long as the AV isn't packing a lot of lethal resistance (So Marauder, Siege, and Nightstar aren't gonna be happening. However, it is not quick about it, and probably can't do it with no inspirations (bring blues).
3) I seldom venture much higher than +2/x4 on that toon. Even with gobs of recharge, Broadsword is SLOOOOOOOOW, so it takes forever to get through a map if there are too many mobs running around in it.
4) This was never intended to be a ZOMGAWESOME!!!1 build. I was challenging myself to softcap a Broadsword/Dark Armor as cheaply as possible, and in that I succeeded. It's a general purpose build that isn't intended for running +4/x8 or soloing too many AVs (though it can do both in a pinch, just not terribly well).
All in all, if you wanted a build that will rival the best DM/Shield builds, this one is not the build you were looking for. It has significant drawbacks, but I am happy with it's performance in eveything I've thrown at it. It is the first toon I've had that pulled off the RWZ Challenge on the first attempt (pylon soloing ain't gonna happen though)
In terms of actual expense, I probably spent around 350 million on this build, over a period of around 4 months. A lot of the high dollar stuff came as merit reward random drops, so I didn't have to spend too much there.
Ironically, the build isn't completely finished live. I still need 2 BotZ -KB, and the Miracle proc (which I have NEVER had drop for me)

I'd like to know your thoughts on what I have, and what you think needs changing.
|
Skipping Death Shroud is a bad idea if you're trying to improve your damage output. It's your best AoE attack. Seriously. It's an AoE attack for single-target endurance. What's not to like, other than the difficulty of fitting in? I haven't run the numbers, but I'm guessing that you'd be better off just swapping out Slice in favor of Death Shroud, and using Whirling Sword or Parry as your filler attack when Hasten is down.
The global recharge does help you spam Whirling Sword, and I suppose the Eradication set bonuses combined with a fairly-good +76% recharge enhancement make it the best choice IF you're willing to suck down the blues.
And I think that's a big drawback, at least for me. You're going to be sucking down a lot of blues. That's fine if you're ready for it. Might just be a play style difference.
The other big drawback of the build for me is that it drops below the soft cap in ranged and AoE defense. You'll be taking 2.5x more damage from ranged and AoE than a soft-capped build. But it sounds like you're intentionally making that trade for better damage output. That's fine. I just want to make sure you're going in with eyes wide open.
The other main thing that global recharge helps with is Dark Regeneration. However, you only have it slotted for +48% recharge. Seems like a waste. I'll also give the same comment I gave before to ClawsandEffect - you don't really need to enhance Dark Regeneration for Heal in normal play. He did it, and I did it, and if you like to be able to handle single, difficult targets, maybe you should too. But in general, not recommended.
It does look like you took care of any accuracy problems, with all attacks at least 108% against +4s, giving you some wiggle room for defense or to-hit debuffs.
The Parry slotting looks particularly strange to me. The only big, important set bonus you're getting is melee defense, but you're already over the soft cap with one hit of Parry, so it's doing very little for you. And if you do want more melee defense out of the power than the soft cap, actually enhancing the defense in the power will do more for you than trying to pick up a small set bonus. How about five Crushing Impacts (all but damage/recharge) and the Luck of the Gambler global? Still soft-capped, 5% more global recharge, 7% more global accuracy, better damage enhancement, better accuracy enhancement. You lose 5 hit points, but I think it's totally worth it.
Probably just a mistake, but swap out the Aegis res/end/rech for res/end. You probably don't need recharge in a toggle.
(Edit: Further concerns just from reviewing what you didn't like about the original.
- While you have the accuracy to fight above +2, I doubt that your survivability has improved, and if it has (through better recharge of Dark Regeneration), not to the point of doing +4x8 easily.
- You might be able to handle some AVs, but I suspect you'll still be chugging the blues to do it.
- If you add Death Shroud, I think your AoE will be pretty decent, but you still won't be taking out large spawns at a good rate. Perhaps about as fast as you realistically can, though. I just wouldn't get your hopes up TOO high.

I had similar results on the RWZ challenge- very easy with my ClawsandEffect-based Kat/Dark build.
I actually tried a pylon with okay results, but I got bored by the time the pylon got to about 50% Health, and I used probably ten blues to keep my Endurance up. I've had similar experiences with some of my other high defense toons not designed for AV/plylon fighting. I can survive it, but I get bored with it long before the kill!
My total expenses were about 400m with some poor spending habits, so I think we're in the same range.
OK, looks like when Hasten is up, you can run Head Splitter -> Hack -> Disembowel -> Parry -> Hack with a very small gap. While it's down, probably replace the second Hack with a Slice. If you want to do better DPS, I'd find a slot from somewhere to stick an Achilles' Heel in Hack. Also, replace the Hecatomb damage with the Hecatomb proc - you'll do more damage on average.
As I said before, I really like your original build. I'll prolly go good enought for now, until I can stand to part with that much influence. As for my +4/8 remark, I guess you misunderstood me, I have no plans to use this build for farming, just trying to convey how underperforming the set is in respect others.
Actually, I'd prolly scrub this altogether if it wasn't the first character I created when I started playing the game. He'll be 5 in a month

Thanks again for all the input and advice.
@MARTy McFly
Also, on my lack of recharge, I kinda like the whole kaCHUNK....wait....kaCHUNK....wait....kaCHUNK style of combat it leads to. I like to imagine the look of fear the enemy has on his face when I'm winding up for Head Splitter.
If you kill them too fast...they don't have time to be afraid

Here's the final build I ended up with for Maya the Eternal, my Katana/Dark built with Claw's plans. I played around with a few slots here and there, but his original build is easily recognizable.

Looks good. I'd consider swapping Sting of the Wasp for Gambler's Cut, but otherwise it looks solid.

Here is the easily to tell what other builds heavily influenced mine that I am aiming for and just about there on my Kat/DA.
Question: Would I be better served with another PerfShift + %End in Physical Protection?

Question: Would I be better served with another PerfShift + %End in Physical Protection?
|
The recharge in your Gambler's Cut is going to leave you with tiny gaps. You want it at 1.58 seconds for DA>GC>GD>GC>DA>GC>SD>GC. It's at 1.63 seconds now. Granted, an extra 0.2 seconds across the whole chain isn't much, but you also need to consider that the chain already has a fraction of a second where the double-stack of Gambler's Cut drops. I wouldn't settle for that, but of course you don't want to break up the Mako's set either.
Since you don't have an Achilles' Heel in it, it isn't so important to spam Gambler's Cut. Can you pull off DA>GD>GC>DA>SD>GC? Golden Dragonfly wants to be at 6.60 seconds for that, and is as 6.95, so you have a gap there too, though at least the double-stack doesn't drop. I guess I'm suggesting that you put more recharge in Golden Dragonfly.

Thanks Werner, that definitely gives me a bit to play with in Mids. Been in game for only a little over a year and just started recently paying attention to things such as soft cap and IOs. The gap right now is minimal and does not impact most of my play. I really notice it when it comes to banging on pylons and some AVs.
hello,
A little bump to this interesting thread.
In regards to the up-comming zephyr nerf i'm looking towards new idea for my kat/da.
I can't afford purple, but the other big IO that i putted in the build i've got em already.
So i would like to raise a little my ranged def without sacrifing too much rech or regen ..
It sounds hard in fact.
I would like to keep the attack chain : DA > GD > GC > DA > SD > GC as it will work with that much recharge i think.
Any idea would be welcome.
