Hi!! Do we need to purchase an additional account to play cov if we already have coh. Will there be an additional monthly fee if we play coh and cov?? Are the computer requirements the same for cov as they are for coh?? [color=blue] [ /color]

Hi all --

We've been getting lots of questions about the CoV pre-order... specifically, which exclusive item is available at which retailer. Here's the list:

-Crab Spider Battle Helmet: EB Games (male helmet)
-Helm of the Blood Widows: GameStop (female helmet)
-Arachnos Mystic Helm: Best Buy (male helmet)
-Wolf Spider War Helmet: All other U.S. retailers (male helmet)

I've recently received graphics of all 4 helmets and am working to get them posted for you to look at. If this doesn't happen today, I will try my hardest to have them available for you on Monday. I'll post again with a link when this is done.

I would like to know,
are the bonus items included if COV is reserved instore or are they included via pre-order? Are the items avialable to Canadians like myself?

Hokay - let me go on record as joining the multitudes who think the "different helmets for different points of purchase" bit is, in my opinion, "crummy." I tend to shop at a favorite store for reasons of convienience, price, selection, and an overall pleasant buying experience. This scheme flys in the face of my buying preference. So, either I follow my personal buying preference and get stuck with a "special helmet" I'm NOT interested in - or I turn my back on a store that has earned my buying loyalty just so I can get the ONE "special helmet" that looks nicer (but may or may NOT work with my choice of villian gender... ).

Or, I can wait, what? - six months to a year for the possibility that I can somehow get the one I want "in game"?

"humph!" I say. I'll pass on the special promo, thanks.

This really does smack of a market-tracking gimmick.

(...dang! gotta unbunch these twisted undies... )

I'm also jumping on this bandwagon. I hate that just because I pre-ordered from Gamestop (favorite store, and most convenient for me), I get an exclusive helmet for FEMALE characters. I still have yet to see the appeal - as a man - of playing a female character. It boggles my mind.

I have friends that love playing female characters in MMOs and pen-and-paper rpgs, but me? I just can't get into it.

And now I get an exclusive, female-toon-specific helmet option. Not cool. Why couldn't we get something like pre-order prestige running sfx again? Something that wasn't gender specific?

But I'll stop complaining once I get my preorder disc and get into beta, so don't take me too seriously.

I've got a question for those of you going for the Wolf Spider War Helmet (All other retailers). Have you been able to place your pre-order online yet and if so, where?

I searched CompUSA and could not find the game listed at all, and I tried Barnes&Noble who actually list the pre-order as available through Gamestop!

I'd like to place my pre-order today so if you've got a place for me to check please let me know.

I am in London, Ontario, Canada. Best Buy, EB Games, and Future Shop(Canadian version of Best Buy, Best Buy owns it) have no clue what I am talking about. I was told at EB games that they usually wont get any promotions for winter releases till October, even if the Pre-order is already released. Hope that helps at all. If anyone can give me ANY info as to how I could get it sooner I would truley Appreciate it. Thank you.

PS
Still miffed I didn't get an invite, had pre-order and beta tested Coh lol

I went and pre-ordered CoV from an EB store today and they said just today they got an email saying they will have the bonus materials in-store by August 26! That was in Denver, Co. Yay!!

I work at gamestop and our pre-orders (w/ bonus disks) have just arrived today.
The serial is covered by one of those scratch off things...however, be careful when rubbing off...it looks like it was taped on and i had a problem reading mine. I have yet to get my serial to successfully work (but then again, i had to try like 10 times to get the page to even load...maybe server for upgrade is down ATM) Anyways, unless their shipment was late, your local gamestop SHOULD have the preorder disks available.

So here is the un-ecperienced internet buying gamers question. If I ordered it online, will it be shipped to my house or do I have to visit the store nearest me to receive it. I ask because I don't think there is an EB games within 50 miles of me and I don't have transportation to get to it.

O.K whew! I just read thru this post and STILL NO answer.
So here is my question.
I have pre-ordered from gamestop a week or so ago. Gamestop sent me an E-mail dated today that "it" has been mailed i should recieve in 24 hrs or so.
My question is about BETA. is this disc they are sedning a BETA disc? How am i getting on beta? If I recieve the disc will i be on beta in a few hours? or am i still weeks away?
Forget the stupid helmets what about BETA lol???/
Help i will reach out the the mighty clintonian for this one. He is great for knowledge adn answers young heros pleas from afar.
Thanks again for help all

PWR_Surge: The important part of the pre-order box is a serial code you will get that needs to be added to your PlayNC account. The disc is not a beta disc. Once you enter your code you'll be in their database to send an invite to once they are ready to do so. Also, I would not expect the invite to be coming very quickly. We've just started Closed beta and the pre-order invites won't likely go out until Open beta.

Posted

Wouldn't it make more sense to allow you to get into soemthing a little before open beta though? I mean buying the game beforehand seems to warrant more than the beta that most can just waltz into.

Thanks alot Gravastar!
That was the info I was looking for. So I add that "number" to my COH acct and that tells them to send me a BETA invite. Also how does this affect the fact i been playing consistently for over a year? Does it make a difference?
And by your judgement When would YOU think i should be in BETA at this point? Mid sept? early Sept. late Oct?
I am just curious and seek the light of knowledge.
Thanks again if you can answer this.

Guys, just remember that getting the CoV pre-order doesn't mean you get into the closed beta right away. If they handle it the way they did with CoH (which seems to be the case from every official thing I have seen on the subject) Pre-orders allow you to get into the beta 2 weeks or so before CoV goes live (which is not going to be for a while). So don't get your hopes and think that buying the pre-order will mean you get a beta invite right away. The only people who are getting beta invites are the ones who have been selected for the first wave (selected from the list of people who have had paying accounts since the beginning, SOME of those people not all of them).

Getting the pre-order of CoV allows you to get the special item (in this case one of the helmets), some other bonus materials, an invite to the beta JUST before it hits live (I believe CoH gave the Pre-orders access to beta about 2 weeks before it hit live it certainly wasn't much longer than that), and the 3 day head start (which was the game went live, but the first 3 days only the pre-orders were able to play, day 4 everyone who purchased th game could play).

From the way people are talking on this thread, it sounds like people think that getting the pre-order is going to let them into the beta right away. None of the information that has been officially posted about the beta and how the beta will work suggests that. You guys may want to adjust your expectations of the pre-order accordingly.

There is a link to online ordering in the 8/11/05 email from City of Heroes

There is a place on the order where you can indicate if you want the order shipped to your home or if you want to pick it up at the store.

There is a shipping charge. I chose the one day delivery. They charged me a $9.95 shipping charge.

They will send you an email verifying your order.

Having it shipped to your home in my opinion is the best option. Sometimes the stores don't get their full shipment of games and you might have to wait until the next store delivery.

I preordered CoH the same way and both from EB.
