  1. Most of the instablitiy that I have experienced comes from bad video drivers. Fixed by rolling back to a stable version.

I don't get these memory crashes. Its more of a case of tracking it down. Most of the ATI driver issues were tracked down because of ATI users posting info and being able to compare notes.
  2. Sadly, ATI keeps dropping the ball on video drivers.

Other users have reported that 11.6 is unstable.

    Here is my experience.

    10.6 = Stable
    10.9 = Stable
10.10 = Unstable (oroboros and contact crashes)
10.11 = Unstable (oroboros and contact crashes)
11.1 = Only briefly used. I don't recall any issues.
    11.2 = Stable
    11.3 = Stable
11.5b = Unstable (Game will crash after 10-15 minutes)

Others have reported that 11.4 is stable too.

    Currently on 11.3 (with 6870 and 5770) 10.6 (with 5750)

    YMMV
  3. I've only recently got all ATs to 50. Some were a challenge. Stalker, PB and Dominator were the hardest for me to play to 50. MM to 50 was easy, but the AT doesn't do well in the "speed" TF mentality. Pet mobility being the biggest problem.

The last 50 was an Arachnos Soldier. Pretty easy to level and fun to team with and play.

    A few I won't play anymore.

PBs just have too much KB for a "team" AT.
Stalkers just get ignored for team requests. Give up too much hide and AS and most of their good stealth can be duplicated easily.
MMs can't keep up on speed teams and too many "pet unfriendly" issues.

Buff/debuff is very OP when you have lots of it. Probably why I have many Controllers, Corruptors and Defenders.

Not a big fan of Dominators. Although I do like my Fire/fire/fire.

Brutes and scrappers for solo fun. I love the versatility of Brutes.
Tanks, not so much because I prefer brutes.

WS, not bad with enough recharge and IOs.
Widow - yeah lots of fun.
  4. For this mission, autocomplete. mission done.
  5. Hmm. Where do I start....

CPU: Phenom II x6 1100T is at the end of the line and will be replaced by Bulldozer in September. Intel 2500K or 2600K. Best performance ATM for the money.

GPU: 6790 isn't that good a card, its a reject 6850. Not a fan of Crossfire when a single card performance has less hassles. With your budget a single 6970 is a much better choice. Nvidia GTX 570 is a good alternate.

    Your motherboard is overkill too.

    I'd go with Hyperstrike's suggestion.
  6. try freeing up some hard drive space.
  7. Your hard drive looks almost full.

    C Drive: (WDC WD32 00AAJS-22L7A SCSI Disk Device) 20797MB out of 145570MB (14%) free
    D Drive: (WDC WD32 00AAJS-22L7A SCSI Disk Device) 12575MB out of 145572MB (8%) free

    try defragging your hard drive?
  8. Did you try 10-9 or 10-6?

5000 series cards can use the older drivers. Not an option for 68xx or 69xx users. 10-9 is pretty stable. 10-10 and 10-11 well those drivers would hang and crash.

One sneaky thing I noticed about 11-5 is that it has an auto update drivers feature.
  9. To think Vista was more stable.

I've had no issues with Windows 7 or Vista. Just with bad ATI or Nvidia Drivers.

When CoH lasts long enough while CTD-ing to create an error message they are corrupt file and fatal error messages, but the files are not corrupt. They run fine on the next reboot.

All other recent games run fine.
  10. Well you can try 11-4. I use 11-3 on two machines with no issues. I have 10-6 on and older XP rig with a 5750 which I have been playing on this week. Since you have a 5000 series card, you could use 10-9 or 10-6.

11-5b was horrible, I would crash every 10 minutes.

Note for brave ATI users. 11-6 is out.
  11. What kind of samsung is it? It should support DVI.

I don't think its the monitor connection....have you tried to uninstall and reinstall of CoH?

How do you feel about a clean windows install?

Here's what I did: I logged in to the game in safe mode, pulled up the options menu, used the dropdown menu to select the "Desktop", quit the game, and started it back up. As I type this, it's been three minutes and it's still sitting there at the "Loading..." screen.

Could it have something to do with my monitor? Someone was asking earlier about whether I had it plugged in to my video card through an adapter... it's plugged in to one, now that I check. It's a standard VGA plugged into my nVidia Geforce GTX 260 via an adapter that has two rows of plugs, with a flat piece off to the side (which has 4 plugs around it). Sorry, I'm not much of one for knowing adapters and the likes. Could this have anything to do with it? I hope not, I'd really not like to have to give up this nice monitor.
  12. Nice rig you have there. It should do quite well on 24 person BAFs.

I think Hot's suggestion is a good place to start, lower gfx settings.

The i3-2100 is still way better than that P4 you have.

Sorry if I forget about availability of what is for sale in Jordan. The 9800 is the best of the bunch.

edit: I live 10 miles from newegg. so yeah I am spoiled about computer parts.
  14. Sam, if you are going for 400 series I have to agree with Hyperstike, 460 1gb is the way to go. Avoid the 460 SE (suck edition). Abuse the card for a couple of months and be happy you spent just over $130 when you read about the GTX 680 just being released.

Otherwise, 560 Ti, 570 and 580 are a good nvidia choices. (or heck 560 if you can get it really cheap)

I hope not, the 9800 GT is a 3 year old card from Nvidia.

That card is the bare minium for ultra mode. There are much better cards with less power demands than that.

(Funny part is, I've just checked again earlier today. Still can't upgarde my connection due to ISP's s***** servers and router nodes and stuff).

Awesome, so you recommend the GT9800? (Also keeping in mind that I can also order something that's not in the list. Will take a few days longer to get but if it's worth it, I'll take it).
  16. Its much shorter than 2 minutes.

I'll wait til I see a fix for that in the patch notes before I play it again.
  17. Its always best to find a tech site with benchies so you don't get ripped off by marketing.

As such, wouldn't going to a 460 or 560 be a step down, or do the extra letters like "Ti" and "GTX" make up for that? I made that mistake once upon a time of going from a 6600 GT to an 8500 plain and saw a loss of performance.

I'd actually be willing to buy an older-generation card that's more powerful than shoot for the newest-latest. As a hypothetical question, what's the beefiest 400s card that's still not astronomical in cost and how does that compare to a GTX 285?
  18. Sadly, the marketing doesn't keep with a consistant system. They also try rebadging an old chip as a new one. Example AMD/ATI 5770 -> 6770 same chip same performance.

At least on nvidia cards its currently like that in the US. (GTX 560 TI)

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130604

The 400 series cards are slower and hotter than the 500 series cards. There is currently a fire sale on GTX 460 cards. Some cases in the $120 range for the 1GB card. (About 1/2 the price of a 560 Ti but with OC'ing can give the 560 a run for its money). The 570 and 580 are certainly better if you are shooting for high end. Lower end 560/560 Ti its not so clear.

    Go here and compare.

Hyperstrike: Well, that would mean playing on that old machine. Ripping out memory again (as I put it back in). I suppose for the CoX community I'll do that. Probably during the week as I only have so much time to play. Heh, I wonder how well it handles BAF/Lambda.

Wanted: Thanks for keeping us informed with your plans.
  20. Hi Sam.

If you have to buy right now.

Nvidia: "GTX 560 Ti" seems to be the card to get right now. Although there are people who would make a case for going for the more expensive GTX 570 or spending less on the GTX 460 1GB and OC the card. There is a GTX 560 but it isn't as good as the Ti version.

ATI: Lots of tough choices. "Cheap" would be the 6850 or more expensive would be 6950.

If you have a PSU that can handle a GTX 285 then power isn't an issue and given how huge that card is, size of video card shouldn't be an issue either.

Personally, I would go with the 6950 but all of those cards are very good.

I haven't kept up to date on video hardware for some time now, ever since I got a GTX 285 that seems to be able to run most everything, so I haven't the foggiest as to what's current and what's a scam. Any advise on the subject is very welcome.

P.S. I'm swapping out of this one because it has a hardware gremlin somewhere that I'm tired of trying to fix.
  21. Yep, another TF on the list of TFs I won't run until a fix Primal Duray.

Ran this TF 3 times and failed once since 4 players, while allowed wasn't enough to beat this TF.

Other 2 times it was a full team of 50s. He went down pretty quickly. For the range 20-40 with a min of 4, its not well balanced.
  22. Silly question but did you load your monitor drivers? Now, it shouldn't need them but I loaded mine.

I notice it doesn't list any info for your monitor in CoHelper.

    Monitor:
    Monitor's Max Resolution:
    (blank)

What kind of monitor do you have and how is it connected to your PC? I would assume is DVI-D. Did you check the monitor's manufacturer and check for drivers?

    Mine says this.

    Monitor: Dell U2410(Digital)
    Monitor's Max Resolution: 1920,1200

So, to summarize, best use of money on your current machine, a core 2 CPU and new Hard Drive. The MB can take a better processor. More RAM would be a mistake. After that, we would need to know more about case and PSU for video card suggestions.

New machine of course would have lots of options but that would be a different topic.
