You forgot Indiana Jones.

1. Who is going? I am. Are you going to the meet and greet? If I can get a ticket to it.
2. What do you think the most important question to ask the devs? Are you coming out east again later this year?
3. What are you goingto buy at the convention? Mostly convention sketches, some back issues of comics I need to fill out my collection, and maybe a few autographs. Can you bring me back a cookie? Sorry, the cookies at that convention center cost more than my monthly car payment. -
Quote:First off, if you have no interest in it, don't watch it, it's that simple. There are lots of critically acclaimed shows that I have never watched an episode of even though my friends practically browbeat me to watch them.Just to let people know I still haven't watched any episodes, and I have the entire first season there waiting to be watched.
I really think I'm just burnt out on fantasy, pseudo-fantasy and political intrigue stories these days. I stopped watching Dexter after the third season because I started wondering why it was I was empathising with a serial killer ('but he's a good serial killer!'). Dexter's a power fantasy in the end, getting away with murder. Everyone's had at least one dark fantasy like that, Dexter just embodies it.
I think Game of Thrones to me is an extension of that; we'd all like to be clever, devious people who come up with clever ways to get rid of our rivals. I admit freely that's just my impression without reading the books or watching the show. It's never gotten my interest enough to watch one episode yet.
That might change, but I feel burnt out on a lot of tv shows because they feel all same-y or don't last long enough to get your interest. I had a friend joke to me that Game of Thrones will just go the way of Rome by getting two seasons and then cancelled because it's too expensive to make or the initial interest dies off. Rome I really got into, but I'd always had an abiding interest in the Roman culture.
I also admit, there was something disincentivising for me in hearing from a friend 'well, what happens is that Martin makes these compelling and interesting characters, and you'll get attached to them...and then they'll die. He'll just kill them.'
I'm not sure what the appeal is in that? Would I want to see characters I like get killed off abruptly? Again, without reading/seeing it, it feels like 'shock storytelling'. Like the story isn't interesting enough in itself, so a sudden shocking death will keep you interested. But again, this is what happens in so much of the tv I can't bring myself to watch anymore. Stargate:Universe was a show I couldn't even watch one episode was because the concept was all 'hey, we're all screwed up in some way and some of us are gonna die, just like in Battlestar Galactica'.
I'm a grownup, I know things don't always end cheerfully or with a happily ever after. I experienced a sudden brutal death in my real life when my mother died after a horrifically short six-month battle with myloid leukemia. And maybe that's the crux for me; stuff like that isn't interesting, it sure isn't entertaining and you'd do anything not to be a part of it. I feel it's hard for me to take interest in how brutally unexpected life can be when it's the last thing you'd want to do. And it feels a bit masochistic, too. But hey, that's just me.
I dunno, maybe someone can engender some interest in the show for me.

As for some of your points above:
1) The clever, devious people in A Game of Thrones are not really the ones you root for - they're evil and you hope they get what's coming to them. At least that's my experience.
2) I'm still about 100 pages from the end of the first book, and in the novel, the deaths are not really abrupt, though they may seem that way when you compress 800+ pages into a 10 episode TV series. And the deaths are neither meaningless, nor gratuitous. They serve a purpose to move the story forward and provide motivation for other characters. They are definitely not done for shock value, though that is probably the way a lot of viewers feel about them, because in most movies or TV shows, the good guys always win and the heroes never die.
In Game of Thrones, you never know who is going to win and who is going to die, and that, to me, makes it interesting. In most movies, you can pick out which characters are going to live about 15 minutes in and the rest of the movie is about watching explosions - there's no tension because you know Batman/Indiana Jones/Harry Potter/the virtuous cheerleader played by an A-list actress isn't really in any danger of dying. If that's your cup of tea, that's fine. Different strokes and all that. -
Quote:I know I'm a week late commenting, but the answer quoted above is a bunch of baloney.City of Heroes Freedom not only allows players the “Freedom” to pick and choose items, powers and costumes that *they* want, but it also allows Paragon the Freedom to release items, powers and costume by themselves without having to create a “thematic” bundle.
For example, if we wanted to release a Towel Cape or a Panhandle helmet (NOTE: WE AREN’T!! THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE!), Paragon would not have to create an accompanying thematic power to “justify” the release of a Towel Cape or Panhandle helmet.
If you wanted to release a Towel Cape or Panhandle helmet, or whatever other costume pieces you can think up, you could just throw them in one of the issues and release them. I don't think anyone playing the game would complain if we got a bunch of random new costume pieces in an issue without a "theme" tying them together.
You're saying this because, as many predicted two years ago, you've moved further and further away from providing new costume pieces for free and in order to charge us for them, you have to "package" them.
So let's all be honest here - the last sentence of the above quote should read, "...Paragon would not have to create an accompanying thematic power to 'justify' [charging our customers for] a Towel Cape or Panhadle helmet." -
I'm sure some legbreaker from Marketing will be there to prevent them from giving us too much actual information.
I'm just hoping I can get a seat since the Game of Thrones panel doesn't let out until 4:00. -
Just posted on the SDCC website:

They've said extra character slots earned as Vet rewards will still be available to Premium players, so I don't see why other Vet rewards wouldn't. And if you're planning to maintain your subscription as a VIP player, there should be no effect whatsoever.

Seems like too much (dev) resource allocation for too little benefit to me.
-
I like - Poison for Controllers, and particularly Corruptors; and the apparent improvements(?) to Energy Aura.
I don't like - No Super Strength for Scrappers yet.
Everything else is OK, but probably won't get a lot of use from me based on what ATs and powersets I normally play. -
MVP ASSAULT is sorely lacking in representation of ice hockey. Surely you could work in a Slapshot or Body Checking power to represent the second most awesome sport in the world.

If a villain changes alignment to Rogue, can they still get Mayhem missions?
Quite possibly a dumb question, but I don't see it addressed specifically in the wiki. The wiki does say a Rogue can do Safeguard missions and a Vigilante can do Mayhems, so it's probably safe to assume that both middle ground alignments can access both Mayhem and Safeguard missions, but can someone confirm?
Thanks! -
Not yet. Still hoping for more info on...
...the Meet 'n Greet and how to get tickets to it.
...whether or not the team is doing a panel discussion, and if so, when.
...the possibility of David N. doing character sketches.
...whether there will be other new swag available for purchase (I'd love to add another new CoH shirt to my collection).
I thought I read something about David doing character sketches, but I can't find the info now. -
Quote:Then again, over the course of 1,000 years people will invent a whole bunch of new stuff for you to do/try/mess with/build new dreams around.
If anything, I think the hardest part would be adjusting your "old-timer" thinking to new technologies and ways of living.
Here's the thing though - if people stop procreating to avoid "over-population" would we become intellectually stagnant as a race?
If this had occurred 150 years ago, and as a result Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison and all the great minds of the 20th century had never been born, would society be as advanced as were are today or would we still be travelling in steam ships and steam locomotives?
If people had stopped aging and dying 1000 years ago, would we ever have made it out of the Dark Ages? -
It's probably already been suggested somewhere, but how about some sort of Incarnate Day Job similar to Vanguard Recruit? I don't know where the log-off point would be, but the benefit would be that anyone who had unclocked their Alpha Slot would earn a single Incarnate Shard, or Incarnate Thread, or whatever upon completing any mission. Earning a random Incarnate Component would propably be considered too generous.
Even earning a shard or thread would be a small boon to those who prefer to run solo, but still want to follow the Iincarnate path. -
Quote:Yeah, but some of those big areas of nothingness serve a purpose - rainforests for example are the planet's lungs, and places like the Great Plains would need to remain empty of people to grow food. When we have states with vast open areas of nothingness. Or just big countries, where there's miles and miles and miles of nothiness.
We're not close to over population.
Unless you're counting the areas were people bunch up and try to pack so many into a 2 mile radius.
As for talk of people having fewer children in general - while that may be true, think about it like this:
If the average American family today has two kids at age 25, and each of those kids have two kids at age 25, and so on, by the time the original two parents die at age 75, they will be partly responsible for fourteen decendants.
Now, in the future, lets say each family only has one child at age 25. By the time the original two parents die at say, age 1000, they will be partly responsible for 40 decendants. -
I recently stopped at my buddy's comic shop and when I took my books to the register, he said something like, "I guess I won't be getting rich off of you," because of the few books I had in my hands. I replied, "That's because most comic books these days suck."
The problem is all the unmanagable multi-part crossover money-grabs the major companies do these days. Does more than two months pass at Marvel or DC where there isn't some "universe-wide" crisis that affects half the titles they publish? If you can't get people to buy the low-selling books, change the creative team or cancel the book.
Ironically it was probably the most successful universe-altering and continuity-fixing miniseries of all time that lead to this mess - Crisis on Infinite Earths. That was my jumping-on point to a lot of DC titles in the '80s and while I have followed some of their books off-and-on since then, I think this "lets restart everything at issue 1" deal is going to be my jumping-off point.
These days I mainly read independant titles like Irredemable, and the recently wrapped Echo. -
No. I prefer more realistic size weapons.
In fact, I'd love it if they reworked Archery to make the arrows more in proportion to the characters. -
I'll be going, probably on Saturday, but I'm only 50 miles up the road from Baltimore, so it'll be a day trip for me.

Quote:Isn't it kind of counterproductive for a Brute to slow the pace of incoming attacks? Wouldn't that be detrimental to building fury?I'm looking at a solo SS/Will Brute...geared mostly for "fun with KB" but want decent survivability still
the recharge debuff would help a little bit, assuming its effective...I'm not really worried about one on one's yet....most of the time I get down to a single boss, I'm good...haven't started thinking about gearing for AVs (she's 20 right now) -

So if they can be used to unlock the Mastermind AT and VIPs already have access to the MM AT, does that mean that players who aren't paying a subscription will be earning, or able to purchase, Paragon Reward Tokens?

For the uninformed, like me, how is this different/better than just bookmarking the Paragonwiki page on your smartphone?

Honest question - other than saving the inf associated with converting shards to threads, how would this help anything? Unless the drop rate for threads is a lot higher than the drop rate for shards, it's going to take just as long for a solo player to get enough. And the inf associated with the conversion is probably a secondary consideration given how many mobs you'd need to kill to get all those shards/threads.
