CoH Freedom.. Buy Vet rewards?
I don't think we know with certainty, yet.
They have said that paid subscriptiosn will earn Paragon Points to spend. Presumably that spend will be able to go towards what were previously vet rewards, and maybe some other similar options, and likely a variety of other things beyond any supposition I can make.
It will be interesting to see how it is structured.
Paragon Points are not the same thing as Paragon Reward Tokens.
There is no way to ignore the Paragon Reward Tokens you'll receive for having played umpteen years. Check the other scenarios I proposed
![]() Just to clarify something... Paragon Points are spent in the Paragon Market (mtx store). In other words: You give Paragon money = We give you points (this is outside of the 400 pts included in the VIP Subscription of course) Paragon Reward Tokens are used to unlock nifty rewards and are granted much like the system currently known as the Veteran Rewards Program (it's a complete revamp/improvement of said system). One of these things you'll be able to unlock (your choice, it's a pretty flexible system) is the MM AT. |

Thanks, Forbin.
See, that's what I get for skimming a bunch of posts and trying to translate it all.
If we're able to purchase vet rewards, it'll be powers/costumes only, not badges.

So if they can be used to unlock the Mastermind AT and VIPs already have access to the MM AT, does that mean that players who aren't paying a subscription will be earning, or able to purchase, Paragon Reward Tokens?

As long as the badges are still earnableow.

It was stated in a Ustream chat last week that you will not be able to purchase Veteran Reward badges (only the perks), but the "badges will continue to be earnable in game," with no other real word beyond that.

Hey All,
I've read a few threads about Freedom but I didn't see an answer to this so I'm going to ask here, will we be able to buy Vet rewards (like no Travel preReq. or Nemesis Staff, ect. ect.) with Points? There are a few I would just outright like to buy (the ones mentioned above and others) if it was possible since I got into CoH later then a lot of folks and I am paying every month (and will continue too). Thanks! |
So the new system works something like this.
Each month you are subscribed as a VIP you earn 1 Paragon Reward Token.
These tokens have a counter so if you have earned 6 and spent 6 the system still knows you have earned 6.
At various levels of total tokens earned you gain automatic benefits. For example the Tier 5 reward at around 3 years [probably 33 tokens] is unlocking the Master Mind class permanently on your account without the need to spend any Paragon Points or reward tokens to do so.
So we know that we earn tokens that can be cashed in for various rewards. We don't know what the individual rewards are yet.
We know that there is a second stage of the Paragon Rewards system where having earned a certain number of tokens you gain automatic benefits. These are called tiers. At a guess Tier 1 = 3 tokens, tier 2 = 6 tokens, etc. Probably matches closely to the major steps in the current Vet rewards program.

A) Spend Paragon Points to unlock an AT such as Mastermind.
B) Wait until you have reached the appropriate Paragon Rewards Tier. Tier 5 for Masterminds and get it for free.
So if you are bouncing in and out regularly between Premium and VIP you might go ahead and spend $5 - $10 to have constant access to the AT. But if you are subscribed and expect to stay subscribed you can just wait for it to automatically be unlocked and then if you are poor and have to drop back to Premium you will just have it.

Which ones? We don't know yet.
My guess would be costumes for sure, powers almost certainly.
Weird stuff like skipping the travel power prereq; I have no clue.

ANd I recall a dev mentioning somewhere (think it was Positron) MMs and (presumably) Controllers will unlock automatically after you have X amount of rewards tokens - you don't have to spend them.

Which doesn't, necessarily, say that you don't have use rewards tokens to get it (as the tokens are free).

CLARIFICATION about Masterminds (and Controllers): Zwill said that you can choose to unlock MM and Controllers with your Paragon Reward tokens. This is INCORRECT. MM and Controllers are automatically unlocked when you have accumulated enough Paragon Reward Tokens (for existing veterans it's around 3 years). You don't even need to spend these Reward tokens to get the unlock. Of course, you can always unlock them early by buying them on the Paragon Market. |

YUMMY Low-Hanging Fruit for BASE LUV

If you are VIP, you get all the ATs as part of being VIP.
But MM's and Trollers are available to VIP's at any time correct? we just dont get them if we are not paying as a new account?
|
Second Question: If a VIP, who hasn't unlocked those AT's by way of buying them early or by way of having an account active long enough to get them unlocked for free, switches to a Premium account will be unable to make any new characters using those AT's and he will also find that any characters he made using those AT's are locked until he either pays to unlock them or he upgrades his account back to VIP status.
So.... here's a big question (but you have to wait for it a bit). Some time back, there was a glitch where a lot of people got access to Veteran Rewards that they hadn't normally earned. I was one of them (got bumped something like a year and a half up), and when I sent in a ticket notifying them of the glitch, I was told (paraphrasing) "Thanks for letting us know you were affected. Yeah, we know about the problem, and we're not going to take the rewards you earned through the glitch away."
I assume then, that when F2P goes live, that my 'amount of time subscribed' will be based upon my current (glitched) total. Does anyone know if the Devs have said, one way or the other, if this is going to be the case?
They said that anyone who got glitched--which was in actuality done via running a script to replace the original one, which had a habit of keeping the original subscribers from receiving their rewards without submitting bug tickets--and benefited from it was free to keep that as a gift.
So I highly doubt it'll get taken away a year and change later.
