  1. DM

I currently have an EM/SR brute at 50 with a fair amount of IOs, softcapped to all positions and I want to scrap her. I think SR is great, but EM is really not a hot set anymore. The attacks are v e r y s l o w. I find the lack of AoE irritating, and you can do some pretty good dmg to yourself based on using energy transfer whenever it is up. I personally wouldn't pair EM with a secondary that has no +heal or healing component.

DM has everything that complements SR very well; a heal, more -accuracy, quick attacks that benefit more from quickness's recharge and more. I think I will likely re-roll my EM/SR as DM/sr simply because DM is so much better than EM right now.

Basically, the nerf really put EM out of being a top level performer to an instant bottom feeder. I would discourage you from playing it unless you have some great concept or just are curious.

    fire/fire

I only had room for one in my build, and I went with fiery embrace. Accuracy is not really am issue, and the +dmg is stonger and longer with FE vs BU. When I had both it was good, but I still feel good without BU.

I don't feel squishy with my fire/fire brute either. If you build up enough recharge and + def and+ hp thru IOs, and with tough and maybe weave, you won't feel weak. With just SOs, you may feel a tad off, but that is why IOs are here- they can make any toon super.

    Cold or FF?

I like the utility of cold moreso than FF. It has more mitigational tools in my opinion, and offers more bang for the buck in my opinion. The only thing I prefer in FF more is the look as it doesn't obstruct/cause issues with graphics.

I have played a /ff troller to 50 and a cold dom corr to lvl36 or so, and find that cold buffer seems to pack more punch and utility at nearly any given level.
  4. For my play style, I decided the immob+ burn was better than darkest night. I would rather kill stuff faster than have it sticking around with lower -acc and to hit slowly killing me.

Personally, I went with Mace mastery because I like the look of the mace and that immob.
  5. I don't exactly see a question in there, but the bottom line is that it takes a while to learn things about this game. It isn't something you just pick up and a week later you have mastered every aspect of it. Be patient, learn the ropes, and take your time. There is no rush to anything; unless of course, you make it into a rush situation.

If you are really all that disappointed in the game and don't see anything good coming of it, perhaps you should just cut your losses and move on. Life is short, and there is no reason to be involved in anything as trivial as a game if you aren't enjoying yourself.
  6. Great guide. I am actually thinking of rolling a new brute, but I might just roll a fire/sr as these are two of my favorites sets. Minor nitpick (and it isn't even technical) just change The Roll of the Scrapper to The Role of the Scrapper.

Very well written and it certainly packs a lot of information that sold me on the viability of this combo.
  7. It's a nice site. Good work. Too bright and hero-y for me though
  8. Even though your attacks feel quick, there is certainly no harm in maximizing your recharge for healing flames and more attacks. After all, the quicker you kill something, the less you have to worrya about it killing you. And 70% recharge is 70% recharge.

So I see you have discovered the joy of patron immobs and burn.

As far as the respec TF, just hang around in Cap for a min and maybe advertise your interest in respec and you will find one. Also, be sure to change your LF flag to the yellow SF symbol and plug a line in about respec.

    Brute or Tank?

    [ QUOTE ]
Thanks for the feedback. It really isn't about Tank v. Brute, but which would be more satisfying as a damage dealer. I have to tell you, I hate Fury. Forever to build up, instantly cools, but oh well.

I'll tell you what though, if the devs ever make SS a Scrapper set, they'll have me for life (Guys? You reading this? ).

    [/ QUOTE ]
I never have an issue building fury, it certainly never takes forever to build, and the cooling isn't a problem so long as you keep fighting. If you are used to playing a tank with regular pauses between mobs, sure you may have a less satisfying experience with fury, but even then, you still are dealing solid damage.
  10. I, for one, think super strength has to be the least visually stimulating animation of any set in the game. I vote for Dual Blades paired with Fiery aura. Maybe even some energy melee if you like cheering your enemies to death.
  11. Those Romans have some pretty nasty -defense debuffs, so it iis best to spread your mitigation out over different areas. Resistance is a strong point there, so maybe carry some oranges at the start and pop one when you see stuff going down hill.
  12. As someone else posted in another thread: just because your question is answered is no reason to delete your post. The info might help another user in the future.
  13. Jaysun- get hasten! Aside from the fact that it rhymes with your name, +recharge is a fiery aura's best friend. It makes your tools like healing flames and consume available more often and increases your survivability.

Seeing as your worst enemy is -recharge, I would drop Acrobatics and grab temperature protection. There are easily enough IO options out there to help you deal with kb without blowing a power choice and adding more end drain to your build. Temperature protection will add more resistance to your build and also add some slow protection.
  14. Damnit, I had every intent to get here and insert some clever colloquialism of some sort, but I was beaten to the punch.

In short, no one knows exactly what it will mean for the game. If you go by a dictionary type definition, it means you are defecting to an allegiance outside of the one in which you are aligned.
    Stay tuned!
  15. What a coincidence- I have a DB/INV brute with a similar story. Except she is a fallen angel who cut her way out of the monotony of grace and never looked back.
  16. Just decide if you want to be a hero or if you want to be a villain. Seems simple enough. Or, just make both. Though with Rogue looming in the horizon, I suppose this may not be as cut and dry.
  17. Fa/fm is a real hoot to play. I am not sure of your build, but if you don't have fighting pool, I would pickup both tough and weave. Some don't advocate the use of weave, but I find it is a great place to slot a LotG rech IO at the very least. My fiery brute is my favorite to play as well.

I agree with Rowley- picking up an immobilizer from epic pool is great. You never realize how hot Burn is until you are cooking mobs that are simply unable to run away. I fully advocate cranking the heat up and cooking everything that gets in your way... haha

    Brute or Tank?

Do you want a hero or a villain? That seems to be the question.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
Pure def sets can be explained in one word. That word is an actual name of a power in the /SR set, that word is part of the name of a popular deffense IO set, and that word is the base name for an inspiration. That word is "Luck". The whole concept of def is the % "chance". There is a "chance" you can be in the last battle on lrsf and not get touched and there is a "chance" you can get one shotted buy a NPC hero in a bank mission. Granted, those two examples are on the extreme of both ends. All I'm saying is one person can easily have issues using the same set another person considers to be easy mode. Some people say widows are too powerful. My widow has soft cap "all" def with mind link up. I still get dropped at times leaving me thinking wth? Def sets are a roll of the dice, a draw of the card, a pull of the slot machine. In other words, all about luck. Some have bad luck and some have good luck.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I think this is a great explanation. You really are just playing with probability and luck. I have a /SR brute that is above soft capped that I love at times and sometimes I just want to delete her. Sometimes I ITF and barely get scratched. The other day, I had a particularly rough run and got one shotted (essentially) by a cyst with my team surrounding me.
One of the team members was a widow with nice buffs, and another was a shield brute running some nice numbers. My defense numbers were well above 100% for positional and past 45% for typed. Regardless, I was still struck down. I suppose it is the game you play with a set that is entirely defense based. (Yes, I am aware of the scaling HP resistance power, and I have it, but if you have a lone HP remaining after a devastating strike, that won't help much.)

Defense based sets are on the unpredictable side still, and there doesn't seem to be much that can be done about that without breaking the game in favor of /SR.

    DB and Gloom

Wasn't it made clear by a developer that redraw has no affect on attack timing? I thought that the only drawback to redraw was aesthetic.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Wasn't it clear, that by the very nature of the question posted, that it was not clear to the op?

    [/ QUOTE ]
I stated in my post that I believed the only drawback to redraw was aesthetic (as far as I know).

  22. Dark Melee is great, but not so much in the Aoe department.
  23. I agree with Smurpy. Both of those sets do well because of the great +damage components in both. I haven't played a shields to a high enough level and had it io'd, but I can tell you from a /fire that I ITF with regularly Fiery aura does well there. You melt enemies really quickly. With judicious use of an immobilizer from a patron pool, you can make a great tool out of burn. I am not a big fan of SS, but most agree that it does well enough.

Shields does have to worry more about defense debuffs being tossed about, but the + damage component is there as well. Plus, you would be granting some nice team buffs.
  24. I have an inv brute that stays in flight most of the time. I know it may not be very efficient, but it fits the theme. Plus, I think toons look odd if they have veteran wings, but choose not to take flight.

Anywho, I do have a related question. As I mentioned, I took flight and air superiority and skipped hover in my current build. I know that flight travel speed is suppressed while in combat to hover speed, but am I also granted the def bonus from hover while doing this? If I am not, I might just respec into hover and out of air sup simply for a bit more defense.

    Dual Blades

That is good advice, just make sure you still are near a mob. Otherwise, you have to start from scratch. The only part that is frustrating about DB is not finishing combos. If you miss an attack in the chain or the window closes before you use the next attack, you have to go back. I suppose it isn't that bad really, because you are still cutting your enemies into ribbons though.
