Or, just introduce two new servers with Going Rogue: Loyalty and Resistance.

Quote:This is the part I don't get. Do people really make that many copies of the same character (I could see on two or three, but all of them?), or do they do this just for the sake of uniqueness? Future server transfers? The practice seems a bit...hoggish.3) A lot of Hero-Con / forum posters are long-term CoH/V players who typically don't want to see the status quo changed. They like having a unique name on their server (and sometimes on every server).
Overall I don't think there's really that much of a problem, though I've not made too many new characters recently. A few past conflicts were worked around pretty easily; Blue Agave --> Blue-Agave, Blue Blazes --> Blu Blazes (which I like better now anyway), Liquid Gold --> Oro Liquido (I agree that language variation is a good option). Some other names I've used for are dictated by theme; if it's an odd theme, unlikely to run into problems.
The "Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)" idea is an interesting one, if it could be done only when a conflict arises and not at other times. Even if it's just "Green Lantern (I)/Green Lantern (II)". I have no idea what coding such a thing would entail (not only teams, but would you have to check each time someone entered a zone? What about the market?) -
Quote:Hrm...a Turkey Invasion could be interesting. Or maybe that would be a little too Cloudy w/Meatballs.I just saw a zombie with a pilgrim's hat so I just figured they had turned it into a Thanksgiving Event.
*shrug*
edit: though I think turkeys with powers like Gravy Slick and Rain of Giblets might be pretty neat -
If that's what you want to spend time working towards, sure, it's worth it. I'd certainly do it if I wanted to play my 50s rather than different characters. Gives you something else to strive for. I could see putting together all the pieces as something like putting together a collection - some satisfaction with each piece acquired. I do this with normal sets on my way to 50, I would see this as the next step - a chance to keep building a character. Do you *need* to? Nah, of course not - you're already at or near 50. You don't need to do anything. But you have that option.
-
Yeah, the gamma is a little high on that, but otherwise that's not that far off from what CoH looks like on the computer I played on my first three years (it looks considerably better on my newer box).

Quote:Someday, somewhere, SOMEONE will finally get one of these summoning rituals right. If you click on the little blue "i" in your nav window, in addition to explaining how the event works, you also get some lore about the event, something to do with a Circle of Thorns summoning ritual gone wrong. (Hey, I said a backstory, not a good backstory.)
I like the zone event; it's something new, has a bit of a different dynamic and a bit of a sense of urgency. And I solo most of the time so it's nice to be part of a collaborative effort that I really don't have to be that invested in. But, I could see it getting stale pretty quickly.
I would like to see a few more comic-booky zone events though (Rikti are kinda like that) rather than supernatural ones. Maybe ones that aren't zone specific and are less predictable (with the programming involved, I realize this may be tough to do) to rotate in with the standard events (Troll Rave, Hellion fires, Paladin construction, Scrappy, Deathsurge, etc).
I wouldn't even mind something formulaic like the newspaper missions, if it had enough variety. Supervillain X and group Y are attacking zone Z! Go get 'em! (for some reason I'm envisioning an army of carnies here, but could be 5th, could be DE, could be Nemesis, could be Malta...) -
I usually roll in whatever range I'm in until the higher levels, where I roll at 35-39 (unless I'm in a 10-14 mood). I unwittingly hoarded some merits on my Dom (at 45 now), I was up over 90 before rolling a few lately. Rolled a Devastation proc (which I needed), a Lady Grey (boo) and a Zephyr KB protection (woooo!). Keeping the last one as I need those on a couple toons.
-
Don't make them faction-specific, just make them give larger/additional bonuses if you are "pure" on either side.
-
It's been stated that there will be a perk for those staying Heroic/Villainous, but no further info on it. I'd have to imagine it would be fairly good if that's a decision that precludes a character from experiencing a large chunk of content. Extra slot(s)? Combat bonuses? Enhancements that are only slottable by the two extremes (reminds me of the old MUD days where equipment would zap off of you if you weren't in the range for it)?
The price disparities and shortages...are these more pronounced on things like purples rather than other recipes? I solo on both sides, and I haven't had *that* much more difficulty outfitting my villains than heroes, though I don't deal with the extremes (purples, LoTG, etc). Without any sort of farming or more involved marketeering (I don't play my 50s much, I get there then move to another character), I figure they're largely out of reach anyway (if I don't happen to luck upon one here or there). I tend to carry more money on my villains too, fwiw.
edit: I'd also probably need a semi-compelling story reason personally to want to switch sides or even wind up in the middle. After all, if I wanted to play red or blue content, I'd just do so on a character I already made on that side. If I want, say, a MM blue-side badly enough, I'll just roll one in Praetoria and become a hero. -
So Praetoria goes from being the Crime Syndicate of America to the Justice Lords. I can deal with that.
Wasn't it stated in one of the panels that Emperor Cole's country wasn't the only one in Praetoria (possible I misheard this)? The DE couldn't form any sort of country, could it? -
My only beef with this ToT season was going around PI solo with my lvl 43 DB/WP, then opening one door and having about a dozen level 52 mobs pop out, with no sign of anyone else around. Unless there was a stealth or SS hero doing a drive-by, I have no idea what happened there.
Ok, I do have one other beef. I was fighting a Vampire Lord boss (I think that's what it was) and had him down on health. He high-tails it down the block and I give chase. Before I can catch him to finish him off, he runs into one of the doors and disappears. Wuss. -
Things mentioned that I too have never done, and some maybe that haven't been:

I'd never been on the Test Server before I16. -
Quote:Yes yes on Gail Simone...that would be great.Bill Willingham? That's really cool. I've never checked out Fables, but I really liked Shadowpact. Definitely will run that as soon as I'm on, probably with a dark defender who gets some inspiration from his take on Nightshade. I'm looking forward to running the current and future Guest Author arcs.
Where do I send my contribution to the Gail Simone Writes An Arc Fund?
Willingham is also on the new JSA writing team, along with his regular collaborator Matt Sturges (reminds me, I am WAY behind on House of Mystery). I wonder if a Sturges arc could follow... -
You know who I've never had pop up as a contact? Arbiter Rein (hit 40 on a villain for the third time the other day, no notification). Had the darnedest time trying to find out what to do about the patrons the first time I had to do it (thank goodness for the wiki).

Quote:Ahh, so *that's* where that one is. That's the one I was referring to above, I just thought it came earlier in the game. At that point, you really shouldn't need to get any better acquainted with Skyway, really.I was doing Ouroboros arcs a while back for the badges on my namesake; one of the preferred arcs was the "Revenant Hero Project" by Gordon Stacy.
In the middle of the arc, he has you see Jake Montoya and deliver a CD to someone else in the middle of the zone, then GO BACK to the other person.
While this wouldn't be so bad, it's annoying with the "No Travel Powers" enabled, fair enough. -
I'll cop to doing this on occasion, though it's usually a case of catching up on a thread, replying to something, then replying to something else later in the thread (maybe a couple of pages later) before anyone else posts anything.

Quote:I just did that one on one of my characters...pretty pointless. I don't think this takes the cake for annoying though - I'd give that to Mark Freeman (pretty sure it's him). I think he gives a mission where you have to take a bunch of CDs to Jake Montoya (?) WAAAAYYYY across Skyway...and then Jake gives you something to take back. There was one notably annoying mission, 'Take Ledger to Carla Brunelli'.
She's in Skyway and your last mission was in Steel- a bit annoying to call your contact and then have to hoof it back to Skyway anyway, for no real reason (a scant paragraph of dialog), only to be sent on a GIANT hunt mission in Perez.
Another annoying thing in this range; I have a level 12, but she is has all of the level 5-10 contacts active...because they all want her to see scenic Boomtown. -
A new set of "Praetorian" starting ATs (with yes, Incarnate epics), including one that provides a customizable sidekick.
New powersets/proliferation for existing ATs. -
Got an ambush of snakes yesterday after picking up a "defeat 5" mission from Mongoose. Ambush didn't show up until after I defeated my first snake (that came after a few skulls). When it did come, it was 5-6 of them, with at least one lt. I tried, but it was too much for my Earth/Earth level 7 dom. This was with the starting difficulty unchanged.
At least it wasn't the dozen DE I had ambush my Mind/Kin in Perez one time (ages ago). That was fun, with all the emanators negating half my power effects.
The Serge mission...yeah. I've had 2, but another time I had like 15 (first time I ran it, years ago).
edit: I remember a really crazy one returning to a contact in Steel Canyon - again on the Mind/Kin - in one of the Tsoo arcs. Tsoo just kept coming in waves. Got some support help from a passer-by in that one, but eventually it was just too much. -
I noticed this too while exemplared to team with my son. /bugged it.

My Mind/Kin has a rather bold blue/lime/yellow costume, and I redid his powers in a blue-green (which wasn't far from standard for the kin powers).
I have an Ill/TA where I tinted things red. I ended up scaling things back a little though, as the red was a little much on spectral wounds w/o a little white. I also tweaked Phantom Army, as I liked the dark palette for their costumes, but didn't like it for their powers (didn't know it carried over).
My son made a Grav/FF with purple colors, it looks good. I'll have to go through each of my grav/storm's five costumes (same costume, different colors) to tweak those.
I'm using Earth on a dom too, and really like my blue and orange crystals.
