I'd like to second this. In fact, I think I posted this same idea several years ago, but I don't mind supporting someone else's proposal.

Anyway, the plain grey buttons we have now are pretty drab. Having 3 or 4 colors to choose from, and 3 or 4 abstract symbols (think playstation controller symbols) would be the cat's meow.

Suggestion: This could be easily (well, relatively easy ) added to the current context menu (right-click to get the Edit Macro). Bonus points for: adding a menu item to pop-up a blank Macro Edit menu, and adding the same pop-up if /macro is entered on the chat line with no parameters.

Further GUI thoughts: My list of powers is getting pretty insane. My temp powers are ridiculously long, and I keep acquiring more other types of powers too. The vertical scroll for that menu is out of control.

Could a similar pop-up menu be added that shows the same sort of powers, but perhaps with tabs to break out the different power categories (primary / secondary / pool / inherent / temporary / etc.), and also use a larger font so I can read them easier.

Bonus points: Add a save/load feature for remembering how powers are placed in a tray. This would make respecs much easier. Have it remember my macros too.

I like the last idea as well.

What I'm trying to do by suggesting a 50/50 split in the current auction houses is avoid requiring the devs to spend the resources making a second room. It takes time for someone to build the geometry, test it, and get all the NPCs working correctly. Time that could be better spent on geometry for game play instead.

Adding power suppression to some of the existing auction houses, or Bill's suggesting to add a Market rep to bases, probably takes less resources.

And I also agree that there's a lot of pointless griping, immaturity and even personal attacks in this thread. Everybody should just take a big breath, and if your tempted to post something irate, just don't post at all.
  4. Interesting. I also don't care for having to retoggle after visiting the Praet. trading house. It's annoying and not really much fun. I also agree that it's OK to make a quick stop sometimes with everything running, I do it often myself.

However I do empathize somewhat with folks who don't care for people "rocking the aura" constantly at the various auction houses.

    May I propose a compromise?

Take *some* of the auction houses and add power suppression. Leave others alone for those who want to make a "quick stop" or who don't care about auras and such like.

For example, Talos and Atlas Park are traditionally more busy because of all the traffic in those zones. Leave those alone for "quick stops." Add power suppression to the WW in Steel Canyon and King's Row. SC is close to the University, so it's quiet for folks who are actually crafting. KR is ... well no reason, just trying to split it 50/50.

Same with Black Market. Leave the BM in Mercy and Cap alone. Cap is the main "grand central station" redside. And for crafting I know there's an Abandoned Lab close to St. Martinal BM, I use it often. So the the BM in St. Mart could be used by people who what peace and quiet and want to actually craft. Sharkhead BM is ... again just Shark. Trying to split things 50/50 again.

    Just a thought....

    Widows as Heroes

I have a level 37ish Fortunata in Paragon City and everything seems to work fine, no issues. I haven't actually tried to level her up at 24, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. As the other have said, you're really just picking pre-determined menu items off a list. The actual type of trainer doesn't seem to matter.

This is what I'm saying, I think. The "mile high" view doesn't work. The RNGs are typically implemented with linear congruential generators, and they can show strong coupling from one value to the next. Once the internal value gets loaded with ones, or zeroes, it tends to produce high or low values for a while until it gets sorted out again.

From "one mile up" this looks fine, because the LCG does get sorted out. From the stand point of individual rolls -- true randomness, that the next value is independent of the previous value -- it doesn't always work as well.

Not sure what could be done about this but I'd love to have some communication from the devs about it. Primarily, I'd guess that their RNG code is proprietary and they won't show us. But maybe there's other stuff they could do.

Also not crazy about the music. Seems like the hired the house band and asked them "What can you whip up in a day, or less?" But the animation seemed cool. I just love how influential Batman TAS and JLU were, everyone is trying to be like them now.

But why are people linking to bad intros? Why not link to a good one?
  8. I totally agree with this. The RNG seems to be missing its R. I'd love it if the devs would talk to us about how it works, or at least agree to double check it and make sure everything is kosher.

I haven't had as bad luck as some of the folks in this thread, but there's been plenty of times when I notice a long streak of misses, for example. And I normally have the combat logs open or I monitor "Last Chance To Hit," so I know if I've been debuffed or not.

    Welcome to the game!

What server are you on, and what times do you play? It will make a difference.

Praetoria kind of encourages solo play. You can team up just fine, of course, but the missions are rather all about you and what choices you make, so a lot of folks just do their own thing. Thus you don't see tons of teams forming up.

That the game is instanced and also that Atlas Park is the most populated starting zone has already been mentioned. If you picked a very low pop server, though, even Atlas Park won't have a ton of folks, and if you play off hours, well.... I'd go to the Server forums (on these forums here) and say "hi" on your server forum, and ask about populations and teaming and such. Get some advice how your server works.

The server list (when you log in) goes from least populated on the top to most populated on the bottom (usually Virtue and Freedom are at the bottom). So if you picked the first server on the list, you've got the least population server. Try something closer to the bottom. Don't be afraid to try out several servers and see which you like the best.

I agree with Zombie Man that this should not be happening. Pop on the forums for your server, make some friends and ask for help. You're probably doing a couple of specific things wrong.

Try to get some solid advice before burning through all your respecs though, it can be easy to go off half cocked. See if someone will plan a build out for you. Some advice on tactics and slotting might help too.

    Welcome!

Far from dead. High population server like Freedom and Virtue always have folks on. Medium pop servers are still very active, and at peak times like last Sunday evening all of the servers had their load levels "into the yellow." I play on Champion, a medium population server, and even during the day Mon-Fri there's people getting raids together and running good Tip teams and such. Good times.

Find the server forums, pop in, say hi, make some friends and find out what is going on. Most servers have global channels and schedule events that are open to everyone. Once you get active on the server channels and on the forums, your opportunities to team, raid and in general do stuff go up dramatically.
  12. I really like my level 50 Bots/FF. With Alpha slotting and Power Boost, I can soft cap a teammate from 0. I think I'm at 44% right now. As soon as the Strike Pack hits, I expect to be past 45%.

Those little bubbles are a big convenience too. Folks don't have to huddle under your Dispersion Bubble to have a good amount of Def. They can head off and have the Def anywhere they want.

Traps is still an excellent set, just not quite as +Def friendly as FF. Traps is great solo or small teams with a ranged MM set, because all the pets almost automatically group under the FFG's bubble.

But FF can be a force multiplier on small teams too, if you take some of the trickier powers in the FF set. With two builds now, it's easier to maintain a small team and a large team build.
  13. Just make sure to skip the "chest protector" on the male (it's an optional costume piece). They look really silly on men. I think just the regular costume pattern on the males look fine.

Thanks for the port numbers. He says his boss knows about it and is OK with it, I think we can give him a break from the legal eagle department.
  15. I don't think this can be done.

If work has *every* port blocked, how can you contact the proxy? You might be able to do it with a machine inside the fire wall, and one outside too, but I don't know how to set this up other than custom programming on both.

Does anyone know what port(s) CoH uses?

Yeah. That's what I'm saying. If you choose the recipes rolls that cap at 30, you get a level 30 recipe. It says "20-30 Recipe Rolls" right on it (or something like that, I don't remember the lower number for sure).

This is what I was talking about, the H/V Merit purchase. If I set the slider to level 11, and then purchase a Celerity: Stealth recipe, I get a level 11 recipe, right? I haven't actually tried this myself yet, but I understood that was the way it worked.

If you choose to roll (20 Reward Merits for 1 recipe, or 1 H/V merit for 8 recipes)...

The last guy to use a reward roll at Crucible/FT asked "Did I just rip myself off?" and everyone answered "Yes!" so I wasn't considering reward rolls at C/FT. It doesn't seem like a good idea.

    Quote:
AE rolls work the same as Reward Merit rolls, only with different drop pools. Bronze roll are the recipes that normally drop from enemies.

Just to clarify, my level 50 gets level 30 bronze recipes all the time at the AE. If you pick the right reward roll, that's what you get. Not sure what else everyone was imagining. If you don't get a level 30 recipe, check that you are using the right level range for the reward roll.

    Quote:
This is not true. At a University, Abandoned Lab, Portable Workbench or SG base Crafting station, you can buy common IO recipes at any level you want (if you have the inf and free Recipe slot).

It's bee a while since I bought common recipes at the University, so I'm sure I loused this up. Mea culpa.
  18. Purchase where?

The Crucible/Fort Trident has a slider you can set the recipe to the level you want. This is kinda counter-intuitive imo since you actually have to use this slider to see recipies outside your level. E.g., for a level 50, you won't see recipes that max out at level 40 or 30, even though they are available. You have to use the slider to "scan" the recipe levels to see what is there.

At the AE, you get reward rolls for some recipes in level ranges. Level 20 - 30 range for Bronze recipes is a popular choice. You get the recipe in that range, regardless of your level.

I can't think of too many other recipe purchases. At the University (or abandoned lab) I think you only can buy recipes of your level. Not sure though.
  19. Dark Gob is right on, it's F9. Just don't press that and you're good.
  20. Hmm, several of the Function keys (F1, F2, etc.) will do things like this. F7 is "Ready" and F9 is "Wait" and F10 is "Battle cry!" but I haven't seen the "LFT" one yet. Let me check it out.

What you should put in your team comment is "Trial Account, just invite" because Trial Accounts are greatly restricted in their ability to send messages to other players. You can't reply if someone asks if you want to join a team. But if you don't want to team with other folks, just your friend, then your current comment is fine.
  21. Yeah I have a Microsoft mouse too, and it has the same problem. Microsoft uses different values than everybody else, for the codes they send for mouse wheel scrolling, so their mice often don't work as well as you'd expect.

Just use the keyboard buttons Home and End for zoom, it's what I do.

    Best duo?!

The problem with "the best combo" is there are so many of them. Really, you should play what tickles your fancy. It'll probably be just fine, and you'll have fun. Don't think that any one power set is required to play. All of the sets are good and you can play any of them with success.

That said, some ideas do occur to me:

    Villain Side:
    --------------
    2 Masterminds, of any sort.

1 Mastermind, plus one of anything else.

    1 Thugs/Traps mastermind, 1 Thugs/Thermal mastermind.

    1 Dark/Invul Brute, 1 Fire/Rad Corruptor

    2 Veats, of any sort

2 Crab Spiders in particular would be strong.

    Hero Side:
    ------------

    1 Invul/Dark Tanker, 1 Fire/Empathy Controller

    1 Fire/Shield Scrapper, 1 Dark/Dark Defender
  23. The content being added right now doesn't seem like something that would mesh well with F2P. I think it will be at least two years, and only then if CoH takes a big hit in population numbers and can't recover.

All the newest TFs and other content all feel like something which encourages paid subscriptions, rather than micropayments. I saw Champions Online add stuff to their store for quite a while (nearly a year) before they went F2P. I assume any MMO game would be similar.
  24. Hmm, not sure. I run CoH from the Program Files director:

    "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\cohupdater.exe"

You might want to check and see if you have a copy there, the updater may have installed things differently than you think.

Otherwise: What other symptoms do you see? Does the down load restart? It shouldn't, there should be a quick check and then a license agreement to click through.

If you are really unsure of your new settings, try starting in Safe Mode, which is a minimum settings & resolution mode so you can get back into the game and tweak stuff.

That's about all I got. Try posting in the Technical Issues forums, those guys are pretty smart and can spot problems quickly.

Oh, the obvious would be for you to post your system stats. OS version, video card, memory, video driver, etc. It'll help get things started.
