Mama, life has just begun
But now I've gone and thrown it all away -
Quote:I felt like that too... for a long time. You just have to do as Psychoti said and jump in. Teaming really does add so much to the game. In fact, before I started joining (and eventually starting) my own teams, I really did feel like quitting. Despite the fact that I saw ENORMOUS potential in creating fun characters.I'm not a huge fan of working in teams because honestly, since I feel like I don't know what I'm doing, I'm going to let the other players down and even though its an MMO and we're all basically strangers, well... it still stinks for me.
I am a lot like you in that I enjoy making the character and his story as much if not more than actually playing the game. Another thing that might keep ya going is to try and get involved in a light RP team. Check your server's forum for things that are going on or join a global channel or two. -
Quote:This. It really boils down to a preference thing. Neither is far and away superior to the other.
Not really. I don't see how any AT will become obsolete. People will still play them all, I am sure. And as such, they will still get invited to do things. In fact, some might (this is kinda crazy) NOT invite villain ATs because they are used to playing with hero ATs and fear the "unknown." Personally? I hate to team with MMs. They are great ATs, and fun to play, but having the pets all over the damn place drives me batty. That is why I solo with mine.
Sooooo, it all comes down to preference. Both that of the playing of said ATs and of those who choose to invite one or the other. -
Ice/SS Tanker With cloven feet and ram horns, of course. SS so that he can have [Hoof Stomp].
Avalancher -
And as far as I am concerned... that means those characters are overpowerd. Doing that, should be impossible for un-teamed players.

Quote:I'll put this line first... because it wouldn't make sense to respond to it at the end. (Obviously, I have not dropped it. However, I still stand by what I said before that NONE of that post was intended to be mean-spirited.)Anyway, I'm dropping this now, and I hope you're willing to do the same.
Quote:There's no such thing as reverse sexism. I would think "reverse sexism" would mean not being sexist.
Quote:Also, the stuff I talked about? Stalkers harassing women? Happens far more often to women than men. Just being a woman playing a video game can often be enough to attract attention.
You misunderstood my criticism of Venture's use of statistics if you think I said any use of statistics was bad. What I said was that he's trying to use statistics to cloak the fact that this stuff happens, by pretending that it's okay to enable an increased amount of potential harassment and violence if it's a small amount, and implying that rather than one person being killed, maybe 1,000 people are each .1% murdered.
Quote:Also, my argument was not about the victimizability of women. It was about how some (NOT ALL <-- NEON ******* LETTERS) men often try to victimize women. Of course all men don't try to victimize women, and it's true that some women victimizes men, but in the context of video games? I've heard lots of stories about women being stalked and harassed. I've been stalked and harassed. I honestly have never heard about men being stalked and harassed by women in video games.
Quote:I wish people wouldn't say "I mean no offense" because that's usually out of your hands when you hit send, and usually the impulse to say it is the first sign you're about to step in something messy. Even so, I'm not offended by your complete misreading of my point, Thirty-Seven, I just wish you'd read more carefully before you decided to jump in with both feet.
Second, I said that, because I KNEW it was likely that you would read some sort of argument with you into my post that wasn't there. I agree with you! I just wanted to make it clear that a bit of gender neutrality would have actually STRENGTHENED your point. You do no one any service by only mentioning the victimization of women.
How did I misread anything? I read what was written, as it was written. If what you wrote, wasn't what you meant, either change it, or put a disclaimer on it. -
Quote:If you are going to try to plead your case, let it stand on it's own merit. Obliquely referencing the "victimizability" of women (whether intentional or not) is a bit obsurd. Men get stalked, men get harassed and men can certainly get murdered. Reverse sexism should be made obvious where it occurs, and I try to do so... likewise with heterosexism (though that is not an issue here). And don't give me the statistics shpeal... because you just went out of your way to decry Venture's use of same. But yet for some reason stalking still happens, women still get harassed, women still get murdered.
(Please note that I mean no offense by the above. It is stated bluntly so there is no misunderstanding about the content, not as an attempt to be a total d*****bag. Of course, you are free to label me as such if you wish.)

Thanks for the reply... but what about the "little stuff"? To me, announcing a brand new character IS "big news."

Bug fixes will occur as they always have: sporadically, unpredictably, and unfocused-ly (hey, it's a word now). And they tend to happen for weeks after each issue is released, YMMV.
Halting further progress until bugs are squished is a no-win game. After all, bug fixes sometimes CAUSE bugs. So even fixing the system could be breaking the system. It depends heavily on code. It also depends on things that haven't happened yet: i.e. if you fix something today, and change a system tomorrow that your fix depends on (in a different department and done by different people) you will have a NEW problem. On and on ad nauseum. -
No problem, it's been my pleasure... mostly. There is one annoying issue though: after I have been base editing for a while, my computer likes to crash. So, I have been having to log out and restart a lot. But, it is not insurmountable. I will endure! Hahaha

So cool that the secret new avatar David talked about has been revealed officially and not just hinted at in the ViDoc #2.
With regard to Noble Savage's origin and look: I think he looks friggin' sweet, and I am banking that he is related to Maelstrom in some way via the Power Core like others have positted. I can't see him being the Praetorian version of any of Primal Earth's characters... at least not any of the famous ones.
So agreed. And if they insist on Tweeting and Facebook-ing stuff... it really should be announced on the official forums for the game as well... and not just "go to Facebook" but an actual link to the information. -
Odd... I didn't think the minimum requirements to run the game changed a bit. Can't one simply turn off the new settings in Ultra?

Just a little reminder that we will be meeting up again tonight in the <see below> in... *looks at watch* 6ish hours.
[Edit: Jason has created a unique character (i.e. not an Operative) that will be our Super Leader, assuming that is cool with y'all, and he would like to show her (you read that right, Nyrisa) off. Also, Jason and I have done some work on the base... and would like to give you folks a quick tour of that as well. Sooooo, if we could all meet up in AP, that would be great.] -
Quote:The same reason other NPC pieces aren't available that fulfill those requirements? I don't see a problem here.Wait, wait, wait...
WHAT?!
Your telling me that back part was actually possible in game, didn't clip, didn't slip and fulfilled the back criteria a la capes and wings etc? And we STILL dont have it?
...Someone better have a DAMN good reason why this is still player locked, or so help me... -

Quote:1) I dunno that I have ever consciously tried. I haven't really ever stopped having fun long enough to think about what I am doing. But, I team a lot, that's fun. I just started in a static RP team with some in-game friends; I alt like crazy; I try to run different story arcs and contacts on each character I make (to the extent possible); I badge hunt and with that, am on a mission (still after 3 years) to run every TF/SF in the game to its completion at least once.1) How do you, oh veterans of City of Heroes, make the game feel fresh, or at least somehow continue scrounging up fun?
2) Do you have any suggestions as to how I can somehow make doing the same lower leveled content feel alright again (like, perhaps building a nifty A.E arc or something)?
3) Do you have any suggestions as to how I can make the City of Heroes experience feel more social, friendly, and more like an M.M.O.R.P.G rather than a mental abuse machine?
I create costumes! If I am feeling not like playing, which happens, I wander over to the Costume Re-Design Thread linked in my sig and help people come up with costumes and such.
2) I... don't understand the question. Really. I am still not sick of the low level content. I am not sure how. Due to my alting, I have run the early villains stuff A LOT. However, now that I have probably a dozen or more characters in the 20-40 range, I haven't played the low level stuff in months. I think that might be the secret. Create a TON of characters at a time and play them all until they are 10. Then, go through and play them all until they are 15, then 20 then 25 and so on. By the time you get sick of some of them, and focus on others, the next time you go through the lowbie stuff you may just have forgotten some of it. I do not recommend AE though, just a personal preference thing.
3) If it feels like "mental abuse" then why are you back? Go play something you like. If you were just being dramatic there, then I would suggest PUGing. It gets you playing with a large rotating selection of people that you may grow to love... or despise. Either way, you are socializing. Friend those folks as you go. Gfriend them if you play with them again and they are still awesome. Start up your own SG and recruit. Hit up the global channels for your server. Etc. This game is exactly as social as you make it. -
I agree with the SPIRIT of what Father X-Mas is saying... just not the actual method of it. Making e-mail one at a time would make it virtually useless. However, the overarching theme of limiting storage and cutting surplus influence/infamy is certainly a good one, I think.
For what it's worth, when the markets merge, ALL bids will be canceled and everything will be sent back to its owner. If this works the way I hope, lots of people will lose BILLIONS. It would be fantastic to create a demand for influence again, hopefully shifting prices down. But, it will probably not work that way and everyone will plan ahead and store their inf on throwaway characters via the e-mail system (if they haven't already) and we will be just where we started.
As a further aside, ALL of the non-existant items should be taken OFF the market. That might help. -

/em flypose0? Lol, I don't think there is a way to do that.
