Quote:See, I think that [Dimension Shift] should become a Toggle, and [Lift] should be made into a chain power á là [Jolting Chain]If they were to just change Dimension Shift into an AoE version of Lift...man it would be my favorite set.
Quote:Mind you I kinda agree that the Cottage Rule should just be a strong guideline and if a power needs to be changed in order to bring a set up to par then it should be broken.
Quote:They need to totally throw the cottage rule out the window on this one.. Every control set is better than Gravity... every one... It doesnt have to be the BEST one.. but it could be a LOT less mediocre..too much hard control.. one hard control thats hard to use...no soft control that anyone wants...If Gravity is brought up above something else, then all of the dedicated players of that set will get all mad that now THEIR set is the worst, and that from that fact alone, it needs to be improved. I guess my point is that just because a set is the worst at something, doesn't automatically mean it needs to be improved... there will ALWAYS be a worst no matter what the Devs do unless they make all of them the same.

Nope.
Quote:I can buy Paragon points at least, right? That's not limited to the 400 monthly?
[Edit: It pays to read the whole of what others have said earlier in the thread...] -
I get a sneaking suspicion (not sure from where) that there might be a precedent for that particular particle effect... *scratches head* Not sure on that.

First, AWESOME achievement!
Quote:(Underlines added by me for emphasis.)I don't personally think Empathy needs any buffs. With Clarion, Judgement, Reactive, IO's, and Lore pets there is nothing I feel like I really need anymore for soloing besides aggro management (mobs running around like headless chickens).
I wish folks would STOP going on about how Incarnate Powers make buffing powersets or ATs unnecessary. Incarante Powers do NOTHING for you under Lvl 45 or before having the time to run a ridiculous number of Trials. Period.
There are still many things in this game that happen before Lvl 50. -
Quote:I beat ya to that punch a few posts up.The Domination FX follow the precedent set by other powers that boost controls. When the game launched, Power Boost in Energy Manipulation made a rainbow aura when you used it, the many colors of its graphic indicative of the cornucopia of effects it had. In issue 2 and then 3, when more powers where added with similar effects (Vanguard Medal and Power Build Up, respectively) they used the same graphic. By the time it was time to make Domination, it was well entrenched in the game that powers that boost the duration of controls were rainbowy.

Quote:I believe it is to be read as: Complete the KIR Trial without having anyone die and without destroying any terminals in the final battle versus Anti-Matter.Loves a challenge: Complete the Keyes Island Reactor Incarnate Trial without having anyone die or destroy any terminals in the final battle versus Anti-Matter.
I think the wording they chose is perfectly clear, and has to do with the use of negatives in the first half of the sentence. Because it says "without" that made what could have been an "and" into the "or."
Example:
The people aren't awake or ready this early in the morning.
VS
The people aren't awake and ready this early in the morning.
Example written in 'Math':
-a-b = -(a+b)
While I am not entirely sure on the which of the above is more grammatically correct, it seems to me that both are read to mean the same thing. -

Quote:For whatever reason, that effect seems to be the default power FX for powers like [Power Boost]. Seeing as [Domination] does increase your magnitude/duration of controls (a secondary effect) it makes sense that they share FX.But why make the effect a rainbow in the first place? I mean, sure, it makes it obvious what's going on, but there must have been a better option. Or do rainbows have some dark, twisted purpose in the CoX Universe that I'm unaware of?
Are they the best FX that could be given to [Domination]? Certainly not, but they DO match a similar effect that was in the game years before... so consistency, I suppose, trumps 'sadism.' -
That last one is no laughing matter.
It happens to me before the game crashes... which is typically as soon as I try to zone.

Might also want to look into the Bubbles and Boils Auras from i20.5 available through Astrals/Emps. Both could look a bit like water, I suppose.

Quote:Wow... I have spent countless hours over the past 4+ years picking names! In fact, the only activity (outside of actually playing) that I do more, is probably costuming. And, for various reasons, I like all of my character's names.So...what are YOUR favorite toon's names and how did you come by them?
- Corridor - I was driving to class one night when I mused about this name and whether it would be available... It was. So it became the name of an evil magic-user on Justice. I greatly enjoy the simplicity of it.
- Decimal - I just created this character the other day. I got inspired to make an Elec/Devices Blaster and had the idea he would be a technopath of some sort. As such, a name that went back to numbers seemed appropriate... although Binary woulda fit a bit better perhaps.
- Spiritglass - I have REALLY begun to like the smash-two-words-together-without-a-hypen names. I have a ton of them. In this case, I was looking for a name that could serve as the character's name as well as the name for the artifact that gives him his powers. The artifact enables to channel his soul into the artifact to power it up... he's an Energy/Energy Blaster.
- Mender Cocytus - I like this one because it references Dante's Inferno... The character is an Ice/Ice Tanker. I also enjoy the fact that he is a part of an existing group in CoH as well as the fact that this particular river in the Inferno runs contrary to most folks' ideas about hell: it's frozen.

I'll likely be sleeping then after working tonight... but I would have been glad to join you otherwise.

Quote:Good point... and I have been guilty of perhaps talking a bit TOO much about what the leader has said. (I try not to get to the point where what I said could be construed as giving contrary instructions though.)I think even bigger confusion is when EVERYONE on the trial thinks they know more than the leader. While I am always good with just listening to what the leader says, one could imagine how intimidating it is to see 8 out of 16 people have a different strategy for the trial, and a confused person trying to decide if the leader is right, an SG member is right, or if a friend is right. More often than not, the leaders get drowned out by the people too cowardly to form their own trials, but have no problem telling the leader they are doing it wrong!
P.S. Nice to see ya post more and show off that sig I made for you! -
Quote:To a point I agree with you... but I think there is a big difference between the innocent folks who want to try their best but just don't know what to do and are afraid to ask because their leader seems like a d-bag (which I myself was when I first began running trials) and the folks that Snow is talking about: folks who THINK they know everything, refuse to listen to instructions cuz they know better, and generally will not ever say anything in chat whatsoever. Not speaking up during these things is a mistake. Period. Even if you leader is a d-bag... he wants the rewards too... and so does everyone else on the team. (I had it happen several times where I said in a League I was new, and asked pointed questions about the instructions, if any, that were given and had a helpful NON-leader send me a tell helping me out.)I think that everyone who joins a trial wants it to be successful; no one tries to screw it up on purpose. It's disturbing to read all this "everyone's a moron but me and my small circle of people with whom I regularly play" chest-thumping. Casual players, players who've only just got their first toon to 50 after x number of years preferring not to, players who don't read the forums, and players who love to play but may never be as good at the game as they'd dearly love to be are not morons. They are not "not listening" to you (generally speaking, not actually you, Snow Globe
) so they can screw up your chance (and theirs) to get merits or ixp or badges.
Quote:This dismissive, condescending, mean-spirited attitude makes people afraid to say that they've never done the trial (if they are even asked, and I've been on a LOT of trials where the leader never asks this at all or says something like "so any cherries here?" or something equally off-putting that no one would pipe up and say, oh, yes, me! I'm an idiot who's clueless, thanks for asking). If you want people to play as well as you do, try helping them rather than being rude and dismissive. You may be surprised at how well they begin to listen.
I recall a few examples where I have scolded a leader or a fellow player in Leagues I was on due to their chat. One example was a leader who began speaking in all-caps being mad that prisoners were escaping... I simply stated: "Stop screaming at people that they are f-ing up... and give directions that will help them do this right." I saw no purpose in him being a jerk and getting pissed, screaming at someone will not help them understand what they are doing wrong. Another time we had one prisoner escape... ONE and a member of the team was demanding that one team or another state if it was from North or South's chokepoint... I was confused what difference it made and stated as much. Further, I said that missing a single Astral is no cause to flip out. I should have also stated that simply being better organized would have probably saved us. In this particular BAF, the leader got demoted through a DC or something and was giving instructions that he would routinely change or mis-state in the first place causing a good deal of confusion even among folks who had done a ton of BAFs. -
I don't know that it make sense to unduly limit the thread to just that. I don't see why it couldn't serve both purposes... After all, there are many folks who are fine making a costume and things once they get an idea, and others (like you) who seem to have a ton of concepts but have trouble pulling them off to their liking. Making this thread help both kinds of folks seems like a win-win to me.

Re: that most recent Login UI image... if ONLY it could be done so States was back to back with LR and Tyrant was a bit bigger and sorta looming over the two in the foreground. I think THAT would better encapsulate what is going on in-game at present. However, one only has access to so many source images of the characters in question, and one must work with what ya have available.
Speaking of which, I don't remember what the images of LR and some of the other characters looked like in the "Fan Site Kit" that one can download from the CoH website.
Not as far as I know. As long as no one discusses OPENLY how one goes about digging through game files, or some such... and some discretion is given to talking about any and all substitutions of this nature.
I would refer you for examples to Corva's and Vanden's Icon Packs, and the various Vidiot Maps. All of which operate on a similar principle. Also there is a thread somewhere on how to silence certain in-game SFX, which also works through the same process. -
Quote:Seriously?!Not recipes, apparently, but pre-crafted IOs. Not that it will really make much difference for uncommons anyway.
That is the worst news I have heard all day! I loathe the idea of things like that being for sale for real money, regardless of the power of the items in question. -
Yeah, there are plenty of reasons to run the new iTrial (like more Emps to buy nifty Costume stuff with?). Also, I for one am GLAD we are not getting new slots yet. Not everyone has the time to get everything T4ed or even T3ed.
-
Sorta. Not more than a few days after I finally T4ed my Alpha, did I realize that going Cardiac would actually help my main a lot more... considering in the BAF Prisoner phase, he was gasping for wind and popping blues more often than I would like. So, I eventually got it to T3... and am still chasing Shards and such to get it to T4.

I am spit-balling here based on the thing Flash said about "taking a piece" of something and run with it.
I was once desperately trying to come up with a good concept for an Illusion controller on which I had yet to determine a secondary. One of my ideas was to go Cold Domination, but I had no idea how to mesh those two ideas. So, I looked up hypothermia, and found out (based on an inkling I had had) that sometimes folks with severe hypothermia hallucinate, get confused and even attack potential rescuers... in many occassions they get so mixed up and temperature dis-regulated that they shed their clothes... speeding up the process. All of this gave me a brilliant concept to tie Illusion with Cold... centering around the character having survived hypothermia and come out the other side able to manipulate coldness and give OTHERS hallucinations induced by temperature shifts. I loved the idea, even if it is a bit implausible... but this IS a comic book game.
Moral of the story? Browse a Wiki, scan the room you are in... ANYTHING can get the ball rolling on a brilliant character concept if you are struggling. -
I love that we finally have a facepalm emote!

How dare another numbered person exist on the server that became the home to all my hero characters!

I guess the thing I find most odd about this... is that the behavior isn't even vaguely funny anymore. It was humorous for the first two or three times I saw it done. Beyond that, it is like hearing a bad joke for the 537th time... it loses a bit in the re-telling, eh? Sorta like how hitting F10 during the ITF cutscene hasn't been funny for at least a year, and yet people still do it.
Quote:This is why I would kick people for being in the cutscene... it has ZERO to do with how serious I am. It's about not helping when you should be.The first time I saw someone dancing in the Lambda Trial cutscene, my thoughts were "Why were you out there dancing instead of in here helping gather temp powers?"
There is no need to warn anyone of the fact that if they are stupid and not contributing to the League, they should expect a Kick. Also, if people are being rude or otherwise negatively impacting a TF for others involved, they deserve a kick as well... whether it is Mission 2 or 23! It has little to do with the leader, and everything to do with the behavior of the person in question. Not seeing that is a failure to take responsibility. Yes, this is a game, but being a jerk during a TF or failing to contribute means other people will have less fun while someone is gallivanting.
