Yeah, that makes a ton of sense... sorta as a fallback position when ideas don't abound. That was something I did early on when Dual Blades came out. I wandered around for a few hours in Mercy messing around with Kratos. (That character got deleted pretty quickly.)

Odd, I would come to the opposite conclusion. There are a bunch of anti-KB threads, but each one of them is attacked by folks who are more fair-minded about KB and stay in said thread way beyond the necessary to rail against the unrealistic portrayal that many KB opponents present.

I feel that KB, like any other ability, has its pitfalls but it also has its plusses... which is a conclusion I drew as much from gameplay as I have from the forums.
  3. ...to make a character that is inspired by an existing intellectual property?

Now this thread isn't about ferretting out those "generic-able" costumes and names, but instead to inquire about the WHY of making a character in name, appearance or bio that is inspired by such characters as Batman, Spider-Man, Spawn, Neo and Green Lantern.

Myself, I have always preferred to make a character as unique as possible with my own (somewhat limited) creativity, so I am just trying to understand the idea behind doing otherwise. For me, there have been only a few characters that I have made that are inspired by existing comic characters.
    • Schwarzpunkt — He was inspired by Batman and Ozymandias... and as such became an acrobatic, smart, gadgety, villain who really thinks he is doing the right thing. His costume is all black, but that is about where the similarities end. I made him because I wanted to make a Stalker, and Batman sprung to mind...
    • Hard-Light — This dude was inspired by me looking at the Vanguard sword and the Energy Shield and immeadiately thinking Green Lantern. However, I chose to make this guy's dominant colors yellow, and significantly alter his costume. I just liked the idea that the sword itself was his power.

What are your examples, and why did you make that character?

  7. My TA/Sonic Defender is in the 24ish range, and I have noticed ZERO endurance issues with him. And I duo him with a Tank, so it isn't like our combined damage potential is insurmountable...

Not your fault, the OP was NOT clear on that fact. The only reason I knew that was the case was because I had just read several of his posts in a Titan Weapons thread... and because, well, Test_Rat has been a Stalker advocate (even when it doesn't make sense) for some time now.

    As an aside:

I believe the word that should be in the underlined spot is "preclude," not exclude. There is a subtle difference. Where "exclude" means to keep away from, or not allow, "preclude" has more the sense of preventing something from happening in the first place. It implies that because of this thing, this other thing becomes impossible.

In his defense, that is NOT his actual opinion... he was speaking as if for one of the Devs.

Why yes, I have. Thank you for asking. I have two Stalkers at 50: a DM/SR and an Elec/Nin.

I also wanted to throw in a quick comment here about Stalker primaries. Your example uses Elec Melee... which, I have to say from experience, is a WHOLE 'nother ballgame when compared to other primaries I have played. My Dark Melee user used AS quite a bit more as an opener and otherwise when compared to my Elec Melee. Lightning Rod pretty much changes the landscape of what you are going to do... COMPLETELY. And, of course, it doesn't hurt that Elec is hugely AoE focused while Dark is about as single target as you can get.

However, I haven't actually played either of those characters in a good long while... and as soon as I finished typing that post, I began to think that everything I had said might be BS.

    Quote:
and excluding the RP argument (which I find garbage since we have electric armor, Lightning Rod - you go BOOM, damage and knocks down everyone, but stay hidden, lol - and whatnot)
For me, this argument doesn't hold water because this game should be trying to avoid including MORE sets that are ridiculous... not including more because there already are some. But, I can understand your point.

    Quote:
I find its mechanic perfect for the Stalker playstyle, being a very bursty set. Even including AS.
And this right here is the very point that got me to questioning my own post above. After I had hit [Submit], I got to thinking that the Momentum mechanic is actually very similar to what Stalkers do already... they just don't get a bonus for it. The only issue would be certain fights where you would have killed the group just as momentum kicks in... which would be frustrating, but then again, if you can do that, you didn't NEED the bonus.

(which isn't realistic since we don't AS that much past 25-30)
Just to clarify, it wasn't meant to be an exact attack chain. I don't know how ANYONE can actually remember the exact order they typically do attacks and what would be recharged when they type those things up, it was pure guessing on my part... the only thing I was confident about was the Build-Up to start. LOL

You're right, it IS possible. But we have ZERO precedent to use for this issue. The closest analogue we have is Dual Pistols which obviously isn't a Stalker set. And next to that, the closest we can get is Dual Blades which IS a Stalker set... You also have to admit that Staff is FAR more logical as a Stalker set than Titan Weapons.

The very nature of a Stalker's BU > AS > Placate > AS > Rest of Attacks, etc. mechanic kinda moves against the idea of attacking like Titan Weapons seems to want, especially with the priority of going into Hide as often as possible.

[Edit: Yeah, that last paragraph is BS. I disagree with myself and wanted to toss in a disclaimer. ]

    Flipping LOVELY!

So, how do I make that JPG into the type of file the game recognizes?
  14. He is making a deliberate crack at the legimate reasons that were offered as to why Titan Weapons is not available to Stalkers and then assuming it will apply to Staff Fighting, which is a stretch at best.

I just started reading this thread, and so don't a have a full perspective on the discussion thus far... but I noticed this and figured I would comment.

That IS what is happening. There are boatloads of folks trying to make their own farming arcs and failing miserably at it (or continue to have old un-usable farm arcs listed) that really are making it harder to find the well written stories. It is the principle reason that I don't really use the AE for anything anymore: unless I already know the name of a good arc, it is pretty difficult to find one when I feel like it.

Also, this. However, it is possible he was making a comparison... as in this change is akin to ED.

I get asked similar questions whenever I mention my boyfriend... who also plays this game. I am amused.

No matter what, bugs will CONTINUE being created forever. There is no way around that. Unless you want them to simply stop adding things to the game forever, that will stop new bugs from being created. Of course, that also means they can't get rid of existing bugs either, because that could mess with old bug fixes and cause new bugs.
  19. Doesn't matter how you ask, it isn't going to happen.
  20. Man, had I known of this months ago... it could have made a stellar birthday present for myself (b-day is the 20th)... if it also came with a lottery win.

I am too broke to get to Cali for this, but man would it have been awesome!

    Correct.

Likewise, I am not sure about Threads either, but I suspect they follow mostly the same rules as Shards.

I have NEVER seen that happen. I play on Justice and Infinity, and have done countless ITFs (it being my favorite TF in the game).

I just lead an ITF the other day... on my level 36 Brute (granted that I did pass the star to a 50 after the team was formed), but only one person on the team asked about that issue while I was forming it.

    This.

Also, there is NO WAY that this catastrophe is my fault, number one. Me being me, I can't see a way that I could cause anything that major directly. Also also, there is no way that the solution to said problem is as simple as off me and it goes away. Also also also, why in HECK would the traveller explain it to me? Why not just off me while I am unaware... something in this scenario REEKS of untruths.
  25. Try a Elec Melee/Fire Armor Brute or Scrapper... Insane amounts of damage opportunity, and lots o' AoE.
