In which case, next time you get the problem, try:
    Code:
    pathping cityofheroes.com > C:\pathping.txt
It'll sit there for about 5 minutes not appearing to do anything, but it's just outputting to a text file (C:\pathping.txt) rather than the console so that it doesn't bugger up the formatting

Once it's complete, paste the contents of said text file back here and we can take a look at where along the line you're getting the problem.
  2. Do you get similar connectivity issues to the CoX website and these forums at the same time as your disconnection issues ingame? Is there any pattern to the times of day that you're getting the problem?

Define "find" and "alien life forms"

Discover micro-cellular life somewhere in the universe? Sure. We've already found evidence of such on a number of occasions, though we're still a little lacking on the proof side.

Have lunch with intelligent alien beings? Marginally less likely.

You want to stick with a single class of mez; either Hold, Hold or Sleep, Sleep - mixing them up won't give you any benefit and anything that hits after a Sleep takes effect and does damage (or heals) will wake them from the sleep.

    Your Face Here

Everything that happens in the game is done server-side and thus happens to everyone the same.

How everything looks, however, is client side (this includes Physics) and so can be different for each player (see: Custom icons/maps/etc as well as ragdoll effects on mobs).

So it would "just" be a case of having the client generate texture or object data for your character on login, for example, and then using that to texture your billboards and display your statues. Of course, the practicalities of actually doing so are well outside my sphere of knowledge about the game.
  6. Only thing that springs to mind is that if you use Herostats you may have problems getting the overlay to stay on top of CoX when running fullscreen due to how Win 7's desktop compositing works.

    Otherwise, it works just fine.
  7. Defragging has next to no effect on NTFS volumes these days, unless you've got horrific fragmentation issues of course, but given that Win 7 runs background defrag jobs on all non-SSD drives you have to work very hard to get high levels of fragmentation in the first place.

Where are you getting your link speed values from? The wireless card on your machine? Have you tried not using wireless?

Seriously, if it's in any way possible use a wired network connection (at least to test), wireless is hugely susceptible to interference from just about anything that generates any kind of EMF, anything that blocks EMF and anything else that happens to be going on nearby.

So, assuming my understanding is correct, you don't want to use the "-1 level to me" difficulty setting. Technically, at least a portion of the spawns will be +0 to you, and could drop shards. But, it would significantly lower your chances for them per mission.
Correct. Since i20, if you have unlocked the incarnate content, then any mob that is Even Level or above your current Combat Level can potentially drop a shard.

One of these companies will get hacked, and everything in their "Cloud" will be compromised, and then everyone will realise that we keep control of our own data for a reason.
What do you mean "until"? "Cloud" providers are being compromised left, right & centre and they're only the ones that actually get a) Discovered and b) Reported. Note that I'm not just talking about hacking here, I'm also talking about unscrupulous companies and/or their employees selling customer data, governments being granted access to data for what usually amounts to a legal fishing expedition and so forth. Only reason that it's all still going is that people are, by and large, morons (or at least lazy and ignorant) when it comes to securing their personal information (see: Every Facebook profile).

If you're storing *anything* in the cloud that contains personal, confidential, sensitive, private or important information then you damn well better be a) Encrypting it and b) Backing it up locally (And no, the cloud is not a backup solution unless you have contractually enforced SLAs - and even then I'd hesitate to rely on it - the cloud is more akin to RAID) or you're just asking for trouble.

It's not the same. It's better, sure, but until you can design a touchscreen interface that allows you to touch-type, it's not replacing the keyboard. Also, how do you position these monitors? As they are now: Gorilla arms, flat on the desk: Neck cramps, somewhere in between: A combination of the two

One thing that came to mind while reading the thread: what of the potential to move CoH to "the Cloud". (I'm not a big fan of the Cloud, yet, mostly due to the headaches with work email it gives me. Headaches that were supposed to have been resolved by migrating to the Cloud.) Back to CoH though. Might the game be migrated to Cloud technology at some point?
MMOs *are* "in the cloud" as much as is reasonably possibly, not sure what more you can do unless you want to go all OnLive-y. Anyway, this "cloud" stuff is largely nonsense; you email isn't being stored "in the cloud", it's on a server, just like it was when you had webmail 10 years ago. Your apps are the same, they're either web-based and running off a server or running via a Citrix analog, just like they did 10 years ago.

Sure, tech has advanced in terms of HTML5/JS/Flash (ugh) and connection speeds making richer apps practical, but this idea that the cloud is going to replace everything is as stupid as touchscreens replacing keyboards and mice. Remember when mainframes with dumb terminals meant that desktop PCs as we know them never existed because having everything stored centrally and accessible remotely was so superior? No, neither do I.

One of the best things about CoX is that when it comes to teams, on the whole, your AT simply doesn't matter. That's not to say that ATs are pointless, just that the game allows you to find success with a team of all Tanks, or all Controllers, or a Defender and 7 Blasters etc. as well as more "balanced" teams.

Sure, sometimes you "need" debuffs or buffs or dps or aggro control to make things more manageable, but if you've got good players with half-decent builds you rarely have to worry about things like not having a "healer".
  13. The keyboard and mouse have been apparently on the verge of death since they were invented, yet are still here.

Ultimately, touchscreens suck for many reasons:
    1) They're hard work, you have to move your hands around much more than with a keyboard & mouse, depending on the size of the screen, especially if you do a lot of typing.
    2) Your hands are often covering what you're trying to interact with, especially if you have big hands, which leads to...
    3) You can't be anywhere near as precise as with a mouse, even with a stylus
    4) No haptic feedback

Touchscreens have their place, just like voice control and things like Kinect, but as it stands, they're not even close to being able to replace a keyboard and mouse for general use.

If you don't mind figuring out which enhancements you need (they're color coded too), you can just pick whichever origin fits your character concept the best.

The only other things origin affects is the starter temp power your character gets, which isn't really a huge deal, and you get bonus damage for certain vet reward powers, but it's going to be a while before you need to concern yourself with those.

    Welcome to the game!
On the Hero side, Origin also affects the first arc of missions that you get when you start a new character.

If he didn't wait all that time, then he's not 'The Last Centurion' and has no in-character reason to be a badass.

If he *was* plastic and then turned human again when the Doctor rebooted the universe, I want to know how he still has any memories from before.

If the answer to *that* is that Amy has the power to warp reality to partially conform to her memories, then I need that superpower addressed (and removed!) in the show.

Frankly, the end of last season left a tangle of continuity problems, and Rory is just the most visible one. I normally don't worry about continuity with Doctor Who, but it becomes an issue when the entire damn season is one drawn-out continuous story.
Rory became human again when they rebooted the universe; they remembered it all because they still existed at the "end" of the old universe, everyone else had ceased to exist at the point.

The Amy bit was a little wishy washy but was related to the cracks in time in her bedroom and the ability to influence things specifically within the context of the reboot of the universe, rather than in general.

    VMWare question

You've only got a 5400rpm drive in the MBP and the single biggest performance issue with VMs in a desktop environment is Disk I/O, the second is RAM; how much RAM did you give the VM?
  18. Maybe we should just accept that even under ideal conditions, most comic book continuity is so badly screwed up at this point that it's essentially impossible for anyone to "get it right" in relation to anything else that has come before it.

None of the LHC scientists really thought that - I mean, the strangelet thing was plausible but so improbable as to be almost irrelevant, but the black hole claims made by various doom-sayers were always complete nonsense (not that the LHC couldn't theoretically create a black hole, but that it would pose the slightest risk to anyone on Earth if it did).
