All you had to do was stay out of direct line of sight.

    And not say "Ma'am".

To be honest, the only thing I recall seeing Frog drink this weekend was someone else's water.

  3. OOPS. I forgot one of the Team Texas members, so we had 5 with Neutra. infallible had lost enough weight that I lost sight of him in the crowd.
  4. Hopefully, even though it isn't listed in the announcement about Friday's patch, this will be resolved with the Friday emergency patch.
  5. Actually, you should just start encouraging your fellow Canadian Justice players to attend as well.

There are more than just one or two of you. Of course, it seems rather discouraging to me that Team Ohio had as many members as Team Texas in attendance, and that's only if we count our Texan-currently-living-in-Florida-for-school Neutra. Actually, I'd forgotten one of the Team Ohio members since he kept getting lost on the way to the Justice gatherings, so Team Ohio had 5 members with Mortus Amicus and Team Texas only had 4 if we count Neutra.

    Very sad.

Actually, reproducing the bug isn't as simple as running with a team, and there's a semi-amusing story that goes with this.

Ghost Falcon discussed this one as well at the Bug panel, and took the blame squarely on his own shoulders for this bug not being caught.

When they pushed the Halloween Event to Test and asked for players to help test it, they had the event code turned off initially. Ghost Falcon sent out a message over the ADMIN channel for everyone to come to Atlas Park for information about the event and instructions. Once everyone was assembled there he explained how the event works and gave some fairly general instructions of things to look at. Then he asked everyone to form teams and then he turned the event code to ON At this point, everyone was in the same zone so the bug didn't manifest.

If someone logged in later in a different zone and was invited to a team, either no one was looking at the team window to notice the name problem, or they saw it but didn't report it. Maybe someone saw it but thought it was just a momentary glitch and didn't consider it worth reporting as a bug. Whatever the reason, it wasn't reported.

I was rather impressed with Ghost Falcon for being so upfront and letting us know it was his fault before he explained what happened and how it was missed. He did also tell us that the players are very creative in finding ways to break things, often things that hadn't been previously thought of.

As for the rest of your post, I have to agree with most of it.

At this point, I think I'm just going to stop talking about the Testing process on the forums. Instead, I'll keep an eye on the Test server and if a patch is put up that I can help Test, I'll test it to the best of my abilities and try to start thinking more outside the box when I'm testing.
  7. I thought it had been mentioned earlier, but looking back I don't see it so I'll mention it now.

The T-Shirt that we signed and gave to Red was the 5 year anniversary T-Shirt winner, drawn by syrusb (@Liz) who was also at the dinner. These shirts were being sold in the Wentworths store at HeroCon and this one was picked up Friday afternoon so that the signing could start ASAP.

As for the certificate he received Sunday (and one year paid subscription to CoH) that was an award from the Devs. Red was one of 5 HeroCon attendees voted on by the Devs to receive that recognition for the work done by the players to enhance the HeroCon experience for the other players. That was also when EMpulse referred to him as Mr. Justice, a sobriquet many of us find very fitting.

Oh right. Much like the weekend's conversations in the Texas Justice Express minivan.

Well, at least I won't have to worry about busting open my suture laughing while reading it and remembering.
  9. Not saying that at all. However, I only see one item related to TF's in the patch notes. If no one tested it, whether it was players, QA, or the Devs, all the way through to where the AV's spawn, it would be easy to miss. It's possible that the only testing steps used were starting the TF and then trying to adjust the mission settings to see if they would change or not and then breaking the TF at that point. If that was the case, they would never have gotten to the AV's so wouldn't have noticed the spawn level was broken.

Also, it was mentioned this weekend during a panel on bugs that there are many times when Ghost Falcon is trying to get something tested that he is finding 0 people on the Test server aside from himself or so few that he can't get sufficient data to be considered relevant.

Also, it was mentioned that some of the bugs that have come up only come up under specific load conditions (the sufficient numbers comment I made above) and those conditions were never met on the Test server so the items slipped through. True, they have tools to simulate specific load volumes, but it's just a simulation and doesn't accurately reflect what is happening all the time.

I'm not sure I can trust QA anymore, which makes me sad. I'd been thinking of applying for a QA spot, but I don't have enough faith in them to work with them.

I'm really not sure I can trust the /bug process or the Testing processes in general. I think the panel this past weekend left me with more unanswered questions than I had before the panel, and a more unsettled feeling than before.

Part of it was likely just me, since I wasn't in top shape for the weekend, and that may have contributed to my uneasiness.

At this point, I just don't know. The only thing I do know is that if I see a patch sent to Test, I will do my best to Test everything I can.

I'm just waiting for someone to tell the tale of The Otter and The Starfish.
  11. Okay, it looks like yesterdays patch to Live included items from the patch to Test last week (10/20) and the one from this week (10/26) as well.

I've looked all over the Test Server forums and see nothing about the Oro problems being reported. Can you provide links please Reiska?
  12. My mistake then. I though I had seen those patch notes last week.

I've lost track of time so much lately due to surgery and jetlag that I apparently misremembered when it was posted to Test.

That now makes me curious as to what I DID see last week.
  13. Oh yeah, the other bug is that AV's are spawning at wacky levels depending on how the mission difficulty stuff is set. For example, setting it to +1 causes +2 AV's to spawn, setting it to +2 causes +4 Av's to spawn, +3 setting causes +6 spawns, etc.

Also, it can add a level to the spawn if is spawns in a room other than the room designated in the particular map as the "end room".

All in all, it can lead to some ridiculously easy mobs with ridiculously overpowered AV's.

The current build was on the Test server last week. However, just because it is pushed to Test doesn't mean people actually log in and test things, or not in sufficient numbers to encounter some of the post patch problems that crop up.
  15. Just in case anyone hasn't heard, there are some bugs currently with spawn levels, mostly in Oro but apparently affecting some TF's as well.

UberGuy made a post in the Technical section of the forums that the Lady Grey Task Force is uniformly spawning at Level 49 for Level 50 teams.

Just something to be aware of since this is the TF that is planned for the SatMat.
  16. From discussions with Dark Watcher at HeroCon, I believe that your current video card should have little to no problems with all the shinies in Ultra Mode. Actually, he commented on my ATI 4850 HD w/1 Gb and said it will handle all but one of the new settings at max.

I can't recall what the feature is called, but if I go back and watch the video that is on YouTube I could probably come up with it.

The biggest problem I see with your current rig is the processor.

I'd recommend finding one of Father Xmas' posts and looking at the rigs in his signature. He tends to keep them fairly well updated.

Again, I'll point out that it took time for them to gather enough information from the players that actually bothered to file a bug report and then respond to requests for specific information to determine the cause of the problem.

If people don't tell them it's broken and give them all of the information needed to determine the cause of the problem I find it difficult to fault them for delays in fixing the issue. And when you are looking at who among the 4 companies is responsible for fixing the issue, that takes additional time. And from the small number of tickets that were filed, it's difficult to classify it as a major bug. It's more of an edge case bug due to the very small number of affected players. I'm not saying it's an unimportant bug, just that it isn't what most software companies (game company or other) would classify as major simply due to the small number of affected players.

As an example, I can't fault them for not fixing the Water Effects and Bloom issues that ATI users experience and have been going on for seemingly forever simply because it is outside their control and fully in ATI's bailiwick.

And Agge, I think Forgottenn has an X3100 card (or whatever the model number is) which IS supported. I shouldn't have muddied the waters by mentioning those with unsupported Intel cards.

    Can't Alt-Tab

To whoever left the following amusing comment:

    Quote:
running in window vs. full screen doesn't actually solve the problem of "can't alt tab in full screen"
Please note that the title of the thread is Can't Alt-Tab and not Can't Alt-Tab in Fullscreen.

I did provide a workaround to the problem as stated. True, you lose a small amount of screen space due to the Taskbar and Title bar. You can even regain the space the Task Bar uses by setting the Task Bar to Autohide and then move the mouse to the bottom of the screen to bring it back up and switch applications.

tl;dr version? if you are going to leave a comment, make sure it's one that fits the problem as stated, not what you think the problem is

EDIT: By the way, this isn't a complaint about the Neg Rep, it's a complaint about using the system and it's anonymity to make a comment that isn't accurate. Rep is meaningless anyway.

David Nakayama still not showing up. He does appear on the official Dev Digest page.
  20. Well, it may have been over almost a month since you saw it, but it hasn't been that long since they finally got the information they needed to find out that it is only affecting 1 supported video card. Yes, it is affecting another card, but they clearly stated that that card is not supported before they released the Mac version. Ghost Falcon mentioned this weekend that he was very specific in the wording before it was ever posted because he wanted to avoid people complaining about it later. It apparently didn't help, or at least not to the degree it should have.

During a panel at the Con about bugs, this bug came up as a reference. The actual number of support tickets filed was extremely low. I was rather surprised at how low it was, but I don't remember the number. Also, it took some time for them to get enough information from the players to narrow it down to that one Intel card, sometimes because people were very slow in responding to the requests for information.

Then they had to figure out if it was a problem for Apple, Intel, Cedega (or whoever handles the wrapper) or them (Paragon Studios) to handle and then wait for a fix to be delivered and get an estimated time on that part. They didn't want to post about it until they had that answer since that would have been frustrating for them and the players both to be hanging with a "we know about it but don't know when it will be fixed" answer. Apparently they have a timeframe for the fix now, which will mean they'll have to get a new build ready once it arrives, push it to Test and get people to actually test it, then roll it up for a push to live. But, when you are waiting for a fix from someone that isn't under your control, it's rather difficult to give an exact date for a fix to be ready.

That's not a short process, especially when players don't help by filing support tickets or providing the information they asked for and needed in order to identify exactly where the problem was.
  21. D'oh!

Totally missed that link. Yeah, very helpful for these tired old eyes.

I'm still waiting for Frog to post the pic from his phone. Maybe you can see it when it's on a website. Especially if it's Flickr with the All Sizes button.

  22. I think that it is more related to the changes that were included in this most recent iteration of the forum rules, specifically those relating to Negative Reputation.

By putting it at the top of every forum page after the change it removes the "Well, I couldn't find where the rules are posted" argument in case a need for such moderation arises.

Also, I LIKE having it at the top of each forum and would prefer it be stickied in every forum, but this will work. There are times I do go back and look at the rules and their wording.
  23. Well, since you are withdrawn that makes Mike #8.

Hopefully 7 more will sign up.
  24. For those that may have missed it Grazel (one of our adoptees from another server) has posted his pics from HeroCon. There are several from the Holder's breakfast, some from the Costume Contest (I don't see Goober's picture, maybe it was too Darkity Dark Dark to show up properly), and some from the Sushi dinner on Sunday.

Including the picture that started the laughter that didn't want to end. This picture was likely the closest one that anyone could get to the angle I had of it.

    Such a naughty otter.
