Quote:That method wouldn't work here, since this isn't a DirectX game. CoH is running on OpenGL and much of the engine was designed when OpenGL was in version 1.0We all hope, but you can never know until it's out! Just because they don't mention it doesn't mean it won't happen, but I doubt it will happen. I wish they would do something like Lord of the Rings online did. LoTRO has a separate client to load DX9 or DX10 textures. That would be really nice
The same people still play together, but if you have a better computer you can have the awesome graphics and textures
. That would be a great way to implement such a change! Just my opinion, but it works well for them lol!

Quote:On my old computer I have a section of screenshots of walls with black sections of textures on walls, doors, etc. I understand about the graphics glitches and the joy that finding and reporting them brings. Especially when I get to run the mission it was on right after a patch that fixes it and remind myself that I files a /bug report on that sucker and now it's fixed. Same with text errors.Mostly. But some of us get this wierd kick outta squashing bugs
Is it sad that I still take screenies of busted terrain and graphical glitches more than any other sort of screeny?
Now that I've got a fairly new computer again (less than a year old, video card should be quite good for testing UM) I'm eager to go hunting these again. It got to be less fun testing with a video card that was top of the line when purchased in April of 2005 and has aged rather gracefully, but still is showing it's age. -
Quote:Ding! Ding! Ding!Don't they add people in waves? (so first the one they choose, then the 60 month veterans, then the loyalty badges etc)
Don't know the exact order.
Even if they are going to apply the 60-month vet, the loyalty program, or HeroCon attendees status to the I17 Closed Beta, that doesn't mean we are going to get in the first day.
Most Beta's start with a small Friends and Family invitation, then they have additional waves of invites based on different criteria. Sometimes we don't even know what that criteria is because they don't tell us.
I would qualify under all of the items listed above except Friends and Family or (probably) whatever SuperSecretBetaQualifications that the team uses this time around. I never could figure out Ghost Falcon's SSBQ, and since I know even less about Doc Delilah I doubt I'd be able to figure her SSBQ out either.
Am I chomping at the bit to test out I17 for Ultra Mode or the changes to Positron's TF or the new market interfaces? You bet. But nothing I do will get me into the Beta any faster. I'll just anxiously await my invite, and keep trying to get in anyway in case it gets lost in the email system. -
Nothing stands out in the CoH Helper report.
Try post a log from running HijackThis. This will show what else is going on on your computer while you are playing CoH. -
Agonus, you've not given us any real information to work from, so I'll address Swergen's post since I see half of the information we need.
I notice that you are using the 196.75 nVidia drivers, but the dates don't look right. You show a driver date of 2/22/2010, but the 196.75 drivers weren't released until 3/2/2010. Were you using a Beta version of those drivers? If not, it looks like the installation may be corrupted. I'd recommend downloading the 196.75 drivers again but don't install them yet, download and install DriverSweeper but don't run it yet, uninstall the nVidia video drivers and any of the display driver applications then reboot into Safe Mode. Once you are in Safe Mode, run DriverSweeper and have it remove any remaining nVidia Display Drivers, then reboot into normal mode. Once Windows loads, cancel any new hardware wizards or driver installations that try to start, then install the nVidia drivers that you downloaded earlier so that you have a clean installation of the Release version of 196.75 drivers on your system.
It's also possible that there is a conflict between those new drivers and the updates we got in the patch. You may want to try going back to an older driver such as the 196.21 drivers that were released in January, or even the 195.62 drivers that were released in November.
Since the 196.75 drivers were still being tested while the newly downloaded CoH content was on the Test server, it's possible that there is an issue that isn't noted in the Release Notes. If no one was using the beta version of the new drivers on Test, they wouldn't have seen a problem. The Release version of the drivers coming out the same day as the CoH updates makes me think this is a good possibility. In the Release notes for these new drivers, it is noted that the Cursor is broken again in these drivers for Vista, necessitating the need for the -compatiblecursors 1 tag onto the shortcut. If they break something that the devs have already fixed like the cursor in these new drivers, something else could easily be broken.
We also really need to see a HiJackThis log as well to see what else is happening on your computer. The CoH Helper report is only half of what we use for diagnostics, HJT is the other half. Usually the CoH Helper shows us what the problem is, but not always all of the problems.
For those other than the OP that are having this problem, please start your own thread and post a CoH Helper log and a HiJackThis log. The reason we ask for a separate thread when troubleshooting these issues is that sometimes the instructions we need to give are specific to one persons system only, and it can get very confusing to those with problems and those trying to troubleshoot when there are multiple people with different logs. It is very easy for anyone to get confused trying to keep multiple people's problems straight in the same thread, even though they are getting the same symptoms. -
I'll get right on that, as soon as I finish my current project.

Oh, wait, you are trying to bring this to the Developer's attention to get it fixed and didn't read the heading on this section of the forum.
Nevermind then, the sarcasm is just part of my nature.
You'd likely have better results posting this in the Official Animation Bug Thread that BackAlleyBrawler started. -

Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
Just remember to keep the sharp pointy sticks away from the HD. -
Quote:Even though he's in a different state, I could swear I heard BAB scream when he read this post. How about the ability to swim underwater. That would open up some new missions and mission styles along with a new water powerset. And I don't mean zoning underwater, just go in the water, and look down, and press w...and poof, your underwater.
How about (and I've mentioned this for years), make it where you can fly up, and when you hit the top of the map, your in a new zone.....SPACE!!!! make a zone a space station. for the non flyers, make a rocketship station, like a train station in 1 zone. Or teleporter somewhere in Atlas.
How about more 3 dimensional trees that the leaves actually move seperate from the trunk....and make the truck bend with the wind.
With the water, make waves happen instead of a particle splash. Make the water actually react to you, along with grass and bushes.
Weather. In the whole time this game has been up and running, there hasn't be any rain, thunderstorms, overcast without zombies or ritki showing up, snow falling. Throw some weather out there.
Moving hair is a good idea, Tired of my guys using millions of influence on extra firm hold hair gel. It's hair, not stone. It should move.
As far as costumes, I would like to address the costume creator. How about giving us more options. how about giving us more choices for the head...of course. As for the body, Can you make it more customizable. Add upper left arm, upper right are, lower left arm, lower right arm. Chest is good, but add costume selection for abdomen. Lower body, how about as for as legging, do upper left and a seperate upper right, then lower left and lower right. It will open up more costume options, and make for some interesting costumes.
The echo from the /facepalm was mighty indeed.

I love the new color scheme. It looks mighty spiffy.

Find a post by Father Xmas. His signature has links to a $600 build and a $1200 build. You can also see his signature, with the links, here on his profile page.

CoH Helper and HiJackThis logs.
DXDiag contains too much "usually" irrelevant data. CoH Helper pulls most of what is "usually" needed that the DXDiag report contains, and presents it in an easily readable format.
And yes, you are old. But not as old as some of us. -
Getting the month stated specifically was a bit of a surprise. It's SOP for them to not give specific dates, since if something happens that pushes back that date they get frothy-mouthed ranty posts from some posters. Not worth the headache.
I think I remember one of the devs commenting at HeroCon that no other new power sets will be released with GR, but my memory could be faulty. If I were a betting man, I'd bet that my memory was correct this time. -
Woohoo. It's on the site.
Already purchased.
Go go Dual Pistols early access during DXP weekend. -
A simple example. Mind you, this was all before the Real Numbers were introduced to the game.
Nerf's for Regen were proposed (on top of those that had already happened) and a video was posted proving WHY those nerfs were necessary. Several experienced and knowledgeable Regen players claimed that the what we were shown in the video was not possible in the Live game. Several less knowledgeable players joined in, but we'll leave their comments aside. Jack insisted that the video was accurate. The players continued to argue against the nerfs and posted what numbers we could glean from the game at the time to prove that the video wasn't accurate.
It was finally revealed that the video test took place on an internal server that ... OOPS ... was on a different revision of game code than what was on Live. Jack's response was basically as follows (paraphrased heavily, but the the general tone is there):
Oh well, it doesn't matter that the video is inaccurate and our conclusions based on it are inaccurate, we are still making these changes to Regen. Deal with it or leave. It's my game, I'll be the one to determine what is and isn't a fun play style.
And contrary to what Dr. Mechano posted above, Cryptic still had long time employees after NCSoft bought the CoH IP. Some of them had worked on CoH early in the game's development but were no longer involved with the game as they had moved on to other projects. The one that I recall the easiest would be Shannon (poz) Posniewski, the current Director of Game Programming at Cryptic. Also still with the company in leadership positions are Craig Zinkievich and Bruce Rogers. I believe there were others that stayed with Cryptic that had experience both with CoH as well as other games (some that were cancelled, some that were ... redirected), they just weren't actively working on the day-to-day business of CoH.
EDIT: Excellent link there Obsidius. It sums up much of the problem with Jack. I'll have to bookmark that when I get home. -
From looking at the date stamp on the picture in the link Nylonus gave us (May 14, 2006), along with a bit of search-fu using information in this thread, it seems that the event at Howie's Game Shack (May 13, 2006) in Orange Co. was after the Cyberjocks event in Austin (Feb. 23, 2006).

Quote:What were you expecting to happen here? If you look at the title of this section of the forums it reads as follows:It sounds like this is a persistent long time bug. And that no one wants to respond about it. Sweeping it under the rug is not going to help
Technical Issues & Bugs Discuss technical questions and/or bugs here! This is NOT a forum where official technical/QA support is available. To report a bug use the /bug command in game. For technical assistance email support@coh.com.
This is a section of the forums to discuss things only. Yes, quite a few of the players here help other players with problems, and very rarely a Dev will pop in to a thread here to acknowledge a particular issue or ask for more information on it, but that's pretty much it.
If you want it fixed, file a /bug report with steps that can reproduce it 100% of the time. If they can't reproduce it, they can't find what causes it and thus can't fix it. I've not been able to reproduce it, Master-Blade hasn't been able to reproduce it, and it's very possible that QA hasn't been able to reproduce it (if you filed a /bug report or support ticket) or CS hasn't been able to reproduce it (if you filed a support ticket). You said you PM'd Niviene about it, but all she can do is forward the information you gave to CS or QA. If you don't file a /bug report or support ticket, they possibly have no way of contacting you for more information. -
I'm using FF 3.6 and having no problems. I updated the day it was released.
In my add-ons it shows an incompatible Ffvb, Greasemonkey 0.8.20100211.5, IE View 1.4.5.1, 3 different versions of the Java Console (they are as inefficient updating their FF extensions as they are updating their Windows installations apparently and just leave old versions everywhere), Sylish 1.0.8 and the .NET Framework Assistant.
Maybe if you list your add-ons we can find the offending one by a process of elimination.
