    No Mouse Cursor

There have been instances during previous betas (that I know of definitively) where players could get on the Test server, some had even received their email (although some still hadn't) and they couldn't see they Closed Beta forums.

The instructions they were given at that time was to contact one of the forum mods so that they could do whatever voodoo they do and enable the player to access those forums properly.

I'd assume that it would be the same protocol during this CB, so fire off a PM to Avatea or theOcho and let them know that even though you can sign in to the Test server you aren't seeing the CB forums. You may want to ask them to clean up any posts containing CB information (including that you are in CB) at the same time.

A saying I recall from the original beta went something like:

    Quote:

First rule of Closed Beta is you don't talk about Closed Beta.
Second rule of Closed Beta is you don't talk about Closed Beta.

Follow rules 1 and 2 and there are no need for more rules.
  2. Trust me, I well remember the Issue 2 debacle.

That was the only time in the history of this game that I've had long waits (days long at times) for GM's to respond to /petition filings.

I shudder every time I think about that weekend. For being my "relaxation time" it was so not relaxing.

And yes, I saw that you said tended, which is why I didn't label yours as a fallacy. I point to the chart just so others can see it.

It's amazing how many people still swear that Issue Releases are always on Tuesday.

Issue 2, IIRC, launched on a Thursday, which turned out to be a mistake they have never, ever repeated.
And of course, the old man fell asleep before seeing your reply. And I don't have my chart with me, so I'll just refer you to a post made a few days ago. You can see from the chart in the post that it is just about as likely that they'll release a patch on a day that isn't Tuesday as it is that they'll release a patch on Tuesday. Yes, Tuesday is the day they've most often released the patch, but it's close to 50/50 as to whether it will be Tuesday or a Non-Tuesday.

People have repeated the fallacy that patches always come on Tuesdays so long that I decided to make a chart and keep track of it. It's been repeated so much that people that have seen 1 patch come in repeat it as gospel. Just doing my part to keep information accurate.

Not the point being made. My post was in response to the statement below:

    Quote:

Ya I didn't expect I17 to go live tomorrow (as Issues are patched in on Tuesdays)
    Bolding and italics are mine.

Lovecraft aside, you said things tend to happen on Tuesdays. I'd like to know what specific things you are referring to.

More system information that might give people enough data to assist you?

MA is different, as others have noted. If you have a problem with the words the Profanity Filter catches, as I do, turn it off.

Considering how much of a horndog one of my allies in one of the missions of my arc is, I'm sure that the word naked is used somewhere. I've not seen it filtered, but then again, I turn off the filter by choice so that I don't miss comments by other players such as "Thank God" when we barely escape defeat against a really tough opponent and our inspirations have all run out. That happened in Beta, and is the reason my profanity filter is off. I don't know if they've taken that off the list, and don't care, I know that there are words I don't find offensive on the list and I'm adult enough to deal with the ones I do find offensive.

    Things? What sort of Things?

    You have awakened my curiosity.
  9. You should be able to find the information you are looking for in this post. Just click that underlined word, it's a link to the post.
  10. I don't see any problems. My original costume was with the Elemental Energy shield with a single color for primary and secondary, so I didn't show it here.

Second costume has the Tech Shield:

Third Costume has the Vanguard Shield, shown her Deployed and the transmitter:

Since I hadn't customized these today, I took the 4th costume with the original Elemental Energy shield and changed it to the Round Shield with the Dragon pattern:

Not sure what to tell you since I can't reproduce it. I didn't try the Targe or Tribal since the Round did as it should.
  11. Really odd there. I'll log on my BrSw/Shield Defense scrapper and see what his shields are doing.
  12. I've got 2 colors on all of my shields as far as I can remember.

Which shield? Which patterns? The more detail the better.

Edit: Ok, I'll look at the pics you posted while I was typing that post and report back.

Profanity Filter: The word 'wood' is considered a profanity. Okay in the US 'got wood' has a different meaning than over here in Europe but really! In Europe the term 'a sturdy lump of wood' really does mean an actual tough piece of wood guys, it isn't a profanity
MM Pets: Known issue. This bug came in when they gave the pets the ability to use the elevators and doors. Occasionally they'll go nuts when they change floors and zip all over the map before coming back to the elevator as well. It's usually easy to get control back. Buff them, and they'll once more know the answer to "Who's your daddy?" (or in other words you'll regain control). Or, pull something over towards them that will attack them. Once they take damage they are yours to control again.

As for the Profanity Filter, I'm on the US servers and I just logged into the game, turned my Profanity Filter back on and had someone type the phrase "I get my wood from a tree" in a global channel and it all came through as it should. I then asked them to "type something that WILL be filtered" and all I saw was the comic-y type swear symbols. So, apparently it isn't filtered on the US servers. If it's filtered on the EU servers it's apparently for some regional usage you aren't aware of, or the word "wood" was mistyped and it was a different word that was filtered. Although, I can't think of any that would trigger the filter that are spelled close to how wood is spelled.

Still, the Profanity Filter list has long been a joke as far as I was concerned, so I run with it off on all characters.

Yep, here's another one of those fallacies that everyone swears is gospel truth. Issues are patched in on Tuesdays.

Not always. Let's see how they add up by issues. Dates taken from ParagonWiki Timeline page.

    Code:
    Issue 16 - September 15, 2009 Tuesday
    Issue 15 - June 29, 2009 Monday
    Issue 14 - April 8, 2009 Wednesday
    Issue 13 - December 2, 2008 Tuesday
    Issue 12 - May 20, 2008 Tuesday
    Issue 11 - November 28, 2007 Wednesday
    Issue 10 - July 24, 2007 Tuesday
    Issue 9 - May 1, 2007 Tuesday
    Issue 8 - November 28, 2006 Tuesday
    Issue 7 - June 6, 2006 Tuesday
    CoV - October 31, 2005 Monday
Issue 6 - October 27, 2005 Thursday CoV Headstart same day
    Issue 5 - August 8, 2005 Wednesday
    Issue 4 - May 4, 2005 Wednesday
    Issue 3 - January 4, 2005 Tuesday
    Issue 2 - September 16, 2004 Thursday
    Issue 1 - June 29, 2004 Tuesday
    CoH - April 28, 2004 Wednesday
    Headstart- April 25, 2004 Sunday

    Monday - 2
    Tuesday - 8 Non-Tuesday's - 10
    Wednesday - 4
    Thursday - 2
    Friday - 0
    Saturday - 0
    Sunday - 1
Now it's true that I counted the CoH Headstart in that Non-Saturday number but to me and many others, that was the our release date. But in fairness, I didn't count the CoV Headstart and Issue 6 twice since they were the same day.

As you can see from the chart, it's almost equally as likely that an Issue patch will be released on a day other than Tuesday as it is that it will be released on a Tuesday.

So, can we let this fallacy die once and for all? Please?

Think I'm gonna hang onto that chart and keep it updated. And pull it out every single time I see someone make that fallacious statement.

Maybe if I repeat it enough times people will finally realize the truth.

    I'm not holding my breath.

  16. Possibly because some people equate the use of the exclamation point as signifying the importance of the statement itself and not some hidden meaning.

And so do both CoH and the CoH Test Server installation on my computer. I didn't leave it at the default path or put it in the Users\whatever path. Also, I find another fairly new game I installed and tried for a couple of months in that same Start > Games entry. The other game wasn't installed in the default location or the Users path either.

I always use a custom installation path for games, and it's served me well for over a decade.

So. Your point is what exactly?
  19. No no. That's a different thing. That's the result of swinging the whip, not the way you swing it.

Technically, yes, I know that the reaction is due to subtle motions of the hand or wrist, but it's too subtle to be seen within the bounds of the animation engine.

Besides, with our mitten hands it would likely make that more difficult to make the distinction of the movements without over-exaggerating to the point of being a campy look.
  20. Or, he could just cut off the last inch or two of the nVidia card and go with that.

Oh wait, that won't work will it.

Sorry, might want to try Human_Being's suggestion of the 5770.

So, while I'm not saying "Never" the odds are against it.
Really, how many ways can you swing a whip. That would be like making a new set using pistols and trying to find 9 different ways to stand there and pull the trigger.

Oh wait. Totally different thing, sorry.

Not all are what people would consider names however. And they don't show up anywhere on posts, they just quietly moderate the forums, which is their job.

I'm talking about moderators with names such as Moderator1, Moderator2, Moderator3, Moderator4, Moderator5, and so on as well as Moderator01, Moderator03, Moderator04, and Moderator06. I'm sure there have been other "unnamed" moderator positions over the years, but they don't post in general. They just quietly do their job and turn in reports to their superiors. I think I recall seeing one post by one of the numbered Moderators previously and IIRC it was while the other Community Reps were out of the office and they moderated a thread, made a post that they were closing the thread, and that was it. But the name isn't red when I look at it. It's green, just like yours and mine. theOcho is a former "unnamed" moderator who worked under Moderator08. He still uses that one for some moderation action so it doesn't spam the Community Digest and doesn't draw attention to the moderation.

As far as whether or not they are part of the OCR team? I don't know. I've just never seen them listed with the OCR team members. Of course, we generally don't see them listed anywhere. The old forums showed us who had moderator privileges on specific forum sections, but I haven't seen it in the vbb forums. It may be here, I just haven't found it. Probably because it's irrelevant to me and I haven't looked for it.

And no, I know of several staff that don't have a redname. For example, The Television has been with Paragon Studios for a while now (2008 IIRC), but only recently got a redname. There are other programmers that don't have rednames, just to name one job area. Some in the Art department have no redname, some in the Design department have no redname, some in the Production department have no redname, as far as I know the clerical staff and HR department don't have rednames. I'm sure there are others. So no, not all staff have a redname.
  23. This is the Technical Issues & Bugs section of the forums. You've apparently mistaken it for the Suggestions and Ideas section of the forums.

Suggestions and Ideas is thataway ------------------------------->
  24. IF you are in the closed beta for I17, you should really be posting this in the Closed Beta forums, not the public forums.

If it's the error message I think it is, it's that it's trying to update the cohupdater.exe file and that file is already in use.

Copy that file (don't cut and paste, don't create a shortcut) from your Test directory to the desktop, double-click the file to start the updater, it should ask where to install to - give it the path of your Test directory and then cancel it as soon as it starts. Now create a shortcut to that cohupdater.exe file you put on the desktop. Put the shortcut on the desktop. Right-click the shortcut and change the path to include the -test tag. Run the shortcut. It will likely put a few extraneous files on the desktop, but when the updating is over you can delete them.
