  2. I look at it as an opportunity to TRY to get clarification of some things people are still confused about (did they mean THIS or did they really mean THAT).

Some people will likely try to use it as an excuse to drag out their current pet peeve that they've been hashing and rehashing in various threads until they get locked.

And of course some will ask the questions we already know the answer to (and have known for some time now) such as "if I switch from a hero to a villain, can I switch back?"

All we can do is put in sensible questions and hope they'll be answered in a clear manner.

You really need to update to Service Pack 2. You don't say what problems you are having with the update process, so I'll give you a few steps to get you there.

First, SP2 requires that you have SP1 installed first, so here's the direct link to the SP1 five language standalone installer for 32-bit Vista systems.

Once you get that installed and reboot, here's the direct link to the SP2 five language standalone installer for 32-bit Vista.

Maybe you are implying that you run the forums, but you don't.
Seems theOcho already answered this one for you when he locked your other thread, albeit in his Moderator 08 guise (which he normally uses when locking threads).

The two character slot tokens included with the purchase of Going Rogue were intended as a nice bonus for players who picked up Going Rogue, and not as an incentive to buy the expansion, we think there are so many reasons to get Going Rogue already! I don't know if the number had been finalized when the website went live, but there was never any attempt to deceive and I'm sorry you took it that way.

For the record, the best way to get questions like this answered if you have real concern on this issue is to pm me directly. I don't answer every PM (I wish I had the time!) but if I notice a trend of similar questions I make sure to get the question answered publicly.

I'll pass your feedback on Alty, if you want to include more please pm it to me directly. Otherwise this conversation has served its purpose so I'll go ahead and lock it.
So, your other thread got locked and you still didn't like the answer you got so you decided to get around the modlock on the thread by spewing the same diatribe here?

All this even though you were told specifically that your feedback would be passed on and if you wanted to add more to it then to PM him?

It still hasn't changed anything. CoV was an expanshalone, not a true expansion. GR is an expansion, plain and simple. A marketing model that now exists did not exist at that time (purchasable character slote). Character tokens are cashed in for character slots, but you seem to ignore this with your stance that character tokens are not additional character slots. If you can't redeem character tokens for character slots, what do you redeem them for?

Sorry, just because it wasn't what you wanted to see doesn't mean the Devs lied, doesn't mean NCSoft or Paragon Studios are using deceptive marketing practices, as you stated in the other thread. It just means that what you expected the phrase "additional character slots" to mean isn't what it turns out to be. It isn't an increase to the maximum slots per server, it isn't 4 slots per server, it is simply two character tokens to redeem for character slots on the server of your choice.

And don't blame the market merge on the villain players, I saw plenty of hero players supporting the merger and starting some of the threads in various places about it. Again, that's YOU putting YOUR spin on it and it tends to make you look silly trying to cling to that false representation of the facts.

EDIT: BAH, beaten to the punch once again by Bionic_Flea. I guess that's what I get for spending so much time in the editing window.
  5. Rather late announcement on the official rules for those using the snail mail option. Having to be received by this Friday and being posted after mail has been picked up in most of the US leaves one little choice but to pay a high price for guaranteed next day delivery.
  6. Unfortunately, your OS no longer meets the Minimum System Requirements for City of Heroes. Those Minimum System Requirements were changed with the release of Issue 17 on April 28, 2010. Issue 17 contained a MASSIVE graphics engine update and requires up to date drivers with fully functional OpenGL support.

The newest video drivers released for your video card and OS was the 93.71 driver on November 2, 2006. The lack of updated video card drivers for Windows 2000 may have a bearing on why Windows 2000 is no longer a supported Operating System.

This is something I seldom say in response to a forum post, but to continue to play the game you need to update to a newer computer, OS, video card, and everything that goes along with it.
  7. You may want to try the directions here.
  8. Don't redownload it through Steam. That is apparently the source of your problems. Others have reported problems with the Steam installation of the game.

Download it from the PlayNC site on the Account page.

Or I'll do the heavy lifting and give you the direct links.

All of those servers are East Coast servers (along with Infinity, Liberty, and Pinnacle).

Are you having the same problems with the West Coast servers (Champion, Guardian, Justice, Protector, Virtue)?

Along with the CoH Helper log, please post a log from running HiJackThis as well.
  10. It doesn't provide all of the same information, just some of it.

Since CoH Helper won't run, that leads me to suspect other problems. This TF2 and hl1.exe may be another symptom of the problems.

Post the log from running HiJackThis so that we can see what else is happening with your system and maybe find a resolution.

You may also want to go ahead and download, install, update and run a scan with the free version of MalwareBytes and then remove any problems it finds.
  11. I suspect you are running an Intel video solution.
  12. Nope, you don't. That's why CoH Helper put your OS in yellow, since it's something that's needing updating.

MSE should be in your System Tray, you may need to click the arrow to see all the ones it can't load into the tray. Looks like a little green house or castle with a flag on top. You should be able to open it from Start > All Programs > Microsoft Security Essentials.
  13. First things first, update Windows Vista to Service Pack 2. You don't even have Service Pack 1 installed. Once you've updated to SP2 make sure that you install all updates from Windows Update.

I'd recommend setting an exception in Microsoft Security Essentials for your CoH installation directory. Open MSE, click the Setting tab, click the Excluded files and locations listing in the left column, click the Add button and point it to your CoH installation directory. Your installation directory is C:\Games\City of Heroes

If you are launching CoH through Steam, don't. Instead, use the CoH updater to launch the game. I've seen problems reported with people running it through Steam. They resolved it by uninstalling Steam and reinstalling the game from the download link on the Account page on the PlayNC site.

I've seen reports of a problem when a Pen is installed but don't recall what it is.
  14. First, post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings.

Then, post a log from running HijackThis. This will show what else is going on on your computer while you are playing CoH.
  15. flashrains, post a log from running CoH Helper as it will give information about your system and the CoH installation and settings.

Then, post a log from running HijackThis. This will show what else is going on on your computer while you are playing CoH.

OverlordOutpost, please start your own thread detailing your problems and provide the logs from the programs listed above. The instructions for resolving flashrains problems may be different than yours, and it can get very confusing when giving instructions. Also, those trying to help can get confused with mulitple issues in the same thread.

This (so far) solved my complaint of CoH crashing 10 seconds into the game. My post is on this forum as well. The crashing was random, so I'm giving it some time to tell for sure.

I can copy that email if it would satisfy your need to disbelieve me.

Hold on, I'll find the links of others having this problem.
Would you care to point out to me where exactly I said that I disbelieve you?

That was never said or implied in any of my posts here. I simply asked how you had an outdated version of DirectX installed and how it got on your computer. I also stated which versions of DirectX came with Vista and the various Service Packs.

Not a bit of that is saying that I disbelieve you. Asking questions to clarify something you said isn't saying I disbelieve you, it is merely seeking clarification and information.

Perhaps you need to stop reading things into posts that aren't there.

Now, in your post you say you have DirectX 9 on your computer and that CoH Tech support says you need to keep DirectX 9 updated. Ok. That answered the two questions I asked plus gave some additional information.

It raises more questions in my mind, but I'll just leave them there since asking them may cause you to accuse me of other things that I didn't say.

I was having errors in an outdated version of DirectX but tried the video card drivers first, since the 10.3 drivers were having problems stalling.
    Wait. What?

How did you have an outdated version of DirectX if you are running Vista with SP2? Vista shipped with DirectX 10. Vista SP1 included DirectX 10.1 and since SP2 is an incremental update it would have installed 10.1 if you skipped SP1.

What version of DirectX do you have that can be outdated and how did you get it on your computer?

It already has been used outside of AE.

There were two new arcs added to the blueside with I17 and two new arcs added to the redside with I17.

Both arcs introduce us to the doppleganger tech and it pretty much used throughout the arcs.

I have not been able to duplicate this error on Live or Test with WinNT6 or WinNT5 against my own RadeonHD cards.
That was sort of what I expected to hear. Had there been any problems with those drivers I was certain you'd have let us know either here on on the Test server forums if it was discovered on Test.
  22. Glad to hear you got it running Jade_Warrior.
  23. I've seen people not use the recommended steps for running Driver Sweeper and there isn't enough information in the post to make it clear when or how the OP ran Driver Sweeper.

Also, I've not had this issue pop up going from 10.2 down to 10.1 for Issue 17 testing then to 10.4 and now to 10.5 so I'm curious what drivers the OP was using before upgrading, what OS they are using (including Service Packs if applicable), and video card.

There just isn't enough concrete information there to tell much of anything.

EDIT: If it were simply an issue with the 10.5 drivers we'd have had many more reports about it. I know that je_saist is likely running the 10.5 drivers, or at least did until the 10.6 drivers were available for testing and I know several other posts I've seen with CoH Helper reports have shown the 10.5 drivers in use. And this is the first post I've seen about this problem. It seems rather isolated but there really isn't enough concrete information there to go on.
  24. Have you tried installing Driver Sweeper (a free program) then uninstalling the CCC and driver files, rebooting into Safe Mode and running Driver Sweeper to get rid of the residual files?
