Well you could always redo it later.

i entered the contest since i could use a new case even if it comes without an entire system. Personally i'd rather be at PAX, but i'm just a little bit too far to go right now since i have a lot to take care of at work.

Well, the 'apparent' reasons. We don't know what the devs are thinking - we have to draw conclusions based on our knowledge of computers and businesses.

And, by the way, this isn't a debate. I'm not espousing any particular position - I'm explaining what I think the devs' reasoning is. The only people it would make sense to debate with is those who have made the decisions regarding maintenance schedules.

For my own purposes, they could schedule it any time during the day since I'm at work. It would have no effect on me at all. I have no personal bias or preference here. *BUT*, because of how businesses operate, I really don't think it's going to be changed.
Ricktu's most obvious option if they want answers is to start emailing NCsoft and/or PMing the Devs and the community Mods and anyone else who might *reasonably* have direct knowledge and/or a say in the scheduling. Bear in mind that i doubt that the Dev team or community Mods themselves have any direct say in this. In my opinion the odds favor NCsoft as being the most directly involved in the server setup. That's not to say that they're likely to feel the need to respond and explain, but NCsoft management is most directly in charge of the servers AFAIK and also very unlikely to read the boards here.

The same advice applies to halfflat as well as Ricktu. This is assuming that either one is actually interested in answers rather than posting arguments and complaints to the forums.

Edit: i'm not suggesting they constantly send messages demanding an answer. Just that if you actually care about the hows and whys that you try contacting those most likely to know. Be prepared to accept no or possibly no response at all as an answer. If no one will reply then resume [complaining]* with a clear conscience.

*Using a far more polite synonym for what i was initially going to write here. You can thank me later. Or not at all. Whatever.

I ask because I've missed a couple of driver updates and thus never installed the 11.6 or 11.7 Catalysts. And I can't report having any crash issues.
Well, i'd uninstalled 11.7 and used Driver Sweeper before installing 11.8, but i'm also running the 64 bit version of Windows 7. Are you using 32 or 64 bit?

As already mentioned all retail boxes come with the code printed on something inside the box. With MMOs, and most other online games, the code is the important bit that enables the extras for your game account. That's why you can just as easily buy upgrades and add-ons for online games digitally as you can in a store.

*locates and checks inside Good VS Evil box* The game code for the Good Versus Evil edition is under a scratch-off strip on the back of the Pocket D VIP Pass that comes in the box. The back of the VIP Card says "City of Heroes Good Versus Evil Edition Serial Code Access Card" on the top and the scratch-off strip is at the bottom.
Edit: Go to your NCsoft account management screen and use the code to upgrade your account. This will unlock the goodies on your account and give you 30 days of subscription time. Do not use it to create a new account. Since you already have an account you should always apply codes as upgrades to that account.

By the way, this is also why it's never a good idea to buy a used box for an online game. Any code that gives bonuses or play time can only be used once. No honest retailer will resell an opened box for an MMO type game since it's generally no longer usable, but there are a few chains/stores out there who do it anyway. Just a warning of what to watch out for in the future.
  6. Quick question: Did you add both the codes to your City of Heroes game account at the NCsoft account management page? There is only one client for the game, what determines whether you have access to various game features is whether you've applied the various codes to your CoH account.

Remember to apply any/all codes to the same account. Unless you're planning to play on more than one account at a time.

Especially in the late game with Power Sink and Energize to help offset endurance costs.
OTOH 6-slotting the toggles is handy if you're planning to go for the 6th slot set bonus in some of the res sets.

As far as D&D playing a role in the evolution as a key point in RPGs does no mean it's not trash and just because something is trash doesn't mean you don't respect what it did for whatever. And like you said about popularity... being a key point doesn't make it quality either.
Ugh, you didn't read the part about Stormbringer very closely then. The author makes it rather clear that while he was first familiar with Stormbringer from it being in D&D he was aware of its source and appearances elsewhere. Also, you alleged it was the wielder that made the sword significant, but the article makes it very explicitly clear that it was the properties of the sword itself that fascinated him.

    Eh, i know, i know...

    References!
Considering the pop culture references sprinkled throughout the game it seems entirely plausible.

Of course in the case of the Devouring Earth it also makes sense in that Tellus is an obscure alternate term for the Earth since Tellus was the Roman goddess of the Earth. The first time i remember seeing the word Tellurian used was either in EE 'Doc' Smith's Grey Lensman series or Skylark of Space series. So there's no guarantee that the writer wasn't inspired by mythology or other writers instead of Star Trek. Especially since the CoH version uses the correct spelling of "Tellurian".

Btw, is Howling Twilight a rez for one fallen ally or every fallen ally within range? I read the power's description in MIDs, and the way it's worded, it sounds like a group rez.
Howling Twilight is an awesome debuff and mez that will also resurrect every fallen ally within its radius. To be honest i generally use it far more often as a debuff and mez than as a rez, but it can work very well as one.

On the original Hami raids my Dark would sometimes rez 12 or more people at a time after a wipe. Of course the aggro generated from using it would faceplant my Def a second afterward, but it was hilarious to see a dozen characters rising up and running like mad.
  12. Went with the 11.4 drivers and no crashes at all. Even ran a Lambda and a BAF back to back with no issues.

Here's hoping the 11.9s work out better for me when they come out.

To me the ending felt a little rushed and forced, but i agree that it was pretty well handled. That was one of the few titles i had on my pull list, the rest of the DC comics i've been buying i look at each issue before deciding to get it unless it's storyline i'm already following. Power Girl had been mostly good and i'd picked up a few of the recent issues of Birds of Prey, so with the reboot i'll probably not be buying much until i see a few issues.
  14. Well, was using the 11.8 drivers and roughly every half hour or so the client would freeze without warning. A couple times after clicking several times i would get the "Program is not responding" popup from Windows, the other times i got bored and shut it down with task manager.

When i rolled the drivers back to 11.7 it didn't lock up without warning anymore, instead it would randomly, occasionally lock up when exiting a mission. The loading bar would reach about 33% and freeze there.

With both sets of drivers and the 6950 i wasn't running any iTrials or the like, just soloing and regular teaming.
i guess i'll try the 11.4 drivers and see how those go.

    Edit: System specs-
    Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.110622-1506)
System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
    System Model: P55A-UD4P
    BIOS: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
    Central Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
    Memory: 4096MB
Video Device Name: AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series (Sapphire Toxic HD 6950 running at the standard settings for that model.)
Manufacturer / Chip: ATI Technologies Inc. / ATI display adapter (0x6719)
    Video Memory: 3824 MB
    Driver Version: 8.872.0.0
    Driver Date: 7/7/2011 11:28:26 PM

Edit again: Also, on my older ASUS EAH4870 i'd been using the 11.7 drivers with just the occasional client crash when i'd been playing for two hours or more, usually in an iTrial. My FF/Rad Defender was crashing rather consistently in iTrials until i made an /unloadgfx macro and used it once or twice per iTrial. Had no crashes at all when i did that.

  16. New card arrived today.
11.7 (current) and 11.8 drivers downloaded.
Now to uninstall current drivers and card then put in the new card (Sapphire Toxic HD 6950) and install 11.8.
    Wish me luck.
  17. Oh, hey, welcome back!
When i saw your name i was wondering if it was you, and when i saw the avatar i was certain.

i had a different name and avatar last time you were here, but that's probably for the best.

As for BAB... Not much was said on the forums.
  18. Hmmm, so what drivers would be most stable with a Radeon HD 6950 when playing CoH? i've got one en route right now, so i have plenty of time to get the appropriate drivers.

They aren't. A lower tier Premium player can use Points to unlock them, and they unlock automatically at a higher tier. (Don't recall which one.)

Also, if you click "save chat settings" button at the bottom of the main options menu it will save all your chat channel tab settings and add all your channels to the same tabs for each character when you click the "load chat settings" button next to the "save chat settings" button.
