I can vouch for this. I once complimented JLove's hat, and he awarded me Bug Hunter. True story*.

    * and by "True story," I mean, "completely fabricated".

This. I had a fairly wheezy old machine that could play CoH but it drove me crazy how long it took me to zone. I upgraded it to 4GB and zoning went from a couple of minutes to about 30 seconds.
  3. By the way when I mentioned upthread that I'd seen multiple Thug/Storms in action and that they were incredible, it was Smurphy who did the demo for me. IIRC, he set the mission to +4 and still demolished everything. I'd listen to his advice, the man knows his stuff.

I'll second that. I duo'd my kin with a friend's spines/dark several times and it's a sick combo. The stun aura in DA also helps make things quite a bit safer for the kin.

I never would have thought of this myself, but I've seen in it in action, it's incredibly effective. Stacked Freezing Rain is devastating.

Yup, I have to agree with you there. I ran into that exact situation last night. Did not like.

    MA XP balance

I initially used MA and had some fun with it, but the various changes to control the rampant exploits killed my interest in it (I wasn't creating eploitive missions, but the XP for my custom groups dropped through the floor). However, with the i17 changes of doubling file size and having custom XP on a per-power basis, I think it might be time to revisit it.

But those of you who are MA masters, tell me: what do you think of the current balance of XP in MA? Can I create a custom group that's roughly equivalent to a standard game enemy group and have players get roughly the same XP?

I guess what I'm asking is: have they gotten the XP balancing right or should I sit it out for a while longer while this gets further refined/tweaked?
  8. Don't forget to /bug it in game folks. I've seen many instances of issues that were well known to players that completely escaped dev attention for months because they frequently get too busy to monitor the forums. But a substantial number of bug reports will get noticed!

I wouldn't go so far as to say stats are worthless. It's good to know where you stand so debates about powers don't just become shout-fests.

That said, I agree it shouldn't all be about min-maxing. It's a game, and having fun is the goal. For example, I have several blasters and I know that my AR blaster isn't as effective a killing machine as my Fire blaster. But AR was and is incredibly fun to play for me. The ride all the way to 50 was great.

For some people, min-maxing IS what fun is all about, and for them the game becomes all about the numbers. That's cool. But I think for most of us the numbers are only one aspect, taken in concert with aesthetics of a powerset, concept, etc. If you want to be a camo-wearing leader of a squad of fearless soldiers, Demon Summoning just ain't gonna do it for you.

No reason to take Medicine. With Twilight Grasp you already have a powerful heal that you can use on yourself or others. And if you want a rez you can use on teammates, just carry or make wakies when you need 'em. Or get the Professor and Caregiver day job badges to get a handy rez power.

A case could be made for Leadership; the +Def from Maneuvers would stack nicely with the ToHit debuffs in your Dark powers. But it's not a huge amount of defense (somewhere around 4% slotted) so unless you've got a build that has a lot of +Def to stack with it, it won't be that hugely helpful. And there's the End draining aspect of having another toggle; I skipped it.

  12. Hard to pick just one, so....

    Blaster: Fire/EM
    Controller: Fire/Kin (I know, I know.)
Corruptor: Fire/Dark (an incredible combo of offense and utility)
Tank: Ice/Stone (stone hammers, so smashy, so fun)
Brute: SS/Shield (only uber if you have a BIG budget)
Scrapper: Fire/SR (much, much easier to softcap than the brute)
Dom: Mind/Fire (invest in absurd amounts of recharge, get absurd amounts of fun)

The biggest factor it seems to me. You don't have to pay much at all for spirit thorns. Is that because the currency amount lessens when you buy spirit thorns?
Of course scarcity is what is responsible for prices of 500M or more. The point I was trying to make was that the quote was trying to set up a tautology, i.e. price of more than 500M is an automatic signal that something is too rare and should be made more plentiful. What I was pointing out was that while it is a signal of rarity it is not necessarily more rare than the devs intended and because of the ever increasing amount of currency in the game economy, it's not surprising to see ever higher prices on rare goods.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against bumping up drop rates (especially on PvP IOs), but your statement is incorrect. The other factor in the escalating prices of IOs is the amount of currency in the system. There aren't many inf sinks in this game but there's a torrent of new inf being created every day. As ever more currency chases a small pool of goods, you get inflation.

You can debate the philosophy if you want, but you'd basically be arguing to repeal gravity.

Yes it is a longstanding problem. But until now it hadn't been the topmost problem.

As to folks saying that this solution is inelegant and the devs should've waited, see Arcanaville's comments up top.

Quit pussyfooting around. You're like a female character in Pride and Prejudice, all mannerly and talking obliquely around the subject. Just tell us how you really feel already.
  17. Sounds like fun. Let us know how you do. I expect that lots of Nemesis = lots of stacked Vengeance = lots of challenge for Shield and Ice tankers.

Yes. While Fire might not, I certainly will. STOP PLAYING BURGERTIME.

Look, the fact is you suck at Burgertime. This is upsetting to serious Burgertime players like me. My Burgertime guild and I were chatting over Vent last night and we all agreed that your continuing participation in our beloved sport is an affront to our collective honor.

I've trained for years on this game. It cost me my marriage, my job, and the respect of my children. I don't care. It's all been worth it. I have been petitioning the IOC to make Burgertime an official Olympic sport. It sickens me to see dilettantes like you trivializing this sport of kings.

    Burgertime is serious business, bub.

In some limited situations, yes. Where I typically will use an HO is when I'm a little tight on slots on a power. An Acc/Dam HO gives a bigger enhancement than a comparable IO. There are also a couple of powers that aren't meant to be enhanced in a particular way but you can use HOs to work around that limitation. But since I generally am looking to get IO set bonuses, most of my builds have no HOs at all.

General tip: if you're frankenslotting (going for max power stats, ignoring potential set bonuses) pay special attention to IOs that enhance 3 or 4 aspects. By stacking a few of those in a power you get amazing results.
  21. While Dechs' suggestions are the very epitome of thoughtfulness, the devs have a lot on their plates right now.

I have a simple suggestion that will make this game bigger than WoW, and it requires no coding resources at all!

Get Oprah to recommend it. Her millions of zombie-like minions will immediately subscribe. Maybe she could issue a press release that mentions the exciting new Dual Pistols set, "I thought I'd seen it all, but when I tried DP with CoX, well, I haven't been that excited in years."

I agree that if someone didn't know you they'd think you were just blowing smoke. A lot of players would be surprised that someone could accumulate that level of in-game wealth. But a bit of searching of your post history in the Market forum should allay fears there, I'd think.

My only suggestion to you is to make sure your deadline extends beyond i17 going live. They've announced improvements to Mission Architect, although we have no details yet. It'd be good for the arc(s) you're commissioning to be able to take advantage of the latest/greatest.

Nah, as soon as BaBs gets done tweaking Ultra Mode, he'll have tons of time to do that.
