Quote:No, but you suggested it to us. So one of us responded. So you purged the names personally? Wow I wish I had that power...
Then you tried to invoke the Devs, changing the rules on us.
Seriuosly, my response was (quite clearly) a hypothetical. It was also, incidentally, on-point: people who suggest a name purge think it means they'll get the names they want, but the Dev's previous experience indicated the purge wasn't as useful as they had thought. And to the degree that it IS used, it might be used by someone else to get the names you covet, leaving you just as frustrated.
In the meantime, names like Sky God are still available on popular servers after nearly 6 years of flying Storm and Lightning characters. It's not as hard as people make it out to be. -
Okay, but what's the enhancement percentages on the powers with Multi-Strike? Are you using 50s, or something lower for exemplaring? I like to frankenslot (or semi-frankenslot) the PBAoEs for the best damage and recharge, and good-to-very-good accuracy and endurance reduction. The area attacks affect a lot of foes and are big, flashy attacks; I try to get the most out of them. So I try to push my slotting-for-softcap sets into other powers if possible.

Quote:But, the last nine levels are some of the best content. You are a mature hero with (finally) slots, and you start to take on the most serious enemies in the game. You and your team have enough powers and slots to do the fun stuff and not just the bare-minimum-to-keep-progressing stuff; you're more than just defenses and an attack chain, more than just a buffer/debuffer.Well, considering that the OP pointed out that he hasn't been rushing his character and thus assuming he's not, in fact, an AE baby, it might be he's tired of the journey and just wants to cross the arbitrary finish line - can't blame him too much for that.
Recently I've hit 50 on a new character who spent a lot of time soloing, marketing, and just sort of messing around. It's not that hard, especially if you join some pick-up Task Forces.
The question is not so much "why is there no activity on my server?" as it is, "where is the activity on my server?" Find the global channels on your chosen server and monitor them for Task Force recruiting or other team action.
When the TF is winding down, put player notes on everyone reminding you which ones you liked, even if it's something simple like "TFed," and add them to one of your friends lists if you enjoyed their company. Since I started doing that I have a pretty full plate whenever I log on. -
Quote:Looks to me like your defense numbers are a little off. It's not hard to get soft-capped on a Tanker with the Shield set.OK here is my current Tank build (note Im at work so the exact details of when I took the slots and powers may be a little off but should be fairly accurate - NOTE I took CJ much earlier but I cant remember when...).
My problem is END.
I was running in the RWZ last night and took on a Purple Boss + 2 orange LTs (random encounter).
I had no problem with Health as I rarely got hit, but after the 2 oranges where down (love AoO + BU + SC + WhirlingAxe + Sands Of Mu [have to be quick to get them all in though]) I was effectively waiting for my END to recover in order to attack the boss.
I am just starting to look at IO's (have 4 of Crushing Impact on Gash).
With CJ + Defl + BAgility + Phalanx + Weave my Def for all 3 Positions is around 36.4% with mainly yellow SO's.
Im planning on getting 2x ToD sets for an additional 7.5% Melee (taking me to ~43%) and 1 Mako for Ranged ~40.5%.
As for AoE im thinking of 2x Sirocco's for ~42% AoE (+20% Reg and +18% Acc) and only for 5 Slots (
Obviously I want to get my Def Softcapped for all 3 positions but I need Recovery.
Here's what I did:
Slotted Deflection: 23.41
Phalanx Fighting: 5 (slotting doesn't increase the defense for the player)
Slotted Weave: 7.83
Combat Jumping: 3.11 (slotted with one defense IO)
That's 39.35% from powers. Now add:
The Steadfast 3% unique IO: 3
You're now over 42%. Soooo close! And you haven't used any sets yet, just the one unique IO.
One TOD set for 3.75% melee (use one of the poorer attacks for it) soft-caps melee; add 2 slots to Super Jump's default and throw in a complete Blessing of the Zephyr set to cap ranged AND AoE.
You can't buy the -knb IO from Blessing for love or money; but you can get it with merits earned by leveling up in pick-up Task Forces. You may also have to get one or two pieces of TOD with merits. Boom, you're done -- frankenslot your attacks for maximum effect (and good end reduction!), not defense.
If the TOD is out of reach, slot your worst TWO attacks with Smashing Haymaker.

Quote:Are you using Tough and Weave? Tough and Weave add a lot to most Tanker builds' survivability, but they give a particularly high payoff with Invuln, because slotted Tough can cap out the smashing and lethal resists of an Invuln Tanker. 90% s/l resistance and "better defense through Weave" make a huge difference.Do you have numbers to support this claim? Just wondering, because my experience playing an Invul vs other Tanks leads me to see that invul is closer to the bottom of the list in terms of survivability than the top. But that just might be my perception.
Frankly I am surprised to see CMA rank Shields above Inv in his list -- when I added the fighting pool to both sets, I felt like Inv is stronger, personally. -

Post Apocalypse is a terrific posting name, though.
-
We did. The names were purged last Tuesday at noon. By Wednesday all the ones you wanted were already taken again.
Well, maybe not, but if there was a name purge, odds are good that the name you covet gets grabbed by someone else at that point and you'll be waiting another 5 years for it. -
I was working on a character on Justice today, but returned to my home on Guardian specifically to start a Task Force with some good people. Disconnected during the first mission, to discover Guardian is down for the count -- AND Justice, so no going back to my earlier activity.
Virtue's dead too. It came back up for a while, giving me hope they were all being restored, but it's dead again now.
It's enough to turn a person evil! (I have villains on Infinity). -
Quote:I'd guess that the servers went down on their own, unplanned, and thus not announced. Maybe the reason they're not back up is it's a weekend and there's limited staff to work on them?OK how come the servers are down? I mean this is kinda unannounced and that they to shut down Guardian,Justice, and Virtue. Like I don't understand the logic behind this?
Please can a Mod or a Dev post something
Uh...what? I was able to follow you at first, then I lost you. -
14-16 inches expected just west of Washington DC before it tends -- we're up to 12.0 inches officially at Dulles Airport.
Last night just before it hit people were crowding the malls, parking in fire lanes, not using turn signals, cutting each other off, braking unexpectedly, and generally acting like they were panicked. In other words, the impending snow wasn't making any difference at all in their normal driving habits. -
Reporting back -- Throw Spines has the correct (metal spikes) look for me. Check your power customization at the tailor?
-
Because it's the tier 9 power, it's off the bottom of the screen when you are coloring your powers -- you have to grab the scroll bar and drag down to see it. For that reason, the Tier 9s sometimes get missed during customization.
I do not recall having this issue on my metal spines character but I will look tonight. -
It's not capped low. In fact, it's the fastest power in the game.
Except for a few other special powers which are allowed to be faster to make up for their rather severe limitations, of course. But except for those two (or three if you want to count Teleport) special cases, Fly is the king of speed.
Well, that's one way of looking at it. I guess you could turn it around and look at it negatively if you were so inclined. -
I see you did not take Swoop. That's certainly a legitimate decision, but I like the power as part of a hard-hitting ST attack chain for bosses and above.
It looks like this would be tough to do, but I would try to move Phalanx Fighting earlier in the build -- especially since you're taking Weave relatively early. It's passive, taking no end, and it's nice defense, especially on a Tanker. One slot is fine.
I'd also switch True Grit, which makes you tougher and costs no endurance, with Against All Odds, which costs end and only boosts the damage of your (at that point) two single-target attacks. You'll want AAO before Shield Charge and the AoEs, but it can wait until after Stamina.
Speaking of which, my build doesn't have Physical Perfection or a perf shifter +end proc and I do fine for endurance -- you might not need such concentration on recovery powers. -
It's also a problem that the Jaegers are protected from knockdown and stun. Ice slick, rain, axe attacks, Dragon's Tail, Energy Melee stuns, Cobra Strike, Thunder Clap, all kinds of mitigation powers that depend on stun or knockdown won't help you against the Jaegers.

Quote:It's worth noting that Vasily Zaytsev's specific goal was to deter the Germans from ever entering his zone again. And it worked. And it usually works that way in PVP too.OK, how about this.
Stalingrad, late 1942. Vassili Zaitsev, Soviet sniper, hides and waits for a likely Nazi target to come by.
There! He sees his quarry - a German officer. He takes aim, then stands up and breaks cover to yell "Hey, you, I'm going to shoot you now, stand still!"
Instead of being seen as a war hero, even having movies (such as Enemy at the Gates) based on the stories around him, he's used for the next half century plus as a lesson on "How not to behave as a sniper."
Get what's being said? -
I think you'll find that, even without soft-capping, current defense-based Invincibility adds so much durability to an Invulnerability Tanker that you're quite happy with it (especially once you've added Tough Hide).
Meanwhile, it would add nothing at all to the (all-important) smashing or lethal resistance of an Inv tanker who took the fighting pool, because he's already capped.
My experiences exemplaring down have led me to conclude that Inv is a very solid set even without IOs at all, much less soft-capped. And defense is a big part of that. -
My traditional answer to this question has been MA/SR with Quickness, Hasten, and Super Speed, using the vet reward attack Sands of Mu for fast punching. I also take regeneration bonuses from set IOs to represent accelerated healing (as well as recharge bonuses, of course).
But the suggestions above are creative, and worth consideration; I would add perhaps Dark Melee for speed-punching, especially now that you can alter the color and tone it down. -
BABs replied to a discussion of the Invincibility bug in a way that led me to bnelieve he's now aware of it. I am hopping for a fix.
-
I think the variety in the source material (by which I mean the comic-book genre) is a big contributing factor.
On any given night, I can log on as an ancient mythological Minotaur or as a WWII fighter test pilot or as a social worker whose nightmares come to life or as a professor who crafts inertialess arrows to save his students taken hostage or as a stone spirit from Easter Island or as a fierce Ice queen bent on revenge or as a super-cool 70s blaxploitation homage in go-go boots.
Around me, the world teems with anime schoolgirls, movie villains, mad scientists, Irish heroes, knife fighters, deranged telekinetic housewives, and the occasional sentient kitchen appliance.
It's not all a bunch of knights with swords or soldiers in the same uniform. There's an inherent randomness that constantly appeals to my sense of wonder, or my sense of the absurd. -
Here's my latest effort, for the explosive hero Daisycutter. It just makes the character limit by a few strokes:
Quote:Ending the Vietnam War was the second best thing Richard Nixon ever did for his country. It also made sense to order air support for the struggling South as America withdrew.
John Smith actually loved the Vietnamese girl and their infant daughter. He came to save them. He didnt know about the mutagenic interaction of LSD and Agent Orange in the womb, nor was it his fault he was shot just outside the embassy gate.
The ARVN soldiers were fighting for their country. They knew victory was near no need to harm this woman or the child of their enemy. Leading them to safety, they didnt know theyd been spotted from the air.
The huge BLU-82 Daisycutter bomb could only be carried by a cargo plane the sort that should be carrying people to safety instead. It could not be left behind for the enemy. It had to be used.
And so a series of good decisions, taken for sound reasons, ended in this blackened clearing, a baby lying unharmed in its center.
Even though it was nobodys fault, she began to cry.
