Perhaps, but Dr Aeon's lies are more pleasing to me than Television's truths.

OP:
There's a long tradition in comics of heroes fighting other heroes, often as a result of misunderstandings not unlike the one that leads to the Vanguard/Longbow clash in this arc. Typically, after the misunderstanding is resolved, everyone goes back to being allies after having beaten on each other for half the issue. It's just a plot device to give the fans something fun and different, and I assume the same reason is why it's done in this game. That's how I simply look at it.
You can be friends again with Lt. Sefu after the arc is over. He forgives you. -
Wow, I thought I was the only one here not totally excited for GR.
Don't get me wrong, I think an expansion to the game is a great idea. But the thing with me is that I've only been playing this game for about a year, and thanks largely to Alt-itis, there is a lot of content (especially at higher levels) that I haven't gotten to yet. So while new content is always a plus, the fact is that there's still a lot of old content for me to do. Unless my friends talk me into getting it sooner (which could easily happen), I'll probably wait a good while before getting GR.
However, I know my perspective would be a lot different were I a 5 year vet (or even a 2+ year vet). I know there are a lot of players here who still love the game but haven't had the thrill of experiencing new content for a long while--if I were in their shoes, I'd be chomping at the bit for GR and any news about it too. So I don't begrudge others their enthusiasm. -
Yeah, I do know that, which is why I only play and pay for CoX. Fortunately, I can listen to the experiences of other players (like you!) who have tried other games--so far, it sounds like I've clearly made the right choice!
-
Hey, if you didn't try other products, you wouldn't be able to appreciate how superior this one is.
-
Quote:That sounds like how it worked before they added the option of picking specific powers. And you can still do it that way if you don't want to choose individual powers. Easiest way to be sure your custom mobs give full XP.That's very sad and the reason I didn't get into AE for the longest time.
This makes me wonder... coding issues aside (because I'm sure if it were easy they'd probably have already done it) is it possible to have it set up to where all AE enemies followed certain templates so the devs could have direct control over their strength basically leaving the player in charge of what they look like and say and make them pick between different power sets in terms of what abilities they would have? Does that make sense? -
I've never used the Hospital Express even on toons under level 10. Even though it makes perfect sense and would save a lot of time, there's something about dying on purpose that just rubs me wrong.
-
Quote:No question, I think it would hurt the game. But I think Radubadu is correct in asserting that we don't know for a fact that it would definitely kill the game (I'm assuming "kill" here means deplete the player base enough that NCsoft discontinues the game completely). While that might indeed happen, I hope that enough players would resist the temptation for easy influence to keep the game alive. But I'm sure we'll never find out, because NCsoft isn't stupid enough to do it something like this.I don't think the intent was to say "all players" would buy inf if NCSoft sold it. I wouldn't use it either, but I know quite a few who would simply because it would be dirt cheap to buy and take less time than farming. I would bet that enough players would use it to signficantly hurt the game.
-
While I also think it would be a terrible idea for NCsoft to sell influence, I wouldn't use the service even if it were offered--I prefer earn game rewards, not buy them. So offering such a service would not make the game easier for me and would not therefore make me bored and want to quit.
I'm sure plenty of players would use the service and most would end up quitting for the reasons you describe. Certainly enough to hurt the game, but enough to kill it? I hope we never learn to answer to that. I think we can all agree that this "cure" would be worse than the disease. -
Quote:I assume you're being sarcastic, but honestly if someone did use a power on me that forced me to level at a highly accelerated rate, I would be very unhappy. I'm not looking to rush through the game and don't want to skip content.I cant believe this! some rude rude RUDE person kept following me around yesterday and I kept getting hit with this double xp ray. It made my level skyrocket to 50 in just 12 minutes, no matter what I killed, It just leveled me, I still cant believe how rude and thoughtless someone could be to use that power on me.

My thoughts:
They should add more servers. More!
And at least one of the new servers should be called Doom. -
I understand why some people don't like drive-by buffs. I think a number of valid reasons for not liking them have already been put forth.
But I also understand why people do drive-by buffs, and why they don't usually ask permission first. And honestly, I admit I'm glad they do.
Here's my own story:
Back when I was still pretty new, I took a character into the Hollows and picked up a hunt mission from Wincott. I was at the minimum level for the zone and the only mobs I could find for my hunt mission were +1 to my level and in spawns of 6+ size. Long odds, especially for a rookie players. But I just said "what the heck, no debt for dying at this level, and maybe I'll get lucky" as I jumped in and attacked a spawn. Well, I didn't get lucky, and it was soon clear that my health was dropping faster than the mobs were.
About this time, I noticed another toon standing nearby watching me. I thought, "oh great, not only am I about to get my backside kicked, but there's a witness to my foolishness." But instead of laughing at me for biting off more than I could chew, he threw a force field around me. And because of that, I was just barely able to defeat the whole spawn with just a slip of health left. It was a great moment that really illustrated for me how wonderful this game and the player base are.
If he had asked me first if I wanted help, I wouldn't have answered simply because I was way too busy fighting. There are some players who can type and fight at the same time, but I'm not one of them. I'm grateful he just went with his instincts.
I think having a choice to toggle off "accepting buffs" under the options menu would be a great QOL change for the game and should solve this whole issue. Unfortunately, I know the Devs have to pick and choose which features to work on, and I don't know if the anti-buff contingent is large enough to warrant priority for this.
Also: how commonly do other people get hit by random buffs? I mostly solo, and I think in about a year of playing I've only experienced unsolicited buffing maybe a dozen times max. But I tend to play on lower population servers, too. Are drive-by buffs pretty frequent on Freedom? -
Quote:Well, that may explain it.The person's own rep, post count, and reg date all affect how much rep they give.
The member who gave me that one + rep last week has been registered for 3 full years (nearly 4), has over 1,600 posts, and currently has 11 green bars in his rep.
So using Ironblade's formula (thanks, that's what I was looking for!) I get:
+1 base for positive rep
+3 for being a 3 year member
+1 for having 1,600 posts
That's +5. My rep jumped by about 450 points, so his rep score would have to equal 44,500 (assuming he was wholly responsible for the increase). I don't know how to check a member's actual score. Would 11 green bars = 44,500? Do people have scores that high?
Or maybe there's another explanation. I guess it's not important, just struck me as weird. -
Anyone know exactly how rep works? My rep was 1 green dot and 37 0r 38 points when I checked it last week. Today I logged in and I have 5 green dots and almost 500 rep points. I checked all my posts from the whole last month and only found one that got a + rep by one person. Not that I'm complaining, but how did that multiply my rep so much?

I am of the opinion that special events should, if possible, occur on the weekend, should ideally last all weekend, and should be explicitly announced ahead of time. The goal should be max player participation, not limited participation.
The last Rikti Invasion weekend (or was it a whole week?) was a blast. I hope this was just a test/sneak preview, and not another disappointment like the 5th anniversary special event that was held on a single weekday. -
All of my 30+ villains have already done the Origin of Power arc at 15-19, but I do have some in the 20s that have skipped it. Next time one hits 30 I'll see if Ashley still offers it. For some reason, this question is bugging me.

One of my first toons was a dual blades/dark armor stalker I named Gloom-Knight. Back then, I was having fun but didn't really know what I was doing, and I made lots of mistakes with all my early characters. At level 17, poor Gloom-Knight had no travel power, had not even begun taking the prerequisites for Stamina, and was mostly slotted with TOs and very few DOs. Infamy-wise, he was nearly broke.
Other early toons were in just as bad a shape, but I continued playing them and "fixing" them as I learned better. But Gloom-Knight got parked at level 17, there to stagnate for months, because of an even more unforgivable problem--I coudn't stand his costume. As a "dark paladin" type of character, I had dressed him in medieval armor. It seemed appropriate at the moment of character creation, but turned out looking so clunky and awkward that it was impossible to imagine him stealthing about like the sneaky stalker he was supposed to be. More than anything else, my dissatisfaction with the costume ruined playing him for me.
Later on, I discovered that stalkers were my favorite AT villain-side, which eventually led me to revisit the idea of playing my first stalker again. But still I cringed at the idea of having to look at his awful costume. However, by this time, I was much more familiar with the costume creator, and had purchased several booster packs to boot. I started playing around with the creator and made a new Gloom-Knight costume using the stealth armor and adding some parts from the martial arts pack. The new costume had a much more modern (and stealthy) look while still maintaining the medieval theme. Not only was I pleased with it, I had to admit it was one of the best costumes I had ever created.
I logged in with Gloom-Knight and after a quick visit to the tailor to pick up the saved costume, I started him on some missions. I couldn't believe what a difference the change made, it was like playing a new character. Despite all the faults and bad choices ol' Gloomy was still saddled with, it was suddenly a joy to play him. I breezed through the next several levels as I got him to Stamina and equipped him with DOs (and soon thereafter, SOs).
There have been other characters who've benefited from a costume make-over, and it always increases my appreciation of them, but this time was the most dramatic. Gloom-Knight went from easily my least favorite toon to one of my most favorite, all on the strength of new duds. -

Quote:Cool, that should clear up some confusion. Thanks for keeping it updated!Made a note under the Origin of Power arc, explaining the unavailability of this arc between 20-29.
-
Count me as one of those people. Actually, I did get to log in for about an hour the night of the event, but in that short time I didn't even find one GM running around. So yeah, I'd love it if they did as Mousedroid suggests and make it a reoccurring thing. Even better if it's scheduled for a weekend.

Quote:Actually, I believe that arc becomes available at 30. Hence the OP found her listed as inactive when he visited her at level 21. Don't know why there's a gap between her arcs, I think it'd make more sense if the origin of power arc was available right up through 29.once you pass 20 she gives you the midnighter intro arc
Quote:Right at the top of Ashley McKnight's page on ParagonWiki it says:
Quote:Ashley McKnight is open to all villains at level 14. She is closed off at 20 or after you finish the Origin of Power arc, then will open again at 30 for the remaining missions.
Quote:The Origin of Power (14-50)
Edit: I think I remembered why Ashley McKnight is closed off at level 20-29. Darrin Wade is the Villain Midnighter Club contact in Sharkhead Isle and his arc is level 20-29. I guess they didn't want any overlap? -

Quote:My first post on this board was asking how to find this mission. Since then, I've seen the question asked a good half dozen times, always met with a chorus of "yeah, that drove me crazy too."I'd just like to say that it makes me feel less dumber to know that others have been driven nuts by that mission too!!!
I think finding the excavation site in Faultline is sort of a rite of passage for CoH. -
I believe they were initially reduced from 1.2 to .8, then later increased up to .95 after protest was raised. Personally, I would have never noticed any of this if it hadn't come up on the forums.
