    Duel Pistols

    Dual Pistols!

With an 'a'. Unless the set is designed such that you take 10 paces back from your target each time you fire, it's not 'duel' pistols!

This game IS more repetitive than any other, especially villain side, especially since I keep making new alts. By now I know every single map in the game, and I've done every mission there is. Ok, maybe I've missed to kidnap some dude, but that would mean I've missed a name, not any content.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I have to disagree. I probably know every start mission there is having a silly number of alts, and it does get tedious, but it's not more tedious then any of the other MMOs I've tried.

I've failed to do much levelling with alts in LotRO and WoW precisely because, once you are out of the basic racial areas, you are stuck with following the same paths again. WoW is better until you hit 60 and the path narrows again, but it has about the same content as CoH (CoV I cannot say, never got past level 21 villain side).

    Day jobs

    Hmmm...

We need a power which, after you have got your first badge for a particular job (say), let's to telelport directly to your last logout location with, say, a 1 hour recharge time.

We could call it... a homestone, or a jobstone, or something none copyright violating.

    Day jobs

Well, there are badges and accolades which presumably mean that there is some benefit to spending significant time on one job. Though once you have got the bdage(s) for any given job I assume you would move on to the next (assuming you want the badges and the accolade is worth the bother).

Oh, another one: log out at the Zig, Prison Guard. No idea what the reward would be. Can't think if there would be a suitable similar location in the Isles.

On Patrol/Comiting Crimes Anywhere not otherwise flagged

    [/ QUOTE ]

An interesting point: one wonders how we will know which areas are flagged as which day jobs and how we will be able to read the results of our time scrubbing 'restrooms' in city hall. (I always love the euphemisms Americans have for 'room with a toilet in it' )

Logically, the whole Midnighter's Club could give you a Historian or Archivist job.

    Some I'd like:

Any of the shops, shop assistant, probably Inf, but maybe you could build up time to get free enhancements. (Mind you, I'd like Up'n'Away and Wizard's Well to open for job purposes.)
Log out in your base to earn extra prestige as you do publicity work for your SG.
  8. My DB Scrapper has had a working attack chain with no (un-slowed) gaps since about level 10. I can't say the same about my WoW mage, or my warrior (IIRC).

Cutscenes would help a great deal, but aren't essential.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Cutscenes are apparently very difficult to do with the current mission editor (says War Witch). I doubt they will have come up with a way of making that easy enough to let mortals such as us lose on the cutscene editor.
  10. Yes, the amazing clue blindness of players never fails to amaze every plot writer. I remember on my first ever LRP event we came across one of the refs who my partner knew (she's been in LRP a lot longer than me) and we asked how things were going. "Players are being numpties as usual," was the reply.

But this is where play testing comes in. Mission Architect users who want to be successful are likely to need to learn to playtest with blind users (i.e who haven't previously seen the thing). So, back on the wishlist idea...

There needs to be a mechanism for private testing before release.

    Never going to happen.

Aside from that, yeah, "death traps" are really a major must. It's really a shame the game doesn't have that kind of thing already. I mean, the villain locking you up in an 'inescapable' death trap is just so big a part of the entire comic book genre that it has to be possible.
  12. Yeah, but you just know the players will go "but I want to be a giant robot" and then complain horribly about the consequences afterward.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love it. I bought my first superhero RPG when I got to university and discovered comics. Selecting disadvantages to give you more power at a cost is part of character creation in pretty much all of them, but there you have a real GM who can balance things so that your choice is the disadvantage it's supposed to be rather than a big lead weight dragging you back.

I do wish people would actually consider the ramifications of this kind of pipe dream before starting on it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Bless.

You call it pipe dream. I call it thinking outside the box

    [/ QUOTE ]

"Thinking outside the box" is generally a great thing if it is coupled with what is known as "common sense." Sadly, extra-box thinkers often lack the common sense attribute and can get huffy when someone else points it out. Luckily, you don't seem to be like that *beats baseball bat against palm in a threatening manner* are you..?

No, if you want to know what trouble they could get into doing a service like the one you describe, Neverwinter Nights is a great example. Bioware got around it via the simple expedient of not hosting anything. The game gave you a module editor of amazing capability, but you hosted the server yourself. What you did with it was not their responsibility. Even then, there was a lovelly case where someone tried putting a server for paedophiliacs live and openly available. At that point, pretty much the entire community wrote to Bioware and the guy's keys were revoked.

In your scenario, NCSoft would need to review the full content of every single server looking for copyright/trademark violations and inappropriate activities. They would also need enough computing power to make the NSA envious.
  14. <font class="small">Code:[/color]<hr /><pre> Honestly as I only care about PvE here I couldn't give a damn about balance as long as no sets are truly useless. </pre><hr />

I would rather be able to pick an AT and then be able to pick the powersets for my character conception without worrying how easy that will make levelling. i.e. the 'challenge' bit comes from the AT rather than a weak powerset.

So, within an AT, I would prefer to see the sets well balanced. I don't care whether Blasters are balanced against Scrappers, because they have entirely different strengths and weaknesses, and different purposes and methods of overcoming superior foes.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
The fact that people are constantly suggesting ranged sets for Scrappers just shows they want the world on a plate.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That said, every Scrapper set ought to include one (short) ranged attack -- without it, enemies running away get really annoying really soon.

    [/ QUOTE ]

More or less agreed, and I think that most of them do. I know Katana and Broadsword have 10ft range attacks. The only ones I can think of that don't are DM and DB.

Mind you, given the mob escape mechanics in this game, you're better off switching targets and letting them go. They don't bring back reinforcements, they will return to their spawn point to be swept up later. Chasing them is just a way to grab aggro.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
Dual Pistols will be for Corruptor, Blaster and defender.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Corrected.

Didn't want to stick my nose back in here, but I hate it when people make that spelling mistake/typo for some reason. It really winds me up.

Personally, cool, I've never seen the need for large numbers of ranged attacks on a Scrapper. I don't like Spines for that reason. It's supposed to be a melee AT. The fact that people are constantly suggesting ranged sets for Scrappers just shows they want the world on a plate.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
Probably just open for any 'future' feature.

An offline bonus system (just like the exp thing of WoW or sortlike) doesnt really suit the name 'secret identity'.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, Day Jobs isn't an online bonus system like any rest XP system I've ever seen, but I agree that they probably just want to leave it open for some massively future time when they can implement secret IDs properly.
  18. [ QUOTE ]
Just to be clear, I'm not talking about "private" servers. But I am - for example - talking about something like NCSoft hosting your world on one of there servers but it's effectively your game, built using their tools. People can come and join your world but they play your stories or play to your rules

    [/ QUOTE ]

Won't happen. It would require enough legal documents to fill a library and a complete vetting of the 'game world' you had created to ensure there was no inappropriate content.

I do wish people would actually consider the ramifications of this kind of pipe dream before starting on it.

There's a level cap for lesbian elves?

    Exactly!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, I suppose that's ok - female same-sex relationships didn't feature that much in the books.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Being serious, that was the problem. The majority of players on the roleplay servers had never read the books. Quite a lot of them hadn't seen the films either as best anyone could tell.

  21. Well...

CoH was my first MMO and I lucked out, it is a very good game, but I have to say I don't think it's as good as people are saying. What I can agree with is the OP's comment on the community. What kept the game interesting was the roleplay I was involved in and I really cancelled my subs when that fell apart. That and the fact I was bored silly and never played it.

So I went off and played LotRO and enjoyed that, but frankly the roleplay was lesbian elves and I hit level cap in about 4 months to discover there was nothing to do when you got there. (I hear it's improved, but nothing I've heard of has tempted me back.)

So I tried WoW again having heard that they had made some changes i liked. I did a 2 day trial (well, 7 days, but I played 2) a while back and hated it, but I got into it more and enjoyed levelling my mage, only to discover that, at level cap, all I had to do was daily grind quests.

So, here I am back in CoX after about 450 days. They had added a load of new content in that time, so something new to look at. For a game people think is great for team play, this is the best solo game around. Hit level cap in most MMOs and solo play becomes either non-existant or boring. I can still go out with my main and only level 50 and go do interesting things on my own. Back in WoW, I would need a team of 5 to have any form of interesting activities.

All round, CoX is a very good game and I'll likely keep coming back to it. I'll go back to WoW for Wrath, but that's somehow not quite the same as a game which adds a bucket of new content for you to enjoy just for the price of the subscription.

And, yes, no one has beaten the character creation in this game. It is the best bar none.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
Yes if you think there spending your hard earned in the right way then more power to you I'm just one of them curious cats who will question everything!!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Which is fine, but I don't believe this is the first time you've posed this question? (Forgive me if I'm wrong, I'm aged with a failing memory due to onset of dementia. That was partially a joke.) Repeatedly questioning the value of tweaks (there really are no nerfs going on) is not going to get people to turn around and agree with you, it's just going to result in the kind of answers you got and didn't like.

As long as they keep adding power sets, there will always be work to do on 'balance.' And while there is, there will be long and rancorous threads of complaint. Just wait until they start work on Spines... Then you'll see threads about nerfs.
  23. The same thing was suggested last week, IIRC.

Cryptic stated that they considered this kind of option when creating the game, but rejected it because it meant that new players might select something which made it horribly difficult to play the game. Example: if you are Magic origin and select something which makes you more affected by fire attacks, your first 5 levels will be Hell; way too many Hellions. Equally, if you selected something that made you take more damage from Psionics, the last 10 levels will be a trial.

Essentially, requiring the players to know how the game works intimately when creating a character is against the spirit of the game (i.e. easy to pick up and play).

well, i do think that we should have a way to walk around the city without being attacked all the time.
like when you're on your way to a tailor, getting there from an early phase is a dangerous path, so a sercet ID would help making things easier.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No it wouldn't - you'd get mugged instead

    [/ QUOTE ]
well, i have energy control so i just run like a schoolgirl in an empty alley and punch the hell out of them :P(and then kill em to keep my ID)

    [/ QUOTE ]

They will never do this because it is far too easy to exploit. Part of the 'danger' of the game is street mobs, and being able to just ignore them changes the game dynamics too much.

If you can't get to Steel Canyon Icon easily at low level, you'll probably find it way easier to get to the IP one, by running from the King's Row road entrance, btw.

Secret IDs were roundly rejected by Statesman when he was in charge. It's nice to see they have finally considered them a bit, but I think you'll find that your Secret ID will always be something that your hero does when you are offline. (At least, according to the game mechanics that will be the case.) The idea of having Secret IDs for the characters has been suggested since day one, but I don't think they will ever really implement an online play version.
  25. Yeah. Whatever.

By the way, I heard that after they printed out all the suggestions for pistol sets fourteen developers were crushed to death when the pile fell over.
