Malice on my part almost always involves me calling someone either stupid or an idiot, that's how you can tell.

If I misunderstood your intent I apologize. With the over all tone of this thread going to extremes in both directions, your post seemed to have had a certain tone at the end. The "suck it up" portion lent itself to that.

And snarks can certainly have malice behind them.

You had a point...until you finished off your post with a large dose of MALICE!

  3. In the end it really all depends on what you want to do with the tank. Personally I took Energy as well, mainly to have Conserve Power when I was out of Granite as I've focused heavily on +recharge. Being able to churn through attacks that quickly will eat into my end bar heavily. Laser Beam is pretty much an IO place holder, but it comes in handy on the Hami raids.
  4. I think some defense isn't a bad thing on a Fire tank, but certainly isn't required. My Fire/Fire/Pyre is sitting at 24% s/l defense and 70% resist to s/l and he survives quite well, even against most defense de-buffers because of the resists. I've done my best not to gimp his attacks while doing this. Weave plus a few set bonuses have gotten him there. Testing him both with or without Weave showed that Weave helped slow down what damage there was coming in even more. Again, it's not required, but it works for my Fire/Fire.

Depending on the group I'll either do FE and BU and throw a Fire Ball before attacking, or just jump in and do it while surrounded, giving BA a longer chance to do the higher damage.

As far as Fire/SS, yeah Rage plus FE for huge burst damage. Footstomp +Burn keeps them in burn a little longer.. (Fire/SM would also be great with both Fault and Tremor keeping them flopping in Burn.)

As far as SD/Elm, the few folks I've teamed with that have SD/Elm do jump into the group to let AAO's boost their damage. I certainly do that on my SD/SS tank. On a Elm/SD scrapper? All I can say is wow, talk about map clearing.
  5. I've got my SD/ELM planned a little differently then the other two examples. Not saying it's better, but it's a different direction. If nothing else this will give you another concept to give you ideas for yours.

Like Heraclea's, it's soft capped to all positions, but doesn't have the same amount of recharge as I don't have hasten. Hope it helps.

Ooops. I needed to tweak this build... here's a slightly different build. My bad.

What I purpose is that when Sally appears you have to be in Line of sight and with in range of Sally 3 times to get the badge. This means you don't BLAST the poor animal! You just have to see her to believe it's real!

Really would Superman or Spider-man attack a harmless sea animal just because it's there?

Hm... I never really felt that we were really doing any harm to Sally with our attacks. There are never any Orange numbers above her so we aren't doing any damage what so ever from the games standpoint. I always felt it was like doing a light tap on a dog's nose when they're being bad and her, Sally's, response was to hide. Be that as it may, the camera idea would be an amusing change.
  7. The Fire/SS tank I rolled up yesterday was created with the intention of taking him Red side once GR opens up.

...back to the subject at hand...
If I buff someone and I get a tell from them that says something to the effect that they didn't want/need to be buffed, I would apologize for helping them. If they continued with or included some kind of insult, I'd put them on ignore. That would not stop me from helping the next character that I saw in trouble.
    ...in the end...
It really sound like you need to take your own advice from the end of your own post!
What you posted at the beginning is unrealistic. Not being in combat, I would have plenty of time to ask if she needed help. If for some crazed reason, I did force her to cross the street against her will - which I wouldn't - I would apologize to her....just like I would another player that I was trying to help out.

[NOTE: Last night the character -- that was going red while fighting on the street that I ice-shielded, buffed, and gave 4 respites to -- did not complain. ]

I think you missed my point entirely....

What I was saying is it seems folks are getting indignant when the "help" they're trying to provide isn't well received at times. In fact, some of you seem to be getting as upset as the OP over the matter.

'Because I've helped you "Damn it" and "YOU SHOULD LIKE IT WHETHER OR NOT YOU WANTED IT!" so there!'

    ...chuckle...

If I was a Neutralist I'd be seen by the Ultra Conservatives as a Liberal, and by the Ultra Liberals as Conservative... but I would be neither a Liberal nor a Conservative.

In this discussion I stand firmly in the middle. I'm interested in the QoL that can allow folks to turn off "non-team" buffs that doesn't affect the PvP world in the manner mentioned above.

Take it what you will and have a.... whatever kind of day you prefer to have...
  9. Fire is still a viable Tank. It takes a bit more work in some areas compared to others, but my first lvl 50 tank was Fire/Fire and I still enjoy playing him. I'm considering making a Fire/SS tank in the near future.

You'll want to get at least one -kb IO early on. Some choose to go with 3, but most content is covered by a single one. You could always go Acrobatics, but most folks tend not to do so as it's a end costly power.

Adding in Tough can get your S/L resists into the high 60's/ low 70%. Weave along with Combat Jumping will give you a bit of defense. It takes a lot of work, but you can get a fire tank to the defensive softcap.

There are quite a few Fire Aura threads here and you'll see how folks approach their builds. My own Fire tank will solo missions between +0x8 and +1x8 levels and usually does quite well. Those settings aren't the toughest settings by any means, but should give you and indication of how well a Fire tank can do. I'm sure there are other Fire tanks that can do better.
  10. So... you're the kind of "Boy Scout" who would 'help' Grandma across the street and when she says 'I didn't want to cross, I'd just stopped to take a breather' would say "suck it up princess, I was just trying to help!"

    Uhm.. ok....

    Yikes.

I think we need to see if we can add aroma therapy to the forums to "chill" everyone out... with a toggle to turn that off for those with allergies or sensitive noses...
  11. I find it interesting that you can boil down the whole argument to the basic concept of this: "You are wanting to force your preferred play style on me and that makes my game less enjoyable".

Funny thing, it applies to both sides of the discussion.

There are times I find the buffs appreciated and times I don't and buffs in WW pretty much a useless kind of thing. At times the drive by buffs can feel like someone is trying to "kill steal" even though they don't.

There are certainly times when I'd prefer be able to turn off external/non team buffs after I've leveled as I'm trying to sort out if the enhancements I've chosen help, or if I need to redo things slightly. Buffs slow down/hinder that process. Same for trying to see how sturdy the current build is after IOing by doing simple street sweeping instead of going into instanced missions. A small QoL toggle for "Team only buffs" wouldn't hurt my feelings. (Mind you with as many alts as I've got I'm likely to forget to turn it back off during Rikti/Zombie/Hami raids and will bite me in the ****... )

Absolutely Arwen. Although we're shooting for a fiery aura themed event all tanks are always welcome.
  13. I keep thinking about making a new fire/? tank myself. Although I'm considering going fire/fire again..... fire/ss is very very tempting.... Perma raged fire tank... Hm.......

  14. I'd also like to give you a link here to a list of sets that add damage as well.
  15. I hope you do understand I wasn't trying to be snarky by any means. I've got a BS/Inv that will eventually be softcapped and he's pretty durable as it is and does quite reasonable damage too for a scrapper.

Beyond our prodding you to go with a different set of powers, put together a build that you're leaning towards. Are you looking to try and softcap you're Inv/SS? If so check out CMA's guilds to Inv. in the guide section.

When I said leverage hasten and recharge to get Rage up more often, it certainly will help. A full set of Guassian's in it will up your damage output and to hit by quite a bit. Getting LotG +recharge's are a very expensive way to add more recharge. Here's a list of sets that boost recharge that you might be able to leverage to help getting rage up more often. Don't forget the Law of 5. No more then 5 of any type of set/IO bonus.

Once you've looked at things a bit, post a build you're leaning towards and you'll get feedback to help you out.
  16. I think it would have to be tied into smackin down Carnies.

I agree on the emote vs. temp power as you can't target emotes.

A Jester themed Booster pack would be entertaining, but I agree, with the current costumes it would be a hard sell.
  17. First inclination would be to tell you to take hasten and get as much recharge as possible to double up Rage...

Second inclination... and this comes from someone who's big on tanks, grab a /inv scrapper and soft cap him. You'll get more damage that way.... include hasten and get as much recharge as possible there too.
  18. Ok.... I'm not sure I should be suggesting this as most of my teammates or folks on the channels I frequent would use this against me, but I'd like to see a new emote or temp power.

It would have a similar animation to snowball, but changed to a Red Ripe Juicy Tomato that can be hurled at anyone, such as myself, who's uttered a bad pun or joke that would normally get a groan or a roll of the eyes. And change the audio to a watery splat followed by either boos or snickers instead of the current snowball one.
  19. Although you had some negative responses, it wasn't as bad as I got with my Temporary PvP Zone idea.

It's certainly an interesting way to try and incorporate Gladiators into the PvE side of things. Since I don't PvP it would be fun to be able to summon a Gladiator once in a while to assist on a mission instead of letting them sit unused. I wouldn't mind seeing this incorporated, even if I never do any PvP to improve the gladiator being summoned.

A simple way of looking at a reason for them to fight for you. Appeasement. They're hoping if their one guy fights for you, you'll leave them alone.
  20. I was part of the team that took on the Clockwork King and Kraken before I had to run off to work. I was the Ice/Mace tank "Deep Gouge". Loads of fun. Glad everyone had fun as well.
  21. If I'm not working that night I will most certainly be there... considering I suggested it. I'll be on my fire/fire/pyre tank. A respec TF would be fun, but we'll see who shows.

    Thanks for posting this Nuclear.
  22. This is how I'd tweak your current build.

First of all, replace the Impervium Psi resist and the resist IO in Fire Shield with the Steadfast -kb and the Steadfast +res/+def unique. All you'd be loosing by doing this is the 2.75% mez resist, but gaining +3 defense and resist to everything else. (The Psi resist would stay the same, but you'd gain the 3% to the psi defense as well.)

Secondly I'd take the end redux IO in Plasma and replace it with the Reactive Armor triple. It's not as much end redux, but it gives you the bonus 1.25% defense to s/l.

Thirdly I'd take the slot in Weave that's currently being used for the Karma -kb that's now covered in Fire Shield and move it into Tough were I'd 4 slot a set of Reactive Armors, again giving you an additional 1.25% defense to s/l.

Fourthly, You've way over slotted Haymaker for damage, smacking hard against the ED cap. I'd just make it a full set of ToD if you can, getting a few nice set bonuses and not loosing much in the way of damage. If the damage proc hits you'll actually be doing more damage.

Finally I'd probably take you're 5th slot in Plasma Shield along with one of the slots in Fire blast and fill out Rage with a full set of Gaussian's. 2.5% defense across the board plus a 2.5% damage boost as well.

I suspect there would be other tweaks/changes I'd make, but that should give you something to think about.

Hey JanusFrs. If I'm reading it correctly New Dawn (ND) was comparing Iron General's suggested build, your current build and Her build. ND was New Dawn for short.

I think your latest build will probably work fairly well for you, but I do have a couple of comments. I suspect you're still going to have problems with endurance and if you're willing to take one slot out of Jab and throw it into health so that you can slot the Numina's +rec/+reg unique you'll be happier. I'd lean towards three slotting Jab with something from the stun IO sets, probably Stupify for the HP bonus if you remove the fourth slot.

If you're going to get the four usual accolades remember to toggle them on so you can see how they effect your build.
  24. It's hard to help you without knowing what your build is now, or what you're wanting to do with your build. If you don't have the Mids Hero Planner get it and put what you've currently got going into it. When you're done with that post the build here.

More information will make it easier for folks here to help you since we won't be fumbling in the proverbial "dark".
