They are a treat from the doors when wearing the costume.

You mean besides fury on a brute? While it is not specifically directed at whoever struck them, I would say that this system certainly shows feasibilty in a system similar to the one in your question.

  9. Out of all my deletes, only 2 do I regret.

    1) Bia - a Grav/Force Controller. My first character created. She got to around level 14 or so. I should have kept her but, I knew I found the sets boring and could not slog through it. Plus, I had moved servers with my friends so, didn't know anyone on the old one anymore. But, still ... she was my first.

    2) Rad's Pyro - Fire/ Rad Controller. He was level 50. Deleted because I ran out of slots on Pinnacle. This was before purchasing slots or transfers. I try to justify it in my mind saying he did not play the same after ED and the imp nerf. While that is true, I still regret it.

You don't understand the context. Ok cliff noters version. PvP has never been a big draw in this game. People did it but, was never big. The devs spend resources to attract more people to the system (i.e. Issue 13). We both agree it failed, no? Were those resources spent wisely? I don't think so, and in hindsight it may have been better had they not bolted on a PvP system to a game that was designed without it. This has nothing to do with the RP reason for PvP. I agree that in the context of the game PvP should exist.

    Quote:
Yes, you're right. the time spent on i13 would have been much better spent on something else than on pvp but this is entirely because the devs went about implementing and chagning it all wrong. They f**** it up, plain and simple, and simply washing their hands of it and, literally, stoping all communitcation, support, and ties to pvp in anyway shape or form isn't the way to go about it. Spending 1 issue on pvp and/or base raids(which also wouldn't be enough to make up an entire issue obviously) could have a very positive impact on the community. bring in old pvpers that left because of pvp changes, bring in new ways for current players to experience pvp, and make your current pvp community much much much happier.
In my opinion, it should never have been spent in issue 4, issue 6-12. Now, before you go into the whole non PvPer thing and not understanding. I have no problem with PvP. I have participated in it in other games. I have never liked PvP in this game. Not due to story or that it shouldn't be in it but, because I have never liked its implementation in this game - issue 4, issue 6-12, issue 13. They all sucked, IMHO. For different reasons but, sucked none the less. And in hindsight they should not have spent time on those systems. Yes, it is selfish of me.

To me that one snippet you qouted from that post was out of context because, the PvP ship has sailed for this game. The future is PvE. Sorry, you don't see it that way. But, the old PvP community is not coming back even with reversion to issue 12. This is a 6 year old game. It is unlikely that those that are interested in this game for PvP have not already tried it and are either here playing such as yourself or macskull or they have already left do to the changed made. It would accomplish one thing only. appease those that remained. Not that I think that is a bad thing.

    Quote:
whats the reason to RP? whats the reason behind badging? whats the reason behind pve in general? fun. plain and simple. pvp, generally speaking, was/is very fun for its participants. even in it's current very watered down state, its still more challenging and difficult than any pve content (exception being CoP but you wanna talk about having no reason to play something....)
Yes, we are all here for fun.

    Quote:
Also, just to point out, this is why the large majority of the pvp community wants a reversion to pre-13 because you're right, it makes no sense what-so-ever now. A reversion would be an immediate fix, or rather a do-over, make the community much happier, and be the least time consuming/resource consuming anwser.
As I stated, I hated the pre-i13 PvP so reversion to that state will not impact me. I will not draw be back to the zones any more then issue 13 got me to stay. I hope you get your wish.

Probably just get one freespec (the build you choose to use it on will be up to you). I say that since freespecs cannot currently stack. I'm doubtful they will change the code to allow stacking just for this one instance. I won't say never but, still find it doubtful.

Of course, you could use that one now and wiat for the next one to do the other build which would still be valid until then.

Personally, I like carnies. I know most don't so, I avoid them on teams but, if I am solo, it's on. I find them to be interesting rather then annoying. The combination of dark, psi, and end drain. That is just cool and fits their background well. Sure, I could go fight Council which are push overs but

That doesn't mean that finding a team via broadcast or other standard methods that a new player would try isn't more difficult.
My post was actually more a jest at Smurphy's frequent posts in this thread saying that anyone who likes a smaller sever and saying they can find teams just fine on said server is burying their head in the sand. You see, the fact that I can find teams on a smaller server is not mutually exclusive with me seeing a reduction in my server's population.

    Quote:
As an Issue 1 veteran, I would be pretty pathetic if I couldn't find at least some folks to team with. The difference is, of course, how much easier it is to get a team on Virtue or Freedom. You basically can just stand there and get random invites. I was on for 35 minutes last night and got about 4 invites on Virtue. I can tell you that hasn't happened to me on Infinity or Victory in a good long while.
Natually, there is more of everything on Freedom and Virtue because there is more players.

    Quote:
And I think it is good that you educate new players on how to get a team more effectively on lower pop servers, but are you managing to catch every new player that joins the game? Are you managing to catch every new player before they build up a high degree of frustration and maybe think that it isn't worthwhile anymore?
Oh I know I don't catch everyone but, it is not my responsibility to. I am happy to help them when the question comes up though. Again, a little poking fun at Smurphy's insistance that telling people how we find teams is calling those people stupid.

    Quote:
For the most part, in most MMOs, people use general broadcast to look for teams. That's not something alien, and it used to work pretty well in this game up til a while ago. If that dynamic has changed, then it means something more needs to be done to make it easier for new players to get a feel for that. Whether it is an improved tutorial or whatever.
Ignoring the we aren't most MMOs retort. :P ... An improved tutorial would be great. There is lots left out; for instance the search functions and global channels, and much more. Hopefully, the devs will address that in the future.

[quote]If people are having trouble running into players in the street, then where exactly are they going to keep hooking up with veterans to guide them to the right place for the experience they are looking for?

Remember, this is about responses that have been made to others posting in these very forums. They already know where to go. This is not to say all new players do that or come here and that should be addressed in game.

    Quote:
In my mind it's not right that it should be this way in the first place, we are not any more heavily instanced than we were 3 years ago, but the streets are emptier(save for 2 servers out of 11).

Again, it is easy to sit in a comfortable bubble and say: 'I'm fine so there's nothing to worry about'. But there are also people external to the game who spread all sorts of crap about COX and jump on stuff like this. And there is no one telling people any different. NCSoft certainly isn't.
You right, it is not right. But, that is the way it is. In part, because new players are encouraged to go to Freedom or Virtue both on these forums and outside of them, at this point. Virtue and Freedom have always been the largest servers one being the beta server and the others agreed to by the community involved as being the home of RP. What it comes down to, the problem is not with the overall player population (at least yet) but, with the distribution of them.

Is population declining? yes. Should that be addressed by the devs and publisher? yes. Do I think merging the servers for a perception of more player subscriptions is the answer? No. Do I know what the solution is? No but, marketing of the game sure would be nice. I could thing of a few more, like locking new character creation on Freedom and Virtue. or may SD (server diversification) I think you can see where that idea goes :P. Ok, I'm not serious about those two.

Again, saying "here is how I find teams on a smaller server" is not saying that "I'm fine so there's nothing to worry about." It is this leap that Smurphy makes that I have the problem with. As I stated before, one is not mutually excluse to the other. I can still find teams but, worry about the declining populations.
