Thanks for the reply though. One on the team had a 39 thankfully.

Also forgot what a pita the rockwall is. once we hit about 6k life left the dps came to halt and the healthbar hardly moved.
Usually a cairn or other buffing DE pet has gotten stuck behind the wall. The only real solution is to avoid using knockback powers or push powers that would place any spawns/ambushes behind the wall where they then plant the pet.

You might be able to defeat the pet using AoEs but you never can tell where exactly it is behind the wall.
  2. Must be traded and not given. If you give it to someone, the +/++ will be stripped off of the enhancement, AFAIR.

Makes it salable on the AH if you do it that way however.
  3. Still happening even after the server reset this morning?

I just skimmed the responses, and I apologize if this is repeating anyone's post.

Just remember that the server population at the time you log in is sorted in reverse order, with the exception at the very top (it's the last server you logged into).

This means that the lowest server on the list has the highest population during the time that you're interested in playing.

Most of the time it means that Freedom is last (highest population), but I've seen Virtue overtake Freedom at times. The other servers can vary dramatically in placement over a 24 hour period and even during the week, so either they are fluctuating heavily or they are fairly close in population size.

Choosing a new server should also reflect the time at which you play, there's little point in choosing a high population server during its lowest traffic period if there are others that are busier.

    And no, I'm not joking.
  6. My laziness knows no bounds. I usually just target something 'oh close enough' and go with the AoEs. There's usually a General in there somewhere...once everything else has dropped he'll reveal himself. Or the counter will drop by one on the navigation and I can run off.
  7. Thanks for the suggestions...now to invade new zones and find some newbs.

I'm sort of curious as to why you'd only be getting 40% of that same performance on Cider. Although given my propensity for knocking Nvidia on the quality, or lack-thereof, on their drivers, that could be why.
There are specific areas in the game which slow the game severely, such as the RWZ base and Grandville. Of course, those may not necessarily be graphics constrained but Cider bottlenecks. This issue has been listed in CuppaManga's guide here, although I believe the discussion around the specific details about the performance degradation was based in the beta mac section of the now defunct old forums. So the 40% can be more like 20% for very short instances but feels like 40% when 'averaged' by gut feel over a few seconds. Also at extreme cases like rikti ship raid herding or cim herding (where you get 50+ mobs in a small area), I think the Mac client suffers worse than the windows client, although I haven't tested this out in a long time.

As for performance overall, I can play smoothly at 2560x1600 on the same hardware config windows side but on the mac side 1920x1200 is more realistic for smooth performance. I haven't tested much at lower resolutions, since going much lower for me is too drastic a change in the gaming experience to bother, although the frame rate improves dramatically.

Additionally, there is no anti-aliasing or other goodies available on the Mac client currently, although I'm crossing my fingers that AA etc. will be available with Ultra on the Mac.

I could try a more definitive test to get at the wheres and hows of where CoX Mac side is underperforming, as I do have a fair bit of Mac Hardware here as well as Windows stations, but since the Mac version has performed well enough for my limited needs (I just use windows7/GTX280 for my primary CoX), I've just been too lazy to look at submitting any further performance profiles.

This may change if I have early enough access to the Mac Ultra port (if any, has anyone actually confirmed Ultra support for the Mac client?).

If I want to stick with an iMac, I would NEED to go with the high end 27", as its ATI Radeon HD 4850 is the only one that's better than the NVidia 9800 GT.

I'm sure Mac Pro, Mac Mini, and MacBook users also will at some point want this question addressed.

Thanks for the other info, though.
Probably the best person to PM about this will be Ghost Falcon. If you are keenly interested in finding out if your Mac can handle Ultra mode, perhaps you can ask if you qualify for mac beta testing.

From what I've seen on Mac performance of CoX, there is significant overhead from using a non-native port under Cider. However, this doesn't mean that the game will be unplayable/unenjoyable.

Ultra will likely be the best implementation of a Cider port so far, since Paragon is basically rewriting the graphics engine at this point, and they have the Mac port in mind instead of trying to fit in the mac as an after the fact implementation.

Right now I would estimate that the current mac implementation runs at 40%-70% GPU efficiency of an identical windows platform. With Ultra you'll probably see 70%-85% GPU efficiency. (The first numbers are seat of the pants numbers by taking my 8800GTX off my windows box and plunking the same card into my hackintosh - identical hardware otherwise).

Therefore I would guess that the 27" iMac with the 4850 would be the minimum for Ultra mode on MacOS, and it would probably struggle a bit under the native resolution. You probably would want to use Boot Camp to switch to a native windows environment to run Ultra CoX, or switch to a lower resolution under the Mac.

Mac Pros would have to use 4870s or GTX285s and most likely there would be significant benefit from running natively under boot camp as well. I don't think there is any SLI native support for the Mac (and/or Cider) so it will have to be Fermi or 58x0 cards only as a potential upgrade path for Mac Pros (over what is currently available).

I never said that people do the logical, efficient thing. And besides, for the leecher, it IS the logical efficient thing if they want to get more for less (or something from nothing). It just isn't the logical and efficient thing for the whole.

Thanks for taking my analysis and overreaching with it. You may as well be Bartleby the Scrivener with that type of reasoning.

With SSK allowing for a many to one SK to mentor relationship now, instead of just sub level 35s laying about, banning them would just mean level 35s laying about in a ship raid.

Probably a better idea than an outright banning would be to institute a timer just like in PvP zones. Lay around for 2 minutes and get auto TP'd to a hospital.

Edit- I'm not sure if the "your playstyle" was intended to be generic or me particularly, but I'm not referring to a personal playstyle. My posts are talking about controllers in general. [further edit for clarity] In other words I have some controller builds that play very aggressive like my fire/kin's farm build or some that play passive like my earth/TA and all points in between, including my fire/kins team build. All I'm saying is that you (generic you) can't make blanket statements that fire/kins shouldn't take flight and/or they really need the fighting pool, because they don't.
Um, the discussion is focused on the idea of why fly isn't in most of the published fire/kin builds. I think you're reading more into it as a personal stake as such.

I don't think the OP or anyone else was bringing other powersets or ATs or even talking about the usefulness of fly. All I was pointing out was that using a farm build or soloing wasn't the only thing to look at when looking at non fly builds.

My fire/kin didn't take tough/weave and went the leadership route, yet still doesn't have fly. It's still a tight build.
  14. What's weird is that I didn't get that message.

Now I won't argue the point if we're talking a solo build, but I'd still argue in those circumstances good control IS your resistance/defense.

Also, the best control is a dead enemy means that every AT should play like a blaster and to heck with other means of playing. When talking about controllers in general I shy away from those statements. Now just talking about fire/kins, ok I can see the point, but a fire/kin doesn't have to play like a scrapper/blaster etc. They can play pure support (and quite well, I'd add) and be just as good as any other controller combo.
I don't think that deviation from the big numbers and getting in close means that a fire/kin is useless, it's just that the powersets tend to encourage it. Even as a fire/kin, there's no rule that says you can't be support as well as contributing damage up close.

If your build suits your style of play as well as your team's, then I don't see a point to changing it.

The teams I play with (I rarely solo and rarely farm) tend to try and kill each other by bringing as much aggro into one spot as possible, so having +def and getting in close really helps to keep the momentum going. Its a steamroller mentality and doesn't suit everyone, that's for sure.
  16. Thanks but you're a little late.

The immobilization protection and need to be on the ground for Fissure is a decent reason to me, but being tight on powers doesn't make sense to me. Super Jump requires the exact same two slots as fly. If you're farming, you really don't need to travel over vast distances which is where super jump has its advantage over fly. How does being short on slots come into play?
A fire/kin's efficiency is highest when within hotfeet range, since you want to be close enough for fulcrum shift to give the greatest damage boost. Of course transfusion and transference encourage being alot closer than other secondaries too.

Being in hover or fly isn't the best use of hotfeet.

Additionally, cinders is pbaoe, so it starts making sense to work the tough/weave route, although my fire/kin isn't built that way. The modern game of slotting also encourages def and recharge bonus builds, so +def is one of the primary routes to a build that can close in well, since you can slot the LotG +7.5 and other sets. Of course then hasten is a must, and combat jump is low end use defense as well.

Flight is the slowest travel power but the safest, but if you really want to maximize fire/kin damage output, it helps to be in close, close in fast and maneuver around fast. Doing the bunny hop into a mob with flashfire activating isn't very easy with flight.

Again, it's not just farming builds that have a philosophy of putting out big damage on Fire/kins. The best mez is a defeated mob, if you want to look at it from a control point of view. Add SB/ID and free powers/slots aren't as easy to get.

Edit: if you have the 60 month vet power, taking flight in lieu of SS or SJ would work, but still allow CJ and hasten to be taken as well.
  18. Hmmm, I had a big long post agreeing with most everything people were advocating in locking down the zone to 35 again, but I decided to not post since it was pretty much just a roll-up me too kind of post.

However upon refreshing this thread, I see there are some posts advocating a very harsh line for people who bring lower toons to the raid, or even inviting them onto a team.

I'm not sure I'd be as harsh. I've run quite a few ship raids on Justice, and I have seen a slight erosion in the performance of raiders overall, and I never really cared or paid attention to why they were underperforming until I saw one of our teammates level at least half a dozen times in one (smallish raid).

Most of Justice ship raids tend to go off smoothly because there is a pretty good core of raid leaders who anchor a raid. Usually we will wipe regardless of the raid composition because many Justice Raids tend to focus on mass herds of any Rikti we can get our hands on. For a lot of people 250+ vmerits are common and some have netted over 700 vmerits in a single raid.

So when raids are lackluster because there are more and more people dropping dead, at least on Justice there are usually a couple of people who are able to pick up the slack and either reduce the incoming herds or keep the other people on the fighting line.

If people bring too many lowbees into a ship raid, at some point it will fail. If that does happen, most of those people won't bother attending the raid as a lowbee because they know that its not an efficient way for them to get ahead. The problem will tend to solve itself, but not necessarily in a smooth or desirable way.

I think there is a natural tension of public good vs. selfish motivations that comes about in any public raid setting. That won't be easy to fix even if you try to ban under 35s from RWZ.

Fire/Kin builds are very tight (powers and slot constrained) to begin with, so to take Hover (for most people) and then Fly is really tough to fit in all the other desirable powers, farm builds or not.

Still it can be done, but as many of the other posters have pointed out, there is a lot of synergy between non flight powers and fire/kins.

Actually, I kind of like seeing who's paying attention. Gives me an indication of whether I should have put in the effort to delineate the conditions of the contest.

Kinda sucks, but live and learn I guess.
Pulling out and relisting is entirely your call. If you have the slots and you're cheap, it may cycle back again, and usually does to some degree.

Things like double xp weekends along with free reactivation usually brings up a frenzy of people and pushes people to level up their toons as opposed to playing their 50s. This usually drops supply mildly but increases demand significantly. Whether it is enough to overcome high lists is what you would have to judge for yourself.

Additionally, Going Rogue will have some significant impact upon the markets as well. I'm not going to pretend to have any insight on what will happen, but the markets will change again based on shifting populations, supply and demand in GR.
