  1. Nothing wrong with a casual game, but then again, a casual game usually implies that there isn't a lot of depth. ie, not very much richness to keep the replayability levels high.

Ideally you want a game that a casual player can grasp easily and feel rewarded for playing casually, yet still have depth for others to continually play and feel rewarded without being overly compensated.

Never understood why they decided to double the influence earning of 50s just because it was 'bugged'. There's been lots of things that were working as designed but changed to smooth things out. There weren't enough inf sinks to begin with, and making the rich richer wasn't exactly a pressing matter.

You should go back to dancing.

Seriously though, the devs have created Brain Storms, Vanguard Merits, TF Merits, Candy Canes, Tickets and a dozen other reward systems on top of the standard influence reward.

What is wrong with distinctive shinies that are not reward merits? I'd be happy with a single use non-stackable Hammer of Justice or whatever instead of more merits...even costume pieces like the KHTF has.

Since CoP is supposed to be SG based...they should award a temp power/bonus when you have SG members on your team or something to that effect, but the whole idea of simple merit rewards/min per task is pretty much the road to extinction if you ask me.

Soon there will be Alpha junk to go around as well...another form of non tradeable currency that will inflate everything else around it.

That said, i9 l00tz did change the game, and there really isn't any sort of challenge left in the game. Those two things are basically a fork in the game. The royal 'we' can do moSTF in 50 minutes with a success rate over 70% probably, CoP in probably 8 minutes consistently and Hamidon in 15 minutes or less with minimal temp power use.

Those are probably the 'challenge' items of the game for teams, the ones that give reward keep getting done.

The challenge falls to the wayside, you beat it a couple times, what is the point of going back repeatedly if you arent getting rewarded?

I like a good challenge, I've solo'd the vast majority of all the team content out now for the challenge. What is the point in doing it repeatedly though?

Maybe it just boils down to playing too much and the game at heart being one, or at least starting out as, a game for casual players.
That is the crux of the problem...the rewards for the activity are ultimately self defeating. In other words, never look a merit horse in the mouth. As for i9, I had specifically cautioned that merits would pretty much create a merit bonanza for some people and increase the gap between the have and have-nots, as opposed to narrowing the gap.

There isn't really a point to building an uber l33t toon to do most activities. It's sort of the reason why emps are considered unnecessary...what's the point to bringing a healer to def-capped, health-capped super powered teams? In essence, you could solo everything so a team is unnecessary, so is there a point to the massively-multiplayered part of a RPG?

The rewards simply feed the cycle even more since they're not simply shinies. They keep making your toon(s) more uber and actually make an easy game even easier. Taking challenge out of the game isn't necessarily going to make it more fun, although in the beginning it sure seems great. I guess I'd rather be Batman than Superman.

I suppose the entire reward system needs to be refigured, although doing it at this point would be like trying to refit a leaky submarine whilst out at sea. If the rewards didn't feed into the functional performance of a toon so cheaply and quickly the game would probably have fewer problems like the power and influence inflation that we see today.

I wouldn't be opposed to joining one now, but I'm not going to schedule, plan, or lead another one until that comes to live, and we've done pretty well on it so far. As it is now, its all the preparation and headache that goes with getting everything and everyone ready, then the very difficult trial itself, and then the slap in the face of "You have 6 merits and a near worthless temp!" Such a shame to see such a long promised and long awaited trial being ignored so quick.
I'm going to be contrarian here and say that I kinda like things the way they are. In fact if it was made harder I wouldn't mind either.

I think the whole game has been on a downward slope to easy street ever since the Hero respec trial was toned down.

The Master of ... badges were indicative of the general idea of why PvP also is a failure in CoX. Almost every single game/scenario/task force is geared such that the player wins...every time. Games where you win 100% of the time is frankly boring.

There should be events where only a few people are able to finish a task but the player base has been fed such pablum that everyone expects to be able to cruise through things without much difficulty. This leads to people leeching, door sitting or pouting just because they can't get their way.

I want some fiber in my diet. I know everyone wants nice things, but I really don't care about the rewards anymore...sometimes increasing the reward means that people just get greedier. Of course, finding people to help you do difficult tasks is compounded when they all say they want to do something that yields a better merit/minute number...

The CoP will involve much standing around and waiting, for the foreseeable future anyhow.

Most people haven't run the CoP trial before so usually there will be a large percentage of people who won't know what to do.

Having up to 24 people in a raid means there is always someone who AFKs or switches or needs shivans/HVAS/nukes at the most inappropriate time.

Since the two phases of the CoP require a strong degree of coordination between everyone involved, a lot of time is spent by the team leaders trying to figure out ways to make sure everyone is synced up and listening. Probably the majority of the time is spent working on this, actually. If you've ever done an Abandoned Sewer Trial, just imagine having 3 teams instead of 1 and you can see where the source of frustration can be.

The AV at the end has a huge amount of regen so timing and pacing are needed to overcome him in the narrow window of opportunities that are given between spawns.

As usual, good teams/leaders will make the CoP look easy. Poor teams/leaders will make it look hard. YMMV. Until the majority of each team knows their roles and responsibilities, count on more downtime during raid formation rather than actual CoPing.

The only use for EoE outside of Hami raids are for LGTF or MoLGTF. Not sure if AE has any use for EoEs but probably not.

  12. One of the reasons why this whole issue exists is because there are a small number of people who feel entitled to drop into the captain's chair and think that sitting in it is all that is required.

Whilst it may look easy in many respects, leading requires that you have the respect of your command chain on down.

Justice has always been great in this area because so many are qualified to sit in that chair; they've earned their stripes. This has meant that a good number of people have rotated in and out of the seat, and made it look easy. Sometimes too easy. Justice has also been great in that that core group of people have been very magnanimous in letting people sit in that chair for short periods even though they may not have earned it.

Sometimes this has irked people from both sides of the fence. Some believe that Justice is a welfare state while others believe they should have a turn no matter what the traditional raid leaders may feel about them.

Like everyone has said in this thread, Hami is easy. It is a public raid, so everyone can do and try what they want. I think and hope we are beyond the days of hami griefing, so if people want to try different raid types and events they should feel more than welcome to.

No one should feel that they must help someone if they don't like them, as long as they don't hinder them everyone can peacefully coexist.

  15. Found a work around. Hit the "Register" button in the nav since it didn't think I had an account, then the page says that you are already registered.

Then click the "City of Heroes Forums" link in the bread crumb and then it remembers who you are.

Edit: Problem only occurs when you come in via boards.coh.com instead of boards.cityofheroes.com
  16. Anyone else have a problem logging into the forums from mobile safari? I can't seem to log in using my iPad or iPhone 4. It will say 'thanks for logging in' but when the page refreshes it gives me 'guest' version of the page.

Any description on how to enable crossfire support in CoH?

Your melee characters might also want to bring some yellows as the AV sometimes uses hurricane and debuffs the hell out of tohit.
What was interesting was that on another run of CoP (after the gracious Flea showed us how it was done) with the LoJ folks, we were better prepared to drop the AV. When we first went in everyone threw everything at him, including the kitchen sink.

He didn't even have a chance to get hurricane going and we dropped him before the first respawn came in, so the new folks were thinking it was quite anticlimactic. 11 minutes from beginning to end, although the gathering phase was quite prolonged for other reasons entirely.

Just remember that if you can't finish him before your buffs/temps/pets wear off that it will be unlikely that you could finish the trial without restarting.

Probably getting some Widows over from the other side would also help with having Mind Link on the raiders and pets. If anything it would reduce the amount of chaining that would go on. Nothing more annoying than being terrorized during the critical phase.

Ideally the raid leader should advertise and plan a ship raid right after a Hami raid just to keep the vmerits train rolling.

Given the fact that Justice tends to use ship raids to herd rikti, capping vmerits should be pretty easy within a few raids. 600-1000 merits per run should mean that there should never be a shortage of HVAS during hami raids. Or CoP for that matter.

Um...what you've just describe fits the description of a welfare state. Why do I need to bother learning it if you're there to fill in the blanks for me?

Reminds me of my linear algebra class where the teaching assistant put a ? with some other guy's name it. I didn't know or care since I got them all correct but a year later the guy who's name was on my assignment came and thanked me for the 'giving him' the answers. Turns out he fished out my copy from the submission bin and scribed it.

People tend towards laziness and selfishness unless they have no other choice.

I say we run through Justice and behead the leaders. Nothing like creative destruction to allow the shoots to grow into lubberly trees.
