Depending on what's going on I can go as high as 60fps to as low as the low teens (obviously, worse when teamed). I can usually stay around 30fps, though. I used to run at higher resolutions but lowered it in favor of more details/prettiness. The Radeon is actually an upgrade from my old GeForce 7900 GS w/256m RAM.
I'd love for my lows to go up some (if I never dip below, say, 24-30 fps I'd be quite happy). If I can add more pretties, even better. I'm not expecting to run in Ultra mode, and quite honestly due to some financial goals of mine I'm probably not going to do any full-scale upgrades (even though I'd love an i5 or Athlon II X4 system)... this is a "should last me another two years" type thing. -
Okay, lets say I could, relatively soon, do up to $200 in upgrades. Which is going to give me the biggest bang for the buck? Currently I've got:
CPU - C2D 6300 @ 1.8ghz
Video card - Radeon 4670 w/1g RAM
I'm running Windows 7 (RC, 64-bit) with 4g of RAM.
I can't really get upgrades for the CPU right now, as they don't make the Q6600 anymore and I'm a bit leary of getting parts off of eBay. If I did it would be $200. I don't think I'd need a new power supply, and this would not require me get a new motherboard or RAM, either.
I could get a GeForce GTX 260 or Radeon HD 4870 1GB for $150-200. This would likely require a new power supply (got a 375w Dell OEM PSU - reportedly these tend to be underrated but I'm a bit paranoid about that). My current computer is not SLI or Crossfire capable.
Help? -
Would anyone know how well does COH do with Crossfire using AFR these days? Do you know, by chance? I couldn't find anything, but I don't know if that's my search-fu being weak or there not being much.
-
Quote:Appreciate it. Its a nice spot in that anything these days is a nice improvement for me. I spent some time last night trying to find/figure out the price difference if I bought or made an Athlon II X4 system or an i5 (felt the inner geek getting stronger!). Its just that I found the comment, "a decent processor" to be, well, vague, you know? i5's and i7's are lovely to be sure, but they're also a bit expensive. The $100 I'd save from going from an i5 to an X4 could be used for other necessary components or going ahead and buying a second Radeon 4670/1g card (which when Crossfired should get me close to 4850 performance). I just wish I knew what that cut-off was for a "decent processor" (even though I'm quite sure my C2D is well under it).I hate to get involved in religious wars but here is some objective information for cpu comparison
for general performance

Quote:Ya know, I have to ask "What constitutes a decent processor these days?"Also, a video card is not the ONLY thing you should take into consideration. Your PC having a decent processor and memory will also enhance your performance. As we continue to test and get more information available we will update you. I hope this helps, and happy holidays!
While I've no doubt about i5 and i7's, I was more curious about AMD's offerings these days. I'm debating upgrading my poor old C2D 6300 @ 1.8ghz, and the Athlon X4 620 is looking good. -
My search-fu might be weak but...
How well does COH do with Crossfire using AFR? -
That's the biggest reason why I do the Ouro stuff for merits... I can go as easy or hard as I want, can do it all alone (no fills), go -1 if I want, etc. Arcs are significantly easier and convenient for merit earning provided you're not in a rush.

Thanks for the work on Walk. I hope it becomes fuller-featured, but like the walk power itself its not a priority!
-
Quote:Its possible. Don't forget things like Weapon Customization, alternate animations for various melee powers and some powers (like Earth Control) having alternate graphics. Now, I don't know how possible, but it would be a wonderful goal...Was just wondering...
A comment I read somewhere from Herocon said that we will get power customization for the pool powers.
Is it possible that [Ninja Run] is the first effort to try new animations with movement powers? Is it reasonable to wonder if this means that - like taunt and some punches have alternate animation choices - travel powers may get options with customization?
Quote:I would pay $10 again for the ability to detach the animations from the NR power.
Can I get an Amen?
And another $10 more to be able to remove the standing ninja stance.
Hallelujah brothers and sisters (and other)!
Could we get that as an additional pack?
BABs, how much coding can your crew get done for $20? Will my twenty be a big enough budget to get it done?
I can wait as long as until tomorrow night for you guys to finish. -
Quote:As someone who's loved the results of friendly competition and taking someone else's idea then putting a spin on it throughout the years with fighting games? PLEASE continue to take and adapt! I'm quite happy with this process as it does nothing but make things better for playersSo...are you suggesting people shouldn't have ideas if they're already in other games, or that we shouldn't add things to this game that have been in other games?
Either way, less work for everyone.
Quote:Did you leave ninja run on with the Willpower character? Or is it always using default, even without ninja run on?
Shield out with Martial Arts is doing something like this too. With the shield out(defenses on), customized punches revert to default Martial Arts attacks.
Its been bugged. Right now I'm finding this to be Awesome. When everything is sorted out it should be Awesome++ (one + for my Brute, one + for my Tanker!).
This is, I must add, my *favorite* booster to date. Everything looks great, and the complaints I've had with previous boosters have been addressed
edit: Hmm... When I've got Deflection active its the original animations, but with it off its the alternate animations. Weird. Guess its time to find the right thread to post this in! -
Weird. I put Ninja Run on a character as soon as I logged on, and now I'm using the default animations for Super Strength instead of the alternate animations. I double checked at the Pocket D tailor, too.
edit: Hrm... maybe not. My other Shield and Willpower character is using the defaults too, even though they're set otherwise... meep.

You guys will be getting my money on Friday, November 20th. Pity I lost track of how much NCSoft has gotten from me from various add-ons to the different games, but its well over $100 now, and I'm quite happy/satisfied with everything.
Thank you devs! -
Quote:I would like to see a *bit* more. I've finally seen web ads from NCSoft for COH in the past year or so, for example. I think the guest author program for the AE is a good thing to try, certainly! And updated fan kit might be nice, or ways to help promote the game with other interests... I'd love to see some sort of bundle deal where you could get a copy of COH, FRAPS and a reasonable video editor, for example. Still a bit niche-ish, I'm sure, but hey... let the fans of FRAPS and the editor promote the game tooCoH has maintained a consistent presence on the shelves of my local Best Buy since I picked up my copy at launch lo, those many years ago.
I've never quite understood the wailing and gnashing of teeth about the lack of "marketing" for the game. It's been out 5 years and was never one of the 800lb gorillas of the genre, I'm not sure what people expect out of NC.
You know, since CO and HERO Games will be working together, maybe seeing if Green Ronin would be horribly adverse to having some official stuff from NCSoft/Paragon Studios for Mutants and Masterminds might not be horrible, either. However -
Quote:Whereas I believe I saw the last time I went to Gamestop (we've got two of them here that carry PC games). The Wal-Mart here isn't so great with PC titles/MMO's, though. Throw in online purchasing through NCSoft, Steam*, Direct2Drive or online retailers like Amazon or Gamestop? I think its very easy to get.I was getting nervous, having been through Fred Meyer, Target and Walmart's bins this week and not seeing a single copy of CoH. Christmas is getting close.
*Hey, I'd love to see Impulse have NCSoft for games. Just sayin' -
Quote:Of course, I think sometimes we get too caught up in subscriber numbers too. We don't know what their break even point is, nor what their realistic goal numbers are (nevermind "dream goal" numbers). Folks might cry DOOOOM even when the numbers are actually well within what they consider good/acceptable.I do find it interesting that they no longer show subscription numbers. Seeing as how many of NCs games are reliant on subscription retention to show profit, I can't see this change in their financial reports as a good sign. It seems like they are trying too hard to point out how huge Aion is in order to distract from how all their other games have slipped.
-
Kinda neat, I guess
I think those are decent enough sales - so long as the retail stores are happy and keep carrying it, I'm happy. -
I'm not tied emotionally to ATI or Nvidia so I've got no trouble going with the market's sweet spot when I'm ready to upgrade.
What kind of performance should I be expecting for the current highest settings? I'm hoping it would be pretty good? I recall reading in an *old* Anandtech article that COH/V tends be more CPU defendant? -
Well, Going Rogue's big secret is out - there's going to be a way prettier graphics setting available to those with high-end machines.
Right now I've got a nice-ish PC, but I'm wanting to do an upgrade in the coming months (maybe after I get my taxes back).
My current machine (bought in 06): Core2Duo 6300 (1.8ghz), 4g RAM, Radeon 4670 w/1g ram, Windows 7 64-bit
I'm looking at an $800 PC: Intel i5 @ 2.66ghz, 4g RAM, GeForce 210 w/512m ram
Chances are what I'll do is switch the video cards and give my old computer to a friend of mine (elementary school teacher), as she likely wouldn't buy herself anything (especially with the cutback they've been having here). Later on I can get something nicer, video card wise.
Anyhow - I'm running at 1280x1024 with nice-ish settings. Framerate can be in the teens to 60, all depending on what's going on.

(you'll likely have to click on "all sizes" to read it)
I've got a 1920x1200 monitor, and while I would love to get to 45fps @ 1920x1200, thats' not hugely important to me.
I was wondering if you wonderful people with better machines could tell me about what you've got (hardware and performance-wise). I'm trying to set my expectations realistically here concerning what kind of performance I can hope for. I figure if I can handle the best settings COH can offer now with no problem, then hopefully with GR I'll be able to get the really pretty stuff with a playable framerate. I just don't know if I can hit that mark or not, though. -
Thank you! I don't necessarily care if this comes out in an i16.5, i17 (one key difference = typo), or GR. I'm just glad its coming!
-
Will do. And I *love* your avatar there
-
Dumb question: should I consider this to be something the devs might consider an exploit, so I shouldn't get too terribly attached to it, just in case?
-
I do think this is going to be moderately game-changing for me. Thanks again
edit: No, super-seriously. This massively affects me wanting to chase after purples now, and is far more interesting. Plus the idea of going down that far and being that powerful? Scary. Even if/when it starts scaling down lower than 20, I think doing old stuff will be very WOW -
Well, so long as its in the ballpark
I did everything on live last night (stayed up too late to boot!) trying to figure stuff out-ish. So if this seems somewhat incoherent/rambly, that's the reason why. -
I must've been up too late doing this... completely missed that.
That is...scary. Wow. Thanks Catwhoorg!
Now, in situations where I can't do that (like the Stamina example above) would overloading ED possibly be viable?
