  1. (People on Virtue are insane)

(Edited to add: Freedom red side is totally different than Freedom Blue. And as for farming, that's just a fraction of people, normally noobs on PI.)

    Onward!

You saying this is reassuring as the only place I've seen on the red side is Mercy. And unlike Atlas, you also have to run nearly a mile, as a lev 1, to get to where you can lev.

I've been meaning to look into the, I dunno, geography/lifestyle of CoV. I need to make me a mastermind...woot.

    Auto Jump ?

I use control+J for autojump, which is ++up, and if you switch to fly while using it it will keep going up. Just tap space to get out of auto.

I have also remapped my autorun to control+R for safety. I have died many a time typing brb. R is bound "emote has accidentally hit the R key."

Both are very handy with the ninja run, though I had autojump from back in my superjump days.
  5. OK, I'm not an expert and this advice is wrong wrong wrong, but here's what I do/did.

After locking on and hitting F, get Eagle set to go. I'm not a DPS freak, and even if I was, Eagle is still a nice thing, even with the Wiley Coyote hover before the actual strike. Crane and storm are liberally applied as they come up, DDR style if you want to call it that. For single target mitigation I put Air Sup on them.

I like and use Dragon, but I don't like or use it that much. I don't take CAK due to dorky movement factors. Oh, lord, they need to fix that animation. Those movements look so bad it's worse than just hitting random when you make your costume.

Have fun with the MA. You aren't the most powerful, but you look the coolest doing it. And listen to Spider Teo and read his guide, very useful.

ETA: Oh, and listen to Umbral too, even though his avi makes me always think he's mad.
  6. I thought about, but quickly dismissed this idea.

I don't know how you'd do tp, but fly I'd use standard controls on the left stick and the X as gas, circle [Or whatever the one to the left is] as brake/reverse. Same for running, and using R1 and L1 as strafe.

I have an adapter to plug a normal ps2 controller into the pc. They're cheap and work well, but I never use it. I also have a Wolfking Warrior which I have used a total of 2 minutes, though I'm about to load up the new independantly made drivers/software for my old Belkin Nostromo n50, which I always liked but was abandoned by Belkin when Vista came out. Vista could see it, but their software couldn't. But then again, I have a Logitec G11 in the mail right now.

I use W and mouse for all movement. Tp gets the hold down Alt+Lbutton. I can't imagine a smoother way to navigate.

Running perfect. Just remember to do a windows update after install to get the right drivers.

When you run Sprint with Steamy Mists...
I actually don't have any travel powers, but now plan on picking up teleport around 35. I like teleport and would have gotten it earlier if ill/storm wasn't such a tight powerset. Every powerset needs a few turds to ignore, these just don't seem to have them.

Celerity +stealth is running 5 million now. My toon has 400k and I'm about to suck another one or two million off one of my other toons to finance her, but that might not be needed as her enh are good for the next 6 levs.

Local suggested SS w SMist and I would do that, but my toon already has her stuff. When I get in the 30s, I'm probably going to respec.

...go to Firebase Zulu...jetpacks very cheaply
I'm a bit of an alt freak, making one or two every week. I keep the insp from Outbreak and once I earn 400 inf on the streets sell the damage, then with that I an put up the health. With 50+k, I hoof it to FBZ for the raptor pack. It's a little irritating that the SB tp spot is on the other side of the island. Swimming around it and then running through the streets as a level 2 or 3 is crazy. [though I've noticed that a 1100+ hp hit from a sniper will not kill you. I've had it happen twice.]

That also makes you get better stuff from the bank mishs. I like the rez from the bank mish, with 20 seconds of invulnerable running away included.

    Quote:
If you had to pick a power to drop from the list below, the first one I'd drop is Snow Storm.
I agree with that. I just don't use it anymore, and only at 22, and have always had a tough time placing it on an enemy that'll be the last or close to last killed.

    Quote:
Deceive is something I would recommend slotting very heavily.
I'll be getting Deceive next, pushing some things back and removing Tornado and Assault.

    Thanks.
  9. Local, you say you're not an expert, but you are. Really. I've read your guide several times over the last two months, while I thought about making the break from scrap/blasters to an archetype carrying some responsibility.

In my first, aborted attempt at an illusion controller, I took Deceive and wasn't impressed, though I didn't get past 10 with that character. In Illusion/Storm there are so many worthwhile powers it's hard for me to choose which to drop. This is the first time I've pushed aside other powers and grabbed Recall Friend early, and I've never regretted it. It keeps the game from being 50/50 standing/playing. Or at least feeling that way.

I know you love deceive. And I see your point. I'll probably shuffle some things around, drop maneuvers and get deceive quickly.

Another issue I had with maneuvers is that I'm not sure I stand within the, if memory serves, 20 foot radius of the action. Heck, the blind and spec wounds have 80 ft ranges. I usually only get close to the chaos when I go invisible and jump over it to get my Phantom Dudes to stop staring at me and get to work.

I'm thinking more I'll skip tornado. It seems impolite to unleash it when teaming. And just to practice Hurricaine, I'll solo some. I won't pass up a good power because it doesn't fit my style. I need to move Hurricane from my toggle key area to my click area. Speaking of which, it freaks me out that I have no toggles in this build.

And thanks again. I am super pleased to get some direct insight to my build, Local. I'm really liking this toon and don't want to screw her up. I find having to respec due to poor choices to be a failure. Outgrowing a power is one thing, but realizing I crippled myself is another.
  10. Thanks for the quick reply.

I get hasten at 6. I don't like SS's lack of vertical movement and am really pleased with Ninja Run. I jump at 48 mph, which is good enough.

I thought I had read in the Smoke and Mirrors ill/storm guide that Clap was good. Or maybe it was just good looking. To me, it sounds like a good amount of control. My only controls now are blind [good on one], snow storm [pretty good slow if I can pick an enemy my team won't kill too fast], and freezing rain.

I've got ph-army, and with spec terror, phantasm, tornado and lightning storm, which are all good, amazing powers in their own right, but I felt I needed to lock 'em down a little more and Clap is the only option.

I'm glad to know my build was pretty good. The last time I posted one, my warshade, they ripped me a new one.

Edited to add: I don't have the slotting in her build yet. Only performance shifter in stamina. The 2 entropics I have in blind and Spec Wounds are really just temporary but I wanted the 20% regen.
  11. I've been really happy with my build until I took Hurricane. Maybe I'm misusing it, but I'm not thrilled with it. I find it worse spammy than the crack of spine scrappers.

My main concerns are whether my picks of teleport, assault, and tornado are going to make sense. I work with teams 95% of the time.

I like teleport in my warshade. But it's mostly fun or a get-me-out power.
I've never taken assault but the mez resistance sounds good and I lack that kind of thing.
Tornado sounds like a Hurricane I can't control. I've only used Hurricane once in combat and I was embarrassed by the KB.

Any advice, barring just calling me a ******* for my choices, is appreciated.

Candyjet is a stealther by theme. I don't tend to fret about IOs until later, depending only on SOs post 22. Though I do have some Entropics in my ranged stuff for the regen.

  12. I've tried to find a simple explanation somewhere. They are the most prominent aspect of CoH. It should be a little higher toward the top in the lore.

Why are the zones separated by blue force walls?
  13. I just picked up a 9600 GSO, which is a pimped out 8800, and I run with the slider to the right. The only slowdown I get is when I'm in my SG's crap-stacked-to-the-ceiling base, and oddly approaching Wentworth's sometimes.

Sometimes it's better to have the setting lower as that chops out the fog, good for Dark Astoria.

My 9600 GSO was a little higher than $50 at Newegg.
  14. I've migrated from Liberty, which is still a great server, though a much smaller crowd, to Freedom. Freedom has some great people and about 3% broadcast-spamming idiots, earning it the nickname Freedumb. I really like it there. And there are plenty of power levelling SGs there. You can take a one to Perigrine Island and say "lev 1 blaster lff will pay" and probably get into the twenties within the hour.

I think farming sewers, caves, Astoria, etc, is a more honest pl than Battle Maiden 20x.

I've never clicked with Virtue. I'm not a hip, cool kid and I think they can tell.

I've been told that, for a friendly backwater server, Pennacle is good. Though the two minutes I was there once someone acted like a jerk to me. First impressions are rough. I deleted what was going to be my soloing PB.

And while we're talking about it. Which server is the most east coast? I put a toon on Champion because that was my original server around i5 [or whenever CoV came out]. It seemed to peak around 8pm CST and taper off around midnight.

Freedom, red side, in Mercy when I did a /whoall, only had 20 people. Is red side sparsely populated everywhere?

    Firekin pools

    Thanks. Good advice.

Lots to think about. It's such a tight build that I have plenty of time before there's any wiggle room. Also, I forgot increase density, which I need for my imps even if not teaming. I plan to team mostly.

My thoughts about wanting to keep Ninja Run as my only travel power are going to fall by the wayside. CJ is better than it for defenses. SS is better than it for speed and can get +stealthed [or more than likely pick up stealth from the pool then respec when I'm sure this toon is worthy of the Celerity cash.] Heck, I was even picking up swift to make NR faster. That's a power pick...that could have picked SS.

    Thanks again.
  17. STOP READING - I AM AN IDIOT - I WAS LISTING 10

    ---original post---------

Was this known? That the Statesman Mask, Recluse, the gloves, and the Hamidon Costume salvage all have a Wentworth listing fee of 50% rather than 5%?

Did I just lose 10 million?

Or is that refunded and the normal seller fee applies? I hope so. Though I don't know what that rule would be intended to do. Keep poorer sellers from selling as rapidly as more wealthy ones.

I'm just glad I didn't get totally cranked up on it.

    Firekin pools

All core powers taken. Swift and Hurdle, as well as Sypon Speed and Inertial Reduction, should help with Ninja Run, which I'll also supplement with a Raptor Pack from FBZ.

I'm not sure if I want to grab the melee of Boxing or Air Sup. I have two pools open as of this build posting.

Any suggestions on power picks, or possible rearrangement of what I have. Or is it just preference after the core is taken. Thanks in advance.

I can spare slots much easier than I can spare powers.

I was seeing that with sprint and hurdle I was getting Ninja Run jumps at 46 mph. I know Mid's has no way of calculating it, so how would we see how far to the Ninja Run jump softcap?

I assume it would three slotted Hurdle, Sprint, and Swift. Not even considering Blessings of the Zephry et al.

    4) Speaking of the Recharge floor (-75% recharge)- one major question should be what you want to choose to put them there. You have a lot of options- Shiver, Ice Storm, Frost Breath- and you don't need to take ALL of them. (Ice Patch is another defense technique, which you may not turn out to need.)
    1. Harsh, but close to accurate.

    2. When I get around the late 30s, I tend to take any old turd. This ties with the sword and ice cube gloves. But there's only so much stuff from pools I want to take late in the game.

    3. I am SOOOOO looking forward to Shiver.

    4. I suspected this but all the build threads I read were adding nearly all the powers. That's why my original thought was to get both flight and concealment, and possibly teleport. Sometimes I wish for a powerset that has lots of turds so I can get more pool stuff. Though I'd need the non-turds to be excellent.

I'll think about it. Good info.

  25. I looked up Freebird and it says "Grants Stealth for 120 seconds when used in an instant effect power. If used in a toggle, stealth will last 120 seconds after the toggle is turned off. Range of stealth is 300 feet in PvP, 30 feet in PvE." at the Paragon Wiki.

Does this mean that as long at the flight toggle is on, I am stealthed, and then for 120 after the toggle is turned off. But if I get w/i 30 feet of an enemy I will be seen? I think I'm spoiled by SS+Stealth where I actually run into mobs.
