How important do you think Hasten might be to the build?
if I drop the speed pool, drop hover and take leaping instead, I get even higher defense if I toggle Combat Jump and I get one layer of mezz protection with Acrobatics for mezzes that happen to get through the defense.
Of course that's 2 toggles (more End use), no hasten and no easy way to direct knockbak anymore, so maybe it's not a better build, just different.
I don't care a lot about the KB resistance in Acrobatics because Hover would mitigate KB by doing a quick flip, and i can have a couple Karma/Steadfast -KB in storage.
what is the defense cap fora blaster? Mids shows that Conbat Jump + Cloaking Device + Weave + bonuses at 39.1% as slotted (slotted one End on +def in CJ)
isn't that over the cap?
since I'm not longer invisible due to superspeed, I can at least take Hasten at 50 (or Hover, but I think Hasten is best between the two) -
Hi all, I just came back to the game a after a few years away and I was thinking about respecing my lvl50 NRG/Dev blaster before I lose my current freespec when i21 hits. It was my first character in the game and has sentimental value.
The last respec was before IOs were introduced, in fact it was before they made the turret into a drone (mobile), it used to be fixed wherever you got it out. (the lat build I have for her on my computer was saved using the old Sherksilver planner that most people used before Mid's)
Having just come back to the game, I'm a bit rusty with builds so I'd like your opinion on the following build. It's not supercrazy expensive, in fact I have all the uniques except the numina.
I used to have very few devices, targeting drones, caltrops and gun turret. I hated the mines, and unless something has changed to how they play, I don't intend to take them again.
With this build I tried to hit high Ranged defense through Weave+cloak+bonuses (36%) and get +rchg speed (+30%) in the process. The extra +7% damage is always nice.
I hope the +speed doesn't kill me on endurance (only +17%)
I pick up this crazy accuracy bonus (+64%) that I don't especially care about since I have +toHit with the drone, but that allows me not to worry about Acc in the powers. For example I slotted the snipe for the +def bonus and it has terrible accuracy, but between the set bonuses, the drone and the fact I usually hit Aim before it, it still shouldn't miss much.
The nice thing here is a lot of the +def(Ranged) bonuses come from the not so great powers like web grenade, taser or caltrop, so I can use low lvl enh so I keep the bonus for exemplaring without gimping myself. I went with Frankenslotting (mostly) on my attacks so I get bang for the buck with high level enh without worrying about losing the bonuses when I exemplar.
Hover at 26 is to allow me to turn the NRG knockback into knockdown, I might even move it to lvl22 and slide Tough/Weave down a slot.
I'm not sure if stealth from Cloaking device stacks with superspeed for complete invisibility. If not, I may add a +Stealth in Run or Superspeed, since I like the invisibility is why I chose to take Recall Friend at 50 (wish I could take it earlier for exemplaring in TFs like Citadel, but the Assemble the Team temp power should alleviate that.
I've never used smoke grenade and left it out of this build, was it a mistake not to have toHit debuff?
Since I just came back to the game, I have to learn about alpha slots and all that newfangled stuff, so I didn't take it into account in this build. Let me know if that's a mistake and I'd have to start over once I fill in the alpha slot.

is there a forum or thread to get help on the beta?
I can't figure out how to get out of the character creator.
I also can't seem to find the items I purchased and need to repurchase them? -
>Here is why I have decided to go Tri Form:
you're talking to the guy that wrote the i9 PB TriForm guide! (just came back to the game)
For some reason I thought you already had triform PB. Definitely go Triform first, forget the naysayers, "dance" between forms and kick some booty and enjoy what a properly played PB has to provide. Really, it's not about the size of the build, it's how you use it
I just deleted my Earth/rad at lvl46, not because it was weak, but because I thought it was boring to play. Fun is relevant to how I play. -
I came back to the game after a couple of years break.
I'm having fun trying our the new power sets that didn't exit back then, but I'll get around to playing/improving my PB with IOs (right now he only has lvl53 SOs and HOs from the good old days).
Now that Fitness is inherent, the question above is moot
Now that you can have multiple builds, I'm tempted to make a Human Only build, especially with Fitness inherent.
According to the i21 beta discussions, some changes are coming to the Kheldians that may also change some of the playability (I'm actually kind of sad that it appears to make Tri-Form less attractive) and there is even a rumor that more changes are coming with i22.... -
>After recent developments
are you talking about the Kheld changes on beta or something unrelated?
I am thinking about trying a human Only PB (in fact the changes on Beta seem to make it even more palatable), so I was following this thread with curiosity. -
I just came back to the game after about 100 days away (i13) and jsut started playing Pilou, my Peacebringer again, so after I play with him a while I may update my guide from the original list.
I'm currently running lvl50++ SOs and lots of HOs, so it's going to be a lot of work playing with and testing IOs and sets. I'm not rich enough for purples, so some of the info may be theroetical only.
anyone with pointers on how to update my guide is welcome to PM me. -
According to this post: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showp...25&postcount=7 the beta server should be open to anyone with an active subscription.
A number of people (myself included) are not able to log on, we get a message thawt "this is not an open beta".
With 2xXP weekend I had an excuse to ignore the beta, but now... -
thanks for the advice.
were "accurate healing" sets introduced after i13? for some reason I wasn't aware of their existence and missed it in Mid's. I agree I should try for one of those sets, although I don;t think I can afford the Touch of the Nictus anytime soon (my total cash across characters probably doesn't exceed 15 mils)
Regarding fluffy's slotting, I *do* have -toHit, 2 lvl50 IOs give basically the ED cap, are you both saying it's still not enough, or am I missing what you're saying altogether?
I probably need extra accuracy. If the ehal is not worth enhancing I could go 2xAcc and 2x-ToHit
Based on my understanding of IO set in Pets, the IO only apply if the power from that pet would take the IO itself. For example Pet Gaze takes Acc, but doesn't take Heals, so slotting Fluffy with an Accurate Heal set would not improve his accuracy on Pet Gaze, just on Twilight Grasp (theoretical example, not advocating we slot heal sets ).
So (Accurate) -toHit set is the only set worth slotting, and no it still won't help Fluffy's accuracy on his Pet Gaze because that power doesn't take -toHit.
A full set of Clouded Senses gives you
60% Accuracy
44% -toHit
35% End discount
57% Recharge
I don't know that I care about recharge (Fluffly is already perma), and I don't think I care about End, so 2 lvl50 Acc IOs and 2 lvl50 -toHit IOs will give you
83% Accuracy
49% -toHit
if I replace one Acc with a Acc/Rchg from one of the sets I can even match your Acc with some recharge
I'll check out the prices on Clouded Senses and consider it, but the bottom line is I need to at least swap that heal IO with an Acc and decide if the extra inf and slots are worth the bonuses of clouded sense (and they are pretty nice) -
Another thing a bout Dark Servant. can he be controlled at all?
I often like to run ahead (invisible) for perfect placement of Fearful, then take my time applying debuffs. some team even wait for the debuffs to be applied, others jump right in. it's all good as long as we all survive.
I'm worried about Fluffy messing up my setup by aggroing early.
Also, don;t the tentacles have DoT damage, effectively negating the fear? -
Thansk for the reply.
I'd like to know more about what I should slot in Dark Servant. I slotted max -toHit which I see as his main function. His hold is unpredictable, not sure I care about his tentacles (I'd rather have them myself, I guess that's for another character), so his other usefulness is the heal. it's perma out of the box for a defender and it's pretty sturdy (I think), so I don;t know if +Rchg help (does it affects how often he comes back, not how often he attacks right?)
I just realized I didn't slot an accuracies though, so I probably need to do that, especially if I don't take Tactics.
I took leadership for the additional +def in Maneuvers and I have never used vengeance to I was thinking of trying it, but I'm sure not married to it
Mostly I wasn't sure what else I would take instead, I'd take Gaze if I had another hold, but I have lots of controller and I'd rather my defender not pretend he's a controller, or I'm going to be disappointed.
I didn't think about Dark Consumption to recover from the nuke. I usually pop a few blues but it may not be a bad idea, although if I did my job right, there may not be that many enemies to tap. I'll think about it.
Thanks for the info on the alpha slot, my Going Rogue is in the mail, so that's not something I have any knowledge of at this time. -
I should clarify that Hover is not only for concept (this character has fairy wings), but I also like to be above the fray for healing and placement of my cone and fear.
SS+Shadowfall makes me invisible but is often too fast in a mission, which is why I'd rather have a +stealth in Run to have control over invisibility.
Not sure if I should go Tactics or Assault, I figured Assualt synergizes with the -rez, and I don;t need the +Acc from Tactic
Is there a "better" choice for APP? maybe one with a hold so I can take Petrifying Gaze and stack? -
That's very good reasoning, -regen and -res areextremely useful in the end game and is the one things most ATs don't bring.
Now I remember why I liked my old Dark/Sonic defender(just rerolled one for 2x XP weekend)
-
I rolled a Dark/Sonic for 2xXP day (currently at 22)
having just returned after 1000 days away (that's about i13), I'm rusty with builds, so I would like opinion on this one.
I tried to go with +Acc bonuses (important for my heal) + Rchg (again for heal but also attack speed, I want to be able to solo) so +End/Rec so that I don't run out of Eng
I am also really fuzzy about the rules for examplaring and IOs (I'll need to read up on it), but I want to be able to exemplar for TFs, etc... so I want to maximize benefit at 25+ in case reordering some slots might help.
I put most IOs at lvl35 not for examplaring (I think it doesn't matter?) but becuase I plan on buying them as I go starting around lvl32, and if the build is decent with lvl35 IOs, it only gets better with higher level oens if I get them.
I'm not rich, so no purple sets for me. I already have about 1/2 of the enh from my old days. I have a +recharge LoTG but not sure I want to spend it on this toon (better on my DOM I think)
Note I didn't slot 2 of the lvl50 slots, waiting for your critique to decide what to do.

ah, cool, I'm guessing there is a setting somewhere to tell Mid's I'm not such a vet...
-
Mid's lets me pick superspeed at lvl4
is it messed up or can you take your travel power this early? I've been away for a few years, so maybe it's another simplification made to the game? -
To me /Storm is infinitely more fun to play that /Cold. Heck, than anything really.
That's sufficient to make /Storm my choice (I think I have 4 /storm controllers alone), they also provide a lot of diversity on how you play them depending on your style, build, size of team and primary.
The fun factor is a big part of what is "best" for me. My high level Earth/Rad is very powerful, but I often get bored playing him.
For the same reason I like Fire/ because it's different from other primaries, since you really have to be in melee a lot.
I've yet to play a combo where I don't think I make a significant contribution to the team.
my 2 cents. -
-
do you have a "data chunk" for Mid's? I find it's the easiest way to look at a build
-
Quote:I lol'd...And I just realized that this is also mostly the list of the most popular Primaries/secondaries for controllers, minus the power sets that I don't play. >.>
beautifully said, and the reason I love storm -
Awesome.
can anyone post the auth ip for the beta server?
if not, how do I figure it out? sniff a windows install with Wireshark? -
-
chalk me up as another disappointed player who can no longer on his linux machine
-
I have a Plant/Storm and a Fire/Storm and they are both a blast to play, but they also play quite differently (you need to be smart about interactions between plant powers and ice powers, such as negating knockdown).
-
I missed it too.
If there is another one, can someone please post in this thread (even if you create a new one)?
I'm subscribed to this one so hopefully I will get an email notification in time.
