No, I don't think so. I grouped with an elec/stone dom in both mish. I think that hard control might not be as effective, but this person had 1sec rech sthold, and was very effective at damage control with that and their other mixed bag of tricks. They went nerve alpha, for the additional hold duration, and I have to say, it made an obvious difference. Most surprising, the AOE sleep was VERY effective at damage mitigation. Though the mobs may not have been slept long, it was long enough for the damage in the team to wipe them out with some safety,

Unfortunately, elec does not have any of those nice soft controls. It has
pbaoe drain
aoe targeted sleep
an almost useless confuse you will never be able to line up in incarnate content
The drains will be trivialized by level difference. I think the sleep is 100%? useless.... That is kind of where I am headed. Without some of the nice kd/ku, the soft controls of elec seem really weak in comparison to other potential controls available to doms/trollers, especially up against purples. -
Soft control is largely ignored by +4 mobs... Do you all think that the soft controls of an elec dom, for instance, will be largely useless in incarnate level content? Or do you think that with the "very rare" level boost slots will make soft control more viable, as it will give us a target only +3 or less? In the future, also, as incarnate level content goes up, will soft control still be viable, even with incarnate slots?

Voo, Hew here.... Our Apex team last night was pretty mashed up. We an ill/kin troller who just threw out PA and lots and lots and lots of heals, a MM (in the last fight he just tried to avoid dying....), Mr Darke (a pain corr), me, maelstone, a blaster, another brute, and another blaster? I cant remember what #8 was. But we rolled it in 70 minutes. I think its easy to be pretty flexible in this TF based on what we saw, as long as you can get out of the way or survive. Either or. A very large helping of some healing makes any team functional I would say. I definitely would like to do this one more time with a completely random team. Last night was 100% PUG. We had no problem with Tinmage either....
Hope you guys have/had fun!

No execeptions regarding having the Alpha slotted. 99% sure it can be checked via the info window, so no shenanigans! -
I dont care much what happens with the costs. AMs give me for the first chance an ability to buy IOs that I have not been able to buy since the launch of IOs, like regen tissue and such. I have never been able to get my hands on a LtoG recharge, ever, for instance.

What about an elec/psi dom? You have a repeat effect sleep thats permable and then some if you were lazy, and unresisted damage you could use to smash the towers. Since your aoe sleep constantly refreshes itself every 5 seconds, you get a hell of an overlap when you get two or three of those sleeps working. The question then is, can you do enough damage with psi to the towers with ranged attacks while babysitting recluse in his sleep bubble? After that, it seems reasonable that you could even beat on recluse with asleep reapplying itself ever 2-3 seconds with your overlapped bubbles. IIRC, the sleep bubbles also eat end.... If you were patient, you might even be able to drain his end as well, leaving him a tiger with no teeth but lots of claws...
-
Elec/Psi is fantastic. You have no worries about endurance ever, you have amazing single target damage, and you have widespread pbaoe control in the form of a sleep, a drain, and conduction. You also have a nice pbaoe damage and cone attack which will allow you to clean up anything in your sleep hold after you nuke the boss. Overall, the types of damage put out by Psi works very well with the types of controls in Elec. Oddly, elec chains, aside from the confuse, do not seem to mesh well with psi. You wake too many things up doing too little damage or control, and not enough focused aoe damage to make up the difference.

Could you post your build the long way please? Thanks!

Quote:Carnifax... you misread. I had mentioned slotting with Generic _IO_s. Definitely not SOs. Thats all. It's actually cheaper to frankenslot with a couple of Def/Rech IOs than replace SOs every few levels. They're pitifully cheap on the markets because Defense/Recharge isn't a desirable combo most of the time. As long as you go for Yellow ones rather than Orange the Salvage required is fairly cheap too.
People claiming you need to "Market PvP" to get something like Def/Recharge IOs at 25 or 30 are simply incorrect. They're vendor trash to most people and priced accordingly.I don't think anyone uses SOs anymore.... I don't even know why they exist to be frank.

Quote:I inserted numbers to clarify some important points.
1. You rarely use it because you probably don't realize it's the superior power.
2. If you have enough recharge slotted + global recharge to where ML is perma - it grants more Defense to both you and your team, precious PSI resistance and +5% to hit (unslotted).
It does all that, for less endurance cost overall than TT: Maneuvers.
3. So you might want to reconsider before telling other people they are making a mistake.
1. You say I may rarely use it, and as such I would not realize how hip and swinging a power it is. Maybe I just play as a psuedo blaster, and view killing as fast as possible as being more important to me than a few seconds of survival. I just happen to like the cape, or the hat, or (gasp) prefer to RP, or enjoy redside more.
2. Hi! I have barely enough money to slot with generic IOs, after purchasing salvage. I have a few sets. I simply do not have the time, or patience, to go off and waste my life in Market PVP. I am an extreme casual player. Do not remind me of the glory I might have if I spent more time uping regen this, or recharge that. Let me be happy enjoying myself with far sub-par slotting, I am having fun, I will never have this perma ML you speak of, so it would be great if you simply left this out of the argument.
3. Before you state that other people are making a mistake, you might want to reconsider what mistakes you are making. -
This means nobody can die right?
Id like to. but I dont have any soft-capped def chars. My brute could probably wrangle this since shes stone/elec, but... She also has 0 def. So when farming huge chunks of rikti I sometimes die. Are you looking for people on the just-dont-die level of play? -
Wow, what is this, city of stuckups?
Listen all you dismayed viewers of this thread.
I will run a group, (excluding OP and that one other guy), with you, no matter how bad you suck. If you suck exceedingly bad, and are just trying to have fun, Ill put the SRSLY at whatever level is necessary for us to have a good time. If you die a lot, Ill be sure to bring wakies for you, since your own inventory is probably full of greens or who knows what. If you do paltry damage, Ill bring the smash. If you lack the +def yo, Ill bring my own SoA and rock leadership enough for at least a small army (assumably armed with at least sticks...).
I think this must have must have is beyond stupid. Took forcebolt? Please use it! It's fun and I dont mind chasing down your targets. Took whirlwind? Lemme get something with range enough to hit everything.
You heard it here first. Hew leads and Hew could care less what you rock. -
I play as a dark/elec tank. It was omg omg wtfbbq till 26 painful. But I finally came into my own and can mow down hordes of whites now, so it worked out in the end.

This crap definitely is not working. It targets enemies WAY more than every 10 seconds. The damn proc should be targeting each time an enemy is targeted by the power, not by an arbitrary number that is not even reflected by the power. 10 second ticks are powers which affect the enemies once every 10 seconds. Simply watching the power tick away for a minute will clearly demonstrate that this is not how OG is running its target unloads.
edit: No, this damn proc is not Working As Advertised. -
Fury's process is blueside. Using about the same tactics does not yield quite the same results redside. Redside has such a massive glut of AE recipes and enh it is not even remotely funny. And if you are using that to pick up other related content to flip from recipe to enh to cash, it simply does not function quite as well. I've tested both sides, and blueside is much much more functional a way to pull inf out of the market into your pocket its not even funny.

Well, Hew really would prefer not to be included in the "all male" group.
You know, for duh reasons. -
I dont see why SM is not listed as one of the top 3, straight out of the gate.

I feel this is an excellent idea. I also like the casino boat idea as well. Missions on the casino boat + gambling on said boat is excellent. If only I can get a reasonable return on influence/infamy spent, I think this would be excellent. Bear in mind, if the casino costs more than the inf reduction from BM/WW transactions, then noone will use it. If it costs less, and this is easy to figure out from merits, then it will quickly slurp inf out of the economy.

I purchased the collectors edition just now having read this thread. The fact that I dont have to mess around with anything to get a character very up to speed is fantastic.
I view it this way. 1 power, with 80% rec/dam, + 5 attempts for extra damage, out of the gate, makes my fastest recharging attack a monstrous powerhouse at level 1. In fact, its kind of dirty. Yes, I get a month, and I get slots, and whatever. But more than anything, I am not in any way gimped, no matter WHAT kind of character I make, at the start. Even the weakest defender at level one, can do some nasty proc based damage. It's one power I dont have to worry about slotting until im rich and in my 30s. I think this is truly an awesome bonus for the promotion. -
Quote:SM/Elec is FANTASTIC. Although at 50, you need to really io yourself creatively. My attack chain is:Well, I tried fire/electric and although it was great damage, the mitigation from fire is obviously zero. I really like the early aoe KD from fault though, so it would be a nice to have something like that so early. What do you guys think?
fault/tremor/fault/tremor/fault/tremor/fault/BU/ball lightning/tremor/fault/tremor....
Its kind of boring. But there are things you simply can not be killed by. It is immensely fun, if you use smash, hammer, fist, hammer, smash, fist. You can nuke bosses easily. But... I have ~110% recharge and perma hasten. I use fault, drain to manage aggro. My attack chain is so fast that with fist on auto, i cant get a full hammer/hammer/smash attack in. So I put a disorient in the fist, and a proc neg damage. I either do stupid ammounts of ST damage against non-smash res enemies, or very consistent, decent damage in pbaoe. Currently i have 0% def. Thats right, 0% Def. I have so much mitigation from stuns, and knockdown, that I am really quite resilient. My biggest hole is Romans, who just eat me alive. Nobody is perfect for everything, and I love my char totally. I would rather have fast fast smash, than soft cap def and a boring, slow attack chain. -
930 is so late. can we do it earlier? Ive got a 14 dark/elec tank thats just a tankbot at the moment, more than willing to do it.
-
Ive got a stone/elec brute that might as well tank. You _need_ power sink. Its a critical part of your damage mitigation. Used and slotted aggressively, you can jump in, fault, sink, tremor, and not worry about incoming attacks, because your enemies wont have end to attack you with. Between sink/fault/tremor (especially if you have hasten), against most mobs you have all the mitigation you need. Especially if you have some defense thrown in there. To be honest, I took powersurge at 49 or whatever the last power was, and slotted everything else extremely aggressively for +recharge. Between hasten, lots of recharge, chance for recharge in fault, and elecs built-in- speed/rech power, I could simply use my heal to cover what wasnt being controlled by my KD. Be aware that with your added toggles (i dont have fighting power pool at all), I can only imagine your end drain will be absurd. Without sink, if you are using an aggressive KD for mitigation (it appears you are, you took both fault and tremor at the least), the cost to run these powers repeatedly plus your added toggles is going to nuke your blue bar.

Im tentatively in. stone/elec brute. I just upgraded and am now reasonably decent in the survival department. I have to wait and confirm the girlfriend isnt going to flip out if I join though.

Quote:This is the first serious, useful comment in this junk.....
I believe results of the shift to merit drops as TF rewards is a concrete example of this behavior at play. We saw a recipe shortage after the merits change, but why would we if merits equaled out to the same if not more ability to create random rolls? Because people sit on small merit amounts, there is no easy way to leverage the few merits across multiple alts to a reasonable pool of merits on a single alt. If folks could trade merits I've no doubt that "merit efficiency" would increase significantly.
People save merits for 150-250 merit recipes. That is a lot of other potential recipes. Including a chance at one of the 150-250 merit recipes. If one of those recipes sells for 150-300mil, you should be able to get perhaps 1/2 that or better rolling merits instead of hoarding them. People are in it for the mad cash. If the only way to make the mad cash is to hoard, marketeer, or buy it, those are the ways people will do it. The merit and AE ideas were both good ideas, but failed to address shortage caused by marketeers. It is a simplistic matter to weight cost of IO rolls from merits or tickets by tying it to the markets, or active population of either red or blue side. Right now, merits are simply not good enough to do anything with than hoard for big ticket items. Make that a non-truth, and you will see supply in each market stabalize at an equilibrium point. When merits were introduced, they were introduced arbitrarily, with the assumption being "this risk meets this reward", without concious consideration of what that reward might be. That should probably be rethought, as it is obvious that merit and ticket rewards are far from linear in progression.
