Quote:Well, at least that wouldn't be an issue on a /Psi dominator eh? No Power Boost for it not to work with anyhow.Link Minds is kind of meh in my book. Having a little bit of psi resist tacked on (and unenhanceable) means power boost won't work with it. That really spoiled my hopes for it.
(It is super lame how trivial the psi resist is though, it could at least have been worth a damn in it's own right. 10-15% even.) -
I'd really prefer that the expand the number of powersets available to the ATs that don't already have an assload of them.
Melee and Defense powersets are already two of the largest categories of set type in the game. The fact that ALL melee ATs have both Melee and Defense sets means that Melee ATs already have some of the largest selections of powersets to chose from in the game. How about spreading the love a little bit?
Melee sets: 18 (soon to be 20)(19, soon to be 21 with Katana/Ninja Blade separate)
Support (buff/debuff) sets: 14 (15 if you count the soon to be Darkness Affinity as unique from Dark Miasma, same as if you split Katana/Ninja Blade))
Defensive sets: 12
Ranged sets: 12
Control sets: 8 (soon to be 9 with Darkness Control)
Assault sets: 7 (soon to be 8 with Dark Assault)
Manipulation (Blaster secondary) sets: 7
Summon sets: 6
That's not to say I wouldn't like a new Defense or even melee power set. I'd just prefer a bit more for the underprivileged archetypes. -
Quote:^Pretty much this.It wasn't nerfed, it was rebalanced. Damage was lowered for PSW, increased for everything else, and base damage for Dominators in general was increased. It isn't 38 levels of rotten damage anymore.
Did PSW get nerfed? Yes, absolutely. Though really it was way out of line, and very deserving of one anyhow. It was only left as broken as it was because the rest of the set was crap.
Did /Psi get nerfed? Not so much really. It's a hell of a lot better for at least the first 38levels.
You can't skip all the other powers and just spam PWS anymore though. -
It occurs to me that Dark Control doesn't have any leech-like powers, making it the only dark set not too.
I'm hoping the tier9 has some kind of a siphon/leech type theme/function to it. It just doesn't seem like Dark without one. -
Quote:I revel in the irony of Dark (Miasma/Affinity) being better at Control on Defenders(less so Corruptors/MMs) and better at Support on Controllers. The Dark Affinity set seems like it'd be a little better than Dark Miasma. I understand putting Fade in there because Fearsome stare isnt there, but im sad that cors and fenders dont get Soul Absorption
*potentially. Unknown numbers/specifics and all that jazz. -
I won't say that I try not to repeat sets, because it's not really a conscious choice. After playing a set for awhile though, I generally just have no real desire to play (see: level) it all over again.
There are exceptions though.
Dark. All of them. They tend to be my go-to sets if I don't have a specific theme in mind. Playing a defense set without a heal or end recovery power? Dark Melee. Playing a support set without a self heal? Dark Blast. Looking to play a specific blast set, not sure what it would work with? Dark Miasma. (I get the feeling this pattern will repeat itself once Dark Assault goes live,... though Psi Assault I also have multiples of, even after having played it to 50 Pre-PWS nerf. The buffing of Psi Assault's low end performance more than made up for the hit to High End performance for an altaholic.(at least for me))
Time Manipulation. This has gotten to be a big one for me. I have 6 Time alts, and just might make more.
Time/Fire Defender
Time/Sonic Defender
Time/Dark Defender
Electric/Time Controller
Fire/Time Controller
Ice/Time Controller
Electric Control/Time is SOOOO safe, but SOOOOooooooooooooooo slow. (Solo) -

Quote:Sadly I don't think this is possible.Everytime i zone/enter a mission,,,,please please please dont make me have to watch and hear the nova form animation,
i play mainly in nova form and its bad enough having to have my screen go purple fuzzy and the big blast sound when i go into nova form,,but after every load screen its a real pain
All toggles(maybe all buffs period) essentially "reactivate" on zoning.
You hear hasten fire after zoning. All the leadership toggles play their effects again on zoning (This is quite discordant on SoAs who can have 2 sets of Leadership running at once). Etc. etc..
To do this would probably take a huge rewrite of game systems. -
Ideally both the more basic side, and the most concept specific/ornate side should be represented.
Basic Staff Options:
Wooden Staff/Quarterstaff/Bamboo
Metal Staff/Rod
Long Pipe/Street Sign
Spear/Pike
Halberd
Trident
Tree Branch
More Conceptual/Ornate Options:
Tech Staff
Magic Staff
Bone Staff (Like, and exaggerated Femur)
Unlockables:
Nemesis Staff (Shrink the gearhead a bit so it doesn't seem as top heavy, maybe have a small one on both ends)
Carnival Lighstaff (Lengthen the shaft as needed)
Rularuu Staff (Moar eyeballs) -
Old Life Drain:
1scale damage, 15second recharge, (not sure what the end cost was... I want to say 12 or 13end, but I dunno)
New Life Drain:
1.64scale damage, 8second recharge, 8.53end
Better damage. Faster Recharge. Lower End Cost.
Quote:I find Umbral Torrent an excellent power that greatly enhances the survivability of my two Dark/ Blasters. And while there are plenty of knockback haters, there are also plenty of people who like it. Especially guaranteed knockback like Umbral Torrent has.
For Dominators I think this would only be exacerbated, because they spend a great deal of time in melee, meaning you're going to have to back off practically to maximum range everytime you want to use your damned AoE. -
Quote:Given that they're WIPs, I withhold final judgement, but the "Fire" armor doesn't make me think of fire in any way, shape or form. Now I've seen the screenshots, I'm loving the look of the new Dark Astoria.
However, I won't be in any hurry to get the Fire & Ice costumes. I'm quite frankly repulsed by them.
It just looks crystalline. Without the crystal pieces it looks more like Magma. Doesn't say Fire to me though. -
Quote:God me too. Umbral Torrent is a horrible power. "Lets take one of the sets main AoEs and give it one of the most widely hated secondary effects in the game!"I only put TT in there because Synapse said there'd be control, and it falls into that category.
I rather hope it's not Umbral Torrent...
Quote:Heck, I don't even need Midnight Grasp. Gimme Siphon Life, and I'll be a happy camper. Or the Blaster version of Life Drain. Either one.Quote:Nice. Any chance if they confirmed whether it was Blaster or Defender Life Drain?
Quote:Night Fall or Umbral Torrent seems more likely in an Assault set to me. If a Dom wants a low damage immobilize, most primaries already have one.
Quote:Some dominator sets have a snipe, some don't. I haven't actually tallied, but I think currently slightly more do than not, so clearly in the interest of balance they should leave it out.
Dark has moonbeam. There's zero reason to think Dark Assault won't have it. (Even if most people don't want it.)
Quote:Confirmed in the Ustream today Life Drain at tier 7 or 8...
I HATE waiting so freaking long to get Life Drain on my Defenders. Hell even at tier7 it's going to annoy me to no end having to wait 28levels for it (29 for some slotting, 31+ for full slotting).
See.... just like Darkness Control... powers that don't make sense to me. Dark has always been a Cone centric theme, and ANY AoE attacks in Dark Assault are likely to be cones. Having a tiny radius PBAoE makes NO SENSE. Just like having a PBAoE Disorient in Darkness Control, where ALL OF YOUR OTHER AoE controls are cones, makes no sense to me.
Mud Pots, for what it is, works alright in Earth Assault cause Earth's AoEs are PBAoE or Target AoE. There's no need to move out of range for Mudpots to actually USE your other dang powers. This is unlikely to be true for Dark.
*Sigh*
Quote:Is that what Beam Rifle, Staff Melee, Time Manipulation, and Dual Pistols were?
Electric Control, yes, definitely.
It's a matter of taste obviously but I'd have rathered almost anything else, and this is my only way to let them know.
Thug MM -> Dual Pistols
Two handguns? Check.
Robot MM -> Beam Rifle
Laser Rifle? Check.
The actual mechanics and play style are very different, but the Themes were already present within the game. -
Quote:I suspect that Thunderous Blast draining less end per target than other nukes is due to Electric and it's thematic interaction with End drain.I recently took Thunderous Blast on my Defender and noticed something weird about it compared to other crashing nukes. Most of the nukes do a -100% endurance drain which means that as long as you hit one enemy you are fully drianed. TB, however, drains 40 endurance (note, 40, not 40%) per enemy hit. Now in most cases this is functionally identical since if you hit 3 or more enemies it's a complete drain.
Anyway, I was surprised to see that it was implemented differently from the other nukes and was curious if anyone knew the reason for that?
On the other side of the spectrum is Blizzard, which always drains your full bar of end even if it never lands a single tick of damage. (Because it's a pseudo-pet summon, it always "hits" even if there's not a single mob within miles.) -
Quote:Really If they at least removed the utterly trivial damage (which I doubt anyone would miss) so that it didn't proc DoT Interfaces, and fix the Duration:Recharge (Why exactly did they feel it needed twice the recharge of Mass Hypnosis?) I think that would go a LONG way to improving the power.- Flash Freeze really needs another look. The more I look at Ice next to Fire, Plant, Earth, etc, and the damage capability/control therein, the more I think this power should just do a Mag 3 stun. For one thing, the current design doesn't work at all if you have Reactive slotted, because the DOT from the rock bottom damage wakes enemies up. I'm not crazy about turning Ice into a Fire clone, but that's where the game has pushed us in a lot of ways.

Quote:A breakdown of the Darkness Control set has already been posted (Minus the tier9 power which hasn't been announced)Whats next? Is this the big "OH JUST WAIT IT'LL BE GREAT YOU DOM LOVERS!!!"? Or is there something else in store? Im a little "meh" about this. I was still really holding out hople for several new dom sets to round things out. Illusion/Dark was really sounding good in my head but what do you guys think?
Think Dark is gonna be just another port? Or being tied to the new and improved Dark Astoria, do you think it will somehow be tied to the power used by the pantheon??
I cant wait to actually see the footage of the summit so I can get a bigger picture.
It's not a port, the only power in the set that already exists in the game is Fearsome Stare. Everything else is new.
Doms will also get Dark Assault to go with it (and Controllers will get Dark Affinity, a variation of Dark Miasma).
There's also no mention at all of it being tied to Dark Astoria 2.0 in any way.
Relevant part of Synapse's post:
Quote:Darkness Control
I'll give out the information that was given in the power point here. We talked about 8 of the 9 powers.
Tier 1: Shadowy Binds (Ranged, Moderate DoT(Negative), Foe Immobilize, -To Hit, -Fly)
Tier 2: Dark Grasp (Ranged, Moderate DMG(Negative), Foe Hold, -To Hit)
Tier 3: Living Shadows Ranged (Cone), Minor DoT(Negative), Foe Immobilize, -To Hit, -Fly
Tier 4: Possess (Ranged, Target Confuse)
Tier 5: Fearsome Stare (Ranged (Cone), Foe Fear, -To Hit)
Tier 6: Heart of Darkness (PBAoE, Foe Disorient, -To Hit, Minor DoT(Negative))
Tier 7: Haunt (Foe Targeted, Summon Shades)
Tier 8: Shadow Field (Target (Location AoE), Foe Hold, -To Hit)
Tier 9: ??? (ZOMG! What could it be?)
At the powers panel, we didn't reveal the Tier 9 power. That will be revealed at a later date, so stay tuned. One thing to note, as Tunnel Rat mentioned, the tentacles have been replaced with more of an inky shadowy feel. Some bits of info we gave out:
Possess: This power darkens the target and gives them spooky glowing eyes and makes them confused.
Haunt: This power effectively places a taunt aura on your target and spawns two Shades. These dark entities alternate between a punch attack and a terrorize attack. The Shades will continue to beat on their target until either they are killed or their target is defeated. Once their target is defeated, they will move about attacking other targets at random. Their damage is pretty decent, and this power offers a fair amount of control. They are uncontrollable like all other Controller/Dominator pets.
I think that's about it for Darkness Control.
We also announced to proliferated sets. What would Darkness Control be without Dark Miasma for Controllers (called Darkness Affinity) and Dark Assault for Dominators.
Darkness Affinity
This power is a proliferated version of Dark Miasma for Controllers. You're likely thinking "why the name change?" Well, we pulled out Fearsome Stare and Petrifying Gaze because: a) Fearsome Stare really belongs in Darkness Control and b) Petrifying Gaze is pretty redundant when paired with Darkness Control as its effectively a copy of Dark Grasp, but without the damage. I felt this necessitated a name change.
In their places we added Fade and Soul Absorption:
Fade is a short duration, long recharge, high defense boost to your entire team. It's intended to prevent team mates from being defeated when they're low on health. This will hopefully give you enough time to fire off a Twilight Grasp to heal them. Internally, I've heard it compared to "a weaker Moment of Glory for your team". I think that's fairly accurate.
Soul Absorption is a handy power that grants nearby team mates regeneration and recovery for each nearby defeated foe. This can spell a massive boost to regeneration and recovery with enough valid targets. Think Stygian Circle for your whole team, but instead of +hp/+end you get +regen/+recovery.
Dark Assault
This power is a mix of Dark Melee and Dark Blast. You've got a fun mix of powers in there. I think Dominators will enjoy the set. It offers a nice mix of damage, control and survivability. It also features a new power called Gather Shadows. This is effectively a combo of Build Up and Power Boost. You lose your +to hit and have reduced effectiveness of the +damage and +effects, but you get both. It's a trade-off to be sure. I look forward to player feedback on this.
As always everything mentioned above is subject to change in beta. I'll be having my eyes glued to the forums when this hits the training room. For those of you who made it to the Pummit, it was great to mingle with you all.

Quote:Basically Agree with everything already posted, but I'll add this:I admit I might be opening myself up for attack. But having just played through many levels of Gravity/Time, i'm having a hard time seeing what the problem with Gravity is.
I'm not a fan of Propel for it's style and Dimension Shift is highly conditional, but I don't get some of the Anti-Grav animosity I've seen recently.
Any care to share their thoughts?
Gravity is "fine" when combined with control heavy secondaries. Time is one of those. Those secondaries serve to mask how poorly Gravity specifically performs.
Thing is, while those secondary sets can make Gravity "Fine" as a control set, those same secondaries paired with any other control set makes them "Better." -
Quote:Honestly his post made me a lot more optimistic about it.Here's Synapse on Dark Control & Dark Affinity:
Looks good. I wonder what recharge Haunt will be on? It'll be nice it you can get it up to an every-spawn power, or at least every other spawn.
+Recovery is definitely something nice for Dark Affinity, and I'm glad that Fade is confirmed as a Team buff. -
Quote:See, here's the thing... If Dark Affinity were actually a new set with mostly new powers (instead of just a slight variation of Dark Miasma) and it only had half the ToHit debuff of Dark Miasma, it wouldn't be a problem (because it would in fact be a unique set). But Dark Affinity IS just Dark Miasma minus two powers, so it will always be compared to Dark Miasma regardless. That is a really weird way to look at it, though. It's not like you can make a /Dark Miasma controller.
Objectively it remains to be seen how the set performs. I'm just voicing (or typing, as it were) my subjective concerns about what information we've been given. -
Quote:Eh. Dark Control will still have Fearsome Stare and it's ToHit debuff.Dark Miasma needs it. Dark control doesn't.
(Just fix Gravity already.)
Ultimately I can understand the loss of Fearsome Stare, and while I don't necessarily agree, I can see what their concern was, and can adjust to it. But Dark Affinity is also losing out on fully HALF of it's ToHit debuff in addition to the loss of it's control.
No other support set losses a significant chunk of their debuffing potential just because they're paired with a Control primary.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still excited for the set, and I'll still play the hell out of it... just.... meh. -
Ya know, I didn't read that part correctly until just now... For some reason I thought Fade was a team buff, not a team mate buff.
That's..... really disappointing me, because that means Dark Affinity gets nothing (mitigative) to make up for the loss of Fearsome Stare's -ToHit. -
-
Quote:Ideally yes.Surely the real solution there is to make Gravity no longer a pile of balls?
Sadly it's been a stinker for so long, with really no indication it's ever going to actually get fixed, that relying on your secondary set as a band-aid for it seems more feasible. -
Honestly I'd have preferred if they had just changed FS to mag2 with a longer recharge for Controllers.
Not having FS means that Dark Affinity no longer (appears to*) fills the main role I wanted Dark Miasma for, which was making up for Gravity's horrible (complete lack of) soft control.
*As I haven't heard what the other new power for DA is, this is just speculation. It may well still fill that role within that pairing... but it's looking a little bleak. -
Quote:Though that would just bring into play the question: If the powers we were getting* were just going to be virtual clones of existing dark powers (Cone immobilize:Tenebrous Tentacles) why did they bother making new ones (and thus delaying the set farther than need be)?I'm not saying it's a good idea, but those would be faithful accumulations of those effects from other "Dark" powersets. Oppressive Gloom and Tenebrous Tentacles, for example.
The only real issue I have with the PBAoE vs Cone is that it complicates the standard practive of combining the immobilize and disorient into a pseudo-hold. If both were PBAoE/TAoE or both were Cones (Of similar size, screw you TT/Night Fall/Torrent/Abyssal Torrent) then it would be fine.
*Some powers, Obviously there are several brand new ones.
Quote:Well, considering that the -to hit in fearsome stare was half of dark miasma's low level debuff capability I hope they provide some kind of replacement in the new powers. Adeon mentioned some a high-mag, short duration defense buff - hopefully that isn't being considered as a replacement for the to hit debuff in FS. -
Quote:Honestly this kills one of the primary reasons I wanted Dark Miasma for Controllers, which was to make up for Gravity's lack of control with Fearsome Stare.Going by memory here so power order is wrong off but powers were:
Single Target Immobilize
Single Target Hold
Cone style AoE Immobilize
Fearsome Stare (from Dark Miasma)
An PBAoE Stun
Haunt, a power that summons two temporary pets that will attack the foe you target and damage + terrorize him.
A targeted AoE hold power (it sounded like it was a patch power similar to Distortion Field)
The last power was not announced and I'm forgetting one other power.
Additionally Controllers will get Dark Affinity and Dominators will get Dark Assault.
Dark Affinity is basically Dark Miasma with Fearsome Stare and Petrifying Gaze removed. One of the replacement powers was a team wide high magnitude, short duration Defense buff (the comparison used was to Moment of Glory) but I forget the other.
I also greatly dislike Dark Control's controls having different AoE types. A PBAoE Disorient in a set with a Cone immobilize? Really? *sigh*
