Quote:By such an absolute definition, doing a single story arc mission is farming (as during the course of most missions, you're going to fight the exact same minions over and over, and possibly lieuts or even bosses if on a team/with rep increased).
Anything (in game) is farming if you defeat it over and over again. Quantity is irrelevant.
"Doing something repetitive" is the basis for most stat-driven games ; that makes quantity, or scale, very important when discussing farming. If you don't draw a line somewhere, the word is meaningless and doesn't serve its purpose. -
Quote:1-50 nets you between 200 and 300m inf if you sell your stuff at the BM, staying in SG mode the whole way. A level 50 shouldn't be on SOs except by choice because any level 50 should have enough money to afford frankenslotting and maybe even a few set IOs.
Maybe because we don't have the inf to work with IOs, or we want more for certain specialized builds we are planning? I have plans (sort of) to perma-dom a Fire/fire dom, and I certainly don't have the infamy to do this, so I'd be farming with a MM who is mostly running SOs...And is this somehow wrong? -
Quote:My gut feeling is you're stopped faster by animation time rather than recharge time on Claws ; so brutes, trading recharge and endurance for more damage, actually win out.
Nihilli, any thoughts on Brute Claws attack chains and DPS?
Never looked at high end Claws attack chains too closely though, because the few times I did it wasn't super impressive for the amount of effort involved (compared to what could be done with another primary). On the other hand, getting to 190+ DPS is trivial and leaves room for, say, S/L softcap for an /elec build (and, /elec being /elec, you can add another 15 DPS from Lightning Field). -
Crabs definitely have what it takes to solo AVs. I'd use a Crab rather than most melee ATs (outside of a few specific builds) for that task, actually.
Crabs do enough DPS by themselves to overpower AV regen, although not by much ; their real strength is their capability to keep -40% res all the time (Venom + Shatter Armor) while having five or six pets whacking on the AV, and also having the survivability to be able to take the aggro and keep it. -
Throw in another vote for DA/Stone tanker. I don't think it's been mentioned yet, but another great thing about DA on tankers is, due to the way Dark Regen works, the bigger HP pool makes an enormous difference.

I think you'll do better damage on a scrapper.
Even just using BF -> AV, a brute needs 85-90% Fury to keep up. With the BF -> AS -> SS -> AS chain, the scrapper leaves the brute far behind.
I haven't bothered to check BF -> AS -> SS -> Gloom, but I doubt it'd be that great. Gloom does more damage than the second AS, but forces redraw and can't take a -res proc. It costs a sizeable amount of endurance as well, and the more you have to use Power Sink the less DPS you're going to deal.
That said, the above paragraph is mostly guesswork based on experience, and not actual experience. -
Probably bug. Here's another thread on it, with an unfortunately much less descriptive title than yours.

It's a ST DPS chart comparing level 50 characters using common IOs, without Hasten. SM is filled with quick animating, slow recharging moves, so you're only going to see it shine once you put some recharge in it (be it Hasten, set bonuses, better %s through sets, Quickness/LR, external buffs...).

Quote:I agree.
It's entirely possible for large numbers of people to be completely wrong about something and argue their point tirelessly.
People arguing about EM being perfectly fine are a great example of it. Bring up ET's -health, or the way long animations get less from procs, or overkill damage, and people will tiptoe around or ignore these arguments, move on to the next EM topic and rehash the exact same "EM is fine" mantra.
It's weird. I can understand folks who go crazy when there's mention of something being a bit too good, but I can't say I grasp the motivation of someone who vehemently fights against the idea of something being a bit too bad. -
I've got 7 green bars. Can't be bothered to check further. Somehow it seems to go down when I make nice posts and up when I make controversial posts.
So, um, let's try something controversial.
What's the point of turning off rep if you're going to check it out anyway ? I've also seen someone with disabled rep who went through the trouble of hunting for his individual posts to check the associated rep (or whatever it is you need to do to actually see rep comments). It puzzles me.
Edit : thanks SiGGy, that's much easier than what I assumed. 841 here. -
I don't know why would I specifically target you. I don't even know you. I actually misread Silas' post and missed the "while not soloing" part, so was refering at least two different posts ; regardless, I answer to posts and not people, doing that is just turning a conversation into something personal.
Here's a dictionary definition that fits my own understanding of what soloing is : any performance, mountain climb, or other undertaking carried out by an individual without assistance from others.
So, buffed pets, debuffed foes (from other pets/players), insps given to pets, aggro held by other player/pets, all of this isn't soloing in my opinion. -
Quote:I don't think the words "valid" and "pve player seeking phase shift" should ever be used in the same sentence.
His question would be just as valid if he were a pve player seeking phase shift on his build as well.
Then again there's those fully ranged Bane builds with none of the -res debuffs...
I'm going to lie down and rock back and forth in this corner now if you don't mind. -
For me, soloing is just one single pet. At most, I could agree fire imps or MMs tier1 or 2 might count as "one" because it's one power, but anything over that and that's not really soloing anymore. YMMV.
-
Unless MoG was changed recently, it's really 12 seconds and not 15, as you spend the first 3 seconds locked in the animation.

Quote:He didn't mention anything in his OP, so I assumed he, specifically, and not everyone from the UK, was playing on US. I mean, it wouldn't make sense to ask "what are the current population numbers ?" without specifying "on EU servers", as most people who are going to reply play on US servers.
I'd like to mention one thing about this....why do you assume that people from the UK all play on US servers? we got a load of good people here on the EU servers, no we dont have the numbers of the US side but we still count! *end rant* -
One of my fire imps soloed STF Lord Recluse, by the definition of soloing some people in this topic use.
-
About population - I notice you listed UK as your location, so if you play at EU hours, most servers are very quiet until late evenings ; in my experience during the few last weeks, less than 150 people on either side showing up on /search, and that's over 50 levels with a fair share of them being either very low levels or level 50s, with not much in between.
This doesn't mean you can't get a team going, especially if you go out of your way and start doing stuff like global channels or forums, but for quick and painless PuGing I enjoy Freedom and Virtue more (these two servers have the highest population numbers by far during EU hours, usually 2 to 3x as much people as on any other server). -
Well, yeah. Misery loves company. This is about the exact same problem, making a new thread and reexplaining everything (lots of good information in there) doesn't make sense.
There's also people who have left the game because of it and might want to know if the issue is resolved, so this is also a simple "bump, still not fixed". -
He was speaking about damage in general, not damage the CoH game mechanic ; or this could be me reading it that way because that's how I feel about it.
Sure, you can skip Tough/Weave, but the amount of sets you're going to devote for that extra 9% def you need to find are inventions you're not going to be able to use for +recharge, +damage, +HP (except for the sets who happen to do both) and maximising end/rech/acc/procs on powers.
If you really want the extra 3 powers, it's worth skipping Fighting ; otherwise, eh. -
So, seven months since last post on this topic, and these East coast server lags still pop up for me, from time to time, usually after they do maintenance/update (like today).

Quote:Well, you're either a troll or a very misguided person... I choose to respect your intellect and assume you're just trolling, if I'm wrong in making that assumption then you've got some serious work to do on your communication skills.
Now who is the troll?
Simple example using your latest post :
Quote:Learned and knew are two different things, truthfully I was surprised at the level of passion some felt about players w/o SB.
Quote:It's never bothered me when kins on my team didn't have it. I play on Infinity, we're not really picky as long are people trying. I don't play on other servers, so I can't judge them.
On top of that, adding servers into this is just asking for flames. To lump everyone in the same group, and a group depicted pejoratively at that, based on their appartenance to one side of an argument or one server is bound to get some of these people annoyed.
Consider the whole post. It's a passive aggressive mess, staying just vague enough to be able to deny any wrongdoings, but still full of not-so-subtle implications baiting people. It's in this post, and in every other post of yours I've read in this topic, even including the OP. If you genuinely aren't trying to provoke people, I'd suggest reconsidering the way you type on these boards. -
Quote:whats overrated is forgoing punctuation to make it sound like youre a cool guy too cool to spend time doing thatover rated in pvp and pve

... Damn. How can you people seriously type like that ? -
I agree, but I'd argue that's true for pretty much any scrapper combo doing over 240 DPS. The ones that aren't Shield using AaO are typically extremely high recharge chains with a damage aura secondary, and will not have enough damage mitigation for most AVs without external help. It can be argued high damage sword primary + damage aura is the best choice if you use insps though, as mitigation is ridiculously easy to get through purple insps.
DM/SD with one target in range still does about 190-200 DPS, and largely negative damage at that, while also healing for the rough equivalent of 30hp/s and having softcapped defenses and DDR.
Admittedly, that could be me having a specific perspective, but I don't see the point of pure ST DPS outside of soloing AVs ; for minions/lieuts/bosses burst damage is better, elite bosses are rare, for AVs on teams you're better off going with "-res" primaries (through procs) to boost everyone's damage. So, I always consider damage mitigation at the same time. -
Lots of people have said they would consider skipping SB to be a silly idea, but shrug and play with the character anyway. Lots of people have said they'd play with the character, just make a mental note to not team with them again. Lots of other arguments in between as well.
So in the end, try to represent everything in black and white, act like you're a victim, have fun making it sound like everyone who's pro-SB is a brainless elitist. It doesn't really matter, because nobody's buying any of it ; and, yes, doing the above makes you the textbook definition of a troll. -
There's one thing that is worth mentioning for brutes... Blinding Feint isn't as relatively efficient for damage as it is on other ATs, due to Fury.
To match DB scrapper damage on a DB brute, you're going to need to be at 90% Fury (not "eventually", but all the time). In all other cases, using identical powersets 90% Fury brutes are above scrapper damage.
Animation times are also, overall, slow, which might hinder Fury generation for some people (it does for me).
There's also Gloom. It's one of the best attacks brutes can get for DPA, however on a set like DB the efficiency is lowered because of redraw.
These differences are by no means gamebreaking, but it does mean you can't directly draw conclusions from scrapper comparisons. While DB is a great set on scrappers, it lags a bit behind on brutes ; or if you like it phrased differently, it's not a bad set but there's better options, especially as brutes have access to SS, SM and a stronger FM.
