Thought I'd pitch in with a few name ideas:
EU Gotta Be Joking
EU FTW! (Forever The Wasteland)
The DOOOOM Squad
EU Dodos
European Black Sheep -
Well, I don't have a US account expired or otherwise.
je_saist I have emailed them, I don't suppose I'll get a reply, but I thought what the hell. -
I got the same email.
I wish I could say that Im shocked or surprised, but that wouldnt be true. Sadly Im not as this is just enough example of the apparent total disregard that there seems to be for the EU community of late.
Im sure it will be explained as an honest mistake, but come on, this is poor -
Quote:
New power-pool super sonic flight: as a alternate Ultra speed powerpool this power would work like teleport and hover put toegther you start off as a normal flight your character twist there body around with gathering speed to take off but you select an area you would like to Super sonic dash to in the air you disappear leaving a shockwave to appear at the selected location.
Hyper sonic dash: this power works like the above but for super speedtsers this also would be like teleport but you select the area you want to dash to your character gets into a Olympica like-running stance and takes off with a thunderous boom instead of a shock wave; you leave a after-image of your character to reappear sliding trying to stop. I seen this in so many american comics flash..superman...etc..
Ultimate Leap: this power would work like Quroboros portal (can't remeber the spelling) you select what zone you want to go to: your character bend at the new and leaps off changing zone as it loads you see yourself descending from the sky to land on the ground creating a huge crack in the ground. (Or you can make Super Sonic Flight and Hyper sonic dash a really cool zone changing power)
Although the animations could be cool, these seem essentially to be travel powers that don't require you to travel, it which case there are already a multitude of ways to do this already and as said above, travel is easy anyway. -
I like the idea, but I wonder if this could segregate players not in the Super SG/VG, perhaps if it takes off, there should be the contingency to make a Defiant version too.
Also if this kind of SG/VG does run, they why not make it to help the EU community in general by running lots of events etc? After all it seems like it may have a few people from these very boards in it.
I love the name The Shafted though -
None of these are terrible ideas but erm... we do have 10 Incarnate levels coming soon()
-
I kinda like the idea of a mini game but perhaps not soccer (pfft football
), maybe if the mini game was more linked to being a hero/villian and offered some small reward it might be fun. Although I would also agree that it shouldn't be a dev priority.

Quote:I like that!I want to see a "true mastermind" of an AV. The way I envision it is the AV has 100 or 500 or 1000 hit points, but is completely invulnerable to attack. Instead, he loses HP as his henchmen are defeated. It could be scaling somehow, that minions defeated make him lose 1 hit point, while LTs make him lose 2 and bosses make him lose 4, or something like that.
The point is you don't focus on defeating him, but you still have to deal with his attacks and his henchmen.
Anyway some “blue sky” ideas here which I’m sure aren’t easily possible.
I’m not sure it could be done and the balance would have to be spot on, but I’d like to fight an AV where tactics would come further into play. For example an AV could be totally invulnerable against some powers and other powers might heal or buff the AV, meaning players would have to think about the best use of their powers to defeat the AV. Perhaps the AV is vulnerable to certain powers used simultaneously meaning players would have to time their attacks.
I’d like to see a game mechanic where an AV is almost defeated and as a last resort puts an unblockable hold on the players draining their HP, as players are defeated whilst being held the AV grows stronger. The mechanic would involve only one player being able to get free (random chance perhaps?) and having a very short space of time to defeat the AV who is very vulnerable at this point thus saving the team.
AV booby trap – A defeated AV’s last words are “you think you have defeated me, never….”, suddenly you realise that the AV has booby trapped the map, players have a very short time to find the glowies and disarm the bombs otherwise it’s Hospital and debt. -
Perhaps it should be re-named - City Of Heroes EU outofdater

The thing is, I believe that the Devs do care about the situation, at least thats my impression from meetings in the training room etc.
But they are not the right people to give us any real answers, but these boards are of course the only real method of communication we have as players.
I was chatting to one of my oldest in-game friends last night who is thinking about surrendering all of his stuff the move to the US servers. His main reason was the lack of players to team with and with only 75 visible players on-line at the peak time (8.30pm) I understand how he felt. I tried to explain that giving up all of his vet rewards and boosters would be crazy but he loves to team and is completely fed up struggling to find players to team with.
This is typical of the slow erosion of our player-base that I have noticed increasingly over the past year and without any marketing or direction from NCSoft Im sure it will continue until very few players remain.
As usual last night I ran a team, Im pretty bullish about keeping the team full and search for players constantly to attempt to achieve this. Sadly a quote from a player joining my team may sum things up better than any point I could make here, he said Woah big team there were 5 of us including the player joining.
Perhaps no-one that matters will even see this thread, but if they do, come on give us a realistic expectation before the EU servers really do cry out DOOOOOOOM! -

Rewards should be earnt not bought, it's seems to me that increasingly we are living in an "instant gratification culture" where no-one wants to wait or work for anything. -
Quote:As an EU player who has read comics for almost 40 years, I couldn't agree less. One unavoidable factor is right under our noses: Cultural demographics. Since the 1930s and moreso since World War II, the United States in particular has had a fierce and long-standing love affair with super-heroes. Some of its oldest still fondly remember Captain-America punching you-know-who in the face. People have especially turned to them for entertainment (and comfort) during times of war and economic upheaval, when the U.S. has historically seen comic-book sales and related film-sales skyrocket. When Captain-America was assassinated several years back, the event made for bold, front-page headlines across the nation's newspapers. Serious business, know what I mean?
Really, with little to no European advertising coming down the pipe from NCSoft, the responsibility for community building necessarily falls on the community itself. Your paying customer base is dwindling, so what can you do? Well, always remember, like Spider-Man (didn't) say: With Great Problem comes Great Responsibility! Download the fan site kit and start building more interest in your game. Don't ask what NCSoft can do for you, because it's too late in the game for that strategy. Instead, do something for your publisher. Bring them numbers, and they will bring your funding.
Last but not least-- For those European players who are thinking of moving to the Freedom server, I'd also like to add that the Virtue server (NA's "Officially Unofficial Role-playing Server") often goes toe-to-toe with Freedom's concurrent population count, has more comic-book geeks, super-groups for role-players, and events for role-players than you could shake a, well, role-player at, and even has its own community-run website (Virtueverse.com).
In case you hadn't noticed super-heroes are global big business this days with blockbuster movie after movie, so assuming that love of all things super-hero is just a US pastime is misguided.
To say that we should take responsibility to increase our player-base is (to me at least) frankly ludicrous, look around there are a load of EU fan sites (check my sig for example), if you think this kind of activity will make much difference then I have to disagree.
Even if we manage to haul in a few players, read the whole thread to understand what little we have to encourage them. -
I'd like a different animation for superspeed, you current one just doesn't work for me.
It may not be possible, but some sort of motion blur would be awesome. -

Quote:No, you're not the only one.Maybe I'm weird, but traveling around the city is one of the things that I enjoy most about this game.
I think this post just illustrates that players want different things from the game. Some want everything now and like to plough through everything quickly, where as others get into their toons and just want to enjoy the content etc.
Of course this is an age old debate, which I'm not trying to re-open here, however I will say that in my opinion a TF should involve a little work and running around, otherwise you may as well just do a load of radio missions in the same zone. I'm not saying perhaps it couldn't be a little more logical, just that I'd hate to jump from door to door. -
Nice post Tyrrano
Thank you for illustrating my point
Quote:It's just the entitlement whine I can't stand.
Oh and...
Quote:Actually it's quite applicable. My access and experience is diminished because I'm halfway around the globe. Same with CoX for y'all - the distance and perceived lack of customer base causes problems that we NA folks don't have to deal with. I don't like it - neither should you. But neither situation is likely to change. :/ -
Well, I did write this as a joke for my comic a while back:
Kitten Summoning/Vodka defence:
AT Controller
Kitten Summoning
Fur Ball
Level 1
Fur ball launches erm...fur balls at the target tickling them, making them laugh uncontrollably and rendering them held and defenseless for a time.
Purr-fect
Level 1
Purr-fect allows you to emit a purring sound, this can send a single foe to sleep for a time.
Aww Cute
Level 2
You are able to summon a cute kitten, this pet cannot attack, however enemies are so taken by its cuteness that they get confused about which side theyre fighting for.
Freem Cream
level 6
You unleash a giant bowl of cream, this can hold a group of foes. This power deals a damage bouns to lactose intolerant enemy groups.
Here Kitty Kitty
level 8
Drawing on the kitten power of hiding, you can wear a kitten disguise, your enemies dont recognise you easily, offering a good deal of stealth. However the urge to lick yourself may decrease your attack rate while this power is on.
Kittens Hundreds of Em
Level 12
Kittens can also hide in groups, meaning you can share this disguise with team mates.
Hello Kittens
level 18
You can summon two kittens, each kitten can deal Fur ball, Purr-fect and cat -nip (allowing them to draw agro), these pets cannot be healed or buffed.
Black Cat
level 26
You summon a black cat, causing a group of foes to become totally unlucky, this makes all their abilties useless rendering them totally helpless for a time (also known as the Fusionette debuff).
Top Cat
level 32
You summon a giant cat (once seen in the Goodies), the powerful entity has many attacks including the Lick of DOOOOM, Worming and a chance for Neutering (extreme damage), this pet can be healed and buffed.
Vodka Defence
Bars Open
level 1
Your first vodka tastes good, making you happy, your huge smile has a healing effect on you team mates.
Get Yer Own
level 2
Your enemies dont have any vodka, this depresses them causing some of their power to transfer to you and your team mates, this uses the new nah nah nah nahnah animation.
Stagger
level 4
After a few vodkas you start to stagger, making you difficult to hit while this toggle is on. This also hampers your ability to navigate through cave maps.
Blah Blah
level 10
As you drink more, you find you talk faster, this is also true of using your movement speed, the targeted foe cannot keep up and is therefore slowed. Use of this power my cause your in-game chat to be unreadable.
Have Another
level 16
Offering a team mate a vodka removes any status effect on them...cheers!
Drinking Game
level 20
You can invite your team mates to join you in a drinking game, drinking faster increases their movement speed and recharge. However when this buff wears off you may collaspe for a few seconds.
Cheer
level 28
You can imitate the sound of a bar maid dropping a tray of drinks, this causes the whole team to cheer (WAAAAY!) and to hold on to their drinks more carefully giving them a bonus to their defence for a short time.
Party Party Party
level 35
Getting your second wind you and your team mates feel full of energy, giving a large bonus to endurance and lowering your enemies endurance at the same time. Although using this power may make other AT's mistakenly think they are tanks making them rush into mobs.
Smashed
level 38
You are so drunk that frankly you dont care anymore, this attitude totally confounds your foes draining their ability to deal damage and strengthening yours and your team mates, also everyone around you will seem more attractive, meaning you earn less influence while this power is used due to the fact you are trying to impress them and spending influence. After using this power youll need a kebab you wont be able to use your door keys correctly. -
TA is more popular he has more ice-cream
-
Personally I don’t mind the running around, for me it kinda adds to the feel of a TF and I guess I’m a player who likes storylines so for me it’s not all about rushing through everything. Birch can be stealthed but I’m sure that was the devs intention for the mission.
Anyway even if I did want to rush, it really wouldn’t take me that long as I can use:
Pocket D
Ouroboros
Mission Transporter
Base Transporter
Base Portals
Base Porters (Bricks and Creys)
Very few players don’t have SG’s and they can enter and use your base on the TF if they don't.
I’m not saying it’s not a good idea, I just don’t enjoy the culture of everything now, maybe that’s just me. -
Quote:Nope, but your argument is moot as we are talking about an on-line game here.Would you consider watching them online equivalent to being there?
Quote:I've got nothing against our Euro brethren, and personally I'd be all for finding some way to improve their experience. I'd play on Union or Defiant. Heck, I'd play on the German server and practice my admittedly-horrid Deutsch.
Quote:But the idea that NCSoft *owes* you better service rankles me. They provide a service. You pay to access it. Your recourse, should you not think the service worth the money, is to cease paying for and using it. I know that sounds callous, but that's capitalism for ya.
As someone that works in development, I understand in some ways the methods to prioritise system enhancements and I'm guessing the benefits case for a merge or such like is small compared to what's going on at the moment. So I for one would not expect anything soon, that doesn't mean of course that people shouldn't be able to voice their displeasure either. -
Quote:Equally you could watch them on-line from anywhere...My favorite band is from England. They're not horribly popular, so they no longer play to big stadiums. And they were never very popular on this side of the Atlantic. Still, I pay my money when they release new music. I should have just as much opportunity to see them live as someone living in England. But no. If I'm lucky they come a couple of times a decade, usually to someplace like Montreal. Mind you, that's about a 25 hour drive from here. That's hardly fair, now is it?
Unfortunately, life is rarely fair. -
We have great retail institutions such as Woolworths, Cadburys, Virgin mega stores and MFI, don't forget our great restaurants such as McD, KFC, Burger King and Pizza Hut.
Erm hold on...
:P -
rpgguy, I hear you and as you can see from my posts above, I agree what a lot of your points and I think it was good that you moved this matter out of the European Lounge into here.
However I feel that continuing to sound off in this manner will not have any effect other than some of our US friends (yes friends) getting a little annoyed by the repetative nature of this thread, after all many have said that they support us.
In fairness I'm not convinced that all of your statement can be backed up.
I'm not sure this can be proved without real figures, I'm not saying it isn't really low, I'm just not sure that this is a fact. (Wait to the world cup starts, I suspect numbers will fall more).
Quote:2 missed boxsets in a row with a lame excuse about european users using broadband.
A counter excuse has already been given, there are still plenty of Europeans that prefer retail copies/don't own broadband. NCSoft just doesn't want to take a possible financial loss (which is perfectly understandable since they try and make a profit, but they should have said so and not make up an excuse and lie to the community).
Quote:The same, repeated soon(tm) or it is being looked into replies.
We still don't know why it isnt possible to reverse the old US->EU transfer techology.
It is old technology that is in place, saying it is not possible with the current servers is a lie, because it is because it has been done in the past.
