So, as I've mentioned a few times I have this experimental stalker I've played to 30 in "casual gamer" style, the goal being to see how much inf someone could earn playing inefficiently and selling drops.
I logged him in last night to move him to another day job spot and checked his market slots.
Uh oh. That stack of lowball bids I made on Gift of the Ancients + runspeed IOs had some winners.
(as often as I disparage silly RP logic around here, it's slightly embarrassing to admit that I 'RP' this stalker as being a normal guy with a sword & no superpowers- so, no travel power. He just runs everywhere. Thus his thirst for the +runspeeds)
Opening the price window was like cracking the door to Bluebeard's Closet- I knew I shouldn't, but I couldn't help myself.
The 'last 5' were in the 10,000,000 inf range.
The little Marketeer with the horns and barbed tail on my right shoulder was hopping up and down screaming FLIP THEM! FLIP THEM! And while you're at it, respec out of the ones you've already slotted and SELL THOSE TOO!
Simultaneously the little RPer in the white robe with the wings on my left shoulder was calmly saying Now, you know the rules- you made them up! No marketeering, no flipping, just selling drops!
Grrrrrrrrrr!

Quote:Most niches can sustain multiple players- it will erode everyone's profits, but it will still work. You guys do realise that flipping only works if one or two people are doing it right?
And when a niche gets overcrowded, just find a new one.
There are far more profitable niches than there are interested marketeers.... -

I fixed up my fire tank by slotting knockback sets- cheap, fun and effective!
Happily he was fire/axe, so I had plenty of powers to stick them in. -

Quote:This reminds me of something I read in a home improvement book a while back.Time is just as important a currency in the market as inf. is.
You can get something done quickly by paying a pro a lot of money, or you can do it yourself more slowly and save a bunch of $$$.
'Time is money' is just as true of the market as it is the real world. -
Quote:Mine has Stamina so he can run Focused Accuracy, Tough & Weave all at the same time!About as deep as the layer of dust on my dresser.
I play concept characters. I don't use set IOs, just commons. And I just play to have fun, which is why my /regen scrapper has Stamina.
--NT
(actually I'm lying- he has Stamina because I re-spec'ed him on autopilot after I started playing heroes again- but it does come in handy for running a billion toggles!) -
Quote:hah!I love the rep comments. I have laughed so hard at the "negative" feedback I've gotten. And, for the record, it's my mom's house, but it's MY basement!
--NT
And yes, the negative comments are always very entertaining, if for nothing else than the "WTH?" factor. -
Quote:True. When someone leaves a comment like: "... you idiot... please stop posting", that is not a "disagreement", that is a personal attack.
Fortunately, I don't traffic in such nonsense.
Quote:Also, perhaps your detractors have simply put you on ignore, or are just not bothering with the system at all.
Perish the thought!
And Alt-o-holic doesn't count- he's got everyone on ignore. =P -
Quote:I guess you COULD purple out your guys, TopDoc... but everyone's doing that.
The only character I have who I'm interested in really kitting out right now is the Goat. It will be disorienting when I finish him off and don't have any 'reason' to make money other than the thrill of the chase.
Maybe I'll host a billion inf giveaway costume contest or something... -
Quote:I expect so, as it's attached to 'real' missions with their normal pattern of drops. For what my opinion is worth, I agree with this.
I also agree here as well; although I'm awaiting confirmation via open beta or *gasp* a Dev-provided nugget that i16's mission difficulty design will include purple rewards.
also, Space Goat's cool sig is making me feel underdressed.
=( -
I'm tempted to -rep Fulmens for doing manual labor to make his millions...
=P -
Quote:With the introduction of I16 and power customization, GR with it's side switching, moon base (?), and new self contained world...
What is there left to add to the game as far as defining features for an issue go?
The game won't be complete until I get a swimming pool I can fill up with gold and paddle around in ala Scrooge McDuck. -
Quote:Please tell me you are kidding. I regularly buy hydraulic pistons in large quantities on redside as I use them in mass producing Recharge Reduction IOs. I never, ever, pay more than 1,111 for each one. I see them regularly sell for 500 or less. I pay more, because the time is worth it to me.
QFE
I have a newbie mastermind who's flipping piles of cheap stuff to get more market slots. I mean she's making a profit, but it's incidental to the slots.
Last night I put in a bunch of bids for Ancient Bones and some tech uncommon. At the time the bones were "worth" 80k and the tech one was "worth" 200k.
When I checked back this AM I'd picked up 60 bones for 1k each and 40 of the uncommons for 15k each. The bones were "worth" 100k and the uncommons were "worth" 300k according to the last 5.
I listed the lot for 50k each, and fully expect to have sold them all by the time I get off work.
The last 5 is a snapshot of a moment in time. It doesn't necessarily have any connection to the reality of what you can buy something for. -
Great screenshot! =D
Once you've figured out how to flip salvage, you can flip anything- the same basic rules apply whether you're flipping Ancient Bones or Apocalypse triples.
Generally, the more expensive your stock the slower the pace- it'll take you longer to get your supply, and it'll take longer to sell. But if you do it right that just means more $$$ for less work.
With 100 million in hand you've got some flexibility. I'll make my usual suggestion- poke around for high demand recipes that show 0 for sale.
Put in some bids for a bit above the 'last 5' price.
Wait.
When you've won a couple, re-list them for a LOT more than you paid.
The Buy It Nao crowd will do the rest for you. =) -
Mayhem:
I'd definitely recommend waiting on any build that involves purples. I'm expecting the new mission settings to lure most/all of the farmers out of MA, resulting in a (relative) flood of purple recipes.
That's why the Goat is so loaded right now- I pulled all my purple bids, sold the recipes I was holding and am waiting to buy them back at a discount once I16 lands. -
I think my favorite thing so far is seeing how many people interpret disagreeing with a bad or stupid idea as a "personal attack".
It's also interesting that I keep gathering green blocks in spite of my polarizing nature. I have more fans than detractors. Before the rep meter and its comments I'd have guessed the situation was reversed. -
I feel 'rich' when I have enough to get what I want with a surplus.
This can be as little as a million or so for characters I'm just going to slot with generics.
The Goat is sitting on 800 million this morning and he doesn't feel 'rich' because there's still a buy a bunch of super expensive stuff I need to buy him.
So, it's all relative. -
again, resists work 100% of the time and are entirely predictable.
from a designer standpoint, that makes them better than defense and makes them an unlikely candidate for a buff.
A blaster with tremendous defense can be defeated by one lucky hit.
A blaster with tremendous resistance cannot. -
that's a good one Imoba!
=D -
Shopping for IOs while the market is still going psychotic from the biggest demand spike of the year is a great idea....if you want to run out of inf because you're paying way more than necessary for your goodies.
